I stopped by The Runway Cafe with two friends as our first stop before spending the day at Sequoia National Park. We visited on a Saturday morning and had to wait outside for about 10 minutes before a table opened up, which honestly made sense once we saw how busy the place was. The food ended up being exactly what I wanted before a long day of hiking. I ordered the Breakfast Bowl, which came with a half order of biscuits and gravy, one egg, and two sausage links. The portion was perfect for me since I don't like a huge breakfast, but it was still really filling and tasted great. The service was excellent. Our server was super kind and friendly to me and my friends, and the whole experience felt very welcoming. It had that small-town breakfast spot vibe where it feels like all the locals come to start their day, and even as visitors we felt right at home. The ambiance really adds to the charm. The dining area is a medium-sized room packed with as many tables and chairs as it can fit, and every seat was filled. It felt lively in the best way and showed how popular the place is. The restaurant is also located at a small airport, which makes the setting outside pretty cool and unique. Overall, the food and atmosphere were perfect for a breakfast stop. That one meal kept me fueled through our visit to Sequoia including an 8-mile hike, which honestly surprised me. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Food: the flavors are incredible! Omelets are fluffy and juicy, very easy to eat and it makes a great combo with their salsa. The hash browns are crispy on the outside. Onion rings are fresh and the sweet taste linger within your mouth, but it's a bit greasy. Service: the staff is sweet and nice. One thing bothers us is that he check is handwritten and when we pay with credit card the amount didn't add up. They didn't mention any credit card fees which is weird. Ambiance: we searched online and found this place and the moment we arrived we understood why it's called "The Runway" as it is literally located next to an airplane runway and the interiors are amazing! Service was very good. The restaurant on an airstrip is full of locals and everyone knows each other. Prices are a little high for what you get but options are limited in this area. I had a chili omelet with house potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Both the potatoes and the gravy were under seasoned. I felt like Gordon Ramsey "This is bland!" But when I added salt to the potatoes, it changed everything. They were delicious especially when dipped in the gravy. I would stop here again on the way to the park to try something else. Wow! I was truly impressed by the delicious breakfast! The homemade sauces and yams were fantastic, and the omelets were filling and full of flavor. My hash browns were perfectly crisp, just as I requested. Our server, Charnay, was informative and kind. She ensured our coffee was always full and checked on us regularly throughout our dining experience. Charnay made great recommendations and even brought me a sample of their hollandaise sauce to try! I will definitely be returning for their Benedict. The interior is small but has plenty of seating, and the outdoor area is shaded with a cooling station right next to the tables. At first, I was apprehensive about a café beside an airstrip, but upon arriving, we were nothing but happy. Ample parking, no wait time (we went early), and the staff were lovely. Best authentic American breakfast and brunch spot near Sequoia! All the dishes were delicious, and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant has a unique location--right next to an airplane runway! The interior is filled with aviation-themed decor, which adds to the charm. We stopped here on our way back from Sequoia and it really hit the spot! There was a little bit of a wait because it was Sunday morning, but they had benches to sit at. The people working there were super friendly, attentive, and kind. We had the bacon avocado and cheddar omelette and meat lover omelette and they were so good. Honestly, I was not impressed with the food,especially after reading many nice reviews, and this is the main reason I wanted to experience this place, which was not available when I lived in Woodlake. A very delightful cafe! We really enjoy visiting cafes and diners attached to smaller airports and this one did not disappoint. I hadn't been to Woodlake in decades. Great view of the runway from everywhere inside the restaurant. We didn't see any planes land or take off this time. Friendly greeting, we were directed to a clean and empty booth and our order was taken quickly. The full selection of diner breakfast and lunch items. I had one of their lighter appetite breakfast plates which was perfect! French toast slice, two slices of bacon and a scrambled egg-delicious! Ben enjoyed his BLT and iced tea. Great coffee. The food was really really good tasted very fresh and seasoned. The place was really crowded but was seat within 10 mins and food did not take as long as would expect with so many people. The place is at a small active airport and although we didn't see any planes leave or land there were a few planes parked there with a hangar open and showing a couple planes. While on the RV triop from hell, we stopped at the runway cafe for breakfast during Covid. We sat outside under a nice patio and had great service. What a pleasant surprise. Food was very good, kind of middle of the road, basic breakfast food but cooked very well. I love the (frozen) chicken fried steak w/ gravy and the hashed browns were cooked to perfection. Scrambled eggs were nice and fluffy and the breakfast potatoes were crisp and delish. Look, this place is on an airport in the middle of nowhere so it was so refresshing to see a group of people (chefs, servers etc.) that care about what they are doing. Also a big plus, you get to see planes landing and taking off! I love that! Thank you Runway Cafe. You were some of the best memories of our 124 degree trip to Sequoia. read more
