A quaint and popular family-owned restaurant in Tulare touted for serving the best menudo in town. Mike and Sophia are husband and wife, the restaurant co-owners, and they handle all the food preparation, cooking (with the help of their son), greeting, and serving. Therefore, they bring all the recipes from home into the kitchen and every dish. I will concur the menudo, a peppery, very flavorful soup made with cow tripe, was delicious. The broth was rich and delicately flavored with chili peppers and the tripe tasted fresh and clean, while cooked thoroughly. Starchy hominy in the soup, along with a choice of flour or corn tortillas, adds to the heartiness of this comforting meal. The lemon wedges, diced onions, and chopped cilantro helps eliminate any traces of the pungent taste and smell of the tripe. I recommend ordering it if you have a palate for offal meats and enjoy soup for breakfast or lunch. The owners told me the other must-try dish is their chile verde - a slow-cooked pork stew in green tomatillo and pepper sauce (salsa verde). It is another traditional Mexican dish that is among my favorites. The meat was very tender as you would expect from the slow-cooked process. There was not that explosion of flavors in the sauce but it was still delicious and I would order it again. I recommend the dish I ordered. The Mexican plate is a combination of meat taco, cheese enchilada, and chile verde. It is served with beans and rice, and warm tortillas for the chile verde. Interestingly, the taco shell was a soft, but deep-fried corn tortilla, giving it a unique crunch and crispy exterior and a soft interior. I liked what they did with the taco shell. It was a fusion of street taco and the Americanized "gringo" taco, complete with ground or shredded beef (or chicken), chopped lettuce, shredded cheese, and diced tomato. The dish needed a little kick from the salsa but it was, nonetheless, an enjoyable, hearty dish. It is a good choice for those who want to try several of their popular dishes. The warm hospitality will make your dining experience even more special. Complimentary chips and homemade salsa with your dine-in meal. The restaurant is a popular spot for breakfast and lunch, open from 9 AM to 2 PM, Tuesday through Sunday (closed on Monday). read more

Mickey V's is my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Tulare/Visalia. It is a family owned business with delicious food. My go is to is the chimichanga. The staff is very friendly. It has a down home atmosphere. The only negative is, they aren't open for dinner. They also serve Pepsi! read more

I just moved to Visalia 3 weeks ago. My daughter and my niece took me and sister to Mikey V for Mother's Day. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. What impressed me more than anything was the service. Greeted right away. Very attentive. Owner (I think she was at least) offered us a free sample of her chili verde and it was delicious. I assumed they were new because how passionate they were about their food and service but come to find out they have been open for more than 16 years Food was great. Only issue is they don't accept Apple Pay. Admittedly they're very old school here. Flour Tortillas were old and crunchy definitely not homemade If you want as closed to home cooked food this is a safe bet. This place is very small, so it does get loud. The staff is very nice, and friendly. The wait time wasn't too long. I ordered the muendo and let me tell you, definitely a 10/10 for their muendo. I was disappointed that the chips were store bought at first but paired with salsa it was tasty & went well together. I don't like that they have can sodas, I love a good fountain drink! The Chile verde was amazing but wish there was more pork on it he burrito. The chicken compuesta was tasty and the toppings were fresh. I was a little skeptical when I found out we were eating here at my MIL's request. For one it was Tex-Mex/New México style food which I'm not a huge fan of, but this place has something great going for them. They've been around for a long time and I can see why. It's very home cooking stylish and they take much pride in their small menu. For my lunch I had the enchiladas suizas which were filled with very tasty lightly grilled chicken. I honestly thought I was going to get bland boiled chicken but that wasn't the case here. The sauce was tasty but not over the top. The balance of the queso fresco and sauce was so enjoyable. Every bite was completely delicious. The rice was a little different but it too was good. I'm not a huge fan of beans so I didn't finish them. They were good but by personal choice that was the only thing I left on my plate. Judging by the silence and scraping of plates, I can tell the rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. Definitely a hidden gem! Saw that they had "great menudo" and they weren't lying. It was sooooo delicious, super authentic and the closest to homemade that I've had in a long time. Came in with my mom on July 7. My mother ordered a chicken salad I had the turkey sandwich with fresh fruit to go. My first time there but not my mom's she enjoyed her salad I enjoyed my meal as well sandwich was something I could have made at home but next time I'll try something they are known for. Customer service I was satisfied owners were nice friendly people. Decor was calm vintage cafe style, everything was clean and well put together. Gave them a 3 but I'll give them another opportunity to change my rating by trying something new on that menu, I wasn't blown away sorry. read more

Review is only for menudo. I was disappointed since I always hear how they have the best menudo in Tulare. I was not impressed at all. Broth has no flavor besides salt and I can tell hominy was straight from a can. In order to give a 5 star for menudo I expect hand made tortillas and hominy that's not from a can. Maybe will try other stuff on menu in future, but not the menudo. read more

This place was awesome! Total gem, in the heart of Tulare! I met up with some friends today for Sunday Breakfast. We both had Service Dogs. (Diabetic Alert Dog & Autism Service Dogs) They we're very welcoming. Food was fantastic & the service was wonderful! Tiffany was are waitress. She was so attentive and super kind to us especially my son who has Autism. She displayed so much patience and even gave him a pen and paper to draw on. The owners (husband and wife) are very friendly. They're willing to make you satisfied with your choices of dishes even if it is a little alteration from he menu such as red sauce instead of chille verde or chicken instead of pork or beef. It was served with 2 over eat eggs on top - you could really discern flavors , complimentary and distinct. The pork flair of the burrito was outstanding. Lived in Tulare most my life and haven't tried Mikey V's ever. Finally came and I can honestly say we regret not coming sooner. Food was great and the service was amazing. We got seated right away, server brought us chips and salsa and we ordered. Once we finished eating, we learned our server was actually the owner.
