I don't get the negative reviews for Black Seed. It is a solid bagel spot serving very good bagel sandwiches. I would opt for an egg sandwich here since they use vital farms eggs (the best)! The Boca toasted on everything is my go to order - egg, cheddar, tomato, and avocado. Seriously can't go wrong. My friend got the ham egg and cheese on sesame and loved it. The scallion cream cheese is good but I've had better. I love that they have a tofu cream cheese options for all the vegans! The service is friendly and the line goes fast. Seriously nothing to complain about!

Great place to get some great bagels in Brooklyn. Many choices for all. The breakfast bagels are so good. I tried the Bacon egg and cheese as well as the Boca with avocado egg and tomato. Both were large and very filling. Many other options for all at reasonable prices. I had to get a bag of fresh bagels to bring home. You can order ahead for easy pickup or order right there. Come check them out.

The bagel was good, but not the best. Good place for a quick bite and coffee. Service was quick. Not much room to sit inside, only a few seats.

Classic: BEC (Bacon, Egg & Cheese) on an Everything Bagel

Fresh, light, delish, what a good, quick breakfast should be. The lightly smoked Turkey, Egg & Cheese on an Oat Bagel, divine. The Turkey had a kiss of smoke, not overpowering and fresh. It DIDN'T taste "processed". Pleasantly surprised. The classic BEC (Bacon, Egg & Cheese) on an Everything Bagel, was every bit scrumptious. The bacon tasted fresh & lightly cured, again, NOT processed. Only issue of concern was a mild, white Cheddar used versus the Sharp flavor of a yellow, more robust one. Both sandwiches needed an little oomph from the cheese and the Sharp/Extra Sharp would've been perfect. At a minimum, should've been offered. Overall, great way to start the day.

Cooked just right! Bagels arrived just how we like it. Toasted. Cheesy melted. Honestly you can't go wrong. Def worth the try. Just wish I had some potatoes as option to go along with it!

I was visiting NY from out of town so I'm not a bagel expert, but I sure love carbs!! And these bagels hit the spot. I got the sausage egg sandwich on an everything bagel and my bf got a BEC (bacon egg cheese) on a cinnamon raisin bagel. The bagels had just enough "bite" to them, chewiness, and flavor. The fried eggs were cooked fresh. Service was friendly and relatively fast--we went on a Friday early afternoon. A good spot for a quick bite!

The service at the ordering counter was friendly unfortunately, our bagel sandwich experience was not. 7 other people with numbers after us got their order first. After we inquired about it, the guy said they were making it and then proceeded do begin fulfilling the order. We took the order to Brooklyn Bridge Park to enjoy our brunch with a nice view and realized that out of the 4 bagel sandwiches we ordered, two had issues. One has no bacon despite having ordered it with bacon and the other was inedible because of how burned it was. It was completely charred. The other two were fine but were not standouts. The ham was not spoiled but it wasn't great tasting ham. Overall, I am disappointed in our experience and my mom was left without a bagel to eat because hers was the charred bagel.

THE CLASSIC 2.0 (Pastrami Salmon, Scallion Cream Cheese, Pickled Green Tomato, Red Onion)

Potentially the most polarizing bagels in NYC. I have only heard either glowing or terrible reviews of Black Seed Bagels, so I was eager to try them myself. They do a unique rendition of Montreal style bagels, which are smaller and chewier than New York bagels, and baked in a wood-burning oven. This shop in Downtown Brooklyn is small, with limited bar seating. The staff were friendly and efficient, and packed my bagels to go with care. I thoroughly enjoyed the "Classic 2.0" which features deeply savory pastrami lox, juicy heirloom tomatoes, red onion, and plenty of scallion cream cheese. The Everything bagel was just okay. I did not mind the density, but it was on the dry side and lacking flavor. The AB&J (house made almond butter and raspberry preserves), had the potential to be great. But alas, the Plain bagel I ordered it on was grocery store quality, and tasted stale. I would not come back here.

I recently got in an argument with some of my friends about breakfast sandwiches. There were very strong opinions about what sort of meat is the best, what condiments should be used, what bread it should be on...all the things. We discussed scrapple, for Pete's sake. During this heated discussion, one of my friends said, in a hilariously inappropriate way that I choose not to repeat here, that the BEC (bacon egg and cheese) from Black Seed is excellent. I live right down the street from this Black Seed location, so I decided to investigate. For science. I can report that the BEC at Black Seed is in fact excellent. It definitely hits the spot, especially when I am horrifically hungover, which happens from time to time. Overall, I like Black Seed bagels. They are good bagels. I have to admit though, I don't see myself coming in on a regular basis, despite living down the street. Because down the street is in Brooklyn. There are lots of good bagels, and lots of good BECs. And I'm finding it hard to overlook the fact that this BEC is $12 (with tax and tip), and just about everywhere else is around half that. So, good bagels and sandwiches, but the value proposition is a little off.

Love the bagels + they give you a good amount of cream cheese. The Bushwick Black Tea is excellent. Friendly and fast service. Clean atmosphere and short wait - seating is available for waiting.

For $18, you can get a salmon bagel where the salmon tastes absolutely and genuinely rotten.

We wanted to try something different after having explored so many of the typical places in Manhattan and Shelsky's came highly recommended While I was expecting a long wait on a Saturday mid-morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the establishment with only a few in line before us. Now, I was desperately seeking a very simple belly lox with schmear, but much to my dismay, they didn't have any more belly lox. I was heartbroken and had to figure out a plan B While I pondered, the family quickly ordered a Peter Shelsky, a Great Gatsby, and a Fancy Pants. I crumbled in my panic and jumped in with another Peter Shelsky. We also tried a small amount of whitefish salad and a beet/thyme salad The service was quick and we were able to grab two of the three small tables at the front to enjoy our fare. Soon we were digging in and from the immediate silence, I could tell everyone was enjoying their choices. The bagels were on the smaller side, denser with a firm crust. We did enjoy the bagels, but I could see how someone not familiar with this style may find them too "cardboard-y" I have to say, the pickled herring on the Peter Shelsky was fantastic, but was way too overpowering for the nova and sable. I actually regretted my choice and would order something more sunken next time. (Or get to the store earlier to beat the rush for the darn belly lox!) The beet salad was quite a nice balance to for the bagels adding a bit of brightness. The whitefish salad was solid - a hint of smoke and a creamy puree. Some who prefer a chunkier whitefish salad might find this less than satisfactory, but the flavors were great A cure store, friendly and patient staff, a great first exposure to Brooklyn for the boys. We'll be back (and we want belly lox!!)
