The food was good although one dish was lacking some key ingredients to it. We ordered the loaded crepes and they just gave up empty crepes with strawberries on top. Other than that, the environment was great, we had a 19 month old with us and even though she did what a toddler does and makes messes they were very nice about it all. Stephanie was our waitress and she was really considerate with the toddler, she made sure we had everything we needed at all times and she was very nice. Thank you for the good experience read more

They should stick to breakfast only! This was the second time we tried Black Bear Diner for dinner and will NEVER go back! Honestly I can't even describe how disgusting the mashed potatoes and gravy were. The chicken fried steak was hard as a rock and cold. The server was not interested in working that night. Salad came after dinner was halfway done. Cheese cake served with no topping, waiter could not be found to get a fork. I could go on and on....just so gross read more

We were in town last year for an antique show that we stay over for four days. This Diner was right on our way from hotel to show. We stopped on day one and we were so impressed with food, service, and cleanliness that we continued to eat many meals over that four days at the Black Bear Diner on 12th St in Ogden. We were so impressed that we absolutely looked forward to it again and here we are on our way home again after all the good meals and great service with no complaints whatsoever. They fed us and took care of us above and beyond with such hospitality. Great crew for real! read more

We came for breakfast on a quiet weekday mid-morning, so after the breakfast rush was over. Our waitress did a really great. My beef came when we went to check out. My mom went first in line, and I was right behind her. However, while I was standing right there--card and receipt in hand--the cashier doesn't say a word but walks away. Turns out that he felt it was more important to get the door dash's order instead. Yep, walked back to the kitchen and put their order together. Is it more important to get a door dash order ready than help a customer who bothered to actually come into the restaurant, pay for a meal while there, tip the waitress, etc? I sure found out the priority that this restaurant has. Just letting the public know you WILL BE TREATED LIKE A SECOND CLASS CITIZEN because you actually came into the restaurant rather than ordered door dash. read more

Black Bear Diner is a great home-cooking style restaurant and we love coming in. They have fantastic breakfast offerings and the portions they bring out to you are giant! You will NOT go hungry here and may even need to share a dish or take some home to enjoy later. Fun interior with dark wood and accents. It's like eating in a cabin in the woods. Good times. Their lunch and dinner meals are excellent as well. I particularly enjoyed the Tri-tip steak sandwich this last time around. Their chowder isn't great, unfortunately, but otherwise everything else was great. They have their own steak sauce (tastes similar to A1) and a selection of 3 different bottled hot sauces at each table (mild to habanero hot), which we loved. Great service and friendly waitresses round out the experience here. Stop in if you have a hungry belly and are in the mood for some tasty home-cooked goodness! read more

My adult son had the cheese burger basket. Basic cheeseburger with a MOUNTAIN of fries. I had the turkey/bacon club with onion rings. I asked for sour dough bread, but got white bread. i asked for avocado and got none. I think there may have been 1 piece of bacon on my whole sandwich. I got 5 greasy onion rings. Basic food with a waitress that CONSTANTLY interrupted. We won't be back. read more

Disappearing workers. Waiter disappearing when my food was ready to be served, it sat under heat lamps until the manager came out from the back office. I sat and watched my food and waited for it to be delivered. Then again Disappearing Cashier. I sat waiting to pay as well as were people waiting to get seated. Told Manager who by the way was missing most of the time also. He cashed me out. I received a very small discount and when he saw I tipped a small amount his glare was quite amusing. Food was good but cold. Server was good when he was there. Other waitress refilled my drink during my waiter's disappearance. Who knows where hostess and Cashier went to. read more

The food was delicious, the service was great and quick. We were in a hurry and had to be in and out in 20 minutes, which wasn't a problem at 7am on a Saturday. I docked them a star only because they used to have a gluten free bun (no bread available, just bun), but they no longer carry it. This was a bummer since I eat mainly gluten free but the scramble more than made up for it in deliciousness. read more

Place was great and exactly what you should expect. I believe the servers name was Amelia. She was very sweet and very friendly! Keeping my coffee warm and even offering to make my son and I drinks for the road. I'd go back for sure based on good food that came quick and a great server! read more

