A terrific concept very well executed. "Quick" and "pizza" are too rarely paired, except for slice shops, of which this city has miserably few. Not only does Blaze serve your pizza pronto, but it tastes great too. And it's really reasonably priced--$5.95 for a single topping or $7.95 for any of their signatures or a build-your-own with unlimited toppings. The range of options is empowering. Also, this joint saved our bacon last weekend, as we had planned to lunch at nearby Native Foods, which turned out to be closed for a looong holiday break (with no notice on their website). We had less than an hour to eat before catching a train at Ogilvie and were quite dismayed--but Blaze was open and welcoming. Serendipity, folks. I see that there are two downtown locations plus one each on Belmont and at Old Orchard. I would love to see this chain expand further on the north side--a great idea like this deserves to succeed. read more

Wow! I've stayed in the area for more than 6 months but have never been there. Several weeks ago I passed by, saw lines, and it smell too good to resist. Normally, I never buy pizza myself, as I've had too many pizza during events at school or work. But today I decided to try out this popular spot instead of warming up frozen microwave food. Met a neighbor there. Pleasantly surprised by the food! I didn't know the concept before, but quickly figured out build you own pizza is the best choice. The girl first skipped me and moved on to the next customer (am I invisible?) but she found out later and apologized. I'm not a big fan of cheese, bell pepper, or pepperoni, and dislike jalapeño. Build your own pizza is perfect for me. For the first time I got a pizza without cheese! Love the concept, so that I can put more veggie on it while still tasting some meat. It's tailored to my preference! At first I doubted whether my own creation would not taste as good as classic ones. It turns out it's not the case! Probably because the ingredients are tasty, I feel that no matter what you choose, it'll taste fine. I love thin and crispy pizza! (hate deep dish) It's incredibly thin and crispy! Then I can understand why it can be done in 3 mins. Basically, very high topping:dough ratio. More meat/ veggie, less flour. Higher COGS, lower calorie (as long as you don't put on everything). Yes, pizza can be light and refreshing, rather than cheesy. I thought it would be impossible for me to finish the 11-inch, but it turns out I could not stop it, and finished it in several minutes! The only thing that I would do differently is that I would dine in instead of taking out. After 7 minutes, it's not really warm any more. I was SO excited when my coworker told me that there was a Blaze Pizza within a few blocks of our new office space. Having been to the location in Highland Park, I knew I'd love the pizza, but I was curious to see how they dealt with the lunchtime rush. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the line moved. I know that's their thing - that it's "fast fired" but that doesn't mean that the process is going to actually be fast or smooth. But they were pretty fast and, more importantly, accurate. I wish they were a little louder when calling out the names of pizzas that were ready, because we couldn't hear them very well, but it all worked out once we had our food. I love Blaze because I can get a pizza with non-dairy cheese, and still get meat toppings. Also it tastes great. And the price, especially down in this area, is really good for the amount of food you get. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service. I had the worst customer service experience ever here. Here's the email I wrote to them on September 20th, 2018 and still haven't received a response. It's lengthy but I need to express frustration of myself and others. My apartment building received "buy one get one free" coupons. However, the system was down so this location did not take the coupon. The issue, however, I was told this AFTER I made my pizza. There was NO sign at the beginning of the process stating "not accepting coupons today- system down" OR an employee telling you before hand "before proceeding, our system is not allowing us to take coupons". That would have saved a lot of frustration on both sides. The employees rudely stated "we are not accepting coupons" and did not even apologize or substitute anything for the inconvenience. She also didn't explain why she's not accepting the coupon. It is only after I asked "why?" That she told me the system was down, still no apology. Moreover, we were not the only ones. One woman employee even ended up yelling at a customer and he had to tell her to calm down. Another customer also said he wouldn't come back. All of this because your system was down after sending coupons to one of the most populated cities. Furthermore, why not substitute something for the inconvenience? For example A) I can take your coupon and charge you for one pizza B) I can substitute free drinks/sides/salad. Two woman employees in particular were extremely rude. One female employee was however was extremely nice and one male who was cleaning the tables was so kind. I'm not sure why your employees are getting mad at customers for no reason and not even notifying customers before ordering. (I ordered at 6:30pm way past lunch, so I'm sure they encountered this issue early on, why not put up a sign? It would literally take two seconds to write). From my 30 minutes of eating here with a friend, we witnessed multiple people being yelled at and having been told AFTER they'd order that your company was not accepting the coupon. Also I witnessed a handful of people asking about the coupon and then leaving after they were told no it doesn't work today. From my short time here, it seems like you had lost a a good chunk of business. I feel like customer service is significantly lacking. We're human, we get systems can fail. But there could have been easy solutions to this mess. I hope you take my input and complaint seriously and prevent losing further business. read more

