Went to this location early Sunday 11/6. This location is rather busy on the weekends with large families and groups, so your wait time will be longer than thirty minutes. There were a lot of issues with this location. We signed in as a party of two and two gentlemen that came in 10 minutes after us were seated first. The hostess noticed the issue and was apologetic, so that was solved. Our server was really great. she was very friendly and helpful she took our order and brought us our drinks. She mentioned that they were out of mugs, so my coffee took a while. I'm patient so I didn't mind, I work in the restaurant industry so I know things happen when she brought my coffee she mentioned that they didn't have spoons so i was given a fork to stir my coffee. I didn't mind either since I like black coffee and no need to stir lol At this point I felt bad for our server to have to deal with this horrible restaurant management. We ordered country fried steak and a grizzly plate over easy eggs. "Over easy" eggs looked like they were just flashed the whites were not coagulated at al. My over easy were burned. The country fired steak was burnt, and it looked like it was smothered in gravy to hide the fact that it was burned. We mentioned it to the server and she was apologetic and sent it back to the kitchen. We received our food back and instead of making a new plate, they slapped on over medium eggs on our original plate. At this point the country fried steak, and grits were cold and out eggs over cooked on the same plate. We spoke to the manager to point out the issues. We were not complaining more like trying to help the manager improve the quality of food and and service, since I manage a restaurant myself in San Francisco I felt like helping him out. The manager basically blamed the server and the kitchen and called the server a liar for telling us they didn't have mugs. We over heard her say it to several tables, so it was not only us. One star for the manager but the server was really great. Avoid this location go to Bills Cafe instead. read more

I am a regular customer on this restaurant and was not treated like a customer. My family and I went for a breakfast. After we finished our food, we decided to have a little conversation and suddenly a server interrupted us saying that he needed our table. I was surprised because no body communicated to us that we had time to leave the restaurant. It will be nice if the management let customers know that they are not allowed to stay after they finish their meal. And they might be kicked out. read more

Placed a pickup order for a chili bowl w/ cornbread and a cookies & cream shake because I'm recovering from surgery and can't really chew. I got there exactly at my estimated pickup time and was told that they were still working on my order and would need a few minutes. Not ideal, but not a huge problem. These things do happen. About 10 minutes go by and I'm starting to get a little irritated, since I just want my food so I can get back to medication and bed rest. At this point, the same person tells me that they realized they're out of vanilla ice cream and that I'll need to pick something else for my shake. I'm not that happy about it, but I go with it and hope that it'll be done with soon enough. More time passes and a different employee asks me if I've been helped. By the time I finally get my food, I've waited there for 20 minutes for a simple pick-up order. No apology is ever given and when I get home, I realize that they got my order wrong (no cornbread). The shake was also not fully blended, as large Oreo chunks were still in there. That's not necessarily anyone's fault, as I never communicated to them that it was important the shake be blended up well (but I made the mistake of assuming it would just happen). I ended up tossing the shake into my own blender and mixing it up until I could swallow it. Overall, the employees I interacted with were reasonably courteous (and the food wasn't bad), but I'm not happy with the service I received. It kind of defeats the purpose of ordering ahead if you have to wait for 20 minutes to get your food (and if they're not even going to get your order right). I'd be in more of a forgiving mood if it had been busy, but it wasn't. I doubt I'll be back. read more

I ordered half of a sandwich and bowl of soup. I didn't like the soup. It tasted like it came out of a can. The half of sandwich was 1 slice, yes 1 slice of Ham, lettus, a slice of tomato and mayo. The waitress asked, how was everything. I did tell her that I didn't like the soup, know I didn't eat it. I really thought she might have offered me something else. But she did not. Food is very tasty. My issue is the size and costs of the meal. Way to large and way to expensive when breakfast for two cost $60. Coffee, orange juice and a omelette $30? Crazy. This location is always consistent with their quality and the portions are more than enough for one person to enjoy. Their theme is great, you definitely know where you are at when you eat here and it's pretty cool that they have a small selection of gift shop type items for purchase. You aren't limited to just breakfast when you eat here which is nice because sometimes you may want a burger when everyone else wants breakfast items like fully loaded pancakes. The burgers are well prepared and come with a decent side of fries, but the club sandwich is always filling and better than most other chain establishments. read more

Let me truly be honest about our experience in this location Milpitas, we came here all the way from Cupertino - after reading the yelp reviews our expectation was high or at least the truth. This Black Bear gets tons of kudos from me for their excellent service, and "black bear" big portions! Located on a busy street on Calaveras, this BBD offers country-style food in a country-style setting. I really just wanted to make this review so I can shout out to waitress Maria, who has served us there on multiple visits. Each time she is warm, and able to make conversation with patrons (yes, I sometimes eavesdrop on nearby booths lol don't judge me!) as if they're her family. During our last visit, I overheard the booth behind us insist on paying the bill before Maria took her break just so she could get her tip. See! I'm not the only one recognizing her efforts! Management listen up! In our last visit here, there was a mistake in the kitchen regarding my order in which I ordered country potatoes vs hashbrowns. She promptly went back to the kitchen and brought out a huge plate of potatoes, not even expecting the hashbrowns on my plate back. They use hard dinner rolls instead of biscuits in their biscuits and gravy. I asked them about it and they said they knew these were using hard dinner rolls rather than biscuits; that this is what the higher ups provided them. You cannot substitute flaky biscuits with dinner rolls. Update: The staff believed they were instructed to use hard dinner rolls instead of biscuits, for biscuits and gravy. Nov 2021 7pm, Tuesday. Stay away for now. Very little help. No host and limited waiters. It took forever to get our order in - I had to stand up and get the waiter's attention and our order took over 30 mins to arrive. An eternity for a 4 yr old. It wasn't this bad previously but they are hurting with current environment. Management, give Edson some help. He's doing a kick butt job running this place like he owns it from register to host, server and expediter. He literally has six roles to run this ship. This has been are go to spot lately with the lil playa and the baby mama. It just never seems to disappoint and it is far superior than iHop or Denny's for our breakfast fix in my opinion. The best part is my son thinks all the bears inside the restaurant and outside are real, he's even given them names! Black Bear can accommodate large parties up to 12-14 people. There's a private lot so there's never an issue when it comes to parking. My favorite items: Chicken Fried Steak - OMFG, this is my go to and it danced circles around Denny's Country Fried steak (my ex). 3 eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit & 2 biscuits. Chicken Apple Sausage Scramble - egg whites, jack cheese, spinach, sautéed mushroom & avocado with 1 dry piece of wheat toast & fresh fruit. California Bacon Benedict - bacon, avocado, spinach, grilled tomato slices & 2 poached eggs covered in Hollandaise sauce FTW. The wait for the food is never long like some other places, you are in and out fast but you don't feel rushed like other breakfast places as the customer service is great. Went on a Sunday at noon. It was a bit busy but the staff handled it really well. Wait was 15-20 minutes as they originally quoted. We had Juanita as a server and she was great.
