The new Blackie's is not the old Blackie's! More of a bar atmosphere and not a restaurant. Understand the limited menu due to COVID, however the amazing flavor did not move with the business. I had the pastrami sandwich which was very bland and my daughter had the pulled pork which she said was OK. 2 sandwiches with sweet potato fries and a drink each was $70. Would not rush back until I see consistent better reviews. read more

Horrendous. Skip. Waited at the counter for almost five minutes while the hostess talked on the phone; no acknowledgement at all. Never looked up. Rude. Great variety of menu items, quality good and beautiful atmosphere. Drinks are a little pricey

The new Blackie's is fantastic! The vibe right away is modern chic and inviting. They expanded from the original property right down the road. The owners take an immense amount of care into their patrons and I adore them for their initiatives. The food is prepared from order to table so yes, this means you'll have to converse with your friends and family while the food is being prepared but I assure you it's worth the wait! Blackie's is perfect for those who are vegetarian, paleo or gluten free. The owners have done their research and take great pride in their dishes for EVERYBODY! I love this aspect about Blackie's because this means that my wife can eat here and never have a worry about any type of cross contamination. I highly recommend Blackie's. With their reservation system available online, it will be a wonderful experience from start to finish! read more

This place is such a great addition to Rhode Island's food scene. They are excellent with dietary restrictions (I have celiac and must eat gluten free), almost all their menu items can be modified to fit whatever allergies or restrictions are necessary. It's a little loud in there, so if you're going for a quiet meal, this probably isn't your scene. My one complaint (other than there's too much good stuff to choose from on the menu), is the staff greeting when you come in. They act like they're doing you a favor by existing. All of my experiences with the waitstaff have been pleasant, though. read more

I have never even heard of this place, so when a friend selected it, I was genuinely eager to try it out. We got there at noon on a Friday and it was already pretty busy. The servers are good, but you can't be in a hurry - or too hungry or you'll get irritated. My friend said she has come many tomes and never had anything she didn't like , so that sounded good to me! The menu is overwhelming!!! And they have a separate Gluten Free menu as well. I wanted to try so many things... the 2 salads looked amazing, but while the basic price was good (10.00 for the Sunday salad) , to add a piece of salmon or steak brought me up to a salad that costs $5-13.00 more. Maybe another time. We both ended up ordering the Nachos - with veggie chili , sharp white cheddar cheese sauce, pickled jalapeños, freshly squished guacamole, smoked salsa , sour cream -$16.00 ( you can add 4oz of extra yellow cheese for $2.00 more). I also asked for shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and sliced black olives which they added for 25 cents more for each. (Don't bother though - the 4 pieces of chopped tomatoes, 4 slices of olives and a scant few pieces of shredded lettuce isn't worth it. I would have rather paid more to get a decent amount). They came plated in a large square bowl with the long rectangle chips piled in the center and cheese and veggie chili poured over the top. The sides were in the corners of the bowl - sour cream, guac, salsa. I prefer my nachos spread out a bit more but they were still good. The veggie chili was yummy but I was not a huge fan of the sharp white cheddar cheese sauce. But the menu is so huge, I can certainly try many more things when we come back! We all like our nachos a certain way and this one for me was just average. I will definitely be back! read more

so, it was nice, the place was cute, the food was mid (definitely pricey, but that was expected) HOWEVER... the waitress was a little judgmental and rude, our server seemed to be short and snappy with us, maybe it was cuz we're young compared to the people who usually dine here (it was a few of us and a kid), but we didn't feel welcomed at all honestly. we've all been in the service industry so we get it, but it sucks cuz it was our second time coming, so this kind of ruined it for us. probably won't be coming back. read more

Rustic type atmosphere with several menus to choose from. They offer a private party room that can accommodate 40 people. Build your own burger charges for everything!!! on that burger, including mustard. The staff is friendly. The food is good. A bit pricey, but isn't everywhere lately. Appetizers range from $16-$25. Kids meals range from $8-$15. Brown sugar mayo to die for. read more

The food was salty and drowning in the white wine sauce. Service was not bad. The ambiance was chill.