Kudos to Blaze for offering $3.14 pizzas on 3/14, Pi Day! This is one of my favorite lunch spots anyway, but getting a delicious pizza for $3.50 including tax (and in downtown Chicago nonetheless!) is a fantastic deal. As a result of their special today, the place was packed and the line was out the door at lunchtime. At dinnertime the line was even longer. The employees were keeping up with the pace and were still friendly too. This is the only location I've visited, and each experience here has shown me the employees are exceptionally friendly. Blaze is a restaurant described by Money magazine as a fast-casual chain. Blaze sells "fast-fire'd" pizza utilizing assembly-line-style ordering. They offer one size of pizza (about a 10-inch size probably?) and you can either build your own from their 40+ toppings or choose one of Blaze's combinations: Green Stripe, Red Vine, Veg Out, and BBQ Chkn, just to name a few. Forks, knives, cups, straws, lids - even those cute little containers that hold the salad dressing - were specifically chosen because they leave a smaller footprint than most other available choices." The grand opening on Clinton was my first experience with Blaze pizza. Amd I have to say it was delicious! For the grand opening, all week they handed flyers out for a free pizza on their grand opening Friday of you follow them on social media - brilliant marketing.... And I copied that flier and handed it out to 100 people at work. The lines were long, but once you entered the facility, you were bought into the hype of why you came in the first place.... What impressed me most was the variety of meats, sauces and vegetables offered.... More gourmet selections than I would have thought. I also was impressed by how friendly they are... Everyone with smiles, even with working at a crazy pace that day with the grand opening. Love at first bite. Oh my gosh, not only did it look good. It tasted phenomenal. So glad I went. Pretty impressed with Blaze. I stopped in after work to pick up a quick pizza for take-out (my first visit). The staff was really friendly and explained how things worked. I would argue that it takes more than the stated 180 seconds to cook each pizza, but it was pretty fast and I have to say that I was quite impressed with the quality and flavor. The lines are usually really long, but I can understand why. If you're in the market for quick, tasty pizza, definitely worth it. The seating in this location looked pretty comfy as well. read more

Back during my undergrad days at UIC, I'd come here during pi day. The lines were often very long, (read: out the door) but the staff managed to keep the line moving at a relatively fast pace. It was the most incredible system I've seen to date; no customers appeared to have received incorrect orders and the staff was extremely courteous the entire time. I just wished LeBron visited this location :) The pizza was great for its price. You can customize your pizza on a very thin crust. I'm not too sure whether you can have thicker crusts. You can either choose from their pre-made selections (which are equally good) or be creative and make your own. I had the make your own and was amazed by the sauces they had. This has rapidly become my favorite "fast pizza" place in Chicago. It is GOOD FOOD! In a "Chipotle meets Pizza" style, patrons move down a cafeteria-style line and choose which toppings they would like to have on their personally fire-baked pizza pie. I chose the "Artisian" which was artichoke hearts, ricotta cheese, mozzarella, and basil. It was incredible. It's almost as if the chain has "Americanized" Italian-style pizza because the pies comes out of the oven perfectly round with no imperfections like you might find in authentic Italian pizzas served at, for example, Eataly and Spacca Napoli. But it's ok because the pizza is out-of-this-world delicious so who cares? I am guessing that the whole process, without much of a line (they move quickly), is about 10 minutes from order to delivery, so that's not bad either. Fast. Cheap. Delicious. read more

