The location of the store seems a little far away because it's in the corner by Safeway's gas station off to the side, so I imagine some people miss it. So keep an eye out for it next time you're in the mood for some hot subs. Chris, the owner, was so kind and explained everything to us. He was patient, informative, and professional. It's nice to see owners work at times and treat their customers so genuinely! So thank you, Chris! The store is honestly decorated so well. There's details everywhere on the wall, and it's all dedicated to San Jose culture and first responders. The ambiance felt local and cool. Now for the food, my husband ordered the Build Your Own Sub with Pastrami and it was delicious! I ordered their new and off the menu French Dip sub with aus ju and IT WAS SO GOOD. Highly recommend to get it now while they have it! Special notes: - All subs are served hot! - They have a hot sauce bar with unique sauces all leveled off from (1-10). 1 = mild and 10 = spiciest! The venue at the corner of a newer shopping plaza. There is a decent amount of seating inside and outside as well along with plenty of parking around. #Sandos: ~ Hook & Ladder - 3.5/5 The most basic one...I think. Smoked Turkey breast, Honey Ham, and melted Monterey Jack cheese, served with lettuce, tomato, onion, no mayo for me, and deli mustard with a pickle spear on the side. The sub were just okay for me, nothing amazing. ~ Firehouse Steak & Cheese (Large) - 3/5 Looks much better in the brochure. It's fine, tasted OK. Nothing to brag about, don't let the sando sit around. Make sure you finish it all at once or it will get soggy... may be its because of the oil and vinegar dressing I opted for? Not sure... The wheat bread is a tad too sweet for my liking and the white bread is just plain and flavorless. I do wish they provided options like Sourdough or Dutch Crunch, which also happen to be healthier for you. I have come here a few times when the sandwich craving hits and there is an enticing email deal that pops up. Their online ordering system is reliable and the food is always ready waiting for me on the shelf when I enter. I gravitate towards their Italian but the Hook and Ladder is quite tasty as well. I appreciate being able to add olives, caramelized onions, and banana peppers as they make the sandwiches complete. I also like their bread better than the other sandwich joints. Pricepoint wise it is a little expensive without any deals, but their deals do come around quite often. Will definitely repeat coming here. read more

Sis placed an order online for me to pick up this afternoon. I went in and the manager or possible owner noticed the sandwich had been made way too early from the pick up time. Great service -- the staff were super friendly and accommodating. The location's in a nice, clean plaza near Berryessa, and it was pretty quiet, which made for a pleasant stop. Loved the fire station theme inside -- fun decor and a cool vibe. There's even a hot sauce bar with tons of options! Tried a few and especially liked the honey and pineapple hot sauces. The sandwiches were okay overall. I didn't get to try one of them fresh -- it probably would've been much better then. Really great service, owner Chris actually helps daily operations and is respectful to his Latin employees! He speaks to them in Spanish which is really beautiful to see! Here is my two cents on the quality quantity and price at firehouse subs.. It was delivered in a timely matter by GrubHub.. Well, well firehouse subs are usually fresh and tasting pretty good .. There's nothing like old school! Everything is sliced so thin that you can almost see right through the items.. when I opened my sandwich to add a little extra I picked up the meat, and I got almost looked through to see my fingers. Though it was very lean a little extra fat will make it taste a whole much better and I'll put a little meat on your own bones.. These sandwiches are not like the way you used to do the real deal. They are scaled down to make it look like you're getting a whole lot, but you're not. . When I first tried fire house subs in Seattle it was actually pretty good. First time at this location and it just didn't hit the spot it was missing some lack of flavor. I think the high points about Firehouse subs, other than the uniquely firehouse themes in each restaurant, have go to be the sandwiches, which are well made, a bit warm, well sauced, and fairly tasty. I think for me, a restaurant that offers a sub sandwich has that bad rep because I've had too many Subway sandwiches and couldn't quite get behind Togo's or Quiznos because they just weren't that much better than Subway. Jersey Mike's, the same. But Firehouse seemed to have kicked things up a notch with their quality of sandwiches. The flavors being individually tasty dressed in their sauce wrapped together in nicely made sandwich bread that actually held the ingredients during my meal. It just felt like a solid sandwich that is so desperately missing from Subway. Cute little location, but tucked away on the far side of the Safeway plaza. I would choose firehouse over jersey mikes any day. If you'd like to skip the wait time, you can call in your order or place an order online. I've called in my order and my food was ready within the 10-15 minutes when I came to pick it up. This firehouse location opened up in a fairly new plaza that has a Safeway so it's a convenient location if you happen to also need to run to the grocery store for anything. For bread choices, they have white or wheat and I was surprised they don't have additional bread options beyond that. My sweetie loves to try them but personally for me, I like mild flavor. This place apparently started with some firemen but I am not clear about its unique history. It has a fire house theme with authentic clothing, equipment and photos on display. They have a rewards program that is also quite generous as well. Came by this morning and was greeted by the staff so attentive and polite. Prices depends on the size from mini to large which is one I chose the medium size cold Italian sandwich with all the fresh ingredients along with Italian grilled chicken salad lots of veggies mixed with salami, ham, pepperoni and provolone cheese and for drinks a bottle of lemonade and chips. Went for the first time tonight. Been see the commercials and the subs looked delicious. So I figured i would try it we order two 12" subs on steak and cheese and the other was a bacon lettuce and tomato, ranch sub. Both were extremely over prices over $40 for two subs ( crazy)! Got home and was so disappointed i asked for garlic white bread didn't get it also added mushrooms. I was sooo salty and had so much mayonnaise. It wasn't small or too big. Just the right size. All the ingredients were fresh and the bread was so super soft. The drink had plenty of carbonation. For my personal tastes, the Firehouse franchise leans too sweet and sauced/condiments by default. This price is on the high side, making it disappointing that with each bite - bread, shredded lettuce, and sauces were at the forefront. The meat and cheese was largely overpowered. And it seems even the savory sandwiches have a sweet profile. Even the Firehouse "hot" sauce is more like a sweet bbq sauce. #1 ingredient is ketchup which includes corn syrup as is, and #2 ingredient is...more corn syrup! It'd be nice to have a legit hot sauce option. I swear I left and had a lingering sweet flavored coating in my mouth long after. That said, the sweet taste is probably a plus for a lot of people, so you may enjoy that. Segue to the great things... Service was super friendly and you can tell they care about this location. The super positive sense of community and charity is fantastic and made me feel good about eating there. Though I wasn't a fan of the hot sauce flavor, it had a nice story behind it. My son and I went to try the new Firehouse Subs that opened recently in San Jose across from the Flea Market. This location is a tad smaller than the one in Fremont that we typically go to, but it seems to be doing well based upon the number of customers we saw. This location should do well, especially if it's as good as the Fremont location. We both enjoyed a New York Steamer sandwich. I enjoyed a medium, while my son had a large. I used my Firehouse points to get his large for free. I always enjoy the pickle that they offer with each sandwich. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. There is ample parking too. This location is tucked next to the Safeway gas station. I think this location will do well, since there aren't many sandwich places nearby. read more
