Went two times on my trip. The ambiance is perfect for a business meal, date night, or even if you wanted to watch a game. Service is top notch and knowledgeable about their menu. I got the figgy pizza which was a great twist on the boring normal pizza. Very flavorful. The sweet potato fries had a perfect soft outer crunch with a soft inside. Very tasty. I wasn't a fan of the sauce, but they brought out a different type that hit the spot. The only negative is they did not have any wheat beer both nights I visited. The food is really good with a lot of healthy and tasty options, they offer a large selection of drinks, and the atmosphere and restaurant is very nice, patio is nice too! Blu is an interesting restaurant. They change their menu seasonally, and I almost always don't want what they are offering, but I'm there and have to try something, and so I do. And then I love it! So strange. I always love it! Today I had the pick 2 for $10. I ordered the Everything Salad and a hot ham sandwich. The hot ham sandwich was in ciabatta bread, with ham, bacon, strawberries and Brie. The Everything Salad was "kale, Brussel sprouts, apples, cherry tomatoes, golden raisins, sliced almonds, bacon, Gorgonzola, apple vinaigrette. It was amazing. Was not good. Nice atmosphere but both things we ordered were mediocre. 15 dollar cheese platter has 3 types of cheese: Blue cheese, mozarella and some kind of sharp cheddar maybe. The cheddar was in cubes, so not very practical to put on the bread. Only someone with no passion for making food can serve things like they serve here. Nah! This sorry excuse for a restaurant charged us for a meal that should have without a doubt been comped. The customer service was sub-par at best but it was the management that makes this review distasteful. We ordered the simplest of dishes, pancakes and bacon, and were served something not edible. The syrup that was served was thicker than molasses and acted like a glue that hardened. Something was clearly wrong with the dish as it had hardened and glue everything together, including utensils to the syrup cup. When shown that the dish had clearly been not edible, the waiter said "oh yeah that probably should be like that" then proceeded to say they'll ask the manager to comp the meal. She comes back and says the best they could do is give me a 50% discount on my dish alone when literally none of it was edible. The food was unacceptable but the service was even more unacceptable. Never come here. Maybe this review will be a wake up call for the owner to hire acceptable management. read more

Blu is one of my favorite restaurants in Norman. I love it so much that I went in today to purchase a gift card for a friend for Christmas. The gift card special was buy one for $20 and receive a $5 Good Life dining card (good at Blu, the Library, Blackbird and the Brewhouse). I bought two $20 gift cards and received two complimentary $5 dining cards. Several hours after making the purchase I noticed the two complimentary dining cards have an expiration date clearly printed on the front of 1/31/2018. Today is 12/10/2019. I called Blu and was put through to the manager "Taylor" who sold the cards to me earlier. She explained that the dining cards are brand new and do not expire. I explained my concern that the expiration is clearly printed on the front and she argued with me for awhile and said they never expire. When I asked for her name (so I could make that note on the card in the event I have a situation when trying to use them), apparently she didn't like that because after saying "Taylor", she immediately hung up on me. This is not only rude and unprofessional but completely unnecessary. I hate that Blu employs a manager who behaves like this because I have a lot of choices about where to purchase gift cards. Sadly, this will no longer be on my list. read more

******update: 7 months later: The menu has changed a bit, had brunch today and it was still amazing!! The steak and eggs (tenderloin) was fantastic, cooked perfect rare (as ordered) and so tender and flavorful. The potato hash had bits of mushroom/zucchini/peppers in it and was fantastic. The show stopper was definitely the Bloody Mary bar, it was JUST what I was CRAVING. 3 types of tomato juice, a habanero-chipotle one, chilies and peppers, and an extra horseradish one. I mixed the habanero and chilies and peppers and IT WAS AMAAAAZING. I added onion, cilantro, pickled okra, olives, and jalapeño to it as well. Seriously. Did I mention how ridiculously it was? Just go. Get it. Now. Drinks are always great and made perfectly. The staff has always been super nice and attentive! For the food: the goat cheese and beet salad is my absolute favorite. I'm not a huge fig person but they are amazing in this salad, also the nuts give a great crunch (and some spice!) The Brussels sprouts are a go to as well, and all the brunch items I've tried were wonderful. My fiancé loves the sweet potato fries, you can even get a half or small order which we do! For some unknown reason, I don't know why I don't come here more often. This time was a half smoked salmon salad. The greens were fresh, there was a good portion of smoked salmon, and a delicious dressing. Also had the shrimp tacos. Lots of shrimp with greats salsa. The food did get mixed up during the order process however our waitress offered us delicious scones. The restaurant is adorable on the inside with dining seating as well as lounging seating. we go there once a month for probably the last 20? years the good thing is the atmosphere is always good but recently they changed the menu again and prices have really gone up. I realize the cost through inflation as made costs go up but the price jumps at Blu on some things have REALLY skyrocketed. for instance the calamari which is breaded and fried used to be like 9 dollars is now 17 WOW. the happy hour pizzas are now 6 dollars which is about what they are worth but at 12 bucks regular price NAH. then of course on the mixed drinks they advertise a cheap enough price but charge you extra for cranberry juice orange juice etc. i will continue to go once a month as that's about all i can afford to with the recent price changes read more

