Restaurant Week!! I love trying new restaurants during restaurant week. 3 courses for $30.00 is a steal. I chose this place because of the vegetarian option on the menu. I had the vegan Korean bbq ribs. This was accompanied with slaw and house made kettle chips. I thought the kettle chips were an interesting side to accompany the ribs. The ribs were a tad salty but still good. For my appetizer I had the Caesar salad. The dressing in this salad was a tad spicy. I love spice so I really enjoyed the kick. For dessert I had the strawberry shortcake which was also tasty. To drink I had the Russian mule. My favorite part of this drink was the ginger purée. I found this drink to be refreshing. All in all this place was ok. I'm interested in returning to try the patio happy hour. read more

This restaurant is located in the lobby of the Hilton hotel and serves also as the bar for the property. Although I have eaten in the restaurant, this review is mainly for the bar, which is a little more casual even though it is a little small for the crowd it usually packs in. The restaurant serves your typical steakhouse fare with attentive service and excellent food. However, it is definitely pricey. The bar has more casual food at more reasonable prices (at least for a hotel restaurant). I have found the atmosphere to be fun, the drinks cold, the service attentive, and the food tasty. Although the restaurant does not offer valet parking, there is a covered parking deck behind the hotel. By walking through the hotel lobby, you can avoid the harsh Minneapolis winter and prevent having to scrape your windshield after dinner. Check out the restaurant if you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion. So, what can you expect. Well, it is a nice hotel restaurant. Not super fancy, but it's nice. It has natural light streaming through, which is nice. I came here for restaurant week for a business lunch. It's a great spot for a business lunch...even for a regular lunch, actually. But let's get real, I'm all about the food: Crab Cake(s) - it's only 1 crab cake and it's delicious, you can tell it's a fresh crab cake and not something that's been sitting around frozen, in other words, pretty delicious Prime Rib Sandwich - is awesome. It has a great roll, toasted, the meat is delicious and the cheese is spot on...and yes! au jus. I got mine with sweet potato fries, which were awesome Short-bread sandwich with raspberry - pretty good, mainly because i like short bread, but it wasn't really anything special...could've been better. TLDR: i'd definitely check this place out...and get a crab cake...or crab cakes. read more

My wife and I came here on a Friday evening. No wait, the service was good and the food was great! Good portion sizes, healthy food (we had fish and steak) and a nice place to take your spouse on a date. I highly recommend, as the chef (Jacob) came out and spoke to us afterward. What a nice guy! So this is a "Suburban Four Stars", meaning this, I was pretty close to satisfied with the meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. We went to Bloomington Chop House because we got the Groupon for $20 for a $60 gift certificate. The free bread was great. The service was alright, our waiter assistant would have made a better server. Although there were many front tables and booths availiable, we got stuck at a back table in a corner, which kind of sucked. The Wagyu Beef Carpaccio was nothing to write home about. I got a special, six oz. Filet and Scallops, mashed potatoes and asparagus. The scallops were TERRIBLE. Overcooked, and gritty. But I mentioned this to the waiter, and he got them redone. They were perfect the second time around, and the manager came to ask me about them as well. The filet, on the other hand, was delicious. This was a great meal for what we paid with the Groupon, but since the prices are similar to the Oceanaire without the Groupon, I don't think we will be back. read more

