I've never had a coffee with collagen until my visit today to Black Sheep. Honestly couldn't taste it at all, which I think is a good thing because who wants funky tasting coffee when all you want is a hoped for glow-up? Coffee tasted very nice, but I wish I'd had a plain coffee option as far as beans go. My three choices were a citric/acid, a double the caffeine hazelnut or decaf. I would have appreciated a simple smooth robust bean option. All that aside, the coffee was well prepared, staff were great and I didn't end up with a massive caffeine high - despite ordering the double the caffeine bean. You order from a giant touchscreen rather than from a barista, which felt like a lot of work. A pleasant surprise of a place! Bf brought me here for a dessert drink on a date night after having dinner nearby. Pleasantly warm, cute Christmas decor, and ordering kiosks were a big plus. It was quiet and playing nice Christmas music. Bf got a mint mocha and I got a hot chocolate with added peppermint. I really liked my hot chocolate--the same price as my Starbucks order but way higher quality. Bf commented that both drinks were on the sweet side for him but I still thought his was bitter, as someone who doesn't like coffee. Overall, a really cute place! I asked if they were sure it was cold brew and the woman wasn't the nicest about that's how they make it. I really think she must have it backwards how much coffee vs milk. Recently I've had this hankering to try robusta bean coffee. I found out Black Sheep serves & sells robusta bean based coffee. So, with my target clear, I set out, braving Preston Road during the wee hours of a dreary, rainy North Texas morning. Since it was early, when I got there I had the run of the place to meself. Two staff members wider awake than I, greeted me and politely answered my questions. They have a pretty good menu with a variety of options. They have Robusta and the standard issue Arabica beans. It turned out that unfortunately, they did not serve Robusta drip or pour over so I ended up getting an iced choco-coco type latte that was kinda meh and a large Americano to split with some coffee connoisseurs at my place of employment. The Americano was boss. Serious flavor and not watered down at all. Kudos. I will definitely be coming back to get more of that Robusta Americano stuff. I hope their management considers adding a pour-over as well. Not having it is a huge miss imo. That and add those freakin little plastic hole plugs to keep drinks warm. They don't have any..... Last note, the inside vibe is pretty cool. Somewhat warehouse grunge, lots of seating along with self-order stations. Solid location to hang if that's your thing. read more

Want to get away from the mainstream coffee shops? Black sheep coffee is a great choice. I feel a different vibe from typical coffee shops as soon as I walk in. The decor is arty and creative as you can tell from the mural design. I ordered a matcha and turmeric latte since I love both of these flavors, but had never tried this combo. It turned out great! It was smooth and well-balanced. The turmaric didn't overpower the matcha, or vice versa. This place also offers many other matcha lattes, as well as matcha lemonades. I also got my favorite pastry -- scone, which got cream cheese inside. It's not that often I have cream cheese as a filling. The pastry paired well with my beverage. Most seating is along the windows, giving you a broad view of the busy Preston Road. If the Texas heat cooperates:) you can take a seat on the patio outside. Overall, it was a delightful first visit. Solid place to work for an hour or two. I came by to take a meeting after an appointment in the area, and sat on the patio. The order yourself system is nice. I got an espresso shot and a smoothie. Both were good, not great. The smoothie was more icy than blended and the espresso had somewhat of a funky aftertaste. I don't normally write bad reviews on here, but today really changed that as I do not want someone else spending their hard earned money at a pathetic excuse of an establishment such as this. I came in to grab a latte and some food before I start studying. keep in mind there was already a mom and her daughter sitting there next to me. After being there for about two hours or so this white grandmother and her grandkids come in and order and sit down within the same vicinity. After they have been there for about 30 minutes, one of the barista comes up to them with a plate of pastries and explains that they made extra and that they want to give that family the rest if they will give them a five star review on Google reviews. Not only is bribing somebody to give you a five star review, absurd, but giving it to patrons who just came in when they have been other patrons who have been there for longer is absolutely crazy. Mind you, the woman and her daughter and I are all people of color, but the grandmother who came in with her grandchildren, are all Caucasian. This is absolutely absurd and sad that racial discrimination is still very obvious in this day and age. You would think that it can't get worse after this right? Well, I hate to break it to you, but it does. I should have left then in there, but instead, I decided to stay and continue studying since I had a quiz the next day. After about two hours of sun starts to go down and I am just wrapping up studying when I noticed something in the corner fluttering next to me. At first, I thought nothing of I thought I was seeing things due to my lack of sleep however it happened a second time, and I looked closely on the ground. Screwing around quickly was a approximately 5 inch black cockroach. This was absolute last straw for me and I packed my stuff up quicker than a jackrabbit run in a marathon. Not only is this establishment, rude and racist, but it is also unhygienic and disgusting. I will absolutely not be coming here again and I suggest that nobody else does either. Wanted to love it. Saw a tiktok and it looked so fun, but honestly everything was subpar to Starbucks. Place is cute, service was fine, but... Sandwich, croissant, latte--- all better at Starbucks. Which is unfortunate. Because Starbucks isn't even great. The waffle, which would have been delicious if crispy, was soggy and sad. Even the lattes were just ok. Black sheep came through for breakfast and tea while I was staying at a hotel nearby with less-than-great breakfast options. It's got a garage-type decor, with a variety of seating options to fit your mood. The only suggestion I would make is to have some light-diffusing shades for the early morning. When I was there, the sun was blasting in and made a portion of the seating areas hard to use. They have a counter to order at or kiosks - I chose the kiosk to make it easier to get a receipt emailed. The breakfast sausage, egg & cheese muffin was delicious, although it perhaps felt a tad greasy. I liked the experience enough to go back again the next day rather than look to try out a second spot. I've had their matcha a few times here and overall would have to say it's pretty good. It's sometimes hit or miss though depending on which barista makes it. I've had their strawberry/blueberry/peach/regular matcha (with soy milk) and they all taste pretty good. The flavored matchas tend to run sweeter and it does have quite of a syrup taste to it. I had a regular matcha latte with soy and was impressed that it tasted pretty true to matcha, slightly watery but I think the ice just melted a little too fast for me to drink. read more

