Absolutely amazing service. I have a 7 year old mountain bike so I decided to get the Pro Overhaul Service. Which is almost like a complete rebuilt. Keith & Curtis kept me informed the whole time throughout the process. You even get pictures sent you to you. Upon pick up, they walked me through what they did to the bike and even gave me the bag of the parts they replaced while telling me why the parts were replaced. Needed service on my E bike to update wiring harness for a new battery and took it to Black Rock. They service and sell Aventon E bikes so they have experience dealing with the manufacturer. After a few delays due to wrong parts being sent from Aventon, they quickly completed the repair. I appreciate that they check the bike before returning and even tightened up some looser fittings. I received a used bike from a friend and we wanted to give it to one of our son's friends since he didn't have a bike. It needed some work (missing a crank arm and needed a tuneup). I brought the bike to Black Rock and Curtis was super helpful. Fantastic shop. After 5 years on my old mountain bike, I was shopping around for a new set up. While you'd have a hard time finding a bad bike shop in Reno, the folks at Black Rock Bicycles are the best of the best. I stopped in just before closing time on a weekday, but the shop owner was happy to answer all my questions about the Intense brand of bikes (a company which has taken a hybrid approach, selling both direct-to-consumer and through traditional retail channels). I ended up ordering an Intense bike. Black Rock Bicycles took great care of me. They received the bike, assembled it, and custom fit it to me including adjustment of the dropper post and front and rear shock rebound... even dialing in the exact PSI for my tubeless tires (which they converted from the factory clincher style - awesome). As other reviewers have said, everyone at this shop really knows their stuff, is passionate about riding, and getting their customers on the right bike for them. read more

Still the best mountain bike sales and service in the Reno Tahoe area. Black Rock carries some of the best brands of bikes and seems to be able to get other brands for special builds that they normally don't stock. I really appreciate their level of the service/maintenance of bikes. The only place I would trust spending several hundred bucks to get a full overhaul or anything else like hub rebuilds, fork service, etc. It is nice to take your bike to a place where the employees are 100% focused on mountain bikes other than their annual ramp up for burning man. A few good MTB shops still left but Black Rock is worth searching out for service or a new bike. read more

Brought my Santa Cruz Nomad into Black Rock Bicycles after 3 years of pedaling, shuttling, bike trips and steady thrashing but only doing the bare minimum in terms of maintenance. Randy and his family well, made me feel like apart of their family. During the craziness of Burning Man you would think that thousands of people descending on this establishment would stress them out, nope. They're located in a residential area, so if you feel like you're going the wrong way, you're not. Keep in mind that this is a neighborhood and try to refrain from angering the neighbors with bunch of hoopla. However, Randy being the smart dude that he is employees most of the neighborhood kids to smooth over any ruffled feathers of the parental units aka home owners. I rented a Thule rack that fits 4 bikes (3 comfortably). Randy not only helped me get the rack on our rented SUV, but gave me tips on how to prevent theft and our bikes from getting scattered across the road. For $75 I received the best product and customer service. What more could a Burner want? read more

The bike shops that I've been at in Reno overall rank as a friendly and competent bunch and BRB is no exception. I recently had two town bikes serviced here and they did a great job - their ideology seams to be "under promise and over deliver". The bikes were ready before they said they would be and they went over everything they adjusted, cleaned, and lubed. If you are wondering what their specialty is, I'd say MTB. They have a little of everything, but definitely mostly MTB. And yes, you guessed it, they cater to the Burning Man event. Location, well, they're all the way up in North Reno. I rented a bike from Black Rock Bicycles for Burning Man '09. This worked out very well for a few reasons. First, the staff adjust the bike to your needs before you embark. This saves you from having to bring extra tools. They also provide racks so you don't have to strap the bike to your roof. The staff are all veteran burners, so they know how to make a bike last on the playa. Despite a week of heavy usage around BRC, the cruiser still rode easily and quietly. The lubricants they use seem to resist the dust very well. By contrast, some department store bikes were falling apart by the burn. On the off chance that you run into problems, there is a dedicated Black Rock Bicycle repair team on the playa. Last, I was able to return the bike without cleaning it. I was on a strict time frame to return rental items and catch a plane. Having one less thing to clean made a big difference. The price was more than worth it to have a stylish, durable bike on the playa, from a local business, with no strings attached. I'll be renting from BRB again next year. read more

I really can't sing the praises of Randy and his whole crew at Black Rock Bikes highly enough or loudly enough. I don't live in Reno, but I come in a couple times a summer to see family and to ride N*, the N Trail, Tyrolean, etc. And every time I come to town because I am a large mammal who fancies himself a DH racer, I tend to bust some part that is usually harder to find than a virgin on prom night. Case in point today, Friday the 13th of July. Wouldn't you know my fantastic bike luck on this trip would give out today? I get to the mountain, pull out my bike, and low and behold the end cap on my front axle is MIA. For a thinner, more talented rider maybe this wouldn't cause pauses and internal contestations about riding, but when you're a big man with no real bike talent, you have to think ahead. I make a few calls, and no one has it. Then, out of the back of my addled and slightly hungover mind, I remember Randy and his crew. I get on the phone, and they have the exact part I need. So 30 minutes, $25, and 20 "why me lords" later, I have the part I need and I can keep the road show of stupidity and gravity defiance rolling for another day. Thanks a lot guys, you rock! read more