Service and Pizza Great stuff. Staff and Manager were awesome.. they run a top notch store...clean and inviting atmosphere and staff makes you feel appreciated and wanting to come back. We stopped in Blaze for lunch and had a LONG, but enjoyable, time. Décor: Think of this place as the Chipotle of pizza. You "create" your pizza as you walk down the line of ingredients and they cook it for you very quickly. Even the décor has a bit of the same feel to it: lots of tables, basic look and feel, tables outside... not much to it. But it doesn't need much, other than more space to accommodate the lunch rush (and I do mean LUNCH RUSH! It gets CROWDED at lunchtime!) Bathroom: unknown Staff: Despite the massive line the staff was friendly, upbeat, and very cheerful. It was a nice surprise given the rest of us customers were starting to get a bit surly having to wait so long (we waited 30mins to order and then another 15 for our food to be made... a bit longer than the "180sec" claim). The problem is not the staff, the problem is the process: they have just as many online orders as they do in-person orders and it severely backs everything up. Food: While it did take a while, our pizzas were hot and fresh and absolutely DELICIOUS! Really, I cannot stress it enough, they are SO GOOD! We kept it simple too, with just a pepperoni and a sausage, and were blown away. Btw, if you like spicy, get the spicy red sauce! The pizza sizes are enough for a normal person but if you have a big appetite you might want to go for the unlimited toppings or, like I plan to do next time, get two pizzas (they are VERY thin crust pizzas). Value: The prices are pretty cheap here, especially given that an "unlimited topping" pizza costs the same as a "special" pizza and only slightly more than a single-topping. Wow! Great value! After standing in a line for over 30 minutes the staff proclaimed they were not taking any more walk-in orders including people already there at the time. I understand the few staff there were overwhelmed, but they should have served the people already waiting and locked the doors / turned off the systems earlier if that was they case. I was in the mood for a pizza, but on a budget and really wanted a regular pizza and not deep dish for $20. Checked Yelp, and this place came up as the place to go. When I got there I was a bit sceptical, since you could get a medium sized pie with as many toppings as you like for under $9. I must say, the value ratio here is very high. I've had Blaze Pizza at other locations and have also had Pieology Pizzeria (same concept as Blaze) in California and they were both so much better. For $8.75 you can create your own pizza which is super fair, but at this Blaze they don't put on a ton of toppings. You honestly barely get any of anything. My boyfriend's pizza still had tons of tomato sauce showing because there simply wasn't enough cheese on it. The employees seem cheerful, but also distracted. The two people messed up our toppings and finishes multiple times (not that we minded that much since we're not particularly picky) but I can see how it could be bothersome for others. Overall, this place seems fine. I would come back if I could get actual toppings on my pizza like I have at other locations. read more

I mirror the sentiment of many other people that have left reviews. Blaze Pizza can legitimately describe themselves as Quick, Cheap, and Delicious in the same sentence. As others have mentioned, Blaze is set up similar to Chipotle. You can choose a pre-determined type or you can opt to create your own. The selection and potential combination of pizza toppings is endless. There's 3 different sauces and 3 different drizzles. There are 7 different types of meats including Bacon, Meatballs, Ham, Chicken, Sausage, Salami and Pepperoni. I try to hold back from ordering all 7 meats on a single pizza. There's a large variety of cheeses and veggies and as I said before, the combinations are endless. Blaze is set up in a Chipotle-Style assembly line. Even when the line is long, which it can be during the lunch rush, you're never left waiting too long. They are FAST and they are EFFICIENT. They are also quite friendly which is a nice touch. I've never had a problem with the service here as everyone has been friendly, courteous and helpful. The pizza is pretty cheap. You'll pay maybe 8-12 dollars for a pizza depending on what you've put on yours. 8-12 dollars for the speed, quality, and sheer volume of food is a pretty good deal! Blaze has worked its way into my rotation for lunchtime options when working in Chicago. read more

First time at this location, second time at Blaze Pizza overall. My girlfriend was hesitant to come due to her effort to try and eat healthy but with the customization she was happy to try. She tried something off the standard choices and I customized. Both our pizzas were very good. She also ordered a side salad but since they were out of containers for the side salad, she got a full salad at the side salad price which was a nice bonus. Went here for lunch and i knew 2 things. 1. It was a bad idea to have been there around noon (Cause this place was packed and the line was extending outside the store) 2. Yeah, you guessed it the food was good.( Its pizzas made by you how can it go wrong) They do have specialty pizzas, but i decide to make my own. Rude employees refused to do an equipment change for a severe gluten allergy. I guess I'm experiencing a Mandela effect as she informed me that changing the sauce ladle that touches every other gluten pizza for my gluten free pizza was something they simply don't do and apparently never did. I've been to this location and every other location in chicago several times, each time I was granted the privilege of this apparently elusive change of equipment. This experience did occur on Pi Day, but unfortunately food allergies do not subside just because certain employees feel stressed. Thankfully the man who cut my already contaminated pizza that I felt pressured to continue purchasing made me realize that in fact I was not a crazy Karen, he confirmed the equipment change was a real protocol, not a false memory/Mandela effect. At least he works there, wish I knew his name because someone should give him a bonus for being a rational and positive person who GAF about customers. read more
