Very disappointing. We went here based on the 4 star rating...not at all what our experience was. The service, host excluded, was marginal and disinterested. They were out of the beer we wanted, no problem, but she did not then suggest others or show any interest in helping. The menu looked great! The food however was tasteless. I do not salt my food, but I salted this meal. The bun on the sandwich was flavorless and gummy, and there was no acidic bite from the coleslaw or what was supposed to be a lemon aoli...there was no flavor. Sadly, I left feeling unsatisfied. I knew calorically I had eaten a big meal, but was wanting something else after that disappointment. The service continued to be poor in terms of the time it took to pay. Will not return. read more

One of my favorites in the area. Poutine is something else, as well as the regular duck fat fries. Beer selection is awesome. Everything from IPAs, ales and my favorite.. sours! Pizza's solid but have had a so-so steak in the past. Atmosphere is awesome but can be a little pricey for what it is. Rarely do I walk away not spending $120+ for a party of 2. read more

Blaze - I don't believe in Christ, but I believe in poutine. - Bars Near Me - Bangor, Maine

We got here pretty late in the evening (30 mins to kitchen closing), but the service was excellent and prompt. We had the Chorizo and Manzano pizza which was wonderful (shared between two); the thai chicken poppers were ok, nothing screaming "thai food", but not too shabby. Ambience was nice (they had indoor and outdoor seating available). Large variety of alcoholic drinks (including local drafts). read more

I have been at Blaze multiple times. Overall, food is good. Burgers, Pizzas and appetizers are their specialties here.

Glad Blaze was open when we arrived from a long trip to Maine from the Midwest! Pizzas were delicious, hard apple cider on tap was refreshing. Great place to stop by between the drive from Portland to Bar Harbor. Definitely recommended! read more

The young female hostess was rude and wasn't friendly at all. I wanted to leave but my boyfriend was hungry so we ended up staying. We came all the way from DC and was so excited to check out a new restaurant in Maine after hiking at Acadia National Park. I'm so disappointed. The waitress was super nice though. The tables were too close to each other. Food was 3/5. I got the chicken salad & my boyfriend got the crab cakes. read more

A lot of what previous reviewers said was true-service is very slow. We waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. We also waited a long time for our food mid afternoon on a Sunday when they didn't seem too busy. Food overall was good-not great because not much of what we got was real HOT-everything was lukewarm at best-even our pizzas! We started with the garlic Parmesan wings. Flavor was fabulous-and they would've been outstanding if they were hot. Once waiter came he was good at keeping our water filled and coming back to check on us. Pizza was very good-but again-would've been even better if really hot. They do have a "build your own" pizza with a long list of choices for toppings-which I am a big fan of. The roasted garlic was delicious! Over all-including tip-we spent over $60 on two pizzas and wings-no drinks we stuck with water. A bit too pricey for what we got. Verdict is still out on whether we will return or not. read more

We sat on the patio with our dog, and enjoyed beers and small plates. We are familiar with Blaze Bar Harbor and similarly the Bangor location has a creative and delicious menu. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we ordered chorizo mussels that didn't seem to have any chorizo or chorizo taste, though the mussels were very good, served with a hefty portion of onions in the broth and 4 pieces of bread which was great, as I feel most places don't give enough. Also ordered the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese bites which were 3 HUGE balls, lots and lots of flavor. Good beer menu and they had good precautions during COVID. read more

Food is great! Service has been poor the few times we have gone but it's still worth going because the food is so good.

Nothing really wrong with this restaurant but most definitely not worth the price. The best thing we got was the dipping sauce for the fries. It's disappointing to see a "wood fire pizza" place only have a few pizza choices. Seems they are trying too hard. Edit to my original review... I thought I'd give Blaze another shot and was even more disappointed. We ordered the meatloaf panini and Cubano. I received the wrong order and have been there for already an hour, we were running out of time to eat. Once home, I tried my meatloaf sandwich; I was so disappointed. I ate about a quarter of the sandwich as it was incredibly salty and the meatloaf was dense. The cubano, to my surprise, was even saltier!! The roasted side salad was one of the better side salads I've had but a bit too much onion. Disappointing to pay $60 for a lunch I had to take home to not eat. This will be our last time at Blaze. And again the dipping sauce - roasted garlic aioli was the highlight of the experience. Good job on your dipping sauces! read more

The food is sub par and the owner of this establishment has no regard for his staff. Please don't support a business that mentally abuses their staff and puts profit above their safety and well being. Also, if you saw the state of this kitchen, I promise you would never eat here again. read more

This is one of my most favorite places to eat, anywhere. The first time i ate here, I was excited to learn we could find good pizza in Maine. But the best thing on the menu, in my opinion, is the poutine. I've tried poutine at a lot of places, including many places in Canada. Some come close to being delicious or cheesy or just plain comforting, but Blaze takes it one step farther. The poutine here is made with duck fat gravy. The cheese is actual cheese curd. The fries are crispy, but still take on the gravy well. It can be a little pricey by Maine standards, but the food is amazing. I highly recommend it. read more

