Black Rabbit Rose is a cool, lowkey bar right in the heart of Hollywood. The interior design is stellar, and the vintage ceiling fans instantly caught my eye. The whole space has a dark, moody ambiance that creates a good vibe for a night out. The service is friendly, fast, and welcoming. I only grabbed a beer this time and $9 is solid for a Hollywood spot. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the drink menu. They also serve food! read more

Turn the corner on Hudson, there's a door with roses - that's the entrance to the bar. Once you go in an attendant came up to us and asked if we were there for the show and checked us in then let us know when things would start up. Grabbed a drink (pictured) that was about $23 with tip, pretty tasty. The bar is super cool speakeasy vintage dark lit magic themed. Nice bar booths to sit at. Not super huge but it wasn't overtly packed with people sitting / waiting for the show. We went on a Thursday night. The magic showroom was comfortable. We were sat on the wall booth which was a little hard to see at sometimes bc people were one in front of the other and not really staggered but the performers did move throughout the room. Warning (nothing to do with the black rabbit rose but everyone including the venue should be wary.) We made the mistake of parking in the back of the Black rose not at the motel, but the empty lot. There were signs all over stating that it was public parking; we had a miscommunication with the black rabbit rose so we arrived too early so we went to go eat at another location as they weren't open yet - as I went to move my car - a lady there accosted us saying we needed to pay since we parked there. I noticed then that all the signs were now missing. She said I needed to pay or she'd call the cops. Luckily, I have cameras on my vehicle and I told her so; that I could prove the signs were there and to go ahead and call the cops, at which she yelled at us to leave and if she ever saw me again, she'd tow my car. I moved it to the lot around the corner which was $20 - but felt so much safer. - Review of black rabbit rose - The magic show on Thursday was so much fun. The magician was funny and the clairvoyant was very entertaining. We were at the very front and had to keep scooting our chairs to turn around because they do go all over the room to include everyone, which might make the chairs a bit loose, so be careful. The drinks were great - we got the dark arts & it did not disappoint; we prefer our drinks light with more cranberry flavor so they were just right. Did the dine and show on a Tuesday. I believe it's called Valentino's Dine and Delight. Although ticket says 7, show doesn't start until 8 and you don't get your food until 9. Show was cool, wasn't too impressed. Felt more like a comedy magic show, which was fine. They call people on stage, that was fun. The only thing that really bothered me was the serving size of the food, especially the fried rice with chicken. Very disappointing. Maybe charge more but give a decent size for the meal. This is one of those places it's been on my list forever and I finally decided to give it a try. I went to an 8 o'clock show on Friday night. I love the entrance. It's very beautiful. When we were entered, we were told to have a seat in the main bar and wait for someone to come and let us into the show. The front bar is very cute. The server told us that we can open a tab there and then transfer it into the magic room. We ordered one of their signature drinks. However they were out of a key ingredient. This is always a pet peeve of mine. It was cream of coconut so nothing too crazy that they shouldn't have been able to get. I'm a mocktail girl and I appreciate that they were able to make one of the drinks on the menu a mocktail. We also ordered the spring rolls. What I wish would've been made more clear is that food does not go into the magic room we had to hurry up and finish them so we could go into the magic room. I would not have ordered them if I knew this was the case and the timing on when the person would come out and take us in. So we made it in the magic room. I love the secret entrance. The room itself is pretty cool. The magic show was subpar. Very strange humor by both magicians. Also, I could totally see everything that Fitzgerald was going to do like at one point he was supposed to make a potato appear out of the air, but I could totally see it in his hand. It was way too big and his fingers were spread out, and I could see the potato . The interactive cart trick was fun . The fire/razor eater was very excellent though. She was the best part of the show. So overall, this place is just average. It was a fun one time experience, but I wouldn't pay to go back. read more

