We started with a Hot Apple Cider, topped with maple-infused whipped cream and cinnamon, along with a couple of hot coffees. The cider was warm, comforting, and full of cozy fall flavors. Unfortunately, the self-serve coffee station wasn't kept stocked, and after waiting quite a while for a refill, we eventually gave up. For breakfast, we ordered two Mushroom Frittatas, a Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, and a side of Housemade Breakfast Sausage. The Mushroom Frittata featured three hearth-baked eggs with roasted mushrooms, sweet onions, and Gruyère cheese, served alongside breakfast potatoes and a peppery arugula salad. It was flavorful, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. Although I informed the staff about my peanut allergy, I was surprised to find the crispy breakfast potatoes on my plate, which left me uncertain whether the allergy request had been fully communicated to the kitchen. The Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, served with strawberry preserves, was one of the highlights of the meal. It was flaky, buttery, and wonderfully moist, pairing perfectly with the sweet preserves. The Housemade Breakfast Sausage consisted of two peppery pork patties that were juicy and well-seasoned, making a great accompaniment to the rest of the meal. Overall, we enjoyed a delicious and filling breakfast with fresh, high-quality ingredients. While I wish the coffee station had been monitored more closely and that greater care had been taken regarding my food allergy, the Mushroom Frittata and fresh biscuit alone make Northstar Café worth returning to.

The house was frantic as it was packed with several groups either adding on folls to their parties last minute or trying to walk in! Appreciate the staff handling everything with a smile. The chef was out delivering food and shaking hands as everyone shared their favorite memories of the restaurant. Coming off of Bourbon fest, we decided for light fare and got a closing drink along with the Off Menu red snapper crudo with rice paper crackers, watermelon salad, and pomodoro pasta. We shared everything and took half the pasta to go. The crudo was fresh and creamy with an avocado base while the watermelon salad was brine, sweet, and refreshing at the same time. Definitely have to try that at home. A great ending night for us and the Chapman legacy.

(It was clear she had serving experience though). She began by counting off numbers to match the bill with parent/child. I opted for the grilled walleye and was excited to see they had gluten free fries. The fried walleye was a HUGE serving that was definitely meant for sharing. The mozzarella sticks were a huge hit. The salads looked phenomenal and my daughter loved her burger. Now, when we got the bills it was mass chaos! The manager was very gracious in helping our server. I felt bad since she was so new. She really did a great job at handling so many orders among our 2 tables.

Arrived approximately 3:30pm - restaurant basically empty (maybe 5 tables total occupied). Went to check in for 2 and the host said he had reservations at 5. Huh? So I asked do you mean you can't seat us until 5? And he said no, that we need to leave by then because other people are coming. I thought that was very weird and unprofessional. I've never had an experience like that before. It's a basic sit down place, why would you think we'd linger for more than an hour and a half? Whatever, weird feeling, but we were seated. Seated in the walkway. Not like in a path but literally blocking the walkway where you step down. Why do I say this? Because people walking by kept banging into me. Not their fault. Why is there a table there? And why were we seated there when at least 80% of the restaurant was empty???? Ok whatever. Ordered food including their signature made in-house tots. Waitress comes back and says they were slammed in the morning and they're out of tots. (Man I feel bad for the people coming at 5. LOL) whatever except the people at the next table appeared to be served tots. Food was tasteless. The Mac and cheese had a weird texture like the roux wasn't cooked properly. My patty melt was mostly bread as the patty was too small for the bread. My husband had the signature chimi burger and it completely lacked any chimichurri flavor. Like at all. We were out by 4ish (plenty of time for them to prepare for their expected onslaught) and needless to say I've unbookmarked this place from my yelp. Maybe we'll try the Mexican place across the street next time. ‍

I was a bit worried as it looks more like a night club from the outside, but the food was fantastic! We ordered the popcorn chicken, the Shanghai noon burger, mama Chien's dumplings, drunken noodles, a cobra old fashion and a local beer (paper cloud?). The chicken had some unique seasoning and the drunken noodles were phenomenal; the noodles were giant and cooked perfectly and the dish has some unique touches like pea pods that you don't usually find. You order at the bar, but even with that the service was great! A server brought out an herb for us to try that is in many of their dishes. They checked in on us several times and even refilled water, which you get yourself at the back. The customer base was very diverse. I'm guessing the place may turn more club-like later at night, but for dinner it's a perfect family restaurant.

I loved watching the bartenders make the drinks. It's mesmerizing. We tried the Koji Popcorn Chicken, Ezzo Pizza Dumplings, Seasoned Fries, Mama Chien's Dumplings (pork & sweet potato filled). All the food was amazing. I ordered a Kopiko Espresso Martini that I will go back 10x over to have again and again. I would say the only thing I'm not a huge fan of is going up to the bar to order every time you need something. I think they could really thrive using a QR system and/or digital tabs to make that process simpler. Also so you don't have to keep leaving the table. Either way, definitely worth it to check out!
