Blanco Café remains underwhelming, especially with many better options nearby. Service is often slow, chips and salsa aren't served unless specifically ordered. Seating usually involves a 15-20 minute wait. The fideo loco is only offered in a bowl and came out bland with a watery broth. Flour tortillas lacked freshness and flavor, and the cheese enchiladas were mediocre at best. read more

I think this is probably the most underrated barbecue spot in San Antonio. Its tubs of ice with sodas and beers welcomes you. When you get to the register, there are great combos to choose from. Usually the chicken is super tender. Today it was a little dry. The star of the menu is the marbled brisket. We are in Texas after all. I absolutely love that they trim the fat off the brisket before they serve it to you. This attention to details puts them above the rest. Every other place I've been to has served me brisket where half my order is fat. Their fries are crispy and salty outside and soft inside. Just perfect. I like to come here on weekdays before dinner, but after lunch. This place is stuffed to the gills on the weekend, so good luck, if you show up then. Even when there are a lot of customers, the food comes quickly. And if you love pickles, they've got a fantastic pickle bar, with fairly hot jalapenos. read more

PLEASE NOTE: If I had the option of giving unlimited infinity stars, I would!! I literally have ZERO complaints. This is my Granddaughter's favorite place to eat (play). We decided we would have her birthday party here. She was turning 4. At first we opted for the party room inside. That was booked at the time we needed so we decided on the back patio by the play area. I called and spoke to Brittney in the catering department. She was very professional over the phone and via email. She assured us there would be heaters on outside. I placed my order, paid for the food, ordered the cake (not from BBBQ) and sent the invites. The closer it got to the event my other twin granddaughters, 8 mos. caught colds the week leading up to the party and my daughter suggested they just stay home, but this was not an option as they were starting to feel better, plus my daughter would miss her nieces party and I couldn't have that. I called Brittney the day before the party and asked if there was any way we could just have some tables inside the restaurant due to the weather. She didn't even hesitate. She said she would call the store and see if they would be able to accommodate. I told her I would be happy with 2-3 tables as they were larger tables, even tho I knew it may not be enough space we would manage, as I wasn't trying to be difficult and I know they don't normally do parties inside the dining area. Of course the manager said yes and we were all set. Fast forward to Friday the 21st, evening of the party. It was to start at 7pm but I decided to arrive 30 minutes early and to my relief, they had us a small cake table, and 5 large tables!!!! All my stress just melted away as I walked in and saw that... not only did we have plenty of space for the food and presents, but everyone was able to sit and hang out comfortably. And of course you always have those few stragglers that don't RSVP and we ended up with about 10 extra guests, so it worked out perfectly. The gentleman who usually comes and sings al the George Strait songs was there so that was a plus. The food came out exactly on time and we didn't have to lift a finger... Josh made sure he set everything up for us. The food was delicious and freshly made. They even made sure we had all of the sides. It's was just amazing! They really outdid themselves on the service end. The cashier was so sweet and so friendly when we went to get extras like the buckets of beer and drinks, water, etc. my granddaughter had an amazing time and I couldn't have been more thrilled. They never rushed us and everyone was able to have a wonderful tim I will definitely be booking more parties here for sure. read more

One of our favorite BBQ spots in San Antonio to Doordash from! When my boyfriend and I finally went in person, we were pleasantly surprised by the fun country atmosphere and fast service! There is plenty of seating and the food comes out quickly! If you get the brisket, make sure to get it marbled for some additional fatty flavor! The sausage and BBQ sauce are also very flavorful and delicious. We enjoy their cream corn the most as a side. It has a creamy sweetness that is just right! read more

Normally the food is fantastic but last week things were off, really off. I ordered a well done burger with a side of onion rings at the drive thru. When I got home the top bun on my burger was scorched and nearly the whole inside of the burger was pink so I had to finish cooking it myself. Also, the onion rings tasted terrible, like the frying oil was overused. Couldn't even eat them. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! I'll find a new place to spend my money next time. Total disgrace!! read more

Best chicken tenders. The potato salad was creamy and delicious. The condiments bar made everything taste even better. Service was excellent. Will definitely return soon. read more

This place is great! Casual dining with a lot of seating, indoor and outdoor but outdoors was too hot to sit. Order at the front and they bring the food to you. Beer, wine, seltzers, soda in large drink containers and self serve BBQ fixings. Good selection of drinks. Beer was also available in buckets but we didn't need 6. I think this was $20 vs single was $4.25. Sides were great, got the creamed corn, fried okra, coleslaw and potato salad! Will stop by again. read more

Excellent BBQ!! Nice location and outdoor space for kids. Try the baked potato with brisket mmmm so good!