Went here for a bachelorette party last night and the bride literally said it was the best night of her life which I have to credit to the incredible staff and magicians. Dinner was amazing as well and the staff are so transparent about everything including gratuity. Mario was our server at dinner and he helped me out so much accommodating our large party and easily combining our charges to make payment easier for me. I've never met a sweeter staff honestly. Thessa was our server at the show and she was so sweet to us and gave our party complementary shots during the show which was epic! The 3 magicians, Fitzgerald, Asia and Simone blew our minds in the best way possible and made the show very interactive and entertaining especially making our bride's night special. Lastly, Jackson, our host, went above and beyond to make sure our party was comfortable and taken care of so I can't thank this team enough. Afterwards he took us through various club spaces we could explore and Bishop from No Vacancy was also extremely friendly and accommodating for us. I have been attending Black Rabbit Rose for over a decade and have always made it part of my evenings in Hollywood. Back when this was Butchers & Barbers it carried the same vibe but since the addition of live magic shows able the continued solid drink menu it's stayed stable constant and most importantly welcoming. We love the amazing mixology master of Mario. He makes us feel part of the family and makes a killer Whiskey Sour Served Up with egg white. There is a special energy here that makes a person who lives here feel special. Even though I don't know the Houston brothers personally I always sing their praises for curating such impeccable cultures in each of their venues! It's been so long since we visited this magic show lounge. We went for a special Halloween magic show this time and it was so much fun. Place is still the same and it felt a little stuffy inside cause this is a very old building. But the 20s vintage style was very much to my liking! The magic show was great. The magicians were funny and very interactive with audience. Drinks were not bad, the bubbly was better than cocktails though. I liked how organized and orderly everything was. My friend surprised me with an evening of magic at a sexy speakeasy. We got there right when they opened bc we had wanted to have dinner before the show. While we were able to enjoy cocktails, sadly dinner didn't workout before the show, but the servers went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Incredibly underrated, I'm so happy I got the opportunity - through @freedomfrymusic's Instagram, to be put on the list of this ever elusive small venue. I came on a weeknight withy plus one and found free parking on Hudson (impossible on weekends). Black Rabbit doesn't have a sign - look for the logo! I gave the bouncer my name, he gave us bracelets and in we went! We stepped into the small bar with a few booths feeling transported into another world. It was an album listening pre party so my guest and I got our drinks at the bar and after, the show was starting. There is a line to exit and be seated and staff was great, seating us at tiny tables in a candle it room with a small stage. Since we were only two, we were pretty mystified at our luck getting close to the stage, a couple rows back. Great view! Good service wasn't available for the event but that was fine we were prepared. We had a great view and the audio was great! I'd definitely consider coming back for a Magic show, particularly if tourists are in town for that old timey Hollywood vibe. A great date night idea but also the perfect to rent out for a small event, it's worth the trip! read more

Loved the ambiance of the bar and the room that the Magic Show was in. It was very dark and mysterious while comfortable and classy. The servers were attentive and welcoming and accurate in their descriptions of the drinks. The specialty drink menu does need to be broadened! The cocktails were nice and not weak at all, but still left more to the imagination. The performers of the evening were definitely fun & entertaining and the Magic was impressive! I'd definitely plan another night out with friends here. More attention needs to be given to keeping the bathroom clean and was quite disappointed that it was the single stall bathrooms. On the infamous and jaded-with-tourist tchotchkes-Hollywood Boulevard, on a corner, sits an inconspicuous speakeasy bar, all velvety and chandeliered inside. The cocktails are okay. But what blew us into another dimension was the concert in their small Vampire Victorian-styled adjacent theatre. Nostalghia and her band of master musicians lifted us off, and we flew through a soundscape that I can only describe as otherworldly and fucking marvelous! The band was jamming. No rehearsal required with musicians who are at the top of their game. Nostalghia's shockingly deep voice soared and dived and whispered and moaned, and every now and then screeched like a banshee. I don't think this woman is human. We were transfixed for two hours, then floated home on a space cloud of soul-changing beauty, had dreamless sleep and woke up filled with her Magic. Catch her if you can, she is a known recluse and only comes out when she needs our blood. It's worth it! read more