Picked up this joint for coffee after a hot long walk at Arbor Hills, and I was pleasantly surprised with the food offerings here. Caprese sandwich, was fresh, grilled with stringy mozzarella cheese, (yep, grilled. I always wanted to do that to cold caprese sandwich. Cappuccino was super tasty with extra shot of espresso. The beans are double caffeinated I was told, and I could feel it after. The star however was Norwegian waffle with strawberry chocolate Nutella. I could definitely taste the crunch from Pearl sugars, and the overall feel was not doughy or eggy at all. Easily the best waffle I ever had. There were screens to place the order, but we chose to order at the counter and the associate was on point with her suggestions. Cappuccino was a little light at start, but extra espresso shot immediately showed the impact of double caffeinated beans. One more in my list to visit again. read more

I'll say right away that I'm not the typical Black Sheep customer. I know this, because I had a lengthy chat with Sam, who's the US operations project manager for Black Sheep, getting the cafes established here in the States (they're a UK based operation). I had ordered a straight espresso, and he shared that they sell only a handful of such drinks per week, as most people get fancier beverages. Let's talk about espresso for a minute. These cafes use super automatic machines from a company called Enersys. Some readers may have heard of Jura, which makes super automatics for home and light commercial use. These machines are in a whole different category, and are engineered to truly bring trained barista quality drinks with minimal upskilling and time needed of the employee. This was proven in my cups, which were both very nice. I first tried the Blue Volcano, which is their lighter option, more fruit forward. It was smooth, with no bitterness, but at more of a medium roast, the fruity flavors were a little modest. Still a very nice cup. Since Sam had talked it up so much, I then had to try their Robusta espresso, which the company is very proud of, and for good reason. It featured a wonderful crema, and again, not even a hint of bitterness. Notes of dark chocolate and nuts were at the fore, but I feel like there was a tiny taste of a darker berry flavor in the background. It was my first Robusta, and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I bought some Blue Volcano to take home, and in my typical use case (V60 pourover), it's a little darker than I prefer. I'll try pulling some espresso later today to see what I get from it. The shop itself is modestly sized but well laid out, with plenty of surfaces to drink, eat, and do some work or surfing. The menu is vast in terms of drinks and there's food as well, so something for everyone. Definitely give them a try! read more

I hadn't gone in a few months but went to get some a few weeks ago &, hear me out, it tasted like "burnt" & "Cheerios", respectively Thought maybe it was a weird batch of espresso. The steaming for the flat white wasn't great (see picture) and the waffle was thin and barely had any matcha flavor. For the price, I would have expected better.
