Everything with smoked salmon cream cheese
    Helene S.

Needed a bagel fix before we left Brooklyn, so our sweet daughter picked up bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. Everything bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese. So easy. So delicious. So Brooklyn. The bagels are huge. I ate half for a nice family breakfast and then packed the other half for lunch at LaGuardia. Perfect airport lunch.

So I'm not a bagel person but once my friends brought me bagels from here, I've become one. I've been in search for similar bagels near where we live. Some come close but when I visited Brooklyn recently, despite the snowstorm, I had to grab a dozen of these. The lox cream cheese is so good. My son LOVES it too and he doesn't even like cream cheese. Ordering it online was easy, no wait. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back!

Came in on a Friday morning (before 10am) and they were busy! The team got my order wrong (I had asked for an iced latte and got a hot one) but since there were so many people, I just accepted my fate. My bagel sandwich was sizeable -- definitely a filling breakfast that can hold you over well into lunch. The coffee was fine but nothing to write home about. The coffee I make at home honestly tastes better. Service was fast, workers were kind, and the food was good. All in all, I recommend.

Bergen Bagels is exactly the kind of neighborhood staple that reminds me why Brooklyn does bagels better than anywhere else. I kept it classic with a bagel and cream cheese, and it was everything I wanted: freshly baked with that perfect balance of chew and softness, and a generous spread of cream cheese that felt just right--simple, but done with care. The energy inside was lively without being overwhelming, and the staff kept things moving smoothly while still managing to be warm and welcoming. It's the kind of spot where you can grab something quick, but you also don't mind lingering for a few minutes just to soak up the atmosphere. All in all, a strong 4/5 experience. Great bagel, great service, and an ambiance that makes you want to come back--next time I'll definitely be branching out to try one of their specialty sandwiches.

I came here on a Sunday morning to get a bagel breakfast and to buy a dozen bagels to take home. The Lox Bagel I got for breakfast was so good--not just the freshly baked bagel, but also the smoked salmon, house-made cream cheese, tomato, and capers. I asked the staff to give me the freshest bagels to take home on my five-hour drive, and he assured me that everything was fresh and had just come out of the oven. He also gave me two extra bagels for free with my dozen order, so I got 14 bagels for the price of 12. How nice! This was my first time here, and I really enjoyed the experience. I love their bagels too--they are so much bigger than those I get in the DMV area.

Their menu selection is super large and diverse. This is a super small bagel shop where you can stand and eat if you would like or most likely take to go. The bagels are super fresh. We tried the cinnamon bagel with plain cream cheese. that was absolutely delicious. We also had the bacon egg and cheese on a wheat. Everything bagel that was pretty good, but it definitely needed a little bit of sauce. The service was super quick and the prices are reasonable.

These are good bagels. Ten years after my first time having them, they are still delicious (and a great way to occupy a three-year-old for an hour). Perhaps a little fatter and doughier than the ideal, but the same has been said about me so I'm not really going to complain. They've got all the schmears you need, the prices are decent, and the service is fast and efficient. This is just about everything you need in a bagel shop. Really, I think it's great. I have to say though...and I'm not trying to fight any of you Bergen Bagel fanatics... but I am going to put this out there: I don't think they are the best in the city, and I don't think they are worth going out of your way. But they are good bagels, and the neighborhood is lucky to have them. I can also appreciate that in addition to black and white cookies, they've also gone the extra mile and made just black cookies, and just white cookies. They are actually the only place I've seen this done. And again, this might be a complex and metaphorical statement about the rampant gentrification in the area. Is it? Do these cookie choices have racial, socioeconomic, and political implications, Bergen Bagels?! I don't support this cookie segregation! I support equal cookie rights for everyone in Brooklyn! But if it's just because some people prefer vanilla or chocolate, then that's cool.

Bergen Bagels is absolutely phenomenal! The Blueberry Bagel with cream cheese and an iced coffee is my go-to meal. The staff is friendly and the line moves relatively fast. They also do catering which I love; fruits, Bagels, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. There are a couple of stools outside for dining but I usually get my order to go.

