My classic off-road bike from 1988 was in need of a tuneup- badly. I called GBB and was quoted $75 for a 'basic tuneup' and thought hmm, REI wants $120 and other shops want $90+.... Should I try 'em? Well, glad I did as the staff was friendly and had bike less than 24 hrs! Upon pickup I erred and though we're open till 6 as arrived 5:10 on Sat, but owner was in pkng lot and reopened! They did a bit of work, but I walked out of there for less than $85 as they didn't play any games and showed me what needed replacement part. They've got a new customer! Thx guys! read more

Adding another review because the service is fantastic! I brought my paragon mountain bike in for a tune up because they did a great job on my tune up for my road bike. My MTB had been sitting in dry storage for 3 years and needed some love. Dropped my bike off at 10am when they opened. Had it back by 12:45pm! In the past I have taken my bike to Sierra Cyclery downtown but it's a little bit farther than I'd like since I work nearby Great Basin Bicycles. I searched around and saw they had equivalent reviews to most shops in the area. I stopped in during a mid-day walk break to see if I can bring my bike in after work to repair a flat and have the yearly tune-up (January is best). They said "no prob, easy peasy" and that I'd have my bike the very next day. Sure enough, they called me the next morning when my bike was ready. I didn't pick it up that day but during another walk break the day after I swung by, paid for it, and was on my way. Everyone I interacted with (three different guys) was very friendly, very helpful, and sincere. This will be my new go-to bike shop. read more

In the Great Bicycle Supply Shortage of 2020-202?, I found everything I wanted/needed here and when the owner found out I had Shimano GRX he pulled me in to his 'puter and showed me all the gravel routes he has compiled on their website. I have just started poking around the Tahoe Basin for gravel routes (I just sold my mountain bike and Old Mt. Rose Hwy on a gravel bike is about as ambitious as I want to get on the dirt) and he enthusiastically showed me his Ride with GPS library of rides both east and west of the Truckee and Reno areas! I've been in Great Basin Bicycles many times over the last 20 years, going back to their previous location. Rich has always been super helpful and an excellent mechanic. I've bought a few lower level bikes for friends and kids but haven't bought a high end bike from his shop. Last year I bought a high end bike online and although it was the most expensive bike I've ever owned I was really unhappy with its fit and performance. Even though I didn't buy the bike from GBB and Rich when I brought it in he quickly and professionally helped me get the bike configured where I'm very happy with it. My 15 year old son walked in patiently waiting to be served because I told him to check out if they carry electric bike. Little did we both know that he would be treated with disrespect since I was not with him. I'm not sure if they had an issue with his ethnicity (Filipino) the way he dressed or because of his age. He was unhappy leaving that store & expresses his feelings to me. I feel with this pandemic situation business should be great-full to have customer walk into their business even though they are window shopping. They should be more considerate knowing they have their business open and not shut down. I'm new to the area and needed a quick repair on the nut of a spoke. First stop was at the big shop up the street. Waited in line and was told the repair would be a week out when the guy next to him took another customer's wheel back right away to fix. I left with my wheel and made the short trip to Great Basin where my spoke was repaired while I shopped for a new helmet. Came here with my boyfriend, who broke a part on his bike. We had been turned away by High Sierra Cycling (nearest to our house), who claimed they were too busy to deal with our problem, probably because it wasn't lucrative enough for them. We were referred to Reno Bike Project, who told us to "come back tomorrow". Um, nope. Found Great Basin Bicycles and stopped in 15 mins prior to closing not expecting anything to be fixed on the spot. However, the tech was able to make it happen with a part we were lucky they had on hand! The young tech guy was really nice. Didn't have much communication with the older guy (who may have been the owner?), but could tell he knew his stuff. Best part- the inexpensive repair. More than fair price. Called to see if they had a front wheel spacer for my bike, they said not sure just come in... Was a bit worried to waste my time but lo and behold, I was greeted by an enthusiastic younger employee who stopped what he was doing to ask how he could help me. He bled my brakes while he sent another guy searching for a spacer. Turned out they didn't have it but in stepped who I assumed was the owner, he proceeded to modify a spacer on his lathe to get me riding that day! He said he could order me the correct one, at which point I told him I was only in town for the day. He then said come around here and took the time to show me local trails on their website and point out good rides! I recently rode from Reno, Nevada to Salt Lake City, Utah. Because I live in Rockland, Maine, I sent my bicycle to Great Basin Bicycles to have it assembled. What a mistake. The front tire was placed on backward. (The computer would not read). The back brake was tightened so much that the rear wheel would not rotate freely. I guess this IBS doesn't care about people from out of town. (They will never be repeat customers). If I lived in Reno Would never go into this bicycle shop. This is the worst bicycle shop I have ever been in! read more

Very happy with the service and support! I purchased a Cannondale CAAD10 from Great Basin a while back that I've been very happy with and finally got around to doing the spin fit they offer, I wish I had done it sooner! I got great feedback on technique and was able to see where I was deficient when it came to pedaling. A few measurements and adjustments were made including seat position and height as well as adjusting the stem while I was on the bike making it much more comfortable. Being able to see a real-time graphic representation of where I was wasting energy in the pedal stroke alone was worth the price. A real eye-opener all the way around! read more
