I went here on 7-11-2020 with my daughter. I was looking for a Trek hard tail. I held the door open for an employee that was lugging a box out the front door. Not a thank you. All he said was, you have someone out here. Not more than 2 feet into the store, I was met by a female. She asked me if she could help me. I told her I was looking for a hard tail. She told me no, we don't have anything in your size. At that point, I didn't bother to ask anymore questions and left. A good sales associate would explain they don't have anything in stock but could possibly order one or at least explain that some might be coming in the near future. I took my older KHS hybrid commuter bike in for a tuneup. Always had problems with front chain rings .... Shifting through. Other people have tried to fix it, but it was always just the same. Velo Reno got my sweet old bike back to tiptop brand new riding condition ... And I rode it 7 miles home, over Windy Hill. A delight to ride again. They also put a new chain on, and replaced brake pads on the back wheel. All came to $79, and I was pleasantly surprised ... Thought it would be more. It's not often I go into a bicycle shop, but one of the reasons I chose this one is that it's open on Sundays. I've been in this shop before but this is the first time I needed to purchase anything. Ironically, I was working on a bike that needed two spokes replaced. I took off a good spoke so it could be measured by the shop. This place is easy to find. The name, for nearly anyone who rides, is easy to remember. Located, just north of Moana on Lakeside (east side of the street). Velo is a locally owned and operated. When I walked in, about 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon, I was greeted nicely. There were two people working there. One of them, the owner. I handed them my spoke, told them I thought it was about 270mm. They said that it appeared to be 269mm. Regardless, they found the proper size in a myriad of boxes of different types of spokes. The price, I thought, was quite reasonable. Under $3.00 for two spokes with nipples. ----------------------------------- Bottom Line I will definitely come to Velo Reno when I need a part for my bike. Disappointed in costumer service bike went in for tune up. They had given me a deadline of completion and missed it, they had the bike for a week in a half. When I had received notification that it was completed they gave it back to me with a flat tire. Once the bike was home noticed shifting still had similar problems as when I had taken it in. I did take it back the next day and had them make it right. Overall the whole experience was disappointing. read more

A great experience buying a bike with this shop, but I've discovered in the aftermath that the customer service is atrocious. They don't care about their customers after a sale apparently. First, it took weeks to even get the bike I bought. They blamed the wait on dock strikes and then when it did arrive I had to wait another week for assembly. Took it back in after a week because the brakes were not adjusted properly. Was told that adjusting the cables was a 24 hr turnaround. Nope, two days. To adjust brake cables. Then took the rear wheel in to fix a spoke and true the wheel. Called beforehand and was told 24hr turnaround (should have known right?). Dropped the wheel off on Saturday and was then told Monday or Tuesday. Called on Wednesday and was told it wasn't done yet, but would be that day. Thursday morning I went to pick it up, still not done. Will have had it for a week to fix a single spoke and true the wheel. When I went on Thursday got the excuse of "we didn't call you so you should have known it wasn't ready" and that they "may" get to it that day. Told the clerk their service was unacceptable and I would return for it the next day because I had to get to work. Also informed the clerk that I was done with them. Here it is Bike Month and I'm driving to work all week because the service at this shop thinks customers are not important after the sale. Will be finding another shop despite this one being right in my neighborhood. read more

Another plus is they didnt make me feel retarded that I was calling the derailer "the shift thing." HIGHLY recommended. read more

Great shop! I usually do my own maintenance and parts replacement as i worked in a shop when I was younger. I am also very particular. I stopped in the shop because I was having a weird clicking sound on my Cervélo w/ Campy. The mechanic spent a good 15min helping me diagnose it free of charge! We decided it might be the cables and it was clear they needed replacement anyway. He checked multiple suppliers to get the Campy cables at the lowest price (I didn't ask and would have paid whatever), so I decided to let them install the cables. I was nervous to let someone install housings and bar tape because I want things perfect. They had the bike back to me a day earlier than scheduled which was nice. But most importantly the work was outstanding!!! The housings are not too long or too short, perfect, and the bar tape is very even! They have earned my business. read more

After searching a dozen different shops for a new mountain bike, my search ended here. Their staff took the time make sure all my questions were answered and that I was all set to hit the trail (which I did) once I got home with the perfect bike for me. Although not a large store, it is well merchandised and easy to shop in. I was there almost two hours and was impressed at how well the two people working were able to assist those that came in the store, while still helping me. Even a gentleman that came in for some air in his tires and had a question about his brake that wasn't working was politely helped while my new bike was being tuned. This is Velo Reno Bicycles....As i walked in the store it seemed empty little stock of bicycles i almost thought they were closed as i got near the back of the store i seen one guy in the back working on bikes and another behind a rack showing some lady tires or what not so i waited my turn and waited and waited so i walked over near them and the guy just kinda looked and me with a glare and said what can i help you with i asked to look at a trek wahoo he said a what??? i said wahoo he then just went back to speaking with the lady trying to buy a 10 dollar item. I waited and looked around for 10 min. After 15 min. i had enough i mean if he really wanted to know what he could help me with he would have said ill be right with you sir! So on to the next bike shop i went and as i past them i said to the guy thanks... No problem in a smart ass way..... No problem buddy ill take my 1k over to another bike shop cya...... read more

I went to Velo Reno to have three Shimano xt brakes bled. When I received the bikes all three brakes felt contaminated/fouled. They put new pads in one brake and said the others needed to be "burned in" (a process I am no stranger to - twenty almost stops on pavement). They used acetone on the rotor to remove any residue (something I know nothing about). I trusted their expertise as I am not a mechanic and only know "symptoms" of bike related problems, and trust the solution is taking it to a qualified bike mechanic. What I failed to understand was that by burning in these fouled brakes I was contaminating the rotors as well. I went and rode the bikes as recommended but they never improved. I went back and they said I needed new pads (more money I don't have). I then attempted to bed in these pads but they were not improved. Went back a third time and they said I need new pads AND rotors (three rotors and three pairs of pads). So all in approximately $439 to have my brakes bled. read more
