My coworkers and I have gone here for lunch a couple of times. We have also ordered from here for catering office parties. The food is always great, and the owners/staff are always great to work with! Food: I normally order the portabella fusilli. It's great and comes with plenty of mushrooms. For catering, the office has done chicken parmesan, linguini with clams, salad, and fettuccine alfredo. Catering is always easy to pick up, and the food is good. This is a locally owned. It is the kind of place where they know your name. I go here once a week. Staff are friendly and make you feel like part of the Mio family. It is quaint and can be packed on weekends. A few years ago I hosted my parents 50th anniversary in there banquet room. Holds about 50. House red wine is great but I just discovered their Pinot Grigio is delish. My go to dish is the Baked Penne sausage. I had there special the Rib Eye steak with Blue cheese Demi glaze , mashes potatoes and veggies. It was tender and full of flavor. The glaze was so good I used it as gravy on my potatoes. For dessert, they have the best options for cheesecake. You need to call to know what the special is for the day. A local italian restaurant known for its homemade pasta and pizza I tried the Chicken Cannelloni. The fresh pasta was filled with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, quattro formaggi, and oregano, then baked in a rich provolone and marsala cream sauce, topped with toasted pine nuts. The sauce is so rich and velvety I also tried the Shrimp Pie. It came with prawns, rock shrimp, pesto, pine nuts, and plenty of melty cheese. The shrimp was fresh and well-seasoned, and the combination worked beautifully. Their tiramisu is a must try and it did not disappoint. I came here randomly with my boyfriend looking for a new place to eat. I wish we didn't. The wait was super long, but it seemed promising considering it was so crowded so we stuck it out. We were seated and given cups. While I appreciate having clean dishes, both me and my boyfriend immediately got a whiff of musty improperly dried dishwasher smells from the cups. It took awhile for a server to come to our table and take our order. We got calamari to share, then I got the chicken cannelloni and he got the chicken parm. The calamari was decent tho the breading kept falling off, but it was probably the only thing I could consider finishing. Food came out after awhile, which was surprising because it looked like it was just blasted in the microwave. Steaming hot at the top, lukewarm in the middle. I took one look and lied to myself that maybe it tasted better--immediately no and just stopped eating. My boyfriend's chicken parm was soggy when usually chicken is separated from the pasta. He ate it begrudgingly because he was so hungry. He usually likes everything and the fact this dish and mine tasted bad to him says something. I felt extremely disappointed and just wanted to leave and go home after. I didn't even take it home because it was so gross. Please do not go here if you want to feel satisfied after--for the price, service, and quality--it was not worth it and worse than Olive Garden. We held a family dinner here at Mio Vicino, in their Banquet Room. Dinner was a huge success. Everyone complimented the food and great service. The meal was served in courses. Two different hors d'oeuvres were served for each table. Then, they served a Salad course. We could choose any 5 Entrees for our guests' Dinner menu selection. They also brought Hot Bread and Roasted Garlic with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar to the table. Tiramisu was served for Dessert. A choice of beverages was offered. Everybody raved about their food! And you know family, they'll let you know if they don't like something! We highly recommend this restaurant for Dinner or Banquets. Food is normal - 3 star; service is great, 4 star. My friend loved this place and recommended us over for lunch. It fits into the neighborhood and not as quite standing out as a grand place. Inside was also a bit plain, not much of those red and white checkered Italian designs. It has a bar area that took up a good half of the place as the place is like a long rectagle deep in. Street parking. I was greeted right away when I sat down and asked for my drink request. Service was informal but plenty. We were offered cheese twice as the first time we were distracted with food pictures. We asked for small plates to share the dessert, water refill and was checked on. No free bread for the table, it was $2 a basket but they are cold and the crust seemed too hard for me. The interesting thing is it comes with a plate of roasted garlic cloves which are tasty. I'd rather eat the garlic cloves and I actually put some more into my pasta. My portobello fusili with chicken was ok, pleasantly surprised that added chicken was $5 and not $6 as the menu stated. Pasta was cooked el dente and the sauce evenly coated on the pasta. The scallop salad looked great and sumptuous, they did not go cheap on the scallops. Shellfish pasta at $23 is reasonable. The Oreo bread pudding was better than I thought. It was huge, 3 of us shared for 2 servings and still ended up with a quarter left. This was an amazing meal at a charming little tiny Italian restaurant where the owner has been working and eventually owning for 30 years. We started with the polenta which was fried with mushrooms and an amazing cream sauce, and some sort of soft cheese. It was unbelievably good!! I finally chose after so many attempts to choose the fresh pasta with artichoke filling in a sage cream sauce. It was so rich and delicious.! They offer you freshly grated Parmesan if you like. I also had a latte which was excellent. What can I say but that it was absolutely delicious. I wish I could remember the name of the dish. I recall it was a sage, artichoke cream sauce type of dish. So if you see something like that on the menu that's it. I chose it for the creative use of flavors, and damn was it good. I thought I wouldn't be able to eat it all, but boy was I wrong. I haven't been here for a few years because I moved but wow, I feel like the food got even better. It was five stars before but it's even better now.. I did my honeymoon in Italy the food here I prefer this place more . you gotta try the polenta and the eggplant for the appetizer and also the cheesy bread. My entrée was delicious. Salmon and spinach was drizzled in butter. Lot of these Italian restaurants don't offer eggplant proper Anna but the one here is amazing. They have a great selection of desserts. I live in the area and enjoy eating here. It's perfect for the neighborhood. The