I've been gate keeping this local gem for years. Reserved for weekend breakfasts and introducing friends and family from out of town. It's my go to for a good meal and great scenery. This restaurant is located within the local airport. So you get amazing views of aircraft land and taking off from the runway. Great entertainment for everyone, especially kiddos. From the moment you arrive, the staff are friendly and attentive. If you become a regular, the servers remember what specials you gravitate to, which only adds to its charm. Food is always consistent and I have yet to be disappointed. Whether having breakfast or lunch, it's always great! When available, I splurge for the steak and eggs special. Steak is thick, char grilled and cooked to your desired temp. The country potatoes are always crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, seasoned well. Adding bell peppers and onions adds to the experience. Eggs always cooked perfectly and toast soft yet crisp with plenty of butter. Highly recommend. The breakfast bowl is my wife's go to. A little bit of everything. Crispy country potatoes, sweet grilled onions, bell peppers, bite size sausage, bacon and plenty of cheddar cheese. Then topped with eggs cooked to your liking. Super disappointed. Yelps hours say that they're open. I flew all the way up here to get fuel and a great breakfast. I got met at the door by a young man who tells me that the restaurant is closed for the day. Be aware stairway at minimum call first. Unreliable service. read more

Walked in on a Sunday and there was a short line of about 3 groups. Nobody was keeping track of the line even though there were numerous tables open, cleaned and ready to go. They had 1 buss boy that was bussing tables and also taking care of the line. Only 2 waitresses and 1 cook. This place was severely understaffed for a Sunday at 10am. Prices are about the same as Black Bear Diner but portions are a lot smaller. Service at Black Bear is impeccable. Here, not so much. read more

Fantastic homey airport diner. Whether you're a pilot or just visiting the airport to have a meal and look at the planes and aviation memorabilia, the Airway Cafe is a no frills place with some tasty food! I had the Amelia Earhart burger which was cooked from non-frozen and served with some delicious fries. I also had a Greek salad on the side, which had a decent amount of vegetables and tomatoes. The salad was decent, but I'd probably skip it next time. All in all - if you're looking for a delicious burger -- that's the thing to the get at the Airway Cafe. Enjoy! read more

I discovered this place doing a "$100 hamburger" run with a pilot buddy if mine. The flight in was nice, very facilities for those pilots reading this. California Air attack is based here too. Great food, good service, a very mom and pop feel here. This is one of the best places to grab breakfast in the valley. If you ate close, drop in, if you're a flyer fly in and grab a bite. We stopped on our way back from the Sequoias and we're surprised at the crowd, but even in this out-of-the-way location, people know a good thing. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food was diner/comfort food but fairly healthy (butter and syrup on the side, nothing too greasy). They have indoor and outdoor seating, a large parking lot, grass, picnic tables, and what looked like a covered outdoor BBQ/ bar area. Went in this Saturday morning with a group of 12. They had a table for 10 people and a small table for 2. So I asked if I could take the large and small tables. They told me they could not accommodate my party because they said it would make it difficult for ticketing. I don't understand why. But will never go back there again. It was not the host it was the manager and I asked to talk to her and she did not want to come and talk to me. Very unprofessional. read more

I left a review about an experience I had a month ago. The owner replied to my complaint and said she was "baffled" that we walked out on our bill. I just want to put it out there that we only ordered coffee, orange juice and a Bloody Mary which we never took one sip of because we were tired of DEBBIE being rude. The waitress was really sweet and attentive. It wasn't the owner. The one star is for her. What we ordered was well below par. Don't put avocado toast on your menu if you can't make it better than that. Toast, avocado, and scrambled eggs on top Maybe the cook needs to go to Coffee 2.0 and learn how it's done. I ordered country hash browns but they forgot the onion and bell pepper. The sweet waitress brought out the onion and bell pepper on a separate plate. What?! I was in porterville for jury duty and rather than eating at a chain restaurant I looked for a home town restaurant and found this place. Can't say enough about the friendliness and service. They yelled and told me it was "Discrimination" that I posted a negative review of the ill treatment I had previously received. I have a right to share my experience regardless if employees disagree. This place is now open. Locals place for sure. Located at the Porterville airport. I ordered the Sausage & Eggs with toast. It was absolutely wonderfully delicious! Great home cooked food. You won't be disappointed. The decor reflects the airport and the history of the local area. And they have an old school bar! That so awesome. Too bad I was here for breakfast. Lol. But, they do have a new thing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights called "Burgers & Booze". I will need to check this out the next time I come in. read more

If I could leave No stars I would. I'm highly disappointed in this cafe. I have came here a few times with family and friends and have enjoyed the atmosphere and food, however today was my last visit. I can honestly say that I have NEVER been treated negatively or disrespected at a restaurant but the owners until today. I went to go have a late breakfast with my 1 year old baby and my mother. They gave us their paper Menus along with a laminated kids menu (incapable of tearing or ripping unlike the paper menus). My 1 year old baby was enjoying holding and playing with the laminated menu so I asked our waitress if we could keep the menu and she allowed us to do so. However, only within seconds the Owner walks up to our table and grabs the menu out of my 1 year olds hands. At this point, I am quite shocked because I could not believe that she did that. She did not ask us for the menu back or was even nice about it when grabbing it. I then notified our waitress to call that lady back (apparently that is the owner) and when I communicated to her my concern and problem with her behavior, she proceeded to tell me she didn't take it and then said "oh look now she's ripping it" & I laughed because it my one year old was bending it. It is highly unlikely that a one year old baby can rip a LAMINATED menu. It is physically impossible due to the lack of strength it would take for that to even happen. I probably couldn't even rip it. After I told her that she wasn't ripping it and that it was highly impossible she again YANKED the menu out of my daughters hands!!!!!!! And said "you know what, give me my menu back" I literally got up and left. Is this even real???? Like I really can't believe this happened to us. Upon leaving, I call to speak to the owner and of course it's this Debbie lady who proceeds to let me know she's the owner and I again communicate my frustration with her in the most calm and civil way and she has the nerve to say "I told your daughter I was going to take it" and I responded with "she's only 1, she doesn't under the concept of that statement. She's barely learning words and numbers" and she had the nerve to say "does she not understand words?" Like are you effing kidding me. Is this a joke???? I'm fuming!!!! I will make sure that I let everyone I know who goes there to not go back because I feel like I was treated horribly and for my 1 year old to experience that is so wrong on so many levels. A one old does not have the brain capacity to understand why a grown adult woman is taking something out of her hands in such a horrible way.... My daughter started crying. I would have been fine if she had came up to us and politely asked us for the menu. But unfortunately that was not our experience today. I will not be returning due to this and everyone I know who goes there will not either. They lost my service entirely. I highly encourage people with babies or young children not to go here. Also, my baby sat next to me in the booth (since she can now sit on her own) and was behaving fairly well until this happened. I've never experienced this at any restaurants, not even the High end restaurants that I have been to have I ever been treated this way. This is such a disgrace of a business and I'll make sure that everyone knows about it! read more
