I have come a few times to Black Walnut Cafe. Despite the varied menu, I always have a hard time eating here. It is a lovely place to meet someone casually because there is ample seating that is pretty relaxed. The miss comes in the food. 1. Potato bacon soup -- So rich with heavy cream that it will have you regretting the second you put that spoon in your mouth. It's not chowdery either... 2. "Side" of broccoli -- Unimpressively five small florets. The second miss: service. Management came to ask how my friend and I enjoyed our meal. He said, "How else do we get better [if we don't get feedback]?" I told him that my meal was too rich and the broccoli was hardly a side. Additionally, my friend had asked for her salad with avocado. We always ask the staff to keep our food as separate as possible from peanuts and treenuts in the kitchen and many restaurants reassure us that this is entirely possible. It's hard to beat this place for a great selection of foods, with a rotating menu, good service, and friendly people. And it's in the heart of Rice Village with easy access to the parking garage or use the parking lot if you can find a space.