Bergen Bagels nails the food--chewy, fresh, and flavorful, exactly what you want in a New York bagel. My everything with scallion cream cheese was delicious, but the service felt a bit aggressive, which knocked the experience down a notch. Still, a tasty and reliable stop when that bagel craving hits. Cozy Vibes!

Nova Scotia Salmon Sandwich on Plain Bagel

Walking around for our first day in Brooklyn, we wanted to start off with a quick bagel. Bergen Bagel was recommended to us by a friend. We got the nova scotia salmon on a plain and an everything bagel, a black and white cookie, and an iced coffee. The bagels were delicious! The salmon tasted very clean and buttery, and as you can see we got tons of cream cheese. The cream cheese was full of flavor and very rich. Amazing! The black and white cookie was also very good, a nice cake texture with the creamy chocolate and sugar icing. I'm usually not a big fan of cake-like textures but this was very good. The man who helped us was extremely kind and helpful in the ordering process! He really made it less intimidating than one might expect to order food in New York. The girl behind us also got ketchup only on a bagel which was...interesting lol

Bergen Bagels is an absolute 'Yum.' We were on our way to see people when I had an urge for a muffin and cup of coffee. BB was definitely the place to stop. Very big store and even bigger selection of bagels, muffins, various types of cream cheeses. They even had a whole salmon and other fishes. Great friendly staff walked me through the 15 different muffins on display. I settled on the Blueberry. It was huge, it was delicious, exactly how a muffin like this should be. That along with the delicious coffee made it a good stop for me. My wife order a toasted everything bagel and a small vegetable cream cheese. A very good bagel and I was impressed with the amount of vegetables in the cream cheese. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. I a looking forward to a return visit as I'm usually in the area every couple of weeks. Good spot, well stocked, clean and a great staff. KUDOs to the team at Bergen Bagels.

Bacon Egg and Cheese on an everything w. One problem The everything part was missing.

Let's start with service. Efficient, fairly courteous but could use a smile. Next, overall the place is small. I arrived on Sunday at 9 am, 5 customers waiting for there orders and the place felt a little cramped. Now on to the food. As I am always in search of "the one" that has the best bagels, sorry Bergen Bagel not making my top 5. I'll go with #8. Bagels were fresh and just the right amount of chewability. Unfortunately, my BEC on an everything came out BEC on a plain. The real everything bagel that I also got with cream cheese was a everything but light on the everything seasonings (see the photos) Bottom line: Worthy of a 1 time visit but I will not be going back. My quest for the #1 bagel in NY continues.

Bagel tasted like it had been frozen and was defrosted. Texture wasn't great either. Could get a better bagel from a coffee cart.

We wanted to try something different after having explored so many of the typical places in Manhattan and Shelsky's came highly recommended While I was expecting a long wait on a Saturday mid-morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the establishment with only a few in line before us. Now, I was desperately seeking a very simple belly lox with schmear, but much to my dismay, they didn't have any more belly lox. I was heartbroken and had to figure out a plan B While I pondered, the family quickly ordered a Peter Shelsky, a Great Gatsby, and a Fancy Pants. I crumbled in my panic and jumped in with another Peter Shelsky. We also tried a small amount of whitefish salad and a beet/thyme salad The service was quick and we were able to grab two of the three small tables at the front to enjoy our fare. Soon we were digging in and from the immediate silence, I could tell everyone was enjoying their choices. The bagels were on the smaller side, denser with a firm crust. We did enjoy the bagels, but I could see how someone not familiar with this style may find them too "cardboard-y" I have to say, the pickled herring on the Peter Shelsky was fantastic, but was way too overpowering for the nova and sable. I actually regretted my choice and would order something more sunken next time. (Or get to the store earlier to beat the rush for the darn belly lox!) The beet salad was quite a nice balance to for the bagels adding a bit of brightness. The whitefish salad was solid - a hint of smoke and a creamy puree. Some who prefer a chunkier whitefish salad might find this less than satisfactory, but the flavors were great A cure store, friendly and patient staff, a great first exposure to Brooklyn for the boys. We'll be back (and we want belly lox!!)
