Popped in for a medical seminar. They served a number of choices. I opted for an easy go to. Taco Salad. Boy was i definitely surprised with the presentation not to mention the taste. 8/27 Family Breakfast with In-Laws while they visiting. Was greeted immediately and sat quickly table of 5. Wasn't too busy of a mid morning breakfast. Katrina was our server and she was great. Took our orders quick and food didn't take too long to come out . I had the classic eggs Benedict. It was decent not the best I have had but still good . Everyone seemed to enjoy their food as well. Of the two locations I do prefer the layout of this establishment over their other counterpart. (They have a cool gift section) The service was great, and accommodating. They were fairly busy and our server checked on us regularly. I ordered the bear's choice which comes with two pancakes, waffle, or two French toast, bacon, ham, or sausage, and two eggs made to order. I ordered two eggs over medium and I chose ham. It was an up charge, but I selected the cinnamon roll french toast and it was delicious. Highly recommend. The only negative I'd note is that the portions seemed smaller than the other locations I've tried. The eggs and ham were certainly smaller/less when I compared my photos of the same meal. Perhaps this was just the day I went, but certainly worth noting. read more

Well the place was clean i will Give them that. My clam chowder was lukewarm and my corn muffin was microwaved to hardness perfection. Beware the mac and cheese is not the kids kind. My daughter immediately saw that the picture on the kids menu did not match what was on the table. Waitress seems kind of irritated. My pot roast had spots that were hard and weird tasting. My corn on the cob was the best thing i ate. Never had such poor quality food at a Black Bear Diner. The service is always great and the interior and bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Certain food items are hit or miss. Such as the waffle, I was disappointed with my last visit. The waffle tasted more like a pancake. And I wish they had better coffee, so sadly I avoid it. Everyone works so hard to keep things clean and moving as quickly as possible. We've never had to wait for a table any longer than ten minutes and we've always had a great experience with the staff. Their parmesan crusted burger with cheddar cheese and a side of bacon is so good! I've been craving it lately along with biscuits and gravy. I'll continue to go back, but might hold off on getting repeat items for a bit. That's okay, there's plenty other things I haven't tried yet. read more

Black Bear Diner is always a Reno favorite. We stopped for breakfast this morning and I will admit, it's been a while since we've gone out to breakfast and an even longer while since we've been to Black Bear. At any rate, breakfast was served hot and tasty. Our server, Teresa, was very helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic. She promptly took our beverage and breakfast order and kept our beverages filled. It wasn't very busy this morning so we got seated fairly easily. I had the two eggs over easy with waffle and their famous sausage patties. The waffle could've been a little crispier, because it was a little on the soft side. Teresa even served me extra syrup, which I appreciated and didn't need to ask for. The eggs were perfect and so was the sausage. The hubs had the chicken fried steak burrito from their special list. He always enjoys a good chicken fried steak in general, being from the Midwest, and his burrito did not disappoint. He said it was quite tasty and he would order it again. It's always rather noisy in the black bear, but that's OK because if you talk up a little bit, you can still have a good conversation. And we always seem to encounter friends when we eat there and today was no different. The Dennis Family was just leaving, as we were being served our breakfast, so we chatted for a bit before they left to begin their day. We had forgotten how much we enjoyed going out to breakfast, so we're going to start eating breakfast out at least once a week and Black Bear will be on our list of places to return and enjoy. read more

We love Black Bear Diner for breakfast on a good ol' weekday! We've been going traditionally once a year now for a few years every September. The servings are perfect size and always consistent. It is very family-friendly and has a fun rustic decor. And a plethora of Black Bears. The food here is always so comforting and the coffee is pretty good for a restaurant. To celebrate the day-before-the-last-day-of-school, my kid chose her ultimate fave restaurant :) there was no wait because it's a rainy weeknight :) which was good for us. We got seated fast and got our drinks and our orders in. I got the Bacon Blue Burger and it was amazing! The caramelized onion!!! + blue cheese sauce!!! The burger was cooked perfectly and the flavors blended well. So, we have been the Black several times over the past year and I felt it was important to improve my review. We have enjoyed the visits, the food and the food servers did a excellent job. We had brunch at the Black Bear Diner's South Virginia location. When we entered the restaurant, it became apparent they were busy because most of the tables were already occupied and a couple of parties were waiting to be seated. Our 5-person party waited by the enforce a few minutes before the host seated us at one of the round tables at the back of the restaurant but as soon as we were seated, we noted the staff were openly complaining to the manager about their new handheld devices because it was processing orders incorrectly. The new system caused so much strife, the restaurant was a bit chaotic; our server, Suez kept apologizing and verbally announcing each entry she made back to us. Thankfully when our meal arrived, all our orders were correct and we were able to dine in peace. The food tasted good, each person in our party enjoyed their entrees, and overall we had a decent dining experience, despite the turmoil. read more

It has been years since I dined in at a Black bear diner and let alone this specific location. I forgot how good their food is here! We used to frequent the Sparks location the times I did. I forgot about their pies! How cold I forget when their chocolate cream pie was a pregnancy craving of mine with my youngest kid?! While running errands, my kids wanted pancakes and we left the house super early to run errands I didn't get a chance to make any. We decided on Black bear because they serve breakfast all day long. I ordered the tuna melt with fries and kids had their sprinkle pancakes. I had to steal a bite! Oh my goodness they were so good. We had to take a pie home and sorry not sorry. Great service and food with fair prices! I have to give their staff kudos for finding my cell and keeping it safe until my smart watch notified me down the road that my phone was disconnected and we back tracked back to the diner. We met for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. we had a great time, and food was perfect (granted, it is not fine dining and doesn't claim to be). But the eggs, potatoes and meats were absolutely perfect. I will return. The thing that made me scratch my head was a man while we were exiting had a firearm on his hip. This place is near a major Reno Casino. For three years, I lived just across the street. We never thought we were in a bad neighborhood. I won't judge the patron for open carry, but I don't know why. Well being frustrated I whipped a U turn in this parking lot and what did I see? those great bears. Hello Black Bear Diner...my morning is iff to great start. Not one. greatly limits our potential visits due to a vegan in our party . I don't think restaurant owners get this. So we visted this location on 9/1 my husband and I showed up later than the rest of our party but the waitress was told that 2 more people would be coming. the rest of the party put their orders in and were already eatting when we got there, we sat there for about 30 minutes before someone came to take our order, even after we said something to someone to please get our waitress it was still like 15 minutes before she showed up. once we finally put our order in and got our food, my potatoes were under cooked and basicly no cheese in my omelet, and waitrss never even came to check if everything was ok with our food, when we were ready for our check I had to again go hunt someone down, while the waitress was nice and pleasant the service and food sucked! read more

Went early in the morning this time and loved it! The open seating is fantastic when you arrive early. The food was excellent--I had the chicken egg scramble with chicken sausage. I do wish they offered turkey bacon or beef sausage, though. The pancakes were absolutely delicious, I would come back just for the pancakes alone.
