Hanging out with an old friend, we headed up to Tahoe for the day. We came across Tahoe eBikes (King's Beach) on our walk and decided to give it a go. The staff was very friendly, inviting, and informative. Their big, furry Newfoundlander was also sweet. The rates were very reasonable and did not burden us with a bunch of legal paperwork. One quick sheet and we were on our way. We ended up biking from King's Beach to Tahoe City, a good portion of which has a dedicated bike trail. Great fun! I was hesitant to write this review, but I had the worst experience in quite some time, so I feel I need to warn others. Five of us rented e-bikes from Tahoe E-bikes. Sarah checked us in, and was very helpful in helping us pick helmets and teaching us how to use the bikes. On the way back, my friend's front brakes completely stopped working. He had to physically drag his feet on the ground to stop on a downhill. I stayed behind with my friend while the rest of the group rode back, and I called the store for help. Harry, the owner, answered the phone. After I informed him of our issue, I expected him to bring out a new bike (we were 10 mins away) or offer to pick us up. This was a safety issue, after all. To my surprise, he was accusatory, rude, and unwilling to help. After 5 minutes on the phone of accusing us of using the brakes incorrectly, accusing us of causing the brakes to fail, and accusing us of lying about all of this, he VERY reluctantly said he would bring us a new bike. 25 minutes later, Harry arrived to our location, and his accusatory and rude tone stayed consistent. He claimed that the brakes on the back tire were working, and only the front ones were not (don't you need both brakes to be working??). He also said that these are not high quality bikes (why would you claim this, as an owner??) so bikers need to squeeze the brakes, hard. My friend tried explaining that he used the brakes properly and were squeezing them all the way. Without letting him finish, Harry was dismissive and promptly drove away. Needless to say, this left an extremely sour taste in our mouth and put a damper on our entire weekend. Long story short, this company does not prioritize the safety of its customers, and this was proven through our experience. Please think twice before renting from Tahoe E-bikes. Pro-tip: We were given the recommendation to head East until we reached Sand Harbor. In hindsight, we should NOT have taken this route. This included a long stretch of freeway with no bike lane, with cars speeding past (almost clipping us), and roaring loudly. Many cars honked at us, and no one shared the road. Similar to another review on this page, I do not recommend this route. read more

Renting from Tahoe Ebikes was an amazing experience! As a casual urban cyclist, I had no idea how much fun I could have on these ebikes. Harry was charming, knowledgeable, and had our whole group's ebikes dialled-in in no time. He then took us out to the trails above Kings Beach, not only did we benefit from his intimate knowledge of the routes, but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the way up the mountain. Boost mode for the win! These machines are insane. We ended up doing 2300 ft, 15.5 miles in 90 minutes, outrageous. You'll be sold on these ebikes faster than you can work your way through the gears. read more

My taint hasn't been this sore since I broke my sobriety in '94, ended up spending two weeks in a Bulgarian bath house, and fell in love with a wonderfully rotund man named Hristo. With it being a little chilly still in the water we opted to rent E bikes instead of water sports on this trip. We ended up riding 22 miles our first time ever on an e bike. It was a lot of fun and the people renting were very helpful except for the fact that we asked for a tip on where to go and we were pointed in the direction of the East Shore Trail. After checking GPS I realized we would have to ride on the freeway so I went back inside to ask if the person at the front desk would advise a first time rider ride on that freeway to access that trail and she said it would be fine. It was indeed not fine and very sketchy at times but once we got past the few miles on the highway (about 8 miles total) the East Shore Trail was veryyyy beautiful. Overall I would love to rent from here again but I would never take the bike to the East shore trail from the shop in Kings Beach. We did it but wow was it nerve racking. read more

We called at about 4:30pm on sat to ask about bike rentals unaware of the time they close. Lady on the phone was friendly and said it wouldn't be a problem but they close at 5pm. She was so kind to take us in 10 mins before closing and set us up. What a blast we rented to bike one with a toddler seat and one with child seat. Bike worked great staff upon return was kind to talk over mountain bike brand and e-bikes as this was our first e-bike experience and we are hooked! read more

Somehow got a flat on a road trip to Tahoe. I had planned on replacing my tires and tubes before we left but ran out of time. Arriving with trashed tires, I could not find anyone to swap my tires and tube. Always the same bullshit answer--We don't work on rear hub motors. One shop told me to bring it in and they would do it for me. They watched me unload the bike and after I wheeled it over they said we don't work on those. I told them I called 20 minutes ago and talked to Kyle. " Well Kyle is new and doesn't know" I said don't let him answer the friggin phone. Last stop was Tahoe E-bikes. Harry could not stop what he was doing any faster to help me. Swapped tubes and tires in about 15 minutes using my parts. He even adjusted my brakes, lubed the chain and slimed the tires. For our family of four, we were able to rent a cargo e-bike (not all bike shops rent these) that could seat an adult and two small kids and a regular e-bike. Sarah at the desk and Harry the owner were great. Unfortunately as we are heading back the cargo bike ran out of battery, the backup wasn't charged before we left, slight oversight. But Harry brought us another one and compensated us for it. Couldn't have asked for any better scenario all considering. Their bikes overall are great quality and faster then some others, we were passing others that had e-bikes from other shops in Incline Village. This is a small business run by an entrepreneur named Harry. He has about 15 high end full suspension e-bikes. They were really fun to ride, and are especially suited to the rugged mountains surrounding North Lake Tahoe. I feel that Harry's rates are really reasonable, and Harry goes the extra mile to set up the bikes for each rider. The front and rear suspensions each need to be customized to each rider. Harry has also upgraded each bike with a top of the line RockShok Pike fork and tubeless tires for a much better riding experience. He also loaned us a spare battery, which we did not need. I own an e-bike, and after a day of riding with my friends, the others in the group decided to look into renting e-bikes for our really big ride the next day. We rode both the Incline and Marlette Flume trails, a total of about 27 miles and almost 3000 feet of total vertical. A perfect test of the e-bikes. The bikes did great, leaving us with about 15% battery reserve. Their big tires performed well on the sandy and rocky areas. Overall a great experience from a great supplier!! read more