The venue is located in the historic Hudson Hollywood Apartments building. There street parkinga a pay lot around the corner. We were a large group. We did the Tuesday night show and dinner. Our hostess was very professional and quick with our orders. I enjoyed the selection of Thai cuisine. I found the food to be very good. The drinks were good as well. Not overly strong. The magic show was intimate with several 2 seater tables. It was also engaging with audience participation. The magician Gary Fitzgerald was entertaining. He took the time to give us a bit of history about the venue, the building, and also to learn the audience names. Overall, everyone take the time to make sure we were enjoying our experience. Came here for dinner and a show last week. The dinner menu online is not the dinner menu they have at the venue. Their current menu is more Chinese cuisine than Thai. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and the chow mein. The rice was surprisingly delicious with succulent shrimp, but the noodles were way too salty and I just couldn't eat it. Our server was great, attentive. The drinks were good. The magic show was FANTASTIC! There were 3 performers and they were all excellent. The main person was absolutely unhinged, but in a really fun way. There was a visiting magician who really wowed us. The woman from Venice who eats fire and knives was just astounding. We made reservations for Friday night for the 8 o'clock show... Now I get off of work at five so I went home got dressed and then we took an Uber and headed to the show. Haven't been to Hollywood in a while. It's an a really cool spot near a bunch of really cool things and if it wasn't Friday and I was being tired and having to work on Saturday, we probably would've went now we were absolutely amazing and had our socks knocked off by the drink that we got it's called the honey bunny absolutely delicious then we got our socks knocked off by some preshow magic. The guy was so good. We were all just standing there in amazement like with mouth dropped open so we knew we were in for a good time as soon as they let us in and they sat us down. It was a party of seven. It was just so amazing. Speak easy looking just all of these things everywhere and just amazement and beauty and and just looks magical, BMC and magician and the fire eating and the razor blade swallowing and the guessing of peoples passwords on their phones absolutely just jaw-dropping. We had VIP tickets, which nearly had us on stage, as we were in the front row! Inside Out: Beautiful red roses adorned the outside door and the lights around it changed constantly! Loved the secret entrance to the magic show, felt like we were in a speakeasy! The color red throughout the room w/low lights was a vibe! We focused on the stage front and center, as the chandeliers sparkled above! Magic Comedy | Fitzgerald: What a fun show! Fitzgerald is an amazing magician with a whole lot of personality, loved every minute of his show! He was absolutely hilarious! I highly recommend seeing his show, as you will nearly laugh nonstop, and amazed by his presence! Friends and I described him as a mix of Austin Powers and Mr. Bean! Hahaha! Asia Ray | Mind Reader: She was incredible! She was able to figure out items that belong to certain people simply by energy! We still have no idea of how she read the minds of some of the participants during the show! Larry Wilmore: His comedy was fun, as well as his magic! My friend ended up winning a bottle of scotch as a prize! We still can't believe that Larry guessed the alcohol he was thinking of! Jackson: Thanks for the introduction, taking phenomenal photos of us & welcoming us! Thai Food | Spicy Basil Fried Rice w/Tofu: Incredibly tasty, full of flavor, enjoyed each bite! I really really love the magic show here, I think I have brought all of my favorite people to black rabbit rose. It's truely my favorite spot/ in LA for something different. The best thing here is obviously the magic show, Thursday Friday and Saturday. They have magic, illusions, and lots of laughs. It's a very intimate theatre, where it's hard to have a bad seat. The performers are always spot on, and I want to say it feels like they enjoy what they do. I feel like they mix it up often, and you never really know what kind of show you will get, which makes it interesting any time to wish to return. This is the perfect date night , girls night, bring your parents who are visiting, or a cute first date! I don't want to give too much away, but this is an LA bucketlist , and a beautiful Houston bros bar (Google it if you don't know) Walkable to many other bars. I have always been a big fan of the venues created by the Houston Brothers, but somehow I had never visited Black Rabbit Rose. My girlfriend loves magic, so it seemed like the perfect place to celebrate Valentine's Day. The ticket options were straightforward, with a standard admission and a VIP experience. Knowing the level of detail the Houston Brothers usually put into their venues, I decided to go with VIP and was genuinely excited to see what it included. When we arrived, we were seated at a high top table. I noticed several comfortable booths available and asked if we could move, but I was told they were reserved for parties of four. Fair enough. I stepped outside and mentioned to the gentleman at the door that I had purchased VIP tickets. He immediately apologized, checked my name on the list, and initially gave us drink tickets. A moment later he exchanged them for wristbands, explaining that our drinks were covered, up to four each, including champagne. That sounded promising. However, we still could not move to a booth. We stayed at the high top and ordered drinks. Unfortunately, there was only one waitress handling the room. She was clearly doing her best, but it was obvious she was overwhelmed running back and forth between tables. The couple sitting across from us in a booth seemed to be enjoying themselves until the air conditioner began leaking water directly onto their table. I felt bad for them, though