GET THE FRIED MUSHROOMS! The brisket is delicious, the mac and cheese is creamy and cheesy, sweet tea is perfect. One of our favorite BBQ places in the city. We drive across town on the regular to get some! They're always super quick with servicing our food and we love the vibe when they have live acoustic music inside. Also! Great play area outside for kiddos read more

My favorite is the 2-3 piece of catfish with 2 sides, a nice size drink and banana pudding for dessert. I am proud of not only how quick they are, even if they are packed. I love their service and look forward to getting my favorite meal from them as long as I reside in San Antonio, TX. read more

For a recent work event, my company catered in food/ desserts from a bunch of different San Antonio restaurants. As part of the order, the team ordered brisket, pulled pork, turkey, sausage, potato salad, beans and the fixings (bbq sauce, bread, pickles, onions, etc). I tried a little bit of everything - it all looked great! All of the meats were cooked nicely and didn't have a kick (spiciness) to them which can be a problem with sausage at many bbq places for me. I did think the brisket, pulled pork and sausage could've had a bit more "oomf" to them to make them stand out but I also can't put my finger on what they needed. The turkey however was perfect. The potato salad was a huge hit and I couldn't get enough of it- yum! On the other hand, the beans and bbq sauce were a miss for me and I was so glad they were on the side. One bite of beans and a taste of the bbq sauce were enough for me - no thank you. Overall, the food was good and I enjoyed it but this wasn't the best BBQ I've had in SA. The location of the restaurant is convenient to my house and office and easy to meet at with friends but I'd rather drive a bit further for something a bit more noteworthy. read more

We were visiting from out of state and knew we had to try Texas BBQ. We debated where to go and decided on Blanco. We were glad we did. It was very good and the service was fast. The BBQ sauce is very good too. We don't have anything to compare it against, but you won't be disappointed and it's reasonably priced. read more

I will start with the good. The location, ambience and service was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The service was fast. But what saddens me is this place used to serve great BBQ. It has been a few years since we had eaten there and we decided to give it a try as we were driving by. If I had to use one word to describe yesterday's food it is dry. We ordered the mixed plate which was a generous amount of food that we shared. The ham was the only thing not dry. They allowed us to taste the ham before we placed the order. The brisket was overcooked, the sausage was flavorless. I feel like I could get much better sausage at HEB. The ribs had a dry rub that was crumbling off not in a good way. They were also overcooked and dry. The pulled pork was Ok but I have had much better. The potato salad was so-so and really needed seasoning. The cream corn was pretty good. I really don't like writing a negative review but I can't tell you how disappointed we were. I'm giving it 2 stars only for the ambience and the staff. read more

Just got Uber Eats from here. Onions rings really good. Bbq sauce is very tasty. Cole slaw okay. Brisket dry as all gitout. This is Texas folks. One thing you should get right is the brisket. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Listed on receipt as a poor boy. No bun. Was just pulled pork wrapped in foil. Really? So disappointed. Also ordered turkey and sausage for dinner tomorrow and hope I won't be disappointed. Just can't stomach the thought of eating anything else tonight. Hate the thought that half of this expensive order will probably end up in the trash!!! read more

Not really bad, but not great, by any means. Got it to go. Maybe eating there is good, but the onion rings were soggy. The seasonings weren't spectacular or even good. Overall pretty good. I got the 1/2 chicken which was very tender and had good smoke, the borracho beans which were very different from what I'm used to. It was definitely thicker and more like a chili. It had very good depth of flavor and big chunks of meat in it which was really nice Broccoli was whatever...it's just broccoli but it needed some seasoning. read more