I review MTB products and thought I understood e-bikes pretty well but until you swing a leg over one and hit the trails you can't fully appreciate the technology. Me and my fiance' recently rented 2 Focus e-bikes from Tahoe Ebikes and went for a quick spin. We covered 13 miles in 1:28hrs with just over 2,000ft elevation gain. The e-Boost made climbing insanely fast/fun and a lot easier for this one-lunged rider but you will definitely put in work. The learning curve is short and the payoff is huge. You can log more miles in a shorter amount of time which works great for those who want a quick adventure or those who don't have the time or the fitness level needed to get up to many of the spectacular views Tahoe has to offer. Don't be fooled the by the e-bike classification. These are real full suspension mountain bikes that just happen to have an electric motor. They ride like a non-motorized bike in almost all respects and are very poppy and nimble at speed. I ride an Evil The Calling so I'm pretty spoiled yet this Focus e-bike had me grinning the entire time. read more

7 of us wanted to try out ebikes and based on yelps rating, Tahoe Ebikes was the obvious choice. The owner Harry, a young entrepreneur, was gracious and helpful. None of us had been on an Ebikes. Harry explained in great detail how each bike operated. The price was reasonable and his location was ideal to take off traversing east or west. We went from his location, just west of Kings Beach, all the way to River Ranch Restaurant along the Truckee river. It was a beautiful ride and the bike/walking trail accommodated about 75% of the trip. One way was about 1 1/2 hours. We were moving pretty good and stopped a few times to takes photos. We had lunch and retuned. Total round trip with lunch was about 4.5 hours. It was a great was for us to see the north shore, Tahoe city, Fanny Bridge and the Truckee river. First time on a E-Bike and I may never go back! What a fun way to see Tahoe and get exercise. If you've never been on a E-Bike the bike has a battery pack that help you up hills, Amazing! You can choose the pedal assist and use the throttle to go as fast or slow as you like. Harry and Sarah were super informative and helpful to this beginner. Fun for the whole family. I met Harry today, the guy who runs Tahoe Ebikes. This guy is a serious mountain biker who really knows his stuff. I have several Ebikes myself, but they are for road crushing. The bikes Harry rents can be used on the road, but they are highly specialized for the mountain. They are the "Ford Raptor" of mountain bikes. The bike I rode was very simple and intuitive. It was olive drab green in color and highly upgraded. The visual appeal is very strong and the riding experience a delight. When visiting Tahoe, you just don't realize how much harder the high elevation makes a ride. These bikes really help! I don't write reviews, but this was a really amazing bike and Harry deserves a lot of credit for making very expensive bikes available to the public. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience. My two girlfriends and I wanted to do the Flume trail and were worried about the big hill at the beginning of the trail. We are city cyclists and thought ebikes might help us conquer the three mille hill at the start. It was a superb idea we cruised up the hill with assist on the bikes and had an awesome day on the Flume. We started with lunch at Tunnel Creek and began the ride at 1 pm we rode to Marlette Lake and we arrived back at Tunnel Creek at 5:30 pm we took breaks lots of photos and enjoyed the amazing views. The bikes were in excellent condition really comfortable and great power assist when you needed it. Harry delivered the bikes to us at the start of the trail helped make sure the bikes were adjusted to fit and gave us a short lesson on how to operate the bikes. We called Harry when we were close to the end of the trail and he was waiting for us and picked up the bikes. Really excellent service no need to lift the heavy bikes or figure out complicated pickups or deliveries at a bike shop. Harry is great - super knowledgeable about biking in general. Most of my crew (7 of us) had never been on an ebike before and the good mountain bike riders in the group were hesitant to go (experienced riders take offense to having motor assistance). We had some serious climbs and going up was actually fun with electric assist. Essentially, we were able to climb more, still get a work out in, and do more downhills - pretty much had more fun. This was my first EBike rental and was a bit intimidated by the new bike technology. Especially, with my 14 year old son and nephew. Harry made us feel confident and prepared us well. This was a fantastic experience. Harry is friendly and prompt. The bikes are in great shape. You can choose different settings on the bike to allow you to ride normally, or with the e-assist. For anyone from lower elevations, the e assist is a great help that allows you to cover more ground in a shorter amount of time. It's also great for families that have younger kids who might not be able to keep up with stronger adults. I'm about 10 years and about 30 lbs. beyond the time when I could pound up fire trails at high altitude on a mountain bike, or at least that's what I thought before trying the Focus eBike from Tahoe eBikes. I went out on about a 15 mile ride with two dedicated riders on the trails above Tahoe city and had an absolute blast. It took a few minutes to adjust, but after that it was just like riding a bike...okay, a really cool bike that made pedaling uphill actually fun. You still have to pedal but the boost modes made it such a blast to ride. I recommend this to all riders...the bike tracks down hill just like my free ride rig, but its when you start going uphill that the grin will spread across your face.