Consistently excellent food. Go there whenever we can get in. Parking can be tight

I would recommend reading the menu beforehand as it took me quite awhile to digest it all and decide what to have. Luckily our waitress was super helpful. I decided on the veggie ramen, it was delicious and very filling. I had a glass of wine (their house wine) and it was yummy as well. Would definitely go back, prices are a little bit bigger than most places but they do cook with quality ingredients and have a menu to suit people with diet restrictions. read more

Good food, just pricey but I'll pay it for the vegan options they provide. So worth it!!

Everyone really likes Blackies so I went assuming it was over hyped, like most things. I remember going once at their old location and not being impressed so we decided to give the new location a go one afternoon when we were in the area. I know they are known for their long waits, so I was excited to see that they allowed some day online reservations.we arrived about 15 mins before our reservation and even though tables were open, they had us wait, which is fine I'm sure they were staggering Seating so everyone isn't overwhelming the kitchen. We were seated in the room without the bars. The room was a little too dark and the music too loud for 2pm for me. If it was a Friday/Saturday evening it would be the vibe, but 2 in the afternoon I was honestly wishing they'd turn the music down just a little and open a shade. The menu is large and I'm very thankful they have mocktails, this breastfeeding mama highly appreciates drink choices. They were a little much for soda water and juice at $7 but being a little more expensive than it should be was the menu theme. $20 pork nachos, an extra $2 if you want more cheese. The nachos were great, the meat was perfect and I realize they charge you a lot because after the app you realize you're full and don't need a meal! Ha! We ended up splitting a pizza and forgoing our original meal choices because the nacho really were filling. And then for dessert we had an amazing cookies and creme bread pudding. Overall we had a great time and the service was great. It was our first date out after having the baby so we were ok spending a little $$$. But overall and regarding the place as a whole, it was nice but the price would stop me from frequenting the place. The prices are even more expensive than going to a decently rated place in Prov. But for night outs and special celebrations we'd definitely come back. I enjoyed all the options! I don't love that they charged for every single extra thing, like the sauce with our chicken fingers was 0.25 cents. Not a lot, but it's all I asked for and tenders should really come with a sauce for free! The French fries were really great and I'm lucky I didn't taste them when I was pregnant because I'd be craving them always. Overall I would said choices and food and online reservations are 5/5, but price and atmosphere was a 3/5. read more

Every time I drive by their new place the parking lot seems to be full, so I wanted to check out the food and atmosphere and see if anything had changed from the old place. The parking lot is good size, there's an area for outdoor seating and it looks like construction is being done to that area as well. The inside seating is rather small for such a large building. The bar consumes most of the area along with the brick oven pizza station. We were seated in a big round booth and service was friendly and quick. It was 90 degrees outside and the ac inside wasn't really felt. We asked for it to be turned up, but it never happened. It was uncomfortable eating in such a warm environment. There were a lot of young children, but they don't have any children's menu offerings or crayon's to keep them occupied. The menu's are in suede holders, which added a rich feeling and in line with the high price menu options. The menu options are not the norm tavern fare. All sandwiches and burgers don't come with fries, that's an up charge. I settled on an Italian roast beef sandwich and upgraded to fries. The appetizer was burger Rangoon's. The Rangoon's were mushy inside and bland, no dipping sauces were offered with it. The sandwich was wrapped in paper and very greasy. The sauce on it overwhelmed the rest of the sandwich and no other flavors were there. The fries were hand cut and cooked well. The odd thing was the napkins are paper throw away, no salt &pepper at the table and when asked for a side of mayo we were given a bottle of mayo. We ate half the sandwich and left the rest. I wouldn't go back because nothing here was outstanding and the food prices aren't in line with the quality and taste. read more

When Blackies first opened up I couldn't get enough. However my last few visits have been disappointing. Flatbreads are much smaller and over cooked. Today I got a mac n cheese burger wrap. The description sounded awesome....the taste totally bland. And it's a turn off to have to pay an up charge of $3 to add fries to a burgers/sandwiches that are already 15-17$. We asked for more jalapeños on our nachos since they were scarce and they actually charged an extra dollar. Not worth the money anymore. We'll be taking a break from Blackie's. read more

Have you ever had to go to your 'happy place' in life? Welp, the Junkyard nachos are now my mind's point of reference for said happy place!! Tender, succulent pulled pork layered into guacamole and sour creamy covered crunchy nachos. I want to build a house for those flavors and live there forever! That was just the appetizer. Shizzam! Right from the gate we're home run status. It was a perfect fall day to sit on the patio and chat while we waited for the feast de résistance.I ordered the chi rib sangwich, yes saaangwich. An accurate description of what my heart did as I devoured that amazing meat filled goodness. Each of the people at the table did little more than chew and breathe when the entrees arrived. This was no time for chit-chat! I highly recommend you grab a bite to eat here. Get here before the cold kicks in, their patio is mad chill! Stay yelpy my friends read more

Great menu overall, but I was incredibly impressed with the extensive gluten-free menu. As someone with celiac disease, I will 100% be back. They gave dedicated kitchen areas that are considered gluten-free and the server knew exactly what I meant when I said "celiac" (which is not "gluten intolerant" or being a paleobro). I feel safe eating here. read more

This place is a 5 star for a Tavern. I've not had anything here that wasn't good. The portion is big so it's a good place to come with a lot of people to share. The place can get too loud if they have a few large parties. Wish they had a separate room for those. Service was great and friendly. We came before 6 pm in Wednesday and got seated right away. It got full around 6:30 pm. We had to park off the street. Tables were opening up again around 8:30 pm Now about food.. Taco pull pork - 4/5 portion is really big. We shared among 7 people and still had some left. A lot of people like it. Reuben 5/5. It's heavy but very good Kale salad 5/5 - very fresh, big portion so it could be a main dish! Spicy seafood Ramen 5/5 - 3 of us got this and we love it. It's the best Ramen I had in the New England. I was so surprised it's better than any Japanese Ramen restaurants. The noodle was soft. All the ingredients are super high quality Fish and Chip 5/5 - thick pieces of fish. Well executed. One of the best in the area. Chicken tacos- 4/5 For desserts... Carrot ice cream sandwich 5/5 - I didn't think I would like it since I like nuts on my carrot cake and this one is a nut free cake but so many people talked about it so I had to try. They were right! The cake was moist. Not too sweet, the ice cream surprisingly blended very well. The frosting was the perfect amount with a lot of whip cream. It's huge so I would recommend sharing. Double Chocolate Paleo Cookie 4.5/5 if you finish it quickly, I would give this a 5. When I first came out it was warm, soft with running chocolate in the middle. Then it gets dry out within a few mins. read more

Always excellent! Eat in or take out! Food is top notch --quality, creative and fresh-- and servers and staff knowledgeable and friendly.

The food was really good and the encouragement has a nice little ambiance. I recommend this place for any one.

Junkyard Nachos with pulled pork all day every day! The first time I had these years ago. I was blown away - heaping bowl of nachos with a creamy melted cheese sauce that stays melted til the cows come home and loaded with pillows of sweet pulled pork. Side of salsa, guac, sour cream and jalapenos but who's counting. And really, the serving is so huge - this eats like a meal enough for 2-3 people. Came with a gf last night, the place was packed as usual but luckily the bar area still had a few empty high top tables, so we got seated immediately. We came on a mission - pulled pork nachos, everything else was optional. I settled on a passionfruit cider, sounded interesting and it was good. Tasted more like a wine which I had no issues with (Rekordelig Passionfruit Hard Cider - yum!). Service was friendly and fast. The place does get extremely packed so if you're looking for a table - be prepared to wait a bit. They do have a small patio for outdoor eating as well. They also have a large gluten free menu. Doesn't matter what night it is, it will get busy. To me, the menu prices are a bit high for a "tavern" but I suppose they can do this due to the notoriety it's gained. And if it's good food, it's worth the price...most of the time. read more