I agree with Liz B. that the free bread was amazing. I love free, I love freshly baked bread, and I love spreads, so this was a great start to the meal. If I'd been staying in the hotel, my review would have been that it was a convenient, good-enough meal for an okay price. Given that I wasn't staying at the hotel, and drove out of my way for this meal, I was less impressed. At this price point, I expect either really good food or something special about the experience. Here's what I had for dinner: 1. Free bread with 3 choices of spreads: cheese, crushed yummy olives, and butter (This was the highlight of my dinner experience at the Chop House. LOVE the freshly baked bread.) 2. Appetizer - Crab cake (Good, spicy sauce. Crab meat was not fresh.) 3. Entrée - Filet in Medium (Eh. Filet was just okay. The deep fried mashed potato is a no-no.) 4. Dessert - Lava chocolate cake (Ice cream on the side was too sweet. Tastes like something they bought from Cub Foods. There was supposed to be melted chocolate oozing out of the cake, but they forgot about it. The server knew and didn't bother replacing it.) Don't go here. Try Murray's instead. It sounds like a better deal even though I've never been. I feel like I can get a better, faster service at TGI Friday's, honestly. Service was really slow guys. We were there for 2 and a half hours and it wasn't because we wanted to stay there that long. The entrées took a long time so they kept serving us bread (which I didn't mind btw, they were fresh). If you like butter you'll love this place. I don't think steak/lamb chops at this price point need to be drowned in butter to taste good. Unfortunately the chef here thinks so. The sides were also loaded in butter even he mushrooms and the green beans. Maybe I'm too biased against traditional steak houses like this one, but I just don't think a steak dinner needs to be so heavy. read more

Ate here when I stayed at the Hilton, also had my meal in the bar, so I can't say that it's a fully qualified review of the restaurant. Had the salmon which I liked a lot along with a side of spinach and sauteed mushrooms. Both of the sides were good, and all the servings were extremely large. I did not finish the salmon or the sides... simply too much food. Wine in the bar is excellent. I was also fortunate to be there when they were doing a wine tasting/training for the staff and they let me try one of the higher end cabs -- which was absolutely fantastic. After finding out that I was going to be in Bloomington for work, the first two things I did was 1) sign up for the Minneapolis Groupon email and 2) pull up Yelp to find out where I wanted to stay and what I wanted to eat while I was there. I booked my stay at the Hilton and then just two days later saw the Groupon for the Chop House; it was meant to be! After reading all the reviews and then eating there myself I have to say that the MN Yelpers were right on the money! I went with a few co-workers for dinner the first night we arrived in town. The bread at the beginning of the meal was great. That blue cheese cream cheese was fantastic . . . more please! The sun dried tomato spread was good too. I would have had more bread if it was there, probably better that it wasn't. Server was very nice, when he was there. Kept checking on us out-of-towers while we were deciding on our order. We were pretty chatty and it took us a while to order, he was very patient. When we finally did place our order, it was a little on the slow side getting to the table, but good food takes time, right. Don't go when you're in a hurry and it's fine. We had plenty of time to chat and catch up. I go the ahi tuna and it was very nicely seared, however I didn't taste much seasoning. I loved the wasabi sauce that came with it, so I just used that to flavor it up. The sides are HUGE. Twice baked potato was more than enough for four people. The dessert special was a strawberry champagne trifle. Very light and a nice way to finish the meal. If I didn't have the Groupon and if the company wasn't paying, I don't think I would come back unless it was a special occasion. A little expensive for this Phoenix girl. read more