staff is nice. The food is good. It isn't fine dining, but a nice neighborhood restaurant is charming and a luxury to live around. I love their Gorgonzola gnocchi and chicken Parmesan. I had the latter for lunch yesterday and might walk over there right now and have it again. Their bread is fresh and delicious. It's served with soft, sexy garlic. You'll see what I mean. I was feeling pretty hungry after working one evening and decided to treat myself to a quiet dinner by myself. stopped by Mio VIcino for dinner on a Sunday night around 6:30pm and was surprised to see how busy the restaurant was. I didn't mind sitting at the bar, but there happened to be an available side table for 2 where I was offered to sit. I thought that the restaurant was cute and casual, but I could see it being a spot for a lovely dinner on a night on the town. Wait staff was friendly, but I also felt that they meant business. After I sat at the table, it took 5 minutes for a server to acknowledge my presence and then she skipped the formalities and straight up asked if I was ready to order. The food took a while to come out too especially for a party of 1. The food was excellent though! I ordered the polenta appetizer, which consisted with fried polenta pieces and mushrooms sauteed in a cream wine sauce. The polenta were extra crispy on the edges, and the mushroom sauce was amazing. It had a meatiness to it but also a nice sweetness. After devouring the appetizer, I dug into my entree of the artichoke sage tortelli. It came with 6 large tortelli, and they were stuffed with an artichoke cheese filling. I enjoyed the bits of sun dried tomatoes for bits of flavor. I got their apricot bread pudding for the road. I had the chance to try some at home, and I thought it was quite good especially with apricots being in season right now. They did package it at room temperature, which I found to be worth noting if you choose to order this for take out. read more

Food - We ordered the following: Eggplant Parmesan. Not much taste, eggplant tasted like it came out of a can. Chicken Cannelloni. Pasta was over cooked, not much flavor in the filling. I absolutely refuse to admit how long I have been coming to Mio Vicino because then of course I will have to admit how old I am - but let's just say there is a reason this neighborhood spot is still here and still serving the most delicious food! If you did not know, they also offer catering and that is what my review is based off of today! We ordered two pastas, eggplant parmesan and chicken parmesan for 30 people! We also decided to throw in some pizza because who doesn't love pizza? Both eggplant and chicken parmesans were awesome - they were packaged well and still hot, breading was fantastic, but let's talk about the copious amounts of CHEEEEEEEEESE and sauce, it was awesome! Super flavorful and delicious. My team loved both equally! The Portabella fusilli pasta - DELICIOUS. I have no idea what is in that sauce, it is absolutely perfect on a fall day. Portabellas with sundried tomatoes and spinach, so yummy! Marinara spaghetti - was awesome, I would order with a side of sauce next time, the noodles absorbed the sauce a bit, but their marinara is quite tasty so I might selfishly just want more, because more is more! Last, the pizzas - fantastic - really fresh toppings! The team loved the pepperoni, its spicy and delicious with a really nice crust! I got the Pesto Pizza Bread and the Veggie Pasta with chicken added. Everything was cooked perfectly and the red sauce was to die for. I visited this place on a Tuesday afternoon and I LOVEd it! The staff was very nice and even though they were very very busy, they still made sure to seat us fast and check in on us several times. We had some free bread with garlic, then we ordered bruschetta, lasagna, and some pasta. Starting with the first bite and ending with the last one, everything was delicious. The bread was crunchy but not too dry or tough and it helped us get over our hunger while waiting for the main meals. The pasta and lasagna were so tender and tasty. What I really liked is that this restaurant is very generous with meats. Sometimes I would order something at other places and the meat is barely here but not this restaurant: my lasagna was nicely filled with meat and I appreciate that.  Prices were alright. My SO and I were craving Italian, and we'd driven past Mio Vicino many times, so we decided to check it out for dinner one Saturday evening. WAIT Upon entrance, we were third in line. A Mio Vicino team member assisted us, and luckily, we were seated within a few minutes. It was bustling with large parties ahead of us. AMBIANCE/SEATING From what I know, Mio Vicino has been open for quite some time since the early 1990s. The restaurant layout reminds me of what used to be a diner. There are plenty of tables wrapped around an extended counter area where the kitchen is located. The decor is very homey and family style type restaurant. SERVICE Attentive and amicable. FOOD * Complimentary ciabatta bread and roasted garlic. One word, delicious! The bread is from a bakery in Fresno, per one of the servers, but they did not know the bakery's name. We enjoyed the roasted garlic, to which vinegar and oil were added to dip the bread. * Fried Calamari - The appetizer was plentiful and good. The batter was light and crispy. There was light seasoning, but the two dips were fantastic. It came with a cocktail sauce and lemon aioli. The only feedback is I wish lemon wedges went with the appetizer to squeeze over the calamari. * Fusilli Vegetale Arossto - I enjoyed this pasta entree; emphasis on the olive oil and garlic-based versus a sauce--options to add chicken or prawns. I opted for prawns, which were cooked properly. It added a nice umami seafood flavor to the dish. All of the vegetables were good except the roasted eggplant. Unfortunately, it was a hair undercooked. * Gorgonzola Gnocchi - This dish was delectable, and we both enjoyed the taste. The gnocchi was tossed in a Gorgonzola cream sauce with spinach, radicchio, and walnuts. * Tiramisu - The dessert was made in-house. We ordered one to-go. It was delicious. The cake itself was moist and not overly sweetened. It was light with notes of coffee and cocoa present. Overall, it is an excellent Italian restaurant to dine at. We have missed Mio Vicino since they left Saratoga. The service is excellent and the waiter was kind enough to accommodate us even though the restaurant was nearly full. We were in a big hurry. Mio Vicino is aptly named because it is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Everything on the menu is delicious. The polenta appetizer