This was a great find! We were in Brewer and all the restaurants were full or done serving brunch (sunday just after 11) so we decided to travel over downtown near the concert venue we were going to. We parked and started wandering. i first noticed the red umbrellas and the outdoor tables, man of which were full. We decided to give them a try. Ordered a carafe of blood orange mimosas and decided on food. We both liked the sound of the buttermilk fried chicken biscuit with bacon, hollondaise sauce, and a duck egg. Sounds AMAZING! We also like the sound of the breakfast pizza, ricotta cheese, duck sausage, potatoes, bacon, and cheese with a drizzle of maple syrup. Decided lets order both and share. They looked and tasted amazing! There was nothing not to like. The egg was cooked to perfection (well restaurant perfection, I forgot to order the egg hard). Everything was excellent. We will stop in again next time we head up to bangor. read more

Blaze used to be one of the best restaurants in Bangor, however, I have found the quality of their food has gone down and their prices gone up. Fortunately my favorite thing on the menu, poutine, is still delicious. This time around my wife and I brought my in laws for dinner. We were sat pretty quickly and the hostess was very friendly and welcoming. If you don't know, Blaze has the best draught beer list in the Bangor area, which is why we frequent the place. The waitress was ready to take our drink order and my mother in law wanted a taste of a cider before she got a whole glass. The waitress said that all samples are 45 cents a piece. That took me for a loop. I have never heard of a restaurant or brewery charging for a small sample of beer prior to purchasing a full glass. That is just good customer service to offer a free tasting. I asked when did that policy come into affect. The waitress said that is how it has been for at least 2 years. I questioned her as I have been coming to this place since it opened and have been served by numerous waitresses and bartenders and have never been charged for a small taste. The waitress told me they were doing it wrong. Well to say the least I did not get beer. In addition, While I appreciate the huge microbrew list, you will certainly pay for it. Most of the beers are not pints, but 10 or 13 oz. but they still charge a hefty price tag. I don't understand how they can charge $8 for a 13oz local brew when you can go down the road and get a 16 oz for $6. Obviously I expect a upcharge but not that much. For appetizers we got chicken wings and poutine. The poutine was awesome as always but the wings were average in my books. For dinner my father in law got tacos and then we ordered two wood fired pizzas. Now in the past their pizza was fantastic, but this time around it seemed to have changed. The cheese was not as good and the prosciutto on my pizza was too thick and rubbery. It would have been to cut it in small strips and make it crispy like bacon. Overall our experience was a huge disappointment. I think the only time I will go back is for happy hour where the beer is $5 each. On a good note, I appreciate that the locally source much of their meat and produce. read more

The place was nice but I was there with about 5 people and every single plate of food came out cold. We were all drinking water out of their own bottle when we realized there was mold around the top ring of the cap. After we pointed it out you would thing we would get a discount for cold food and mold but of course not. When we got our bill they charged us an extra $10 each for each mac and cheese we got because we were "adults" and the mac and cheese was on the kid menu but when we asked the waitress for just mac and cheese as a dinner she said it would be no problem. i'm from new york and i will never step foot back in that place ever again, i would rather eat stephens kings ass on his front lawn. read more

Fantastic craft beer menu, with over 60 choices. Really impressive. The menu was also quite varied, with use of the brick oven in all areas of the menu. If you like oysters, they have several wood roasted options. People enjoyed the burger menu options, and the duck fat fries were a real hit. I tried the haddock tacos, which came on a soft flour tortilla, that was nicely grilled off. The haddock was ample sized, and lightly battered and fried. It was moist and excellently prepared with a spicy slaw and aioli. I liked this place. I can get the comments on the pricing. It is on the high side, but I thought that the food quality and overall ambiance justified the pricing. 4 stars, recommend. read more

Came for New Years Eve 2016 Had reservations for about a week, got there and had to wait almost a half over for a table. Blaze did give us our first round of drinks and an app on the house, so that was nice of them. Everything else was terrible. Out of an extremely popular appetizer and it wasn't even 8pm Waitress couldn't recommend ANY beer Ordered 5 different beers and each time the waitress came back saying they were out Duck fat fries were cold I ordered tacos and the meat was freezing and my tortillas were burned black. Ended up getting charged for some of the beers that they were out of. Seems like this restaurant is trying to be hip and fancy but failing miserably. Waitress was nice and attentive but very uneducated about the extensive beer menu. I will never be back. read more

August 19th. Blaze came highly recommended via ratings here and elsewhere. First off the positives: The pizza my wife had was outstanding. Wild mushroom pie was highly tasty and perfectly cooked. My burger was Amazing. Now the rest: The hostess seemed annoyed with our presence. Showed us to our table like it was a chore. The server who never introduced herself by name seemed that we should honored to be waited on by her. We asked for suggestions about the menu, and she was rather indifferent about options. A bland "it's all good" doesn't sell a menu item. Over all service is a one star. Burger and pizza were excellent so...yeah. The duck fat French fries didn't taste like they were duck fat French fries. They tasted like frozen fries cooked in random vegetable oil. Pretty disappointed really. read more