I have to admit it made me slightly relieved we were still at the high top. Dinner was fine. The food was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. By the time we were ushered to the theater area for the show, we had only managed to get two drinks. As we entered the stage area, I showed my wristband to the host guiding us to our seats. He acknowledged it, though I found myself repeatedly needing to mention the wristband throughout the evening, although it meant little. Our seats were in the middle section. Not terrible, but definitely not what I would have expected from a VIP experience. We were not near the stage or in the side booths. Before the show began, a server came by to take drink orders. When the drinks arrived, we were told we would need to pay for them. I showed the wristband again, but as before, it did not seem to carry much weight. At that point I simply paid. The show itself was fantastic. Every performer was talented and engaging, and the magic was genuinely impressive. It almost made up for everything else. Almost. In the end, we still had a fun evening and made the most of it, but the overall experience fell short of what I expected from a Houston Brothers venue, and certainly from something labeled as a VIP experience. read more

Really cute and cozy magic show. They have a full bar in the front, and a really neat space in the back. There are 3 magicians that rotate in and out throughout the evening. And there's a close up magician at the bar area walking around. He was my favorite. Even tho it was really dark, and I couldn't see what he was doing, I really wanted to shine a light on him as he was performing. Was there for a birthday party, and the birthday girl got to be part of one of the acts. 2 other people in our party got to participate onstage as well. Super interactive. A fun night out. It's in the heart of Hollywood, so parking is a drag. There are metered parking nearby, and also parking structures. They serve Thai food, and it was surprisingly good, although I think they may be using the kitchen of a Thai restaurant next door. There was only one server, so getting your order was very difficult. We couldn't add anymore food to our order (even tho we got one of each item of the entrees) cause our server never came back. It also took us 30m to get our check. We had to walk up to the bartender and ask if we could get our credit cards back, and even tho, it took another 15-20m before anyone came back over. Each dish came out 15-20m apart from each other. I love coming to Black Rabbit Rose! Just a few steps away from Dirty Laundry, and No Vacancy, Black Rabbit Rose has great ambience, and always has something going on. I have seen all kinds of different shows on their little stage, and it feels authentically Los Angeles. Service is a little bit hit and miss. That's about the only mark on the place. I always feel the servers and bartenders are friendly and helpful, but how long it will take to get your drink or how good it will be will vary. Can't review the bar because we got there right as they started seating us. The entrance to the actual show is definitely a nice touch. Won't spoil it. The actual room is a bit small. The tables are almost on top of each other. If you don't sit in the first couple tables it will be very difficult to see the magicians on stage. The show itself is good I definitely liked this part. Be prepared to be awed and the ending is really cool. Drinks- TERRIBLE if you order the mixed drinks stay away from these. It tasted like the poured lime just from a carton and added a shot. They have two mixed drinks on menu and they are both bad. Opt in for the bottled beer or the wine. You have to order drinks at the beginning of the show and they won't come back around so I was stuck with the two mixed drinks. My partner and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary here at the last minute. It was perfect! The lounge is located in a historical building and it gives off that old Hollywood feel which I love. The staff, including the bartender and guides, were great! The cocktails were good and the magic show was entertaining! My partner was called up to the stage for a trick. It was funny! The magicians were great! You're not allowed to take pictures or video during the show but you can take pictures and video before and after the show. Dark and mysterious when you first enter this venue! It feels like it's exclusive to only those who know about this spot. I would like to mention that it wasn't as cool and refreshing once we arrived ( we had walked, and it was hot) felt like they barely had their AC going. Service from the bar was okay. Drinks are over priced. We had a total of 6 drinks ( 4 at the bar and 2 inside the show) and that came out to a total of $134??? How and why ? I'll come back to that. The magic show was really good! Need I mention they started the show late. I can't recall by how much but I can tell you it was close to the hour late. We had front show tickets and I had a great time. The magicians really kept you engaged in their performances. Definitely made me laugh! The drinks that they sell in the show room were good but not great. They only sell to you once before the show and that's it, so order accordingly. At the end of our show they mentioned they would come to us to close the tab.. to which they did not and then we had