But on a recent Quilt shop hop, imagine my surprised to discover the Quilt store was two doors down from Stafford's. I think that was a sign that I had to go visit. The double sign was that the quilt shop gave away coupons during their event for one free piece of chocolate. So for my free piece of chocolate, I chose the red wine truffle. Oh my goodness, I had to close my eyes to savor it, the taste was that sensational! The shop itself is beautiful. It has tables inside so you can sit and enjoy their confections. All of the shelves are lined with all kinds of specialty chocolates. These include chocolate covered nuts, truffles, bars, Pops, and all kinds of delicious concoctions. You can order single pieces at the front counter for an individual choice and they will compose a box of your selections. They also had many, many packaged items ready to go on the shelves. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about their offerings. They were willing to explain the different flavors; the cost of a box of six individual truffles which you can select was $12.50. There's parking in front of the shop on the street and also behind. It's nestled in the Porterville downtown area with multiple Restaurants and eateries very close by. One could have a fun day window shopping, lunching out and then popping by Stafford's for a sweet treat and to buy gifts to take home. Absolutely not to be missed!

Over the summer, I've frequented scoops as the location and atmosphere are unique and fun. It is in a great spot, and has friendly staff behind the counter. Unfortunately, the ice cream itself is intensely unremarkable. Flavors at Scoops are either minimally flavored creamy milk or absolute hydrogen sugar bombs. There is no in between. I did enjoy one flavor, but I inquired the scooper if they made it in house but was disappointed to learn it was one of their imported flavors. Additionally, the dirty sodas are not so dirty. They are simply overpriced sodas. Moreover, the staff is helpful and prompt, but management fails to realize that a single scooper for a busy night sours the experience for all. Long lines and wait times are easy to build up especially when the more involved items are being ordered. A few times I've heard some people tell the scoopers that they know the owner, at which I've questioned the point. Odd. Speaking on owners, of the times I've visited Scoops I've seen them once. His contribution was yelling at his scoopers. It created an awkward environment and longer wait times. For being vocal and seemingly involved in their community, I expected the owners to be more involved and professional. Poor scoopers. That's why we avoid coming on the weekends or whenever we see that jeep in the parking lot. We absolutely love this place and are gonna be sad when they eventually close down. The coffee was really good, but what I enjoyed most was the atmosphere. The shop is in an old building with high ceilings and large windows. There are different seating areas with tables, couches, and large stuffed chairs, and the space is decorated with vintage items. As I sat there, I realized it is called "Mission Coffee" for a reason: everything sold at the café supports the Visalia Rescue Mission. There were signs showing the number of meals and showers they have provided. Along with having a really good coffee shop experience, it felt good knowing that my purchase was supporting a meaningful cause.