I'd seen this restaurant come up on searches in the area a few times, but finally decided to give it a try after my mom mentioned being hungry for steak. The restaurant itself is located in the Hilton hotel, but does have a separate entrance. The décor is very well done inside with darker colors/finishes and very nice details. The menu isn't big, but has a number of choices for starters, salads, some seafood, and steaks. Not much in the way of sandwiches or pastas, or anything else however, and at pretty steep prices you'll want to be prepared to spend some money here. The steaks hovered over the mid-$40 range for most items and these all come ala carte which means you are also paying for any salads or sides (which are served family style so run another $10-14 a piece. We ended up having the ChopHouse chopped salad which was good in flavor, if somewhat unusual, for a chopped salad. It was served literally chopped to the point that it was kind of smashed into a greenish concoction where you couldn't really identify any individual ingredients. The flavors were good, so we were happy enough with it, but if you are looking for an actual salad...with some lettuce...this isn't the best choice. We also had the French Onion soup which was excellent, Lobster Mac-n-Cheese (side) which was creamy and delicious (but kind of overloaded with bacon and not much lobster) and then decided to skip the $50 steaks and have dessert and coffee instead. We had the seasonal Apple Crumble which was a generous portion and delicious with cinnamon ice cream. The service was superb...very warm, professional, and very nicely timed etc. Excellent service! Overall this is a beautiful restaurant, with great service, but be prepared to come for steak or seafood, and to spend a fair amount of money to do it. Would I go here again? Maybe, if I was in the mood for something high end and really wanted steak. So I came here for dinner and ordered the salmon dish. When the salmon dish came it smelled fishy but when I tasted it it was very very fishy. When I let my server know she gave me the menu back and let me pick something else out. I went with the petite steak and it was absolutely amazing. With the steak I had a couple glasses of wine and I splurged on crème brûlée for dessert. Yes I ordered something that I didn't like but they were very gracious and took care of me which is why I gave them five stars. I have had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant on a few occaisions. Everytime I am there the service is poor at best, certainly not worthy of the price of their food. The wait staff seems to be out of sinc with the delivery of the courses and the bar orders are always delayed. The steaks are average, I would expect better presentation for the $35 to $40 price. The free bread with the different butters is a nice touch but not what I go to a place like this for. The side orders leave a lot to be desired. I have had the Lobster Mac a couple of times and every time it tastes like yesterdays. We have asked for hash browns, which are not on the menu, they say they can make them and then they appear and are worse than what I do at home, burnt, dry and very small - served on a salad plate. I have to say it would be nice to have a great steak place in Bloomington but this one just doesn't do it. read more

I've eaten here five times, and even if I wasn't staying at the Hilton I would come here to dine: amazingly high quality prime steaks and exquisite seafood (not inexpensive, BTW...) plus well-prepared sides. I'm trying hard to contain myself at the moment as I wipe driplets of drool off my chin --because-- I'll be eating here again tonight after a month hiatus. Food: classic selection of USDA beef (Choice or Prime, it's hard to tell) , just about any cut you would want, including bone-in ribeyes (hello!), porterhouses, veal chops, et al. You want it Blackened? Oscar style (crab,asparagus, bernaise)? Crumbled bleu? Burgundy 'shrooms and onions? check, check,check, and check. Salmon, Chilean sea bass, Halibut, Ahi tuna? Oh yes they've got it, and it's all fresh; I can attest to that. Great selection of breads and 3 complimentary spreads to start your dinner. Great Caesar salad; always large portions of very good sides (FYI, all sides are a la carte), all of which are up to their high standards as well. Bottom Line: In a veritable desert of mediocre hotel restaurants, The Chophouse is an oasis of standout food, great presentation, and smart design. Very nice dining environment; wait service has been good to excellent every single time, and the manager almost always checks on his diners, going from table to table. Hard to believe a a restaurant of this caliber is situated in a hotel, even though it is a Hilton hotel. No rubbery chicken fingers and last week's lettuce served here. I had the 1/2 lb., $16.00 Chop House Burger. Comes with a slice of American cheese, lettuce, tomato and a few slices of kosher pickles. The hand cut fries are thicker and abundantly fresh and hot. No shortage on good fries. Anyway, what I really wanted was their happy hour menu burger for a $6 single, or the double patty for $8. Confusing is what the server strongly advised me against it vs. the $16 main menu version. I'm sure whether this was an inherently trained sales ploy or just brut honesty? So, after much anticipation waiting nearly 15 mins., the 1/2 lb. came and it tasted good but was a bit dry cooked at med. well. Medium may have been better? The lady server was nice enough and kept my Coke topped off and at least brought a glass of ice water. Huge plus. Overall, it wasn't terrible but it didn't wow me either. The burger. Not sure about most likely spending nearly 100 bucks for a complete meal here. First impressions you know. You decide. read more

