It was lunchtime so I stopped in to get the special hot pastrami sandwich, corned beef sandwich and a side of beef ravioli. The service was okay and the ambiance was your typical Italian deli offering wines, cheese, meats, etc. The ornamentation was of interest to view with a lot of football memorabilia. The pastrami sandwich lacked the smokiness and salty pepper. I thought the thousand island dressing was a bit funky but it did add flavor to the meat. The corned beef wasn't savory at all. Yes, both meats are similar, but both were extremely bland. The beef raviolis were a disappointment. Now I understand the highlight of a ravioli should be just that, but sorry, it was mush, not pillow like. There was no constancy. No chewing required. The sauce was not to my liking-it was like eating tomato sauce with sugar. To sweet! Sorry, La Villa, I prefer a more savory garlicky Italian herby flavor for my Italian palette. read more

Both times I've had this place I was crazy stressed out and having a wild day but from the moment you enter this establishment you feel like you're home. The smells magically heal you and the food is a comforting hug! Things move quick, but grab your number and be ready to order. I recommend getting the lunch special (usually under $20) but also they're always willing to do mini scoops for you. For example I like the potato salad and will get a bit of that and a stuffed mushroom on the side. So yummy! Also love the seating outside is great! Will be back time and time again! read more

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and found parking in their parking lot adjacent to their building. There was a long line/wait. We ordered the meat and eggplant arancini's. I ordered the chicken ravioli and my fiancé ordered the pastrami sandwich. The chicken ravioli was good; I tasted the herbs in every bite. I enjoyed the meat arancini the most; it was very flavorful. The eggplant arancini was good; almost floral at first. We also ordered the cannoli's, I think it was my first time trying this dessert so I didn't have anything to compare it to but I liked the texture. The ambiance was chill for the most part. IMHO I've always wanted to try a sandwich from La Villa. Yesterday was my chance, when I thought it was early enough to beat the crowd. There were maybe three customers ahead of me, when I heard someone screaming "number 34!" I realized, hey, maybe I need a number before being served! I found the "Take-A-Number" ticket dispenser on the red pole in the front of the store! I enjoyed looking around the establishment checking out all the yummy food choices while I waited. Next visit, I'll try a dessert! When it was my turn, I asked what the most popular sandwich was. "The Chris Combo". So, I ordered the Chris Combo on Dutch Crunch bread. I think it cost me $15.26. My hubby and I shared the sandwich at home. It looked good. It tasted good. However, the meat to bread ratio was off. We each felt that we had an inch of bread left from our halves with no meat filling. Perhaps we should've opened our halves and spread the meat around to cover all corners of the bread. I now see what all the hype is about. It is all that plus more! It's such a cute spot nestled quietly in the heart of Willow Glen. Small parking lot but there is plenty street parking in the vicinity. There is seating right outside the place so if you want to sit and eat you can. You walk in and it feels and smells like you've stepped into someone's home. Even if this is your first time here the aroma is nostalgic for some reason. I think it's muscle memory. When you've had delicious comfort food your soul senses it regardless of whether or not you've been there. I ordered Doordash pick up because I was ordered on a Thursday for lunch and didn't know what the line would look like. So I walked right in and gave my name and was handed my bag-o-goodies. They have shelves of dry goods to purchase. Refrigerated items to purchase. Their deli counter is towards the back and wraps around the front. I ordered: 1. 2 meatballs: hearty and delicious. 2. Beef raviolis: small but packed with meat and in their meat sauce. Flavorfull! 3. Arancini: I've never tried one. It's a rice ball filled with veggies, cheese and ground meat. Then rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Then served with their sauce. Holy Moly!!! Why have I never had this heavenly piece of Italy?!?!?! Seasoned well and fried well. It's a meal in it of itself! 4. Garlic bread: hot, buttery, garlicky toasted goodness! The only thing I finished was the arancini. I took a bite of each of the rest just so I could write this review and will save for my sons for when I get home because it's all too good not to be shared. Will be back! read more

One of the best deli sandwich joints in the South Bay, maybe THE best, can be found on Lincoln avenue, a fact all Willow Glen locals know We visited for lunch on Friday and ordered a Chris Special Italian sandwich plus the chicken piccata, roasted veg, ravioli special, both were excellent and a good value for the price. The peak Friday lunch line stretched out the door, which was as expected, and thankfully moved steadily. Be sure to grab a ticket and listen for your number to be called. We then ate on the sun drenched patio, too sunny actually. It may be early April but time to put back the awning as I came away with a slight sunburned face. Service is crisp, familiar, and moves fast - a welcome briskness if you're waiting in line. If you like deli sandwiches, definitely come for Chris's Combo -- that's the standout. I personally wouldn't recommend the ravioli, though. It's a cute little deli with plenty of outdoor seating, which I really liked. I gave the ravioli another try since it's so popular (last time I had butter lobster, this time beef & spinach in marinara), but it just wasn't for me either time. The pasta skin was very doughy, and the beef and spinach filling was super finely ground and kind of mushy. I ordered a half pint and it was very filling, just not enjoyable. The sausage had a strange hard texture, but the meatball was my favorite part of the dish. If I'm in the area with a friend who enjoys deli sandwiches in the future, I'd come back. The staff is super nice and it feels great to support local businesses. But personally I wouldn't make the trek over to try their ravioli. read more

I have been wanting to try Bertucelli for the longest time and I finally got to try it on a Saturday around 4pm! Parked in a lot a few minutes away and there is street parking as well. There was a line, but it moved quickly. The inside of the store looks like a small market/deli and most of the food is already prepared. My friend and I decided to share the arancini, vegetarian lasagna, 1 pint of the ricotta ravioli, tiramisu, and chocolate cheesecake. My friend also ordered the Chris Combo sandwich. Vegetarian Lasagna (3.5/5): Came out nice and hot. The marina sauce tasted good but there was a bit too much of it - to the point where it was overpowering all the other flavors and turned the dish into a soup Ricotta Ravioli (4/5): Favorite dish that we ordered! Simple and tasty. The ravioli was soft and pillowy and the ricotta was good quality. Similar to the lasagna, there was too much marina sauce. Vegetarian Arancini (2.5/5): I expected the same marina sauce that was in the ravioli and lasagna however, this sauce tasted smokier which I didn't really like. The arancini itself could have been more flavorful as well. For $7, it didn't feel worth it Tiramisu (5/5): I really liked the tiramisu! It was on the sweeter side which I appreciated and the flavors were well balanced Chocolate Cheesecake (2/5): We weren't fans of this dessert. The cheesecake tasted pretty sour and wasn't very enjoyable Chris Combo (3.5/5): Friend thought the bread was tasty and liked the overall flavor. A favorite place of mine for many, many years. I always have loved the Chris Combo- truly the best sandwich I've ever had, although what's in it is a secret. This place is a favorite for Sharks fans especially, but also Niners fans, sandwich fans, ravioli fans- a place that has something for everyone. While you're waiting in line (and this is a popular place, so there usually is a line!) it's fun to look at the signed hockey sticks and other local sports memorabilia all around the store. One of my favorite parts of picking up my favorite special treat, the Chris Combo, was often being handed the sandwich by Chris Bertucelli himself. I didn't know him personally but could always tell he was kind, friendly, and even on their busiest afternoons made a point to thank you for coming in. It was fun to follow La Villa on Instagram and to see Chris himself excitedly serving the delicious food to famous athletes, who understandably always looked just as happy to be meeting him. I was deeply saddened to see the news yesterday of Chris' passing. Someone I had spoken to many times for just a minute or two over several years, but felt like a friend to all. I had heard many wonderful experiences from people who had tried La Villa, and I finally gave it a try. I ordered the Chris Combo, which included a 1/2 pin of mac and cheese, 1 pin of ravioli, a 1/2 pin of meat marinara sauce, and the Friday special--a tuna melt that came with Caesar pasta salad, fruit cheesecake, a cannoli, and a small bottle of prosecco. Out of all the items I ordered, the Chris Combo was absolutely unique and full of flavor. The tuna melt was fresh and did not taste like it came from a can. The Caesar pasta salad was delicious--the dressing tasted homemade. The ravioli did not disappoint at all. Please keep in mind that during the holiday season this place gets very busy. I recommend placing your order ahead of time, as pickup can take up to an hour. Parking can be hectic, but you can't blame people--this place is authentic and truly satisfies your Italian food cravings. I can't wait to come back again. We came in to pick up some celebration dinner for the arrival of a new family member! Since they were likely going to be staying indoors for a while, we decided to pick up a delicious Italian feast for them! La Villa located in downtown Willow Glen is a staple in the community. It has a decent sized parking lot next to the store. Inside it gives off that "authentic Italian deli vibe" with lots of local sports team memorabilia (most if not all signed by the players who frequent this place!). ALWAYS TAKE A NUMBER!!! The lines can be long and they'll call each number waiting one by one to take your order. You'll want to have that order ready before as they're busy and it can slow up the line when unprepared. We ordered 2 Chris Combos and an Italian Combo on Sourdough (they ran out of Dutch Crunch by the time we got there). Also grabbed a quart of the beef raviolis which is my son's FAVORITE thing to eat right now! Lastly, we grabbed a cannoli, tiramisu and special pumpkin mousse. Everything comes out quickly and it's packaged up to take home to enjoy! If I could give La Villa 10 stars I would. This is one of the best deli's in the area. I grew up in San Francisco and La Villa is just like any of the amazing places one finds in North Beach. The meat raviolis are heaven. We order them uncooked in a box with a side of the meat sauce and cook at home. My grandfather was from Lucca Italy and made ravioli all the time, these are just like the ones he used to make. If you want to order these around any holiday do so early and try to pick them up early as well (they have binders for orders during any of the holidays). We have also tried their sandwiches, and other deli items, everything has been so good!!!! They can get crowded and busy during lunchtime, plan accordingly. Every person who works here is great with customers, friendly and always going above and beyond. The store is comfortable, eating areas are outside for those nice days when you just want to pick up a sandwich and sit right down and eat. La Villa is what a deli should be. read more

I've been hearing about how amazing La Villa's ravioli is for years and finally tried it today. I had a feeling I should just get a pint since it was my first time trying it, but no, I went ahead and ordered a quart of the beef and spinach ravioli with meat sauce. The ravioli themselves were okay, but the sauce was terrible. It was so sweet it tasted like melted gummy bears. I tried wiping it off each ravioli, but I could still taste it. This place is a neighborhood gem in Willowglen that attracts a loyal and large customer base. They're famous for the ravioli and sandwiches, it's kept me coming back since I had it for the first time back in 2003. The Chris combo sandwich is an absolute must. I have no idea what sauce they put in there but it's wonderful. One of the best sandwiches you can get in the South Bay. It keeps busy at lunch times and on weekends.