I am from Massachusetts and came to Blackie's in Smithfield RI to have lunch with a friend from RI who I hadn't seen in some time. Neither of us had been before, but based on what my friend's sister recommended and based on the reviews written on Yelp, we decided to give it a try. The calamari appetizer that we got was the best calamari I've ever had. Generally speaking, Calamari has a tendency to be a bit tough and chewy, but this Calamari was very tender and tasty. I ordered a turkey burger and my friend had a burger. Both were delicious and the serving sizes very very generous. Based on what we ordered, what we got and the service we received, I feel as if the prices were a steal. Of course, I hail from the Boston area where prices tend to run very high. I wish Blackie's was closer to where I live, but I look forward to going back again when I'm in the area. read more

Went for dinner this evening with a reservation. Got there 15 mins early and they made us wait the full time to get seated even though we were the only ones waiting. They called us by a girls name when it was under a guys name. They sat us wY in the back and it took a bit long to get a server. We ordered an appetizer and it took a very long time to get it. After a long wait for our food, we found a fry at the bottom of our salad dressing. I showed our server and she sent over the manager. The manager made a joke out of it and began arguing that it could not possibly be from another customer. She said she knows the character of everyone there. She needs customer service training 101. I was completely grossed out. No apology and no offer to remove the cost . I would never recommend this place to anyone unless you like poor service and have 2 hours to eat dinner. They should remove the $18 appetizer charge and give it to the server if they think she deserved it. My opinion is that she hung around chatting with the table next to us for much too long. Didnt check in , i asked for our food to cone out with the appetizer she didn't do it. I had to ask for more drinks cuz she didn't check . If you standby the way this was handled, then your customers experience clearly is not whats most important . Wish you well. read more

I'm really not a fan. I went with a friend of mine for dinner. We split an appetizer f clams( like a clam Zuppa) She had fish and chips. I had a Thai fusion entree. Thank noodles stir-fry type of thing... Now, when you read the menu and it says scallops and shrimp; you expect more than one of each. One shrimp. One Scallop. Heres an odd question: who has ever heard of putting AVACADO on a Thai dish.... why not some pickled beets while you're at it ?? Don't get me wrong. I like avocado. Just not with my Thai stir fry. And really for $28- $30 (I believe that it was) you really should be putting more than one shrimp and scallop on my dish. The 'sauce' was not flavorful, rather plain... like a very liquid-y chop-suey sauce. OK . When you enter the restaurant , ask to be seated to the RIGHT of the building. It's at least interesting. Large fuzzy lime- green booths oddly shaped. Quieter. There's a very pretty bar there and what looked like another smaller counter/ bar. If you are seated to the LEFT (where we sat) you're basically sitting in an Ikea cafeteria. Gee, I wonder how the salmon is? Cram as many tables in there as possible. ( This was prior to Covid-19) Very hard surfaces. No linens. Noisy. Devoid of / or very few paintings or decoration. Plain; hard, cafeteria... or perhaps the grand step up to pizzeria. By the way with 2 glasses of wine each, the bill was $ 130. And I left hungry. We went to the bar afterward. I had one glass of wine. It was a Justin Excelsior- I hadn't had it in a long long time. $19 it was a MEASURED 4 ounce pour. Ever have a 4 OUNCE glass of wine? That went all too fast. It was the best part of my experience there and the biggest rip off. She had one glass a normal (6 oz pour?) ... we left. We never went back. I definitely won't. The Justin Exelsior was fabb-o. read more

My first time in the new building, and it looks amazing. They really did a great job in here. Menu was fun and reasonable as I remember from the old place. Was not blown away by my nachos but definitely not complaining! I ordered an Ocean State IPA as I formerly loves their beer list here. Tasted like rubber. Tried to harpoon after but that's incredibly basic. They lacked my favorite style, whaler's rise which I can get everywhere. After attempting one more pint of Tendril which was way too heavy for me, I went to Laura's where they have far more variety. I will try Blackies again in the winter and hope the beer list has improved. Service was great, wish them the best. read more