Wife and I had a late lunch yesterday at Blanco BBQ. Ordered the Mixed Plate with ham, sausage, brisket and ribs. Had same order several times in the past. Yesterday, I felt like I was eating re-heated leftovers. Food likely tasted better when 1st cooked - hard to tell how long it had been since. Sausage had a grey center (chose not to eat it). Ribs were not as fresh tasting as had been in the past. Mac & cheese was kind of watery. Overall, just kind of eh-feeling to the Mixed Plate. Probably won't rush back. read more

First thing you notice is all the signs on the door! Walk in to a bunch of picnic tables and even more signs. It's confusing and overwhelming. Someone shouted "welcome" but no one offered assistance or any directions. I saw the self service kiosk and ordered food. It said take receipt for your drink cup. Again no help and had no idea where to get my drink cup. My food came out right away. Then I had to hunt down utensils and napkins. Chicken tenders were not fresh. The breading fell right off. Not flavorful and really hard. The French fries should be called wedges. They were good but almost cold. Mac n cheese was ok. Less skunk signs and more clear directions would be nice. Now that I figured it out, I'll give them another try. read more

Blanco BBQ has sadly started to go downhill lately and tonight was bad enough to have me post this review after giving it multiple chances the past few months. It's a convenient neighborhood spot that I have enjoyed going to over the years, but sadly recently the quality of the food and especially the service has absolutely tanked. The prices are high, but the level of the food/service was more than enough to offset and still made it a good value...until lately. I got into the drive-thru line at 8:40 when closing is at 9. I ordered the 4 piece chicken strips, substitute the gravy for BBQ sauce, with mashed potatoes and onion rings for the sides. It super complicated and no comments from the lady taking my order. About 20 minutes of waiting later I get to the window. The gentleman there then tells me that they just threw out all the mashed potatoes and all they have left are green beans, borracho beans, and cream corn. A bit annoying that they'd throw food out while people are still in line (two cars still behind me), but things happen. Get the food and head home, where the 4 piece with BBQ sauce is actually a 3 piece with gravy. Which is odd because there isn't a 3 piece on the menu, so all I can imagine is that is what was left over and it was thrown into the box hoping I wouldn't notice. So over 18 dollars where the only thing accurate were the onion rings. Very disappointing and sadly I can no longer recommend people visit Blanco BBQ. read more

Food in San Antonio I find, it matters what side of town you shop for a great bbq dining experience regardless of take out or dine in. This is not my usual and definitely not good at all. Service I ordered thru the drive thru and asked for a little time as I was unfamiliar with and new to this business (the establishment NOT bbq). I told the lady it was my first time. You'd think this would be a clue to any service representative to introduce and perhaps make recommendations to the customer; that's good business and representation of your brand. She didn't have a clue nor caught it. Food again: I ordered a 2 meat plate & 2 sides. Brisket & sausage with mashed potatoes and green beans. The brisket was all lean pieces and with a few more minutes of air exposure would have completely dry. The sausage, where do they get theirs. Low-grade greasy (as sausage usually is) and nothing to come back for. The green beans were loaded with the thick slices of the onion and some kind of meat. They did nothing to add flavor. The mashed potatoes contained pieces of skin if you like your potatoes done that way. Had she given me a few suggestions perhaps it would have been a better experience. But if you are driving from one appointment to another and see this place or any other that is not you usual, drive by and save your "taste" for your go to bbq. This is not the place for what it cost. Was not great and not filling. read more

Ok, food was great, customer service on point. Only gripe, when doing a take out, if you order desert, make sure it's in the bag...

