I should've tried the pizza bar .. However, my friend and I tried Blackie's for lunch today because I passed by it the other day and wanted to stop by. The decor was contemporary and intimate. I feel like it was kind of a dark, but inviting atmosphere but that may be what is intended. We ordered the Rhody-Style Calamari as an appetizer which was a good portion to share. I honestly didn't care for the dipping sauce but the banana pepper batter looked identical to the calamari, but it was still good. I ordered the short rib fettucine which included kale, marsala wine reduction, shittake mushrooms and black garlic puree. I think the meal had a good amount of flavor from each ingredient and the portion was worth the price. My friend ordered the sticky steak tips with shrimp to make it "surf and turf" style for an extra $8. We honestly thought adding the shrimp wasn't worth it. I did enjoy trying the roasted heirloom carrots and brown butter brussel sprouts, however. Overall, good experience, good service, and would definitely return to try other items. I also appreciate how accomodating the restaurant is with certain diets such as paleo and keto, should have tried it when I was on keto myself. read more

Unbelievable food. Really was delicious which made up for the invisible wait staff . We had to wait excessive amounts of time waiting to order more food and drinks over and over got beyond annoying . Waiter was nice but knew nothing about any drinks couldn't answer any questions. Would say I'll find out then just never return. Fish in chips was good , cheese burger eggs rolls were ridiculously tasty . I'd most likely skip the buff chick dip next time , was a bit salty but loaded with chicken read more

A little over priced but I like the eclectic choice so it's a nice treat occasionally

Great looking restaurant. Large portions of food. Many gluten free options. Lovely outdoor patio.

This place is very overrated. My best friend loves the food here so I've had to go a few times unfortunately. Haha First off the food is mediocre and very greasy. Second they are always out of a lot of items on the menu and Third it is way overpriced! Also one of the owners used to be behind the bar at the old blackies before they relocated to this new building and she was so rude! We haven't seen her around much lately luckily. read more

The food is excellent!! Great options for people with gluten allergies. The service was great. I like the decor as well.

Update on the last review. Had to knock off some stars. Went three times in the past few months and they refuse to edit the pizzas. As if your pretentious food is holier than thou? Give the customer what try want, not what you think they should have. Was not trying to "make my own pizza" simply add a topping once and remove a topping another time. Both situations were greeted with "our pizzas can not be changed". read more

Was pretty much a let down. Had heard great things about the place. But the Ceasar salad was little to be desired and everything we wanted on the menu was out due to the upcoming change in menu. For someone who's vegetarian and doesn't want fried food, I'd look elsewhere. Staff was friendly. read more

This used to be the place to go, but have noticed quality is down. The place is always packed, but now there are a few more options in the area. Come on Blackies, get back to the basics. Loved this place a few years ago, but now it's just, meh read more

We like the food however the management and turnover of bar staff/servers seems to always be an issue even with their new location. Place is always packed however when I am in there and bar staff gets disrespected or reprimanded in front of their clients/customers it's a little concerning. When the staff is overwhelmed the managers should help them. read more

Food and service were good. I got the french onion steak bomb which ended up being about $30 when the menu says $26. Steak tasted somewhat fatty and wasn't a sandwich i would pay $30 for again. My partner got the pizza which was much better. I'd like to try some of their other menu items as it looked good, but would skip the french onion steak bomb. Interior was clean, and well decorated. read more

Absolutely love this place! One of my favorite restaurants in RI. Very creative menu and twists on comfort foods, plenty of gluten free options. Enjoyed the cheeseburger rangoons, yummy flavor and fun to eat. I also enjoyed the pizza mushroom caps. Pizza is absolutely delicious! Some folks complain about pricing but it's reasonable compared to what restaurants in Providence charge and the quality of food is better. Highly recommend! read more

Check out the new restaurant location with more space, contemporary decor and 2 bars(1 wine, 1 pizza). They have 2 custom made pizza ovens from Italy that will cook your pizza crispy in 2 min! If you are ordering pizza, sit at thE pizza bar for the full experience! My husband is very pretentious about his pizza because of Bar Stool Sports pizza reviews. He rates this pizza at a 7.8(very good rating for this scale). We ordered the bread pudding which was good, but for $9, I want ice cream on it. It needed whipped cream at least. They do have ice cream on the dessert me it. But, I'm not paying an extra $5 for ice cream for a total of $14 for dessert. All in all, if you want delicious food, check out their new spot! read more

Wonderful restaurant with unique and delicious food options! The carrot cake is the best dessert around!

Good food and has a complete gluten free menu to choose from. Was a great time with family and friends.