Food: I had the Bacon/Eggs/Pancakes with extra side of bacon I always get. Honestly you can't go wrong here, the food is consistently good. The Bacon is the best in the Diner Segment in Utah. And their Pancakes and waffles are really great! Service: The server was very nice, and QUICK! Wow the food came out fast that night. Ambiance: Black Bear is usually pretty clean, it's folksy... Sometimes you go in after a rush period and they are trying to get the place cleaned up, but we're used to that in family style restaurants. Summary: Great place for a family or friends breakfast/dinner. read more

The cooks here have no idea what an over easy vs medium vs soft scrambled eggs are , And they can't cook bacon to order so don't bother trying to order a breakfast how you want it .. They will just throw everything on a plate with undercooked potatoes and serve it to you as breakfast read more

They need to find a better cook, and the waitress is kind of mouthy was not too happy with the service or the food

We ate here once a few years ago and the food was ok but the service was bad. Tonight my husband wanted to try it again so we did. Things started out fine and after we got our food, mine was so bland, we saw our waitress once. We saw other waitresses and they would just walk by. We finally got up, without a check and went to the cashier. We told her what happened and she said she was sorry but she noticed the girl was upset. I get that but why didn't someone else take over for her. Never again. read more

This Restaurant has the best Oatmeal breakfast. The service was great and the Server excellent

Have eaten here twice with a co-worker who is gluten-intolerant, and both times have had Rhonda as our server. First meal consisted of the steak & eggs breakfast, the special that day, with sliced tomatoes subbed for biscuit and eggs scrambled for both of us, fruit for him, hash browns for me. Our steaks were done just as we requested, and tomatoes were good considering it was well past tomato season. Only improvement would have been my "crispy" hash browns were only crispy on the outside; inside was limp. Sat at the "bar" at this visit. Second meal was a late lunch, this time at a table. It took a little longer to get service and our food. Seemed to be short handed and a lot of the tables needed bussing. Rhonda remembered us, which was nice. He had the ham & egg breakfast, again w/tomatoes and fruit (Rhonda remembered to offer tomatoes,) but eggs over easy. I opted for the Cashew Chicken Caesar Salad, sub bleu cheese dressing. Salad was huge with a lot of chicken, however, about 1/4 way into it I realized there were no wonton strips. I asked Rhonda and she asked the kitchen & was told they were out of them. She also said she didn't even have croutons to offer. The wonton strips were one of my decision factors because I like the texture. Grabbed a gluten-free brownie to go, which was AMAZING! 4-stars because of Rhonda's service, steaks cooked right, portion sizes to price and amazing gluten-free brownies. NOT 5-stars because not adequately staffed and lack of communication between kitchen & waitstaff. Will return. read more

Great service. Food was exactly what we ordered. We enjoyed our breakfast. I had the veggie omelet. It was l well done. Pancakes were ok.

Not sure I'll come back here.. they tucked us back in a corner and sort of forgot about us. What was meant to be a quick in and out bite turned into nearly an hour and a half. What was more upsetting is we really just wanted a healthy refreshing bite and couldn't find a single healthy thing (not one real salad) on the menu. read more

Food is always good. The staff at this location was amazing. Can't go wrong with BBD!

The food is not the same as we have experienced in the past. The food arrived nearly cold and not piping hot like before. Poached eggs were also undercooked. Service, however, was great and the waitress profusely apologized for our experience. Unfortunately, Ogdenites deserve a better place to eat breakfast than Black Bear. read more

The food is so good and cheap the service was great would definitely recommend and breakfast all day

Honestly had a great time here. We came here really late after some mini golf and they were closing in roughly 20 minutes. They treated us like they had all night to help us (u less behind the scenes they cussed us) haha. Seriously though our waitress chatted and took her time and made sure our order was perfect and hot. She was really good. The true downside however was my food. Not everyone in my parties food, my food. I ordered salmon and so did someone else in my party and it was soooo dry. Like so so dry. You could tell it was microwaved and that it was just completely under seasoned and over cooked. I guess that's what you get ordering fish at a traditionally not fish place. I will be back but I honestly wouldn't order the fish again even if they gave it to me for free. read more

Service was very poor. Waited 20 mins before server came to our table. Didn't have a lot the items on the menu. Would not recommend this location. read more

We had a table of 7 and came close to close. We were still greeted with a smile and had a great time. Our server Jovay was amazing and approachable. We had a group of 13 and our food took over an hour to show up and it was cold and not very well prepared. The waitress did acknowledge the lateness of the food and did knock $100 off our bill. I think a bunch of us got sick from the food. I don't think I'll be going back. read more
