I ordered a plain BIG a wreck and am lactose intolerant. They never asked me if I wanted any cheese on it or not so I assumed they just don't put it. But when I got it, it had cheese on it. Then I went back and let them know to remake the sandwich. And they told me that I need to always let the first person that builds the sandwich know to avoid the cheese. Yet at literally any other place, they always ask. And mind you, this is the Loop downtown location that's supposed to be the most popular one. So on top of messing up, they blamed me for not sayin it. And then when they remade the sandwich, instead of a BIG, they gave me the skinny size. Even though I paid full price for the BIG one. Additionally, when I walked up the cashier was rude and always said "What" when you came to talk to her and acted like she don't know what we have. read more

I enjoyed the food during my Potbelly's lunch. However, my friend's pocketbook which was placed between her and the wall in a booth was stolen. We never left the booth and could only imagine that it must have slid off the seat and somehow was pulled to the booth behind us. When the manager was asked if a pocketbook was found, they seemed unconcerned. There were no cameras inside. Security personnel in the building informed us that at one time there were signs in this restaurant reminding patrons to keep items on their body, but those signs had been removed. The building security contacted the manager who seemed unconcerned. Since we were visiting Chicago, my friend had to go to the police station to get report in order to get on the plane to return home. When purchasing a new pocketbook and telling the clerk what had happened, the clerk shared that particular Potbelly's had many events like my friend's. Be aware every moment!! read more

As a Californian, I've never heard of Potbelly, so I was excited to try their sandwich options for lunch. Since I work in the area, I stopped by to pick up a quick lunch. The ordering system was a little confusing to me at first. Basically, you tell the person with the iPad who's standing by the line what your order is. Then when you get the counter, you tell the other person what your order is, who will tell you which of 3 people to stand in front of. Then you tell that person if you want all of the fixings/sauces on your sandwich. After that, he/she hands the sandwich to you and you continue walking to pay in front of the cashier. The system seems inefficient to me because I had to repeat my order 4 times to different people? Good thing my sandwich was delicious! I ordered The Wreck, which is salami, angus roast beef, oven roasted turkey, hickory smoked ham with melted Swiss cheese topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and mayo on multigrain. Everything in the sandwich worked well together and nothing fell out. I would suggest eating quickly though, because the bread will get soggy. Potbelly also carries my all-time fave Zapp's chips, so that's another plus! I've heard that Potbelly will be opening locations in SoCal soon, so I'm super excited! I ordered a small/skinny sandwich and was charged for a regular sandwich. When I caught the mistake a woman told me she would charge me for the skinny sandwich. I slide it across the counter and the employee said I threw it at the cashier. I am a 70 year old senior and very frail. I just slid it. I told her she was mistaken and she gave me a dirty look. I said this is the third time they've gotten my order wrong. She told me not to go back there anymore as long as I was dissatisfied. A customer standing next to me said you didn't throw anything, you gently pushed it. The customer told me to call corporate. I then asked the name of the original woman who was falsifying about my returning the sandwich and she said no way am I giving it to you. I then asked the cashier the name of the woman who got so surly with me and the woman said to the cashier don't you dare tell her. I called corporate headquarters three times and left messages each time, and never heard a word from them. I did not hear from corporate but the manager and Potbelly's called me and she did apologize. She told me that the employees were afraid of the customers at that particular restaurant. I've never heard of such a lame or flimsy excuse in all of my life. She told me the district manager would call me in a couple of days. That was two weeks ago. Not a word. read more

Points for being open on Saturdays. Seriously, lots of places in the Loop close on Saturday but this is not one of them. What else can be said? It is Potbellys. Food is pretty standard. I enjoy both the sandwiches and salads. I also enjoy the variety of beverages and chips. Staff is professional and pleasant. And if you work at 55 W Monroe you can eat here without having to leave the building. Very helpful when you forget to bring lunch and the weather is nasty. read more