Me and my Fiance Shane, had an amazing experience tonight. Our Waitress Lilly, was literally one the best servers we've had in a long time. She was such a sweetheart, very attentive and a hard worker,Blackies restaurant should be happy to have someone like her on their team!! The food was absolutely amazing we had a porchetta crosontini appetizer that absolutely blew my mind. Our main course did not disappoint, we had a steak and cheese sandwich with American cheese and pepper jack with a chipotle mayo that had a nice kick!! Tried one evening earlier in week yet they were closed. Seems like Sat is their evening of busy time. Parking lot beginning to get full. Valet parking available. Hostesses very pleasant upon entering. Decor is interesting. Bathroom is nice & clean. Sat in one of back rooms on left side of building. As others say in reviews, considerably cold with a/c blowing near table. Food took AN HOUR if not MORE to come after ordering. Food took so long, one table nearby left abruptly bec of such. FOOD TOOK SO LONG THAT ONE OF THE MANAGERS HAD TO COME OVER AND APOLOGIZE AFTER WE NOTED SUCH TO WAITRESS. HOWEVER, they offered 1 free dessert bec of the wait. And we made it lighthearted, joking about it & waitress agreed it was taking long time. Food & dessert was okay, nothing to rave about. Vegan options offered also. Too bad no TV in room to entertain our eyes. The TV was in the dining room we passed to get to the room/table we were seated in. Overall, decent place to eat esp for big groups. read more

Many I know raved about Blackies. They'd just moved to their new location and I had to give them a try. I tried to make reservations for a Wednesday evening, but the earliest time I could find was 4:30. We arrived at 4:30. I told the hostess who greeted me who I was and the time of my reservation. She curtly replied, "We'll let you know when your table's ready."  A few minutes passed, as we hung out near the hostess station. The same woman I'd checked in with earlier asked if she could help us. When I told her a second time, we were seated immediately. Since they'd only opened in that location a week before, it seemed like something that would not usually happen. Our server greeted us promptly, and asked if we wanted drinks, or water. She said they offered, "Sparkling, flat, or tap." We decided on flat, so she brought us a bottle to share. Seemed odd,  but whatever. The menu offered so many choices it was difficult to decide. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. My friend ordered a brick-oven (wood fired) pizza. I got the Brisket dip appetizer that came with cheddar potato chips and some sort of chicken tacos with fries. We both ordered a couple drinks. The food was fantastic. Fresh, flavorful and delicious. It blew me away and I could see why it was so popular. There are many gluten-free and paleo-diet options as well. The dining room was open, with tiled floors and bare walls, which made the  background noise level rise significantly as the room gradually filled up. It was loud, but still possible to have a conversation. At least they didn't blast annoying background music like some places do. By the time we finished around 6:30 pm, the room was packed. There were no booths, only tables, and those were placed so closely that I wondered if a server or another guest walking behind us would bump our chairs. A server later bumped my friend's chair as she passed behind him carrying a child-booster seat. My friend had cheesecake for dessert, but I was stuffed. Then the check came. Our bottle of "flat" water was $9.00 Our server explained that tap water was complimentary, but that sparkling and flat were an extra charge (she did not explain that when we ordered). I told her that she did not mention the extra cost, so she spoke to her manager about it.  Her manager took it off the bill because, as she explained, it was our "first time there, and we were so nice." Gee, thanks for the favor, pal. Assume your customers know about an unusual practice of charging extra for water by not telling them before hand, then do them a "favor" by taking it off the bill after they question it. Next time, train all servers to say something like, "Tap water is complimentary. Bottled flat or sparkling water is available for an extra charge." It's not that difficult. On the way out, we stopped in the bathroom. One of the few men's rooms I've seen without a urinal. Two regular stalls, one handicapped stall. The food was outstanding, even if a bit pricey. I can see why it's popular. Nothing else in the area compares to it. I hope they don't fall victim to the arrogance that successful restaurants often develop, like they're doing you a favor when you're the one choosing to spend your money at their establishment. Would I go back? Not sure yet. Between the hassle of needing reservations, the cramped dining space (maybe should have bought a bigger building?), and the water misunderstanding, I might order takeout next time. read more

I was SO EXCITED to try Blackie's at their new location. We have been many times and never been disappointed. We only waited about 15 minutes and were seated in the room with the pizza oven. The restaurant was beautiful. The menu definitely had something for everyone. We ordered a bacon Alfredo pizza as an appetizer and it was GREAT. That was the highlight of the dinner. I ordered an alcoholic tea and the waitress brought me a beer. I ordered a burger and was told they ran out of pastrami. The waitress offered us chips, fries or sweet potato fries with our burgers but failed to tell us there was an additional charge. I wasn't asked how I wanted my burger cooked. When I received my burger, it came with regular instead of sweet potato. This place used to be my favorite but after the last visit, I think they need time to workout the kinks. Spent $143 for a pizza, 3 sandwiches, a burger, a salad and 4 beers. read more

