Well we've been on the road for 6 straight hours. Hungry and we decided to co ti ur just 11 miles further up north because we see on Yelp that there is a Black Bear Diner. Quality was very disappointing compared to other black bears I've been to. My fish was way over cooked and was probably frozen to begin with. The green beens tasted like they were from a can. However, the baked potato I had was not disappointing. Over all the wait service seemed all over the place. Our waiter we ended up with at the end was amazing! The platters are huge so you could share. The prices seem a little high but it's like that all over California from what I've experienced. Wow! What great service!! Our server, Johnathan, was so sweet and charming! He greeted us with a beaming smile and such a chipper attitude for 9pm on a Friday night. My husband asked for his hashbrowns extra crispy, and after I told him he can burn mine, he pardoned himself to run to tell the chef to get the hashbrowns cooking ahead of time so they would be good 'n ready by the time the rest of our food was prepared. Talk about going above and beyond!! The food was done in minutes flat! He stopped by to check on us, topped off our coffee for the pending road trip and even chatted with us a while. The whole experience felt so personal. We could hear the cooks bantering in the back and it seems like the entire crew has great chemistry together! Like they have fun working beside one another which is a really sweet sentiment. My husband and I loved the food and the pleasant atmosphere. Best Black Bear we've been to, hands down. Worst service ever!!! I usually love Black Bear Diners, but this one is not up to par with the others. Stopped for a "quick" lunch stop on the way from WA to So CA. First I noticed that the carpet was dirty and probably needs replacing and it isn't the nicest smelling place, but the worst part was the service. It took awhile for "Brittany" to get our drink order, then when our food was ready, I watched it sitting under the heat lamps for several minutes until she got around to bring it to our table. She was too busy chatting and socializing to deliver it when it was ready. Then I asked for mustard and she stopped to do a few other tasks before bringing it. The real kicker was when we asked for the check and she proceeded to fill waters, start a pot of coffee, and chat with a couple of guys at the counter. We finally got up and went to the cashier to get our check and a to-go cup for my iced tea. I am okay with friendly servers, but they can't let their socializing get in the way of good customer service. I will not be returning to this location. Not horrid but definitely not amazing. The food however was ABSOLUTELY gross. I ordered a steak medium rare. It came really well done and was super salty. The mashed potatoes were also salty and pretty gross. The veggies were bland. My mother in law and sister both ordered the patty melt. When they arrived, my sisters melt was missing a patty on one side and both were greasy tasteless masses on some sad looking bread. The fries also were sad limp little spuds that didn't even taste better with ketchup. None of us even got halfway through our meal before leaving without taking our leftovers. If you are thinking of stopping here...don't. You are better off going to jack in the box. The food there at least is edible. read more

Gross! Went in for breakfast on a Saturday and it was very busy as to be expected. I decided to go with the corned beef hash and my boyfriend went with an omelet. When my order came it was just a pile of corned beef with a side of hash browns. Usually a hash consists mixture of onions, peppers, potatoes, and corned beef. Even the hash browns were bad, no flavor and undercooked. My boyfriends omelet was average but nothing special. We had to ask for water 3 times and my orange juice was warm, very warm.
