First time patron. As a gluten free eater it's hard to find a pizza with a crust that isn't a cracker and Blackbird delivers! Chewy and crispy. Will be back again. Menu is super interesting. Nice people. Jody and Caroline are fab.

Sigh, I wish I could rate this neighborhood spot better because it is such a great location and the food is decent. However, I have been here two times for brunch (once in 2022 and just this month) and both experiences were very disappointing from start to finish. In this most recent experience, we were a group of about six and it was 15 minutes before we were seated, another 15 before drink and food orders were taken, and then we waited. And waited. We were offered mimosas and shots while we waited, but honestly, we were just hungry and wanted food. Maybe some bread or something while we waited? We finally received our food almost 2 hours after we arrived. Some orders were incorrect and much of the food was cold. For the food that was warm, it was actually quite good (one additional star for the food!). The owners apologized several times and said it was never like that, but my previous visit two ears prior was almost identical. Also didn't love being called "kids" as a group of women. So, not sure what is going on staffing wise, but clearly something needs to be resolved front of house because brunch should not last three hours (unless you want it to!).

Blackbird Public House has taken an absolute nose dive in the past few months. What started as a great neighborhood spot has fallen into the trap of significantly raising prices while the quality and portion of food significantly declines. It started with the loss of their signature steak salad, which was exceptional. The server (who was new) explained that the chef (who was new) was looking to reduce costs and the steak salad was too expensive to produce. I could add steak to an existing salad for $8, though (at last visit it was now an absolutely ridiculous $12 to add). I've experimented with adding different proteins to salads at exorbitant costs and just can't make any combination worth the price. The salads themselves are in the $15+ range and probably cost $3 to make. They will serve salads with 1/3 of the ingredients advertised and still charge full price. I wasn't informed there would be adjustments, it just came out with almost nothing on it. Please see the photo of the salmon salad, which was mixed greens, 1/3 of an apple, a two strawberries, and a sprinkling of cheese plus $7 for salmon, making this a mid $20 salad. The cost value just isn't there. If I hadn't added salmon, it would have been nowhere near a full meal and I honestly can't believe they had the gall to serve it. Adding protein, especially at an upcharge, should not change the quality of the salad itself. Next time I visited I tried their salmon because I couldn't stomach paying over $20 for eight bites of lettuce again, and on the salmon salad I found the salmon was cooked well. I also landed on the salmon after switching from my original order of a burger once they informed me they were out of ketchup (?!?!), brussel sprouts, and soup ("we haven't had soup for weeks..."). So salmon it was, except they actually originally told me they were out of salmon but once she went to the kitchen to check they ended up still having some. I can't remember how much this was but somewhere near $20. It was swimming in butter, had two cherry tomatoes haphazardly thrown in, was incredibly dry and overcooked (ordered medium rare), and the zoodles were soggy after sitting in their butter bath. Another disappointment. Lastly, every single time I come here (monthly) there are different servers with the exception of one bartender. Everyone is always new and doesn't know what's going on, and the staff turnover indicates a bigger issue. Even with the service industry the way it is, it's abnormal. We came for a monthly meeting on a Tuesday, and despite bringing in 15-20 people worth of business on what is historically a restaurant's slowest night, they always acted inconvenienced that we were there (minus the long-term bartender, who was an absolute delight). I am so glad that we have moved our meeting elsewhere, as none of us could really support spending more and more money each month when they raised their prices for declining food and service. I can't imagine they will last much longer under the current philosophy.

Salmon benedict with potatoes. Great food, lousy service.

Fantastic salmon benedict along with wonderfully seasoned potatoes adorned my side of the table last Saturday as the snow was coming down. While it was cold and snowy outside, why on earth would you seat us immediately without wind shot of the entrance each time the door opened?! The entire restaurant was empty. The emo hostess decided it would be a good idea to even wait after 10am to open the doors. No eye contact, no conversation, no service. Just seated us and walked back to the other side of the bar and played on your phone. Service was slightly better but why did you let our breakfast sit in the pickup window for almost 10 minutes while you kept walking past it even after making eye contact with us? Many missed opportunities that morning really. If you're going north on Downing it is pretty easy to miss the turn in. From the experience we had I'm probably doing you a favor with my experience too. Hey, at least enjoy the single pic I took and find another restaurant that serves a similar dish.

Love the idea and location of this place (and they have a parking lot!!) but the experience has been lackluster both times I've been. The first time was for pizza and the food was great with decent service but music was too loud. The second time was for brunch after winning a contest on instagram. We got there after they opened, waited at the door and the woman who later was bartending, seemed pissed off people decided to come in that day. Our server wasn't too great either, he was going through the motions and we had to ask for refills, condiments, the check, etc. We saw our food ready in the window and he continued to dive up butter into ramekins while we just sat waiting and watching to see how long it would take. Sadly enough, the food wasn't worth the wait. The avocado Benedict seemed like it was just slopped together, potatoes were unseasoned and it was just about one of the saddest brunches I've ever had (spoiler, I've had a lot of brunches). The manager who helped comp our meal due to the instagram contest was super personable and helpful so that was the one plus of our brunch. As fun as this place seems, that will be the last time I'll be visiting Blackbird.

So I admit it....I am a happy hour slut...you got great drinks and bites I'm there! Blackbird Public House has an awesome Happy hour with a great menu and great prices. Throw in a parking lot on prem and I'm in love. Great ambiance with plenty of space to dine, drink or catch a game on the screen. Great Service...super quick, got everyone's orders right, and was always back to check on us. Food and cocktails were very good. Loved the HH Marg, their pizzas, and mussels. Def come and check them out

Considering the only other US location is in California, I was surprised and knew this would be my opportunity to try it! The aesthetic is modern & elevated with Japanese wooden features. I got 3 classic dishes which was just the right amount of food. I honestly recommend coming with a group to try more items since you know everything will be delicious. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. It's a good balance of sweetness, savoriness, umami that is bound to be good. All in all, so grateful I got to try what many call an institution and will certainly try more of chef Nobu's restaurants.

Some of courses were delicious and some were mediocre. We spent almost $700 for a party of four. The situation that needs the most improvement was the pace of the meal. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. The best part of this meal was by far, the young couple that accompanied us. Friendly advice: if you want to impress a client with something the feels exclusive... this may be the place. If you are looking for amazing food, being pampered and feeling your money was "well spent", try another place. I don't plan to visit this restaurant soon.
