Breakfast is my favorite. Great service, hot coffee, and good food first thing in the morning is the perfect start to a day. When traveling through Redding I needed a place that had a big enough parking lot that we could comfortably park and maneuver a 27ft boat AND had outside seating since we had our service dog. I yelped and googled and found this place to have a huge lot and outside seating based off old pictures. When we pulled up we seen that there were no more outside chairs. While the pup is able to be inside, he enjoys being outside and so do we. I asked the waitress about it and she said they had to remove the outside seating :( In any case they sat us in a comfortable corner inside and were so kind and amazingly accommodating. How about this table by the window? Coffee for you both?' Well, YES! When greeted like that, how does one refuse??? Large menu with lots of delicious choices, but we settled on our "usual" diner selections. Hubby: bacon, eggs over medium, white toast and fries from the French. Me: bacon, eggs scrambled, pancakes. We were both happy with our choices. Portions were generous, food served hot, cakes from scratch, and bacon had meat, not just fat. I had also requested a dry buttermilk biscuit on the side because I haven't had a fresh, made from scratch, biscuit in a minute. That was the only miss. We both felt it was drier then should be, but I suppose that's why people drown the biscuits in gravy. Not a fan of that. Coffee was continually refreshed by any person who grabbed the pot, owner or servers. All were friendly and asked if we were 'still doing good', which we were. We were on a road trip to redwoods and stopped here for breakfast. We had 3 adults and 3 kids in a group. I won't lie, the area this place is located and its looks from the outside, look very sketchy. But don't let that fool you! When we came in, they have already set up the table for a group of 6. I'm giving this place a generous 4 stars. I had never been to Redding and I had just moved my mother and youngest sister up there and the morning me and my boyfriend left we wanted to go to a family breakfast place. I was excited about the Waffles. We enter, we were greeted warmly, the staff were dressed cute for Valentines Day, and the ambiance is just like any rural hometown breakfast joint. I had the waffles and my boyfriend had an omelet. However it was a shame they didn't have any gluten free waffles. My boyfriend has celiac and can't have anything with wheat in it. He was really looking forward to some homemade gluten free waffles. But he enjoyed his omelet and I enjoyed the waffles. Our server was super sweet and quick. The other servers helped as well. The Restaurant Manager was very friendly. They provide a very friendly atmosphere. The only thing that I have to say that made me feel a little indifferent was where we sat. We were seated at a booth which sit VERY low to the grown and I almost tripped trying to sit. Not a huge deal but it caught us both off guard. Once we were seated I immediately noticed all the handwritten notes posted behind the Bar area. There were so many and in big bold letters it was very hard to miss. I couldn't help but read them, and they were all written to the staff. They were all written very condescendingly. Some even threatening corrective action. If I worked there and constantly saw those I would be incredibly stressed out and afraid to come into work. Those women working were doing such a great job and reading those indicating that they don't felt strange being a guest. It was off-putting. I've worked in the service industry and putting that expectation on your staff in a negative way puts a damper on mural. It has an adverse effect. If you need to correct behavior with your staff, don't write it in big bold letters for the world to see. It made the experience eating there feel awkward. I felt like I was eating at a place with unhappy staff, especially when they are so pleasant. I would maybe have a communication log or something that keeps notes like that discreet and not open for the public to read. It also makes the area look messy. It would look cleaner and more presentable if it was kept somewhere else. Needless to say, I had a great experience. I gave a good tip to our waitress and the 4 stars I gave are all for the waitress staff because it's hard work and it would be nice if they were shown more appreciation. I get the feeling they don't and that's sad. Anyway I'll be back next time I come up to visit my mom and sis. Great place for waffles and a fun and friendly hardworking staff. read more
