We drive by this restaurant at least 3 times a week and have just never ventured in to try. Finally stoped in last night!! I had the double bacon burger special and a coke. The waiter was very attentive to our orders and double checked everything before putting it in to the grill. The restaurant theme is a 50's style atmosphere and they had the music to go with it. It was a fun place! The burger came out hot and the order was spot on! Fries were cooked to perfection (crispy on the outside). Absolutely delicious food!! So initially, we went to another restaurant, but it was takeout only. So this was my second choice. The service was very good and we were seated right away in a booth. The ambience is so so but it's an old place and it didn't bother us. My husband and I both had coffee and it was pretty good. I had the egg scramble with mushrooms that were excellent bacon and cheddar cheese plus hashbrowns. My husband had the chili Verde omelette and he said it was better than some of the other ones he's had. This is because there was more meat and an extra egg. He also had hashbrowns. I've always wanted to try this place but it would always escape my mind. Well today I finally decide to take my husband here for a lazy weekend breakfast before running some errands in town and I'm glad I did. It looks like a little hole in the wall place, but don't let it fool you. At first I originally thought it was strictly a burger/lunch type place, but it's more like a Dennys in my opinion, except better!!! Giving off some 60s vibes inside with the decor, black and white photos and Elvis music! Very friendly service, as soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated and server was very attentive and checked on us constantly, but not too often. Wait time for the food was pretty fast, and the food was amazing! When i say better than Dennys, what I meant was that they offered almost similarly items, except the flavors and freshness of the food was much better. More like a nice home cooked taste! Came in on our way upstate and needed some good food to keep us running on our drive. Chubby's did not disappoint. The dining room is classic and well kept up but a bit dated stylistically. Though that's not necessarily a negative given how well everything is kept up. As for the food, listen, it's diner food. No nonsense no thrills, just classic diner food at a good price with good service and good portion size. The food won't win awards but it will do the job and then some. Was visting relatives in the area and found this old-school, neighborhood cafe. Was full on Sunday around noon, had to wait 5 minutes. Service was excellent, food was good. Had the biscuits and gravy which were tasty but lacked any sausage. Coffee was hot! Nothing extraordinary but everything was good and basic. When visiting the local Native American casino in town all the way from Atascadero, we have had 3+ positive experiences at this strip mall, old school vibe diner. We've had breakfast multiple times and some lunch items as well. Never a complaint and that's the big tell because my near 80 year old mother will let anyone and everyone know if anything negative creeps up with the food. On 5/11/24, she had the French Toast with Strawberries and actually had compliments about the different type of bread that they used. I asked the server what kind of bread they used because my mother found it unique. We were told it was made in house. He didn't know if it was white or sourdough but my mother said it didn't taste like sourdough bread so it had to be white. Regardless, a happy (fed) mother and wife makes for a good day. I recommend this diner (with enjoyable 50's music always on the speakers) for any and all seeking a solid and affordable breakfast or lunch burger [sorry, can't speak to dinner or other item menus]. NOTE: Cash is preferred here for a small discount. However, the restaurant has added the Clover Tap System for any and all card purchases (and Clover point accumulation). One of my absolute favorite places to go for breakfast any time. Their omelets are hardy and they make the rest of the food with love. It is themed really old school like the movie Grease. The service is great every time I have been there and they cook the food so quickly with a high level of quality it is pretty amazing. The decor was typical of a 50's style diner. The old black and white photos on the wall. Poor waiter was the only guy working the floor. I bet that is the same for the cook staff. I looked over the menu. The prices were good. Eating here won't break the bank. I went with the Chubby's special. The food came out pretty quick. It was time to eat. The food was ok. Nothing that had a wow factor. I would eat it again if I was on a budget. The eggs were cooked a little too long but they were fine. Service was excellent. Hashbrowns cooked to perfection as were the eggs. Coffee was delicious. Now for my one complaint. It really is one of my pet peeves. Why can't restaurants make their own gravy for biscuits and gravy. Not to say it was horrible but everyone pulls it from a can. Overall the meal was great. I will go back. Decent food at a decent price, just down the street from our hotel and right next to Starbucks. Can't beat the convenience and they have large portions which is great for feeding the crowd of kids waiting for a nice hot breakfast. Nothing particularly special about the breakfast fare we ordered, though, it was well prepared and seasoned. They were out of sour dough bread and the girl who was handling the order admitted she was not familiar with the weekend breakfast specials but other than a few bumps I had a good experience. This is truly one of my families favorite spots for breakfast, it was pretty crowded on a Sunday morning but 100% worth it! We waited around 15 minutes for a table but once we were seated the one waitress that seemed to be taking care of everyone helped us out fairly quickly. I ordered a french toast breakfast which was absolutely to die for! Everything on my plate was extremely well flavored and worth every penny. My husband ordered a larger breakfast with pancakes which I of course stole a bite of and they were AMAZING! We are trying to make a trip there at least once a month now with how much we enjoyed it. Eh, it's okay. They're burgers used to be nice and juicy, but now they're dry and full of lettuce and other vegetables. I would've just ordered a salad if I wanted one between two buns.