My friends were really excited for me to try Blu. They'd been saying what a great place it is and how everyone in town loves it. But after my experience here, I just can't understand it. I suppose I should offer the caveat that I have only been here once, but once is all you get when it comes to making a good first impression, and Blu missed the mark. By a lot. My two friends and I arrived just around 7pm on a Friday evening. The place was busy, and so we were offered a place in either the enclosed patio or outside. The hostess assured us that the heaters were on, and so we decided to go with the enclosed patio. We had a table by the windows, under one of the heaters. It was like a boiling furnace for one of my friends, and so maybe it would have been better to sit outside. When our server arrived, she failed in introduce herself. We had literally just sat down, hadn't had time to even look at the menus and were not prepared to order. She seemed annoyed with this, and here began the downward slide of what was supposed to be a fun evening out. Our original intention was to bar (and art) hop around Norman since it was the night of the Art Walk. Blu was our first location, and we wanted to start with drinks and some appetizers. When that was all we ordered, there was a clear look (again) of disapproval. I know that being in the service industry is hard work. But it's your job to be nice to people. And we were being pleasant.... so even if you have a bad day, don't take it out on your customers. I'm not sure if this is common practice in Oklahoma, but our server took our IDs to the bar. I was a little uncomfortable with this... I've never had my ID taken from the table in New York. And in other locations in Oklahoma I wasn't even carded... so I don't really understand this. If you can't trust your waitress to card at the table, then maybe they shouldn't be serving alcohol either. Speaking of which - my drink was terrible. I ordered a "Not your grandmother's root beer" or something to that affect. And it was not good. It was supposed to have whiskey, Bailey's and root beer among some other ingredients. I could only taste the root beer with a hint of Bailey's. There was no discernible whiskey taste, and I certainly didn't feel any effects of the liquor. It seemed overpriced, and not worth the value. I'd never order it again. In fact, I don't think I would come back and order the food again either. We only ordered some tapas type items (This is a wine and tapas bar right?). We ordered a Mediterranean Plate and the sweet potato fries. On the plate - the cheese was ok, and the tapennade passable, but the hummus was gross. It was chunky and flavorless. And there were hardly any pita pieces. Again, I felt it was overpriced for the quality. And the sweet potato fries were cold. After we'd eaten, our server wanted to know if she "needed to come back to the table" as if she was through with us, and didn't want to make any further effort with us. I've never felt quite so unwanted in a restaurant... I tipped generously despite her demeanor. I'd also like to comment on the SHORT SHORT skirts of many of the servers. I felt like this place was supposed to be classy - a bit upscale. Why do we encourage this? Our server had pants on, so I'm not saying it's everyone, but honestly, the clientele in the restaurant (couples and female friends dining together) didn't appear to be the type that appreciates scantily clad servers. Unfortunately, Blu missed the chance to win me over. It's unfortunate because I went in with high expectations because of the positive reviews and recommendations of my friends. I won't have the opportunity to be back in Oklahoma for a while, but when I am, Blu will not be on my list of places to which I want to return. read more

This place is definitely my new favorite bar in town. When you first walk in, it was a bit confusing as there was no hostess waiting... The bartender quickly came to our rescue though and took good care of us. I love the decor-very trendy and chic. It has great areas for intimite conversation or boisterous drinking. I had mimosas, and at two dollars a pop they can't be beat! You can get a double for $1 more, which I might or might not have done... For lunch, I ordered off the 2/$8 menu and had a hot ham sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was awesome, strawberries, Brie, gooey yumminess. I didn't eat the top part of the bread, I loved the bread but it was too thick to easily eat as a sandwich. I left the top off and fork and knife'd it. The macaroni and cheese was no disappointment. I have recently had the opportunity to come to Blu twice in the last month. I so enjoyed the setting, even with little touches of blue lights around the bar mirrors. I've sat in the patio area, as well as the bar area. Service, food and wine have been outstanding! Great Happy Hour discounted prices! I love the "Flight" wine tastings... my favorite is the Sweet Escape, only $11 to try 3 different types of wine. The presentation brought to you is quite unique too! The food is very good too... the flatbread pizzas are very satisfying. Only thing is the tables are a little wobbly and a few times we thought our wine might slide off the table. Blu is in the constant rotation for birthday dinners, happy hour or fun girly dinner spots for my friends and I. I frequented Blu several times over my course at OU. I love the two party rooms for groups and the covered patio is great in the evening. Inside it's a little 90's feeling to me, but I'm kind of a fan. The menu though is up to date. Let's start with drinks-I've tried a few cocktails that I'll be honest i don't love but their moscow mule is one of the best. I typically go with a glass of wine though. It's not called Blu Fine Wine and Food for nothing. For apps I like to start with the awesome cheese board, Mediterranean platter, and the blu chips-holy moly. House made chips with blue cheese and and a creamy cheese sauce. They are a sin. I suggest going with the half order if there are only two or three of you. For an entree the tamales are killer, the veggie stack is super filling, the quesadilla is muy delicioso and the salads totally satisfy for an entree. My recent fav is the beet and walnut salad! Pork tacos come with 4 tacos, the fish tacos come with 3 tacos. Italian Sausage and Mushroom Pizza (4 stars): $5 during happy hour! It was really good. Italian sausage was really flavorful. DESSERT Chocolate Cobbler (4 stars): Very, very rich and chocolatey! Almost like a brownie but topped with sugary goodness. Pretty big portion since it is really rich so definitely share this. You won't be disappointed if you're a chocolate lover. SERVICE (5 stars) Our waitress was really nice. I really enjoy Blu. I've been going for years, first as a single person with friends enjoying their $2 well drinks, to brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Now that I'm older and have a family I can't go as often, but Blu is a nice treat. Blu is the perfect place to grab a couple of cheap drinks and sit around with your friends. I never feel rushed and it's perfectly fine to sit here for a couple of hours and enjoy your drink and company. $3 well drinks make it super affordable to get a little tipsy.
