First of all we went this last Friday so mu husband could have some all you can eat fish and it was early and they had run out already, but we decided to stay and eat because we were hungry. So he ordered some breakfast meal. I would tell you what he had but I don't have a receipt. We were there on 9/18/26 between 7 & 8:00 . He said he didn't want sausage in it but there was supposed to be ham in there and it wasn't any. And the apple pie we bought was mostly crust with mush inside. It was like apple sauce. So we have ordered the full turkey dinner for a large group in the past and it was delicious. This year it was just my husband, my daughter and myself so we ordered three individual dinners expecting the same quality. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! They smothered our mashed potatoes and school cafeteria grade turkey in gravy after we requested it be placed on the side. The salad was old and disgusting. We were so disappointed! Went on a Sunday; after the church crowd. Not many tables ; maybe six sat at; others available; however made us wait 5-10 minutes to be sat. Service was good; drinks always filled. The newspaper menus are pretty cool. I went with the breakfast club melt with potatoes; loaded with meats; ham; bacon; egg and cheeses; grilled on sourdough Parmesan bread. Very filling! The breakfast potatoes were nice red skin potato's with peppers n onions... yum. My husband ordered the country fried steak and eggs. It was delicious. Tasty and filling . This diner was great. I had the turkey dinner and my husband had the pot roast. It came with a soup or salad. We had the salad and it was a very good size. And was great. One of the better Black Bears we have tried in our travels. The servers were pleasant, the service was pretty quick, and the food was quite good. Our entire party was very well pleased. We met some friends who live in the area after driving in from Klamath Falls so good service and good food was very welcome. They were extremely busy which is understandable but it took almost 2 hours from the time we sat down to the time we finished. It took over an hour for our food to come out. Our drinks barely got refilled Then on top of that after this horrible service we get our bill and because we had our grandkids with us we were considered a large party (6 of us) and so they added automatic gratuity to our bill. Thinking our server knew it was automatic tip and that's why the service was soooo bad. I am sick of automatic gratuity my family of 6 is not a large party. I brought my three nieces for lunch and since they're little I had to leave the table with them to take the to the restaurant and I'm not leaving my purse. I hadn't even paid because we weren't even ready to leave. Came back from the bathroom to find the table cleaned off, not even gone for more than a few minutes & if I hadn't paid why would a table be cleaned off, their excuse was that it looked liked the kids were done eating. Eggs Benedict was overcooked with a hard yolk. The server forgot our side order of sweet potato fries until we had to remind them. Admittedly, those fries were the best thing we had that night so we didn't mind so much when it finally came, almost after we were done with eating our entrees. I had fish & chips. So I've had black bear diner in other cities and this is worst location I've been to in terms of food. Let's start with the good. Service was pretty decent. Our server was super nice and friendly. The tables are small and weirdly set up. We arrived around 11am and not many diners yet. Now the food. Tenders were over done and dry. Onion rings were just decent. Went today with my family and the food was decent.. but the service here was subpar. After getting our drinks and our food we were not checked on even once. I understand that sometimes it can get busy but we sat there with empty drinks and not asked once if we needed refills. Whomever is cooking there is a horrible cook! I had planned to go to the Visalia Black Bear for Thanksgiving but there was a line out the door and down the sidewalk. My husband decided to go to the Tulare diner. I thought, well it's been 2 years maybe they have a new cook. THIS is what I got after ordering a $31.99 Prime Rib meal! I will NEVER eat there again. I don't even care if my husband wants to go eat there again. The stuffing was mush and tasted funny and the prime rib was inedible. When they served it to me it looked like they had thrown it on the plate. If I was the waitress I couldn't have served that too anyone with a straight face. PLEASE get a new cook! Maybe been to this location once the whole time I've lived here in Tulare County. This week we went twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Shared a California burger for dinner with fries and side salad. They let you order the cooking temperature how you like it, which is nice. Very nicely prepared and service was pretty good. For breakfast I was craving a waffle so we split a big papa breakfast with a waffle, eggs bacon and a chicken sausage. The waffle wasn't made with waffle batter but more like a pancake batter. I got the chicken sausage scramble with fresh fruit and sourdough toast. It was really tasty! The eggs were cooked to done, but not dry. The last time that I went here, I ordered a full-size salad, which was huge and very fresh and then I also got a hamburger and some fries. The hamburger was huge also and cooked pretty well. Everything was hot and my son got a side of scrambled eggs that was hot and a huge portion as well service was very hometown friendly, and when I had mentioned that it was hot in there, they had turned the air down and it was very comfortable after that. I also bought three personal pies that were all delicious and fresh that lasted about four days in the fridge. Thai review is for our to go order we placed. My daughter and I love the chicken apple sausage scramble. However, I noticed it's no longer on the menu. Such a stab in the heart! I wanted to get this for my daughter as it's her fav and she has a big competition today. So I tried calling to see if they could make it. I think I called 8 times since no answer (they were busy). The sweet person on the phone was able to ask the chef and he knew the scramble and was able to make it. It made our day! However, the downside is once we got back to the hotel we noticed we had no butter or jam for the toast and the toast was dry . The hotel didn't have any either so she wasn't able to eat it. No ketchup for the hash browns either. The scramble itself was tasty as she remembers. Appreciate them being able to make it. read more