Bloomington ChopHouse is a pretty solid option for upscale dining. I dined here with a friend and we just sat in the bar area, which still serves the full menu, so that was cool with us. The service was great, our waitress was really attentive, informative, and didn't hover at all. I got the salmon, and my friend had a steak. We split a side of asparagus as well. We were served a bread plate with a few butter/spread options which were all excellent. I really appreciate a bread basket from restaurants and their's didn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed my salmon, I would say it was one of the best salmon plates I have ever had. The salmon itself literally melted in my mouth and it was served on a bed of greens with a perfect, tasty sauce. I would order it again in a heartbeat. Even though I typically do not get filled to the brim from fish the way I would from steak, I was not able to finish the huge portion they gave me. Even though it is a pricey dish, you definitely get your money's worth. My friend had a steak which he really enjoyed. The asparagus was good, nothing special or different, but solid and tasty. I was traveling on business and was looking for a quick and nice meal. I was staying at the Hilton here, which happens to be connected to the ChopHouse. Not much to say about this place since it is your average steak house. It mainly caters to business travelers I'm assuming. I ordered the Salmon filet and it was a great choice. The portion was the most enormous I have had anywhere else! It was grilled and served on a bed of sauteed spinach. Price was not too bad also. All in all, it was a good experience. I've been to this undiscovered Twin City "find" twice for lunch, once for dinner, and a bunch of times for happy hour snacks. All three times my meal stated with really good breads and 3 spreads, of which the "crushed olive something or other" is absolutely amazing. Might be worth going there for that alone... ;) Burgers are top notch and steak is what its known for. The service can be spotty, depending on who you have and seems a little tension in the bar sometimes, but overall its a good place to stop by if you have an inkling for good quality food and a nice atmosphere... read more

The service was not rushed. The best part of the meal was the Salad, I got a 10 oz Filet. First thing is I can tell by the lack of firmness that this is not free range beef. There was no muscle tone to the meat at all. Normally indicating that these are feed lot beef. The second issue was the stake was not cooked well. With something this think it should have been dry boiled prior to attempting to grill it. I ordered it medium since this would be a thicker cut of meat and normally it is expected to be under cooked enough that you get medium rare. What I got, the outside was carboned, and the inside was rare. I did not finish my steak. The sauteed onions and mushrooms were a bit on the mushy and cool side, like they may have been prepared well in advance. I paid my full bill of over $60 and left a good tip for the waitress as it was not her fault. I spoke with the host and explained that I felt the person that did the grilling may need a bit more training. I give an extra start (now 2) because the staff did imediatly attempt to take it off my bill. I explained that I did not want to say anything until after I paid, because I did not want anyone thinking I was just looking for a discount. It annoys me when I see others complaining just to get a free meal. Your mileage may very. I do believe that they will attempt to improve on the grilling of the meat. I do hope that they work with their vendor to get a bit better quality of meat, because what they are advertising and what is being served is not the same. If I was to guess, I would say it is not the restaurant's fault for the meat quality but more likely the supplier is cutting corners. Staff was excellent. read more

Delicious. and Expensive. Thank god it was a company dinner, as it came out to $250 without tip for 4 people [and we didn't get dessert]. The oysters were unbelievable. I couldn't stop shoving them in my mouth, and at $14 for 3, it would have been cheaper for me to literally stuff money down my gullet instead. Bread was delicious, and they gave you butter, sundried tomatoes and bleu cheese as spreads. I ate 3 pieces, and of course became totally full before my steak even came. I got the smallest cut, an 8 oz filet. Normally, I like the first few bites of steak but then it becomes a bit of a workout for my mouth. Not this time. My steak was so soft and tender it was unbelievable. I silently cursed myself for stuffing myself with empty carbs and letting half of my delicious piece of cow go to waste. Sides were okay, we got the mashed potatoes and they weren't anything incredible. Another reviewer wrote that if you love butter you'll love this place, and it must be true, because I love butter more than anything and this meal made my heart flutter. It's either love or the beginnings of a fat induced heart attack. Our waitress was really cool, but I would be too if I knew I was going to make $60 off one table. A shade unfair to review the restaurant when I actually at at the Olive Bar because the restaurant itself, and all the tables in the bar, were reserved for some Agriculture group. Still, the full menu was available. Sitting at the bar I had great service, and talked to the bartender in the brief periods he wasn't busy. I had the Tuna Tatar, which was great, and the Lobster Mac, which was good. Coffee was good and the service excellent. Prices were hotel high, but the portions were big. The large parking lot was filled with the Ag people so it took me a while to find a spot, which I assume is not usual. Rating based on one visit, and may change when/if I go back. Which I might when I need my car worked on again. read more

This is not the best steak I have had, but by far not the worst. The staff was friendly and the service was top notch. But I did find it a little pricy for the quality. I walked in with 2 others, no reservations, and was seated right away. But I did get the impression that they would like you to reserve a table. I always like room service when I'm out of town in a new place - let's me relax before having to go out and about. Ordered: 8oz fillet; 1/2 order mashed potatoes; 1/2 order asperagus; creme brulee; iced tea. Pros: Huge portions, tasty steak; creme brulee very good Cons: Main course didn't come with sides - for a $40 steak - you should get sides; more expensive than I had planned on. I will start by noting that this is a hotel restaurant. It is in the lobby of the Hilton. It is certainly one of the better hotel restaurants that I have been to. The good: Lamb was excellent. As good as any top steakhouse. Dips with bread were great. Homemade sorbet was fresh and unique. The bad: The pork chop was just average. The fish was about the same. The blah: The service is overly friendly, but slow. The staff could not have been nicer, but nothing was done at even average speed. This restaurant was located at the bottom of the Hilton where we lodged at and they also service the hotel guests that order room service. You'll think they'll have the same menu they have in the rooms at the restaurant? No, the restaurant's menu was even more limited that the room's. Makes no sense. We had to remember what we had seen in the room before we could order. They must have been trying to push the sale of their overpriced steak and seafood. Six of us came here on a Friday night after the holiday party. Our server Annette was outstanding. Very knowledgeable with the menu and patient with our questions. Everything we ordered was delicious. The petite filet au poivre was perfectly cooked and you could almost cut it with a fork. Ribeye was also done perfectly. Two ordered the salmon and stated it was the best they had in years. One ordered scallops and they were huge! The beet salad was very good and all of the sides we ordered were fantastic. If I had to do again, I would order the loaded mashed over the mashed yukons with garlic. Everyone raved about the brussel sprouts. The steaks/sides are ala carte. I came here for restaurant week with my work team and after looking over the menu we were all excited. We had a large group so we were given our own private room and our server deserves 5 stars for being so nice and helpful. I ordered the crab cakes, lobster mac and the shortcake dessert. There was bread brought out for us while we waited on our appetizer and that was pretty good. The crab cake was perfectly portioned for lunch and was seriously delicious. The lobster mac was creamy, the lobster was large and juicy and overall very flavorful. The dessert option was a little meh to me but for the price and the previous portions of the meal I cant complain one bit. Located in the Hilton Hotel the location is pretty central and the parking is abundant even with hotel guests. I will definitely be back. read more

Our flight got cancelled, so we stayed at the Hilton in Bloomington. The next morning we decided to try out Bloomington ChopHouse for breakfast. When we walked in everybody was friendly, patient, and helpful. Our server, Annette, was amazing! (She even gave me some wonderful book recommendations). I had the Cinnamon Brioche French Toast, my mom had the Steel-Cut Oatmeal and my dad had the Traditional Breakfast. All of them were delicious!! This was me and my husband's first visit to Minnesota and we are staying here at the Hilton as well. We wanted a good steak and noticed this restaurant is attached to the hotel which is perfect. We asked some of the people who worked here about the Prime Rib since we haven't had a good one yet in the Midwest. They said the Prime Rib here is very very good so we ordered it!! When the waitress came to our table our mouths dropped because it looked very good. When we tasted it.... our eyes got big because it was DELICIOUS!! I would recommend you try the Prime Rib here!! Very disappointed with our dinner during Restaurant Week at this establishment. Our drinks were "thimble sized" and priced at rates you would find in NYC - $16 for a Pinot Noir. My wife's sirloin (their entree for Restaurant Week) was tough/chewy and my prime rib was just okay and also priced too high for the size of the cut with no sides.