Grabbed lunch to go from here and loved it, as I knew I would (being a HUGE Potbelly fan). Decor: It's a Potbelly so you get the standard random stuff on the walls and semi-hipster vibe. However, this is a decent-sized location so if you wanted to stay and eat you should be able to find a seat. Bathroom: None. Staff: The staff is always speedy with taking orders, making sandwiches and completing transactions. On top of that they are usually always smiling and more than friendly while getting down to business and making your grub. Food: The food is always delicious at Potbelly. When I cannot think of anywhere else to go I always hit it up because I know I'm getting a good solid meal. I always end up getting the same thing too: a big Wreck on wheat, potato salad, and chips. If I'm feeling like a treat then I'll get a sugar cookie because they are absolutely the BEST cookies in the entire world. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Somehow they figured out the exact time to take them out of the oven so they are right on that line of just-cooked raw cookie dough. Fantastic! But THIS time I tried the new Pulled Pork sandwich and I was pretty impressed. The BBQ sauce is very tasty and they put a lot of meat on the sandwich - I'd suggest loading on the toppings though. Value: The distance your dollar goes here is great! You can easily walk out with a solid lunch and not spend much more than $10 and change. I love Potbelly and always have. Great sandwiches! My hubby and I were hungry and wanted a quick bite somewhere. We looked on Yelp and saw that Potbelly was nearby. It sounded just like what we were looking for. I couldn't believe how reasonable their prices were for Chicago. I got the Italian sandwich with salami, pepperoni and capicola and my husband got a Wreck. We were both very happy with our sandwiches and pleasantly surprised that they were toasted. Now that's how you make a sandwich! The service was very good and the staff was quick and efficient. I really like this place a lot. I can see why it's a popular place. Next time I want to try one of their soups or a salad. Potbelly's is way better than Subway's or Jimmy John's. My first time at a potbelly (even though we have these where I am from). Meats taste fresh. Sandwich tastes fresh as well. They offer soups and Mac and cheese where you can add-in peppers, chili and a few other things. I ordered the turkey with cheddar and bacon and added the Italian seasoning. It was pretty good! Sure, you could go to Panda Express or that freakish multinational conglomerate of comestibles in Chase Plaza but at the hideously decorated GM factory of lunch we call Potbelly you will get something truly unique. Namely, a good sized sandwich stuffed with more fucking meat than you could ever need for under $6. Seriously. Double turkey on wheat with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and hot peppers will run you $5.89 after tax. And it will land in your bellylike a meat brick and stay there for days leaving you sated and sweaty for all the world like a postcoital afterglow. Normally a postcoital afterglow will run you $50, easy. Sure, they're a chain and sure, they're busy as Hell and sure, they have so many insipid signs about horseshit or milkshakes or God alone knows what but it isn't about your fey ideals or your staunch anticonglomerate speeches or the degradation of corporate wage-slavery. It's about lunch, God damn it. Cheap lunch that will fill you up so you can get back to shilling for The Man. And in that particular category, my little crusaders for social justice and vegan leather jackets, Potbelly owns you. I rarely go to Potbelly's as a matter of fact this is really the only one that I ever go. The average food/portions are just not worth it to me as there are better places for sandwiches in the Loop. When I do go here I am always there around 5:45 PM. The place is always empty and quiet. So you know what I think of the food but there is one guy behind the counter who always asks me at least twice what i want on my sandwich. Grrrrr... I tell the guy who takes my order, I tell the guy who makes my order and then the guy who makes my order asks me again ALWAYS! The loaded baked potato soup was a pleasant surprise! read more

I don't recommend everyone try this but let me tell you a little story. Yesterday was a very busy and frantic day and at lunch I decided to stick close to the office so I figured I'd make a mad dash to Potbelly across the street. I walked in and waited in line, ordered my sandwich and shake and debated about chips. Then I got my toppings on my sandwich and headed towards the register. When I went to get my wallet out of my purse I remembered I had taken it out and didn't put it back in. I was horrified, shocked and a wee embarrassed. I asked if they would hold my sandwich and I would come right back with my wallet. Mind you I had been waiting in line for about 15-20 minutes. The manager was standing there and said it would take to long to delete the order from the register so he gave me my sandwich and drink for free! Yes that's right for FREE! I was again in shock and also a wee embarrassed. The manager seemed to be in good humor about it and said he would remember next time. And I have no doubt that he won't remember me. I just hope I don't ever EVER forget my wallet again. read more

Friendly staff offering smile and soup samples! Black Bean Sriracha Soup is delicious. It's not the puréed variety, but a lively mix of finely chopped veggies, including black beans, onions, tomatoes and celery. The Sriracha lends a slight kick of spice and garlic that can only be had from the magic of Sriracha. Their ham is particularly smokey which is excellent when crisped up in the oven. Apparently this is a staple lunch spot in Chicago. On a recent business trip we stopped in for a deli style sandwich. I got the turkey sandwich and it was fantastic. Kinda hard to screw up a turkey sandwich but still, this was great. It's your typical deli style diner but with one small twist. I'm not sure if it might be just the day we were there, but there was live music during lunch that day. That's a cool way to differentiate yourself as a restaurant and I love spots that stand out from the rest. Good job Potbelly! This Potbelly is in my office building and I have nothing but good things to say about their staff, food preparation, and how quickly they get you your order even during the crazy lunch rush. The manager is super hands on and always has a smile on his face, and you can tell that the place is well run because the same pleasant employees are always present which means the turnover is super low. I love Potbelly and practically don't have to leave my desk to get a delicious sandwich or smoothie. I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could! read more

This is by no means the only Potbelly that I've visited, but this place has consistently had the best service. The breakfast sandwiches are pretty good, though I can't resist getting all of the fixings which makes the sandwich not seem very breakfasty. My instincts tell me, though, that they might be a little bland if I didn't add those sweet, sweet condiments. Lunch, on the other hand, is unparalleled. There was a sandwich shop in my home town that I loved more than potbelly's "Wreck," but that's the only one I loved more. Their giardinera peppers are ridiculously good. The bread get's perfectly toasty so that it's got a crispy outer crust and a chewy center. Mmmmmm....potbelly... The only downside? Truth in advertising. Typically, I love my lunchtime forays to Potbelly's for cheapo, somewhat healthy fast food (turkey on skinny wheat, no mayo, delish!), but today was not the case. First of all, Ms. HeavyBlackEyeliner (which, p.s. sweetheart, is not cute, not on Fall Out Boy, not on you) skipped over me in line when it was time to order. So when I let the lady who DID get to order go in front of me, she realized that maybe she had missed someone... ME! It wasn't even busy. Christ all mighty, the line had 10 people in it, which is NOTHING for Potbelly's. And her attitude which followed = not cool. Also, I was a big fan of the buffoons in line behind me. Note: If you are 60+, it is not funny if you start yelling for soup pretending to be an employee. Well, maybe it would have been. If I weren't in a foul mood.