Amazing as always!! DO make a reservation a few days in advance - we waited until Friday morning to make a Saturday dinner reservation, and the only options were 5:30 or 8:30 which worked for us. When we got there, the hostesses were telling walk-ins that the wait would be 2 hours - the food is just that great! We ordered the buffalo chicken dip, short rib fettuccine, and a build your own burger. Everything was delicious but the highlight was definitely the buffalo chicken dip! The house made chips that came with it were SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. I would solely go back to Blackie's just for this dip. One thing I saw from previous reviews was the high price points. It is true - the prices here are a little higher than what you'd find at a standard pub. However, I think the use of high quality and farm fresh ingredients makes up for it! My burger was made with grass-fed beef and was on a toasted, buttery bun. Yum! They also have plenty of GF, Vegan, Keto, and Paleo options. The quality of the food here is just something you can't find at your basic bar or pub. The only negative of our experience was the slow service, which is understandable considering how packed the place was on a Saturday night. Our server (Brooke?) was still super pleasant and friendly despite having to wait on a bunch of other tables. Overall, we had a great experience and will be back. read more

I had a first date last night at Blackie's. We met up for drinks in the bar area. Luckily enough we were able to score a high top table close enough to hear resident acoustic entertainer, Scott Baer! A little disappointed he wasn't in his Hawaiian shirt as it appeared on the website but he played some good tunes well and wasn't too loud so we easily were able to converse. As I am not a beer connoisseur, I asked for a fruity drink without peach in it and they delivered a nice pineapple and vodka drink. It wasn't too strong, but just right! Even adorned the glass with a nice piece of pineapple! My date had beer and had no complaints! Our waitress was nice and stopped by a few times to check on us. A little oddity... rocks in the bathroom sink! Why? I would like to go back and try their food sometime! read more

There is probably not enough space to discuss all of the kind and amazing thoughts I have about Jeanine and Angie - and Blackie's restaurant as a whole! These two strong, selfless, gracious women have taken all they've accomplished and worked so hard for and given back so much to the community, particularly a charity that is near and dear to my heart, The Izzy Foundation. Both J & A strive to create an existence where their influence and success can be used to not only make their customers happy, but also to help others in their time of need. As I said, I could go on and on... BUT, I wanted to share an unbelievable private dining experience that I was able to participate in at Blackie's the other night. With their new space, J & A created a private area where Angie has her very own kitchen and chef's table. This perfectly cozy and quaint space feels like you're in J & A's home as their guests - it's unreal! This private dinner was for my close friend's 40th birthday, and these ladies made a personalized menu just for the birthday girl and her 19 other guests. Chef Angie and her adorable but super professional assistant whipped up a five course small-bites menu, along with a perfect little sweet treat at the end for us. The entire culinary tour was nothing short of epically amazing! Some of the menu items included a house-made lemon basil ricotta crostini with prosciutto, artichoke and Calabrian Chile honey, and a Korean BBQ braised short rib sandwich (grilled cheese style) with caramelized onion, cheddar and salsa verde. Each bite left us drooling for more!! The entire evening was made absolutely perfect because of J & A's attention to detail. Between the included wine pairings, homely atmosphere, and the Janet Jackson Essentials playlist (birthday girl's choice!) in the background, we could not have asked for a more special and personal experience at Blackie's. Not only would I highly recommend just stopping in for a quick slice of their ridiculously delicious pizza and a glass of wine, but if you are ever looking for an evening of private dining with a few of your closest friends with some of the tastiest food in Rhode Island, look no further! Blackie's is where it's at!! read more

It is a very popular place to eat, so parking can sometimes be a challenge. The food is delicious and the portions are plentiful. Our server for the night, Katarina, was exceptional. The host staff were sometimes a bit too attentive (one gal asked me three times if she could take my plate - while I was still eating) but they do have a lot of fans. Note that if you are making a reservation for 8 or more, you will be required to give them a credit card. If you pull a no show/no call, you will be billed $25 per person (!), so don't be rude. It is costly. ;-) I love that two women run the joint (and that is why my dining group - Dames Who Dine PVD - picked it for our dinner outing this month). I recommend you check it out. I will be back because I MUST try one of their burgers!!! read more