to go to the bar. So which we received no receipt of our consumption, there was also no prices on the menus .. so leaves me thinking they can charge as they go or what have you. Really don't have a clue and that's disappointing. For date night this turned out to be expensive. Don't think we will be back again. Unless they make this reasonable. Parking can be complicated. Table but worth it when they do the close up magic and if you want to get picked to carry out some of the tricks. I suggest reserving in advance since ours was a sold out show. The theater is small and intimate and regardless where you sit, you still have a great view. Very interactive at the bar and at the theater. I dont wanna give a lot away because its a good experience to not know what u signed up for. Let's just say we got more than magic. I loved the magician that fix the lady's broken heart. He mentioned he performed at the magic castle. His whole skit was amazing. I also loved the fire breather lady. They were my favorite acts of the whole night. The service was great from easy rsvp online to being able to sit earlier than reserved. They have a whole bar and can make w/e drink not on menu per waitress. The entrees were delicious. My standard was low since food reviews weren't great but it exceeded expectations. Food was decent price 3 entrees shared came out to $105 with 3 alcoholic beverage and the guy doing table magic was a plus. If I could give this place double the stars, I would. Truly a 10 out of 10 experience. We did the dinner and a show on a Tuesday night for my husband's birthday celebration and had an excellent time from start to finish. The service was outstanding, from booking all the way through the evening. The show was hosted by none other than the fabulous "Eccentric Conjuror" Gary Fitzgerald, who had us laughing more than some stand-up comedy shows we've seen. It turns out Gary has been directing and overseeing the magic shows at The Rabbit Rose for seven years, and it absolutely shows. His passion, energy, and attention to detail were next level. He even reached out to me personally ahead of the night to make sure we were comfortable and knew what to expect, which I really appreciated. He also made sure the restaurant staff knew who we were. Sure enough, when we arrived, we were greeted by Jackson, the Manager, who has been there for six years. He treated us like celebrity royalty. We weren't expecting that kind of attention and were pleasantly surprised by how every person we encountered anticipated our needs and made us feel like we were being welcomed into someone's home. That level of care is so rare these days, and it made all the difference. Every server was attentive, communicative, and genuinely seemed to care about the guest experience. As for the food, which was included in the dinner ticket, it was Thai cuisine, and it blew us away. We had steamed dumplings, my husband had the fried rice, and I had the drunken noodles. Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked. This place is a hidden gem, and I can't say enough how much I highly recommend it for a proper date night, a fun company outing, or just a spontaneous night out that won't break the bank. I'm always looking for cute date ideas and stumbled upon this magic show at Black Rabbit Rose. I loooove magic, so I bought tickets for a Saturday night and dragged my boyfriend with me. The building is a large coral color building with magician posters in front. Public parking in the area was quoting between $20-30, but we got lucky and my boyfriend found street meter parking a block away that was only $3/hour. There is someone who cards you at the entrance, before entering the bar. The tickets for the magic show aren't checked until they begin seating. We were welcomed to sit at the bar and order drinks before the show started. Since I wasn't driving I was able to indulge. I ordered the Dark Arts ($17) which has lemongrass vodka, lemon, aloe, activate charcoal, and topped with a rose petal. It was a tasty start to my night. Our tickets were for 7:30pm and they didn't begin seating until about 7:20pm. There was surprisingly a large audience piling in for the show. Over 100 people, which is shocking considering how small the room is in the photos. We formed a line and small groups were allowed to enter. The reason is so that they can tell each group the rules and begin seating. Seating is predesignated, so coming early won't get you any priority. If you purchase VIP seats, there will be higher changes for audience participation. The dress code is upscale attire - no shorts, flip flops, cut-offs, baseball hats, etc. The rules were pretty simple, take all the pics you want with flash off before the show, but don't take pictures or record the show. A lot of the rules were common sense but there are dumb people out there who are inconsiderate, so it has to be stated. You might still get a few dumb idiots, but the business does a good job protecting your user experience, despite the dum dums. When you sit down, there is a drink card. Order everything you want to drink before the show starts. Once the show starts. No more drinks. We both had a VIP Potion Cocktail that came with our tickets. I decided to also try a Honey Bunny ($17) and my boyfriend had the Freddy Naff ($17). Both drinks were unique and tasty. The honey bunny had mezcal, lime, honeydew, and