Houston we have a problem!!!! Somebody decided to NOT serve the big fluffy biscuits with breakfast!! Save a buck lose a customer??? Is that what you want? The omelette was great with lots of meat and the country potato's were awesome!! The service was fantastic!! I do not think I'll return if you don't bring back the biscuits, the replacement tasted like it had been microwaved and was chewy. The gravy wasn't very good either it was lumpy... again, great service!! But you come for the food!!! read more

My ham, tomato, avocado and cheese omelette with hash browns. The hash browns were on point to my liking as I can never find a place that ever truly cooks as I request. The omelette was quite hearty with large chunks of delicious ham. This was obviously a to go order, but the service was just the same quantity had we dined in. When local, this is a place we enjoy visiting! We did fly in from another state and drove 1hr just to eat here! Hubby and I shared the western omelette with the country potatoes, sourdough bread (perfectly buttered) with a side of avocado (avocado foe the bread)! Yum!! Food was perfect and delicious! Update: Biscuits are back. 10/10 breakfast. They even had pomegranate jelly! So good. Worth every calorie and dollar.

Absolutely horrid! We should have turned around after seeing a practically empty place at 12:20 pm on a weekday. Ordered the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and a salad. Mashed potatoes were powdered and had some strange crunchy bits in it. The brown gravy was way over salted and more like the consistency of jelly. Salad was out of a bag; wilted iceberg, carrots and the purple stuff. Roast beef was tasteless. The "sandwich" part was two halves of overly greasy thick white bread on the side of the plate. Ate a few bites before I stopped out of fear of getting sick. read more

I'll try anything once, but I won't waste my money twice. Just another mediocre at best Porterville diner. For the amount I paid for one meal, I could have bought all the ingredients and cooked 5 better breakfasts myself. Why own a restaurant if you're not going put any effort into what you're cooking. Over salted potatoes, tasteless omelette, rotten avocado. One of the servers was taking up what seemed to be the best table in the joint to take a load off on her phone. Could have sat 6 people. These people kept their businesses open through COVID. Some of them volunteered when they didn't have enough money. The service and food here are great. It's clean. The atmosphere is bright and open. Good service can be hard to find these days but the staff treat me like family. The omelettes are fluffy and massive lol. The coffee is decent. Try the biscuits and gravy. read more

Was hesitant to eat here but was in for a huge surprise. The service was excellent, Chris was great to us and helped us in any when not knowing what to order. We had two dinners with fried chicken, fried catfish, 5 fried shrimp, mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Everything was hot and tasted perfect. We both loved. The gravy today tasted extra good today. The only bad thing was the price of peach cobbler with ice cream. It costed $9.95 for a compote dish of cobbler with scoop of ice cream. Really? That was super expensive for that. This place is good. Mom and I stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We happened upon their brunch buffet. There were not a ton of choices, but everything was really good. Two types of eggs, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, French toast, salad bar, and few savory lunch type items and pie! Everything was pretty tasty, well stocked and reasonably priced. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, is temperature. I personally like my food on the hot side, and for me the buffet items could have been warmer. The service was also really fantastic. What a hidden gem! My bf and I stopped for breakfast about 10:30 mid week. I had the special, steak fajita with eggs and he had a great waffle combo. Both were well cooked, tasty, and generous. Kelly was our waitress and kept our coffee full and a smile on our faces. They have a wonderful selection of pies and we will split a meal next time so we will have room to try some of them. Every time we visit Springville or Porterville we always make sure we eat at RJs. Their meals are always excellent and the service is great. Kelley our server on last friday was awesome and she recommended to come back for the sunday brunch. We ordered off the menu and because we don't do brunches and the meal was excellent again, Our servers were Judy and Danielle both were efficient and social, Kelley was leaving to go home, but she did come over to thank us for returning. Friday I had the sausage/cheese omelet, and on sunday I had the chicken fried steak, both were excellent. We both highly recommend this restaurant, and really adored Kelley. Keep up the good work. We have bought pies to go several times from here with some of them being under cooked, now this is the final time we will ever go back. The peach pie we bought was agin under cooked bottom crust still raw and to finalize the whole thing there is a hair in the crust of the pie, not just laying in it but actually rolled into the dough, very gross, we are done with them and their pies.. read more

Its pretty good, but I would not go for the buffet. Having read such glowing reviews, I waited for a weekend to stuff my face. All of the food was at best...warm. Butter would not even melt on my french toast ( and syrup room temp) , I love butter, but not in solid form so much. Well heck, at least I can have some pie. NOPE! Store bought cake, store bought breakfast danish , and cold, hard bread "pudding". And for some odd reason, we were not allowed to sit in the buffet room. Bummer. read more

Walked into this place (as there's not many breakfast spots in Porterville) There was no one really in here which should of made us realize to not eat here but with all the 2013 winner signs outside,we figured we'd give it a try. First off,I asked the guy who gave us menus if I could substitute a meat on the Country special and he said yes,Then the waitress comes and tells me that I can't.Maybe they need to get on the same page? So I ordered French Toast instead. That came out cold as hell but I was so hungry and no one came back to check so I just ate it anyways. My Husband has the fried Chicken which he said was "Ok" With all those signs outside, you'd think they'd hold those standards? Nah. I enjoy coming here for breakfast and some times brunch. The food is good not the best but for what this town has to offer it's good. I try different item's most of the time and so far I've liked everything I've ordered. I normally give 5 starts but on this one I'm doing 4 only because I belive they have room for improvement in the customer service area. When I first came in they where dry and rude and as they got to know me they became nicer, (after they read my review they just might go back to dry and rude. The food here is great especially the weekend breakfast buffet. My favorite is the omelette. The waitresses are ok. They are not the friendliest but they do keep everything stocked well. It's not the most well kept place but it's always been clean. read more

RJ's used to be so good when we started going there a couple years ago. It has been steadily going down hill now for about 1 1/2 years. We always have the buffet since we are in a hurry. Started with the biscuits being hard as rocks, then having to wait (a long time) for bacon, etc. Next time the egg omelet was not cooked all the way through, plus the above mentions problems. I called the owner and spoke to her as I would want to be told it it were my restaurant going down. She was very gracious and nice and said they had new cooks. Waited a few months to go back. Same problems. Went today for Mother's Day brunch and there was no improvement. We will never be going back. It is such a shame they have let it go as it was fantastic before. read more

Worst biscuits! Greasy which caused it to have a hard shell. When I cut thru it with a knife it was so hard the plate clanked. Gravy had an amber hue to it instead of white. Looked like they used cornstarch instead of flour. Hubby had a chicken fried steak that tasted like it was fried in old oil. Crossing this place off my list. read more