Finally I have found a burger that completely satisfies on all accounts...and it comes from a place that opens its doors at a normal time (I'm looking at you, Chomp in Warren). This means I can have a burger whenever the craving strikes and not have to wait in a line out the door. This place seems like it's usually busy but the service is friendly and as prompt as it can be. Food may take a bit to come out regardless of the amount of people inside simply because it's all made-to-order. Cannot complain about freshness. So, have a beer and an appetizer and enjoy. Okay, so in my opinion, a burger must be: juicy, large, and placed on a hefty bun that won't wilt when held. And, fries must be: slightly crispy, hand-cut, hot, and plentiful. Blackie's hit all of those criteria. Great bonus: they have a huge selection of beer and their menu is way more extensive than just burgers. Everything sounded delicious. Cons: the Build-Your-Own-Burger can get a bit pricey. You start with a beef patty ($10) or a grass-fed beef patty ($13) and everything else is extra...cheese is $1, basic toppings are 50 cents and up, bacon is $1.50, there's a $3 up-charge if you want fries on the side instead of chips...really people? If I'm eating a burger you damn well know I'm getting fries and not chips. My suggestion: start with the $10 patty unless you want to end up spending $20 on a burger. I am so glad I found my go-to burger in Rhode Island because it certainly hasn't been easy. It's not cheap, but it's kind of sort of really worth it, hehe. read more

New review for the new location. The decor is gorgeous, as it was in the previous location. Kind of dark and comfy in the room we sat in (to the left of the front desk). The chandelier in the front foyer is great and is made from cutlery. We could only get an early reservation and then were seated around lots of small children which sort of bummed me out but it was not overly loud at all. My friend and I are both on very healthy eating plans at the moment. The menu has a section at the back where you can pick a protein and then sides from two lists. It seemed like anyone doing low carb, general healthy, Keto, Paleo, etc. could all find something. We both ordered the pork shoulder carnitas. I got bok choy and riced veggies. The bok choy was too al dente for me. The rice was amazing. Very flavorful. I ended up mixing the meat and rice together. It was delicious. Blackie's has been a go-to for years and will remain so. They always have such interesting and flavorful options. So in a nutshell, new location but still a beautiful restaurant and still amazing food. read more

Ruebens are in my top 3 favorite sandwiches of all time. HIGHLY underrated and no one elevates a simple sando like the crew at Blackie's. I've been here a few times and this was one of my favorites. They just opened at their new location, take reservations, and have a rotating menu that is always incredible. I'm not kidding-- everything is extremely good, the chef takes her time crafting each menu and choosing flavors. There's something for everyone and they work hard to include options for diet restricted customers (food allergy/ paleo/ veg. etc.). You won't be disappointed, but you will most likely have to wait a while if you don't book ahead. Skip the line and call beforehand! read more

This is the second time I've had food from Blackie's and both experiences were about the same. Eating here was a lovely experience which great ambiance and excellent cutlery, plates and glasses that fit the decor. And the server was very kind. Great place to eat if you're gluten free, paleo, or have other dietary issues. Our go-to restaurant.

After closing in 2019 for a complete make over, the overall experience has changed much. The food is delicious, except when it comes to proportions, they're a bit much. 1st time there since 2018. Food was good. Service not so much. Appetizer came 30mins late because waitress forgot to put order. No big deal. But it came out same time as the entrees did. Not acceptable. Plus it was t taken off the bill and there was no comp for the mistake besides an apology. Appetizer plates were left on the table, not cleared away. Waitress was gone for full 10-15mins while waiting to check out. Seating was in a bad spot. Crammed in the middle of the isle. Could've been a lot better. Will give one more chance to make it right. read more

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The food was really good. We had high hopes and they met or exceeded expectations. But we arrived early and while we waited for a table the signs of leave now before it's too late were there. The place was overwhelmed. A patron walked out declaring he'd been waiting 40 minutes at his table after ordering with no food. Lots of takeout, and perhaps they should reconsider. We, too, waited 45 minutes from ordering to appetizers. Entrees also pretty slow to arrive. I don't think the kitchen could keep up. Really too bad, as the food was good. read more

I'm bumping up my assessment towards this establishment. Warm greetings throughout. Bellied up at the bar for a full fleged dinner and cocktail. The dinner menu not pedestrian at all. Also impressed with the descriptions and wording helping you decide what appetizers and entrees you want to order. Solidly impressed with the not run of the mill preparations and sauces to compliment each dish. From a Asian type salad for 3 to share, parleyed to a chicken and bok choy dish to Ahi Tuna. The flatware and silverware which I look for is a added plus. Don't believe me but high-quality silver and dishes enhance the meal. Laurie our bartender/ server was superb personality and funny is a plus in my book. I'll be back, don't wait up it won't be till next year. Same time same bat channel. read more
