The price is a bit high for what one might think a burger should cost, but for me the first bite of a Black Sheep burger is a taste of burger perfection, so from time to time I like to treat myself to a burger and fries at Black Sheep Burgers in Springfield's Chesterfield Village. Went there a few days ago with family. It wasn't crowded because it was later in the evening and because of the covid stuff. It was cool that they allowed us to bring our puppy to the back patio so she didn't have to wait in the car. The food was excellent. My husband and I recently moved into the area from out of state and hadn't gone grocery shopping yet. This place was highly recommended to us by the people whose house we bought. I am so glad we came here. I was really impressed with how good the food was. Typically, when I hear a place serves burgers and shakes I think more of a diner-type setting. That is not what this place is. It's more high-end and we loved that. We ordered the "you are smokin'" fries with pulled pork and chipotle bbq - AMAZING! Spicy, but not too spicy. I ordered the "ugly cheeseburger" and my husband ordered the "don't go bacon my heart" - we both really enjoyed them. We also ordered "truffle n' Parmesan" fries to share - these were my favorite of the evening. We ended up taking some home because the portions were so big. These were SO GOOD the next day. We haven't been to this location, but even though it was packed there was still plenty of parking. We sat at the bar instead of waiting for a seat. The bar staff was extremely friendly and on point with service. We ordered the vegetarian burger and smoke fries. Even though they were slammed our burgers came out very quickly "the kitchen manager was holding it down!" The burgers was an in-house made black bean patty with blue cheese, avocado, and fake bacon. I never tasted the bacon at all, and the texture of the burger could have been a bit crispier. With the avocado it just felt too mushy in the mouth. While it tasted good; it's definitely not the first vegetarian burger you'd want to try if you just switched. I'll definitely be back again, but next time I'm going to ask for the burger well done. Regardless the service, price, and timely manner you get your food is worth the 4 stars. read more

Stopped here for a pre-concert nosh at Outland Ballroom. I had previously been to their other location and had a burger and fries. This time I had the "let me sleep on it" and it was really good. The chicken was juicy and tender. The salad was crispy and fresh. The bacon was really tasty. The dressing was on the side so it wasn't over dressed. I sat at the bar and I could see the staff having a good time while they were working. I really enjoyed the downtown location as it's smaller than the sunshine location. read more

Second Black Sheep eatery we have visited and as with the other location, the burgers are the best.

I was in Springfield for a visit and a group of us went to Black Sheep. They seated us in the large, private room by the host stand which was a great space for our group. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. As the burgers are giant here, my friend and I decided to split the Cowboy Carl burger. We got the single patty version which comes with brisket, fried onions, barbecue sauce, pickles, and bacon, and cheese. We also got the salt and vinegar fries. This meal was delicious. The seasoning on the fries wasn't too overwhelming and the burger was juicy and greasy. Perfect. They brought out a tray of dipping sauces: chipotle ketchup, regular, house-made ranch, truffle mayo, and thousand island. The truffle mayo was a favorite! I also got the Elvis shake which was frozen custard, chocolate sauce, peanut butter, bananas, and rum. So. Good. This place probably isn't the best for kids. It's trendy and modern inside and looks really nice, but there's not a lot of space for kiddos. Also, the prices might make it a little hard if you have multiple kids with you. First of all, it should be pointed out that I seldom, if ever, award a 5 star rating. Granted, a sandwich restaurant is not as complex as a high end steak or seafood restaurant. However, for what it is, the Black Sheep restaurant shines in every aspect used to evaluate a restaurant. My wife and I were visiting with good friends who live in Missouri and they were looking forward to taking us to the Black Sheep. Atmosphere - we were greeted warmly and found the restaurant to be clea, bright and fun. Service - as good as it gets. Friendly, prompt, attentive and courteous. Menu and Food Quality - oK, I am a huge fan of milkshakes and it takes a lot to impress me in this regard. The Elvis milkshake was awesome. My wife and I decided to order the Waffle Mac n Cheese as an appetizer and it too was delicious. We then split the Springfilly and fries (it was lunch time and the milkshake and appetizer was filling). The sandwich was large and great. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this restaurant. We were visiting friends and they suggested we stop. First, the decor is really cute. Lots of raw materials, like tree trunk pieces for tables. Our server was quick to take our drink order of the Elvis Milkshake. All 4 of us got it and it was fantastic. I didn't want to find the bottom of my glass. My husband and I split the Springfilly. It is a burger, topped with onions and peppers and filet mignon and then cheese sauce. It was to die for. The filet was so tender and the burger cooked perfectly. They even cut it in half for us and served it on separate plates. We also shared the waffle Mac 'n cheese. Never heard of it, and found it interesting, The Mac 'n cheese was cooked in a waffle maker and served with a creamy cheese sauce. It was really good at first, but when it got cold, it got gummy. There were water glasses on the table along with a carafe of water for us. Our friends got the Bleus Bros burger and loved their choice as well. A double burger with blue cheese, avocado, candied bacon, pickle, lettuce and truffle mayo. They also got the sea salt and pepper fries, which were excellent. They offer you different sauces and they chose chipotle ketchup and truffle mayo. The chipotle ketchup was my favorite! If I were ever going to open a restaurant, this is the one I would want to own. The food was pretty good even though it took a long time to get it! Waiter forgot the shake and the appetizer came out with the meal. Ask for your burger without any sauce if you are special ordering. The fries taste smoky and the onion rings are similar in flavor to a blooming onion from outback. This should probably be a 2 star rating for my visit today...but past experiences bump it up to 3. The food is good as always. What disappointed me today was how the kitchen handled a mistake made by our server. Our server didn't put the fourth burger in and when he corrected his mistake, the kitchen made AT LEAST 4 tables worth of food before finally making one simple burger. EVERYONE at the table was finished because let's face it, we had our food for at least 30 minutes before our final person was served. Which she needed to go so she took two bites and asked for a to go box. I understand mistakes happen, but to punish a table and essentially one person...not acceptable. If that's the kitchen policy, I believe it needs to be changed. Our server couldn't apologize enough and I appreciate his sincerity and honesty about the mistake. read more

I've dined at both locations, so I'll try to speak to both in generalities unless otherwise specified. I moved from Chicago to Dallas and so routinely drive back and forth. I keep saying that one of these days I'll try a different restaurant, but so far I can't bring myself to do it. THIS. FOOD. IS. AMAZING. Think of the most perfect French fry in the universe. Then think of how that fry would taste topped with perfect sauces, or perfectly pulled pork, or warm chili. The burgers are outstanding, but I tend to be overwhelmed by the fries because of their super crispy outside and fluffy inside. I've heard people describe fries that way and called bullshit- but these deliver on every level, I do not need to exaggerate. Today we went straight to the Chesterfield location. My puppy and I were hungry after a long drive and this location has a dog-friendly patio. Walnut is people-friendly, don't get me wrong. But they lack patio space. Joseeduardo was our server and he MUST have spread the word that the world's cutest puppy was on the patio. My girl had all the attention she could have dreamed of from the team and I got service that was at like 110%. Chick-Fil-A DREAMS they could get Black Sheep's leftover servers. I legit cannot say a single negative thing about their food or their staff. Stop being in Missouri and start being everywhere that I am please. read more