Unfortunate experience for our first time and only time. We had a $50.00 gift certificate that was gifted to me a year & half ago but it wasn't honored due to a change in their system. Had the receipt but management refused to honor it and stated we could contact their accountant but they wouldn't honor it either. Disappointed read more

What I like about Blanco BBQ is the amount of room and ambience in which you get to enjoy your generous portion of barbecue. We were there to farewell some friends and so it was nearly 8 families with 1.5 each taking up the entire back patio for meat and cake. The main dining area is lit up by incandescent and vintage neon signs. There is a party room in the back, another patio out front and a drive thru. All in all this place is size-able I found the brisket to be a bit dry, but it wasn't tough or overdone...I just like moist brisket. I'm certain it would have been fine in a brisket sandwich. The sausage and smoked turkey were great. The charro beans, onion rings, potato salad were all very good. They have a one meat/grill cheese and one side option for the kids. The sides vary, but again the portions are aplenty...so, if you get the side that you love you may fill up in those. There's a trough of beer and soft drink bottles up front and fountain drinks in the back, to include southern sweetened (extra sweet) iced tea. The staff is friendly and they bus your table. Super nice offering to take your multiple trays to the table. Just north of Hardberger Park, and you can miss the big since 2013 neon sign in the front at night. Pretty cool place with plenty of old signs and gas station memorabilia. read more

I picked up a Turkey Plate for Thanksgiving. I wasn't sure if it would be any good, but I was pleasantly surprised. The smoked turkey was good, the dressing was good, and so was the potato salad. They did include a good cream gravy and cranberry sauce. I also ordered a slice of pumpkin pie. It was a little small but was pretty good. They packaged everything very well. Last month, I attended the Air Force retirement ceremony of my cousin, which was hosted at Blanco BBQ. It was a rather rainy and cold day, but the greeters warmed us with their Texas smiles and hospitality. As I scanned the room, I noticed even the rain couldn't stop brisket loving Texans from coming out, as the front area was nearly full. We were escorted to the back area and informed that our party's reservation was only for 2 hours. While the guest arrived, the team placed bowls of fried okra, mac and cheese, onions, bread, smoked chicken, brisket and pulled pork around the table. The set up was nice as we moved about from table to table adding smoked meats to our plates. Lord knows 7 days into my New Years Resolution I wanted to be stronger... but alas, the smoked meats and cheesy mac were calling my name (foodie issues)... New Years's Resolution aside, I strolled the table, laddering food for perfect placement and settled into my seat to discuss the military career of our honored guest. The food was delicious, and I'll add that extra attention was paid to the perfectly crispy bites of okra. I will say that the smoked chicken was my favorite and had a nice hint of smoke to it. We dined and laughed, but our party seemed as if we had to rush to eat, as we were reminded a few times that our time was shortly coming to an end. While there were many tables in the back area, they quickly filled up with other patrons to watch the NFL games. I knew it was a wrap when I saw the staff packing up the leftovers and hovering nearby. I can't complain as my tummy had reached capacity 30 minutes ago and the lids on my eyes were getting heavy (lol). But as a lover of sweets, I dived into my cake and sipped on some sweet tea (needed more sugar) while others said their goodbyes. At the 2-hour mark, our party was politely reminded that our reservation had expired and we hugged and parted ways. While I do love Big Bibs and The Smoke Shack for my San Antonio BBQ, I will say that Blanco BBQ has been added to the team. Recommended. ~ Da Islandgal29412 read more

My biggest complaint is the BBQ isn't that great.....sides included. Baked potato was served hot and was good... Service ..::no waitstaff, you order and pay at the front. Line usually quick, sometimes feels rushed. Special instructions usually ignored. I really want to like this Place....I really do. Place is rustic and cozy.....lots of seating(no padding so you sit on wood that tortures that rear end) The Live Music was very entertaining by Bobby. Lots of oldies and mostly goodies. Just the right volume and mood I think if they make the BBQ beef and turkey more fresh and keep it at least warm. Watch serving those crappy dry end cuts.....pretty gross.... Cashier said Potato Salad was homemade, I don't think so. Like I said I really want to like this Place but just cannot like the food. Overall, just a ok experience. The back area outdoor deck is nice to eat at to enjoy some fresh air. Ordered the two meat plate with sausage and lean sliced brisket. The brisket was extremely dry and you could visually tell that it had no moisture at all. Had to drown it in BBQ sauce to eat it all. The sausage was great and juicy where that would be what to get again. The side of potato salad was pretty bland and I only took a few bites. The fried okra was on point. Very crispy and just salty enough to blend the fried breading well. I most likely would only go if a large group wanted to do an event or was invited out compared to most of the other BBQ places. read more