Came here on my way out of the north country. Kind of surprised at all the 5 star reviews... It was decent food but nothing spectacular. Ordered basic and that is exactly what it was for big prices. Beer list is extensive and thoughtful but sometimes it's easy to get lost on so many choices -especially when the keg is kicked one what you finally decided on. Kind of confusing when portland sets the bar so high... Maybe bangor really is further out than i thought... read more

My wife and I showed up just before the end of their happy hour which is 4:30-6 Monday - Friday. It includes $4.50 craft beers (which they have 52 to to choose from), $1.25 oysters on half shell, and 25% off pizzas, apps, and burgers. We sat outside on their patio which is in the heart of downtown Bangor. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We order beers, six New England style oysters, their fried brussel spouts, and their When Pigs Fly pizza (bacon, goat cheese, arugula, and ground duck). The beer selection was top notch - lots of local choices. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the pizza and the brussel sprouts. read more

We stopped here for lunch on our way through Bangor, because we'd had a good prior experience at the Blaze in Bar Harbor. My young son and I were looking forward to a bowl of clam chowder, which we had enjoyed in BH. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday, and the restaurant only had a brunch menu. We ordered our food after getting our drinks, and the server let us know that the kitchen was a little behind so things were taking a little longer than usual. Almost an hour later, he finally brought my kids' pizzas out, although my husband and I were not given our meals. Then my husband's chorizo tacos arrived and I was brought a side of home fries and told my meal would "be out soon." There were two chorizo tacos which were skimpy at best, as if they had scraped the last remaining bits of chorizo and egg into them, and they did not have the sauce that was supposed to be on them. My homefries had a freezer taste to them. My husband waited to eat his tacos until my meal arrived, which was probably about 10 minutes later, which meant his meal was no longer hot and my kids were just about finished with theirs. My fried chicken sandwich did not have the chipotle sauce on it (or didn't have much if any). No one checked to see how the food was. The server did give us a discount of $8 for the food taking so long, which was about half off one meal. We were completely disappointed, as we weren't looking to spend over an hour and a half there. Additionally, the restaurant did not seem very clean, especially the restroom. We won't be back and would not recommend Blaze in Bangor to anyone (although the Bar Harbor restaurant is good). read more

Easy to get in even though it was a busy night, we got a table right away. The wait staff was not properly dressed in my opinion, a little too casual for the scene. They did serve us quickly though, but delivered the wrong food. My son ordered a 12" pizza with tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, but got a pizza with no tomato sauce. He was too hungry to send it back, and they messed up the receipt, charging us twice for "Ricotta Cheese" when there was no such thing on the pizza. My $28 ribeye ordered medium rare came out rare and cold and without flavor. I sent it back, they should have cooked me a new one but instead scraped off the bacon jam and cooked it some more. The "sweet potato gratin" was damn near raw sweet potato, but the greens were good. Also, although the beer menu is huge, all the beer is amazingly expensive and served in very small glasses. I wouldn't come here to drink. If I return I'd stick to a burger or one of the paninis. They can't screw that up, can they? read more

Their byline says it all: craft beer and wood fired flavors. Grilled Thai chili chicken wings, duck fat fries and wild mushroom pizza were perfect with a few pints of local IPA. The surprise hit was the pastrami salmon salad (salmon pastrami, watercress, rye bread crumbs, pickled red onion, Dijon aioli topped with a fried duck egg). Wow! Our server Zack was friendly and efficient (as were all the staff we encountered). Topped it all off with an Old Rasputin... Nitro infused Russian Imperial stout (abv 9%). Bad place to be on a diet. Solid five-star dining. read more

Their online menu is consistently outdated and wrong, despite having the same mistakes for over a YEAR. We are tired of asking for it to be updated. If you plan on ordering over the phone, forget it. They won't have half the things you try to order and it leaves you scrambling for an alternative. When we have eaten there, in person, the service depends on the server you have for that meal. The food can be good or excellent, for the price and other options in the area. Unfortunately, the menus being a guessing game all the time detract from the dining experience. read more

Had two pizzas and some beers - all great! Bartender was attentive and the staff was really nice. Good find!

I had a very enjoyable lunch at Blaze. I ordered a pizza with ricotta, mozzarella and roasted tomatoes. I thought the flavor was great with the mixture of the cheeses and the tomato. The crust is decent but I feel like it needs a little something to give it 5 stars. It's rather plain. The texture is good though. The hostess and waitress were both very sweet and attentive. Let's begin by saying, I would try this place again. Started with the French fries cooked in duck fat. Maybe a slightly more moist interior with a crispy outside (or it could have been the timing of the frying) and maybe a slightly more buttery flavor. Nothing amazing, they were fries. I ordered the fig & prosciutto w/drizzled ricotta. It was yummy, but there was too much ham which made the slices too salty. There wasn't a drizzle, but a full presence of ricotta. Hmm, there were sliced figs which there was suppose to be, but it was like eating sliced figs on top of my pizza, meaning the the toppings didn't blend together. I took a bite and it was a bite of ham, I took another bite and it was warm ricotta, took another bite and got crunchy fig. I felt too much toppings when a little could go a longer way. read more