habanero tincture. It had a nice amount of smokiness and a distinct flavor profile. The freddy naff is good for anyone who enjoys an old fashioned, it has rye whiskey, tamarind, angostura bitters, and a flamed lemon peel. We had our drinks distributed and I actually finished most of my drinks before the show. It didn't start until slightly after 8:00pm, and we got out of there before 9:00pm so the show is a smidge under an hour. So I'm told the same group of magicians who perform at Magic Castle comes here. On the evening of our visit, we were fortunate to see the groovy Fitzgerald, the bewitching Asia Ray, and the Scottish Sensation Stuart MacLeod. They were all phenomenal. There was a great amount of audience engagement. I won't give away any of the performance but I LOVED IT! The "magic" was never before seen and absolutely amazing. They took advantage of the whole room and this building is full of MAGIC in itself. We both had a great time. I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I loved seeing my boyfriend genuinely excited and intrigued by the magic show. We had an incredible time and I would definitely consider coming back for future performances. I would have preferred a less crowded longer show, and I would be willing to pay more for it too. Still the best $55 I have spent in LA (the ticket price has gone up). I have never been disappointed at a show here. I am so glad they survived COVID and are still upholding the quality of entertainment and service as they did before the shutdown. Perfect little speakeasy, the decor is beautiful. Service is still great as are the cocktails. And the magic show is always entertaining. This is the place to take out of town guests for the perfect LA experience. read more

One of my friends took me here as a last minute fun thing to do together and we had the best time. The magicians were amazing and funny which made the experience so much fun. They do give you a drink menu when you sit down to order drinks before the show starts. There's only alcohol on the menu but if you're someone like me and can't/ don't drink alcohol just let the waitress know and they'll have mocktail and soft drink options for you. When I say I love magic, I mean that I love learning it, I love seeing it, and I WISH I was good enough and practiced enough to actually perform (but unfortunately I didn't and can't). It was our 17th wedding anniversary and I wanted something magical (pun intended haha). I booked Black Magic Rose since it's a spot that I've been wanting to check out. We got there at about 9pm and the show was at 9:30pm. You're greeted kindly by a doorman who asks if you're there for a show. When he opened the door I thought it was going to be this beautiful super cool looking place, which I THINK it is, but it's so dark that you can barely see anything inside). We sat and waited for the show to start (which ran like 20-25 mins late). They at us down, and this was one of my peeves, the seating is almost all the same height floor except for the far back tables. We had the tallest guy in the room sit right in front of us, so we were trying to look around him as we watch what's on stage. We were seated on a bench with a tiny table in front of us and the couple sitting next to us was literally stuck to us, butt cheek to butt cheek. When sitting down you need to order your drinks right away before the show starts. They have literally three drinks for you to choose from. I'm sorry but none of them were good. I like sweet drinks and there was one that was on the sweeter taste but it used mezcal instead of tequila which has a weird Smokey taste to it. So the seating was uncomfortable, and the view was a bit skewed, and the drinks were not good. For a magic show, this is not very ideal. For a comedy show, sure, but not a magic show. The magic show in itself was pretty. They had a few really good tricks, but the rest of it was ok. It is a smaller theater so obviously they are very limited on what they can perform. Overall, if you haven't been there, maybe go check it out. For me this would be a one and done type of place. I wouldn't go back. For spending $110 on two tickets and $50 on two drinks , I would have hoped on better seating arrangements and a decent drink menu.. read more

I went for a birthday party a couple of Fridays ago and it was an amazing experience! I had talked to a manager for a week about planning something for 17 people and the staff (except Danny) were exceptional. The manager (danny) had not told the staff about our party, however, everyone accommodated us and made us feel special. The chef even stayed late for us and the food was amazing! We went to their magic show on a Friday night. I love intimate small shows like this. There were two magicians that took turns throughout the night. And a girl performer/magician in between each set. personally I loved the girl performer the most with her fire tricks. Tickets were only $50 each for a one hour show. Such a fun outing! First, you start in a dark, sexy bar/restaurant. Then you are ushered down to the intimate theater in groups. Our host was very welcoming as he led us through the secret bookcase and explained the rules (no flash photography and order your drinks beforehand). The drinks are all magic themed: we had the dark arts and wine. The show featured three performers who were all great and very funny.
