I have heard about this chocolate shop for about a decade, but as it is about 70 miles from my home, I had not been there. But on a recent Quilt shop hop, imagine my surprised to discover the Quilt store was two doors down from Stafford's. I think that was a sign that I had to go visit. The double sign was that the quilt shop gave away coupons during their event for one free piece of chocolate. So for my free piece of chocolate, I chose the red wine truffle. Oh my goodness, I had to close my eyes to savor it, the taste was that sensational! The shop itself is beautiful. It has tables inside so you can sit and enjoy their confections. All of the shelves are lined with all kinds of specialty chocolates. These include chocolate covered nuts, truffles, bars, Pops, and all kinds of delicious concoctions. You can order single pieces at the front counter for an individual choice and they will compose a box of your selections. They also had many, many packaged items ready to go on the shelves. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about their offerings. They were willing to explain the different flavors; the cost of a box of six individual truffles which you can select was $12.50. There's parking in front of the shop on the street and also behind. It's nestled in the Porterville downtown area with multiple Restaurants and eateries very close by. One could have a fun day window shopping, lunching out and then popping by Stafford's for a sweet treat and to buy gifts to take home. Absolutely not to be missed! read more

Love Stafford's chocolates and their drinks and staff. They have different unique flavored chocolates for different seasons but the local favorites remain the same and stand the test of time. I know everyone love the red wine truffle, but my personal favorite is their lavender truffle. Did I forget to mention that they have sugar free chocolates too for diabetics. Those sugar free ones are the best in town. I wish they have an even larger selection of sugar free chocolates bc those are truly amazing They also sell drinks like the Portervillian ( a specialty latte), various matcha flavored drinks etc. and have a loyalty card for drinks only. I can't wait to find out what else is in store as the months go by. Sometimes I find a sourdough loaf of bread sitting on the counter for sale. Fabulous place to hang out with someone for a chat or a game of cards. My favorite drink is the Cocoa Cold Brew...not everyone knows how to make it, so I ask before I order...when made right it is deliciously creamy and not too sweet. My hubby and I split an Ooey Gooey Apple once a month as it is both of our favorite dessert in existence! We also come hear for co-worker gifts because their chocolates are beautiful and tasty. This is the cutest little chocolate shop in the cleanest downtown I've seen in the valley. We stopped by on our way through Porterville. The whole shop smells like decadent chocolate, what I imagine Willy Wonkas factory smells like. They sell all sorts of yummy things, from S'mores, to cookies, to chocolate Easter eggs and more. They also have a nice drink bar, with espressos, matcha and lemonades. The staff are so kind and knowledgeable. I purchased the smores bar, chocolate dipped Oreos, cookies and assorted chocolates. The honey orange blossom truffle and ooey gooey bar are a must try, but honestly you can't go wrong with anything in the store. The ooey gooey bar has smooth peanut butter, the softest marshmallow and caramel all covered in either dark or milk chocolate and topped with an almond... it's the most amazing piece of candy I've ever eaten. We stopped in at Stafford's upon the recommendation from Ashley @ Calico Mermaid quilt shop. We bought chocolates and other treats to take home as gifts for friends and family. The Portervillian iced coffees along with bakery treats were delicious and the perfect snack before heading home to the L.A. area. Highly recommend! read more

My family and I have been going to Stafford's for over 30 years. Larry ran the company with integrity and passion, unfortunately when it was bought by a new family everything changed. I've tried supporting over the years and so has my family but this will be the last year. My boyfriend purchased a very special surprise gift for the holidays for me which was suppose to include 4 milk chocolate ooey gooey bars and a 24 piece of milk chocolate truffles. Those two items with shipping came out to $90. When the chocolates arrived they sent the wrong box of truffles. A mix of dark and milk. We immediately reached out and spoke with a manager named "Carolyn" who said she would resend a new box and that she packages them herself and must have made the mistake or we could have a refund. We opted for a refund that she couldn't do and said she'd call back later with the bookkeeper. No call. Next day called asked for the card number and said she'd call back. It's been days no refund and no call, we just reached out this morning only to be told she isn't available and they'd leave her the message. Now I'm upset, I'm having to chase down a refund from your product, you hand package after you ruined a surprise that was suppose to be sweet from my mom who passed away and now you don't even have the courtesy to keep your word on following up to make it right? It seemed odd to make a mistake of packaging the wrong chocolates when they're hand packaged and it's not a warehouse or large manufacturing error; but it makes sense now, you simply don't have any integrity. Being a business owner myself I would have immediately refunded and sent a new box, lose a little money to retain a lifelong customer, but clearly Stafford's can't package orders, get the bookkeeper and manager in the room at the same time, follow up with a customer or keep their word. The disappointment is heartbreaking, Stafford's brought so much joy to my family before my mom passed and having it during Christmas was more special than they realized. I hope their carelessness and lack of kindness changes not just for the business but as people because you're a chocolate shop, people come there for tradition and joy. They lost a a lifelong family of customers. I don't care if they refund any of the $90 at this point, they obviously need it more than we do. read more

I found this little gem while working! I was craving something sweet so I searched up bakery's and to my surprise Stafford's appeared. I grew up visiting porterville often and am now in porterville once a week for work..and I never knew this place existed! I'm so happy I stumbled upon it! I bought A LOT of goodies maybe more then I should have..I mean this is probably why pregnant women should not go into these types of places hungry. LOL My first impression was wow this place is so cute! The inside is very cute and had a ton of wonderful options on every shelf. I had no idea what to get. So I just started grabbing things that looked appealing...again I'll blame that on my growing baby. ;) I also asked the young lady working what her favorite thing was and she mentioned the OOEY GOOEY BARS this magical bar has been on my mind since the last bite I had! It literally taste like an ice cream sandwich without the ice cream..it was absolutely delicious! I also had the California moon pie, s'mores and some yummy cookies they had. All were amazing! I also had a latte which was good, and got a 1/2 pound of SF chocolates for my dad they were kinda pricey, but I wanted to give them a try. This is a great place to pick up some goodies, and it looks like they are always stocked up with fun stuff during each holiday. It's great having a delicious candy store here in Porterville that is owned locally. They also offer wonderful coffee. I've always heard of this place and seen the commercials but being out in Porterville didn't make checking this lovely establishment easy, but I'm glad I did. As a novice chocolates connoisseur and part time cookie baker, I found this hidden gem a welcome relief to all the mas produced chocolate products you find at a regular store. They have a wide selection of chocolate products and even a coffee bar with various hot and cold drinks. My favorite part is they sell chocolate chips for five bucks a baggie, perfect for cookies or just munching straight out of the bag. They have some amazing and tasty chocolate bars as well and feature some local products from other vendors. This place is a bit of hump, but totally worth it. Porterville and the surrounding area has some unique and delicious destinations. This place is so cute, I wouldn't expect a chocolate place to have a great coffee but the iced white chocolate mocha was the best I've ever had. The building is a super cute older building with a lot of character, lots of places to sit. It was very quiet but it was early when I went and empty. They have tons of chocolates, baked goods, ect. that all looked great. I'll definitely try next time. This is an incredible, old fashioned chocolate shop. Everything is made from scratch and high quality. They have excellent espresso too. The owner, Rob, is super nice as are the employees.
