There are a few picnic tables outside but the indoor seating is limited to small tables and one comfy couch. But plenty of outlets and free WiFi for studying. Very unique coffee menus. A unique coffee house located on the outskirts downtown Indianapolis. Inside decoration are horror movie themed. I end up selecting a hot Candyman Latte, it tasted excellent with the right amount of sweetness with a good coffee flavor. I also tasted the Ghost Face Latte hot & cold, I wasn't big on the raspberry flavor, the cold was better than the hot. The service was helpful as they did make recommendations when asked. I love a good theme. Black House Cafe is that kind of place to visit when you want a theme. This coffee shop is all horror movie paraphernalia and horror culture, in the heart of Fountain Square. But although it's all horror all the time, it's more spooky than scary. I would not hesitate to bring a child into Black House Cafe, because there's nothing gory or frightening about this place. Mostly, it serves as a cafe art gallery to some of the more famous horror film leads, like Freddy Krueger, the leprechaun in Leprechaun, Michael Meyers, Chucky and other menacing movie greats. It's a fun and playful space. The ambiance is 100/100. Honestly, if you just visited Black House Cafe to check out the artwork on the walls and absorb the horror vibe, it would be worth it. But this cafe has some creative caffeinated drinks also, so you might as well get a coffee. I wanted to get a coffee, but ended up getting a tea. I got the "It's Alive!" drink, which is matcha with pistachio flavoring and milk. Like all matcha drinks, this was one of those drinks where I was like, "Wow! Matcha really does taste like the way fish food smells!" That said, I liked my matcha, and the addition of pistachio flavor put it over the top. They have a few snacky things on the menu, like pastries, bagels, avocado toast and empanadas. I didn't get anything to eat, but I was very close to considering an empanada. We popped in on our way out of town on Sunday around 11:30am. We were able to snag the last free parking spot in the parking lot behind the building. There is a paid parking lot next door as well as street parking available. This place is a Halloween/horror movie-lover's dream! There was decor everywhere from custom sneakers to movie collectables. We didn't mind to stand in line because there was so much to look at. There were a few cafe tables inside the cafe as well as several tables outside. Most all tables were taken. We ordered the Pennywise, Never Sleep Again, & Jamon Queso empanada (the baristas recommendation). Our drinks came out pretty quickly. The Pennywise was good but I was jealous I didn't get the Never Sleep Again - it was so cinnamony and delicious. The empanada took about 15 minutes. But again, we were in no rush. While we were waiting on the empanda we were able to see what everyone else ordered before us. A lot of people ordered the blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It smelled delicious. Our empanada was just okay flavor-wise. The inside of the empanada was not full by any means. Next trip I will try the blueberry bagel everyone was ordering and the Never Sleep Again. Cool horror movie themed cafe & coffeeshop in the Fountain Square neighborhood. It's a very small space and was quite packed on a Saturday afternoon. It's better to get your coffee to go here since seating is limited. There are a variety of drinks and I chose the Fear Street latte off the special June menu. Espresso with white chocolate and raspberry drizzle, this was smooth, sweet and delicious. The only downside to my experience was the wait time - it took about 20 minutes until I was able to order and there weren't that many people in front of me. Once my drink order was in, it was prepared in a timely manner, but I think they could benefit from two people at the order counter to help speed things up. Staying at an Airbnb that is probably owned by the same people right behind the cafe so we went there for coffee yesterday morning. My friend got a hot coffee and I got an iced, so when he said their coffee was really good, I was thinking, well the coffee was good but with getting an iced I couldn't really tell how good. So I went back there today and got a hot coffee and he was right. The coffee was great, service is fast and friendly. The only downside is the location isn't great so you have to know how to park behind if you want to visit, or stay at their Airbnb. The theming is based on old 80s horror movies, so is their Airbnb. They also don't have many seats... Maybe 4 tables, so don't plan to go there for a seat, unless you are going during their non busy hours. I will be getting one last cover from there tomorrow which is it last day. read more

They also have CBD which I would personally skip as you really can't tell any difference/affect from it......save yourself the coins. The drink I ordered Candyman was pretty good though. It had a brown sugar something in it that made it very flavorful but it was sweeter than I liked. They have all types of different coffees and based on the times they put out different season drinks you can partake in too! My go-to coffee shop in the Fountain Square area. Fantastic coffee, smoothies, and horror decor all year round. My favorite holiday is Halloween and this store perfectly encapsulates the holiday and all things horror. The Carmilla hot to go is my go-to year round, but I have never had a bad drink here. Their smoothies are fantastic and I love that they have a vegan protein scoop option. Great service all the time. I went during the T-Swift weekend and I didn't have any issues. There was a line out the door and the small space was packed, but everything ran smoothly. They're a small team of baristas, but they do an amazing job. I am never the only customer in the store when I go-- they are popular for a reason! I still need to try their gluten free options for food! Gluten free avocado toast and gluten free cookies are available and they have several vegan options. It's nice to see a store have so many options for different dietary restrictions. read more

In terms of branding and decor, this place is impeccable. I'm not a horror movie buff but I was quite impressed by the aesthetics. I am disappointed to write this review because I've heard a lot of good things about this place. As a minor critique, they really only had 1-2 people making drinks, when they really could use a third. My major critique is that my coffee was just incredibly bland for what it's worth. I got the Ghostface iced coffee which was $7 for 16 oz. It's supposed to be a white chocolate raspberry mocha. I didn't taste any mocha flavor, nor much of a general coffee flavor. The raspberry syrup is just drizzled on the rim of the cup and settles down to the bottom of the drink pretty quickly. Because I detest syrups that do that (expect for chocolate), I did not finish the drink. And so, the only flavor I had for most of my drink was milk flavor. I'm sure that other drinks are better as this was a very popular place with all of their outdoor tables filled, and I'm sure the food is also good. But this coffee was just not it at all. read more

As a huge horror nerd, I'm surprised it took me so long to finally go to Black House. It is DECKED OUT in horror merchandise and feels like a little cozy hole in the wall, as it is super tiny. It was busy when I went, in the middle of a weekday, but the barista took time to chat with me and make me a great drink. I live in the area and this has long been my closest coffee shop - but I walk right by it every time in favor of somewhere else. The drinks are inconsistent - sometimes there's no flavor and sometimes it is so sweet I can't even choke it down. I've come home and diluted it with a Nespresso pod to make it drinkable. The drinks are also overpriced, even for the area. $9 for a small smoothie is just not worth it, especially when it tastes like nothing. The theming is really cool. I love horror so it is pretty cool to hangout in there. The addition of shoes is a weird choice. Are they trying to sell one off pairs of shoes? Maybe. The owner has also been in the news lately for some actions that are not a cute look. If you like to vote with your dollar, I suggest a quick search. That didn't impact my review or my patronage, as I had already decided this place didn't stack up against the other local options. New to FTSQ Black House Coffee. It's a vibe, for all the horror movie lovers etc. Great location - they have coffee - they have pastries. If you are getting coffee go with drip or cold brew, their espresso service is sloppy they don't weigh their shots - I saw her pulling all kinds of shots and using leftovers that had been sitting there a minute. Then again I value respectable espresso programs - if you load it up with sugar and syrups it'll be fine and you won't taste that it's not done right. Sugary fun drinks do seem to be the specialty if that's your thing. They were nice enough, the space is quaint sits 20 ppl at most, so pretty intimate. read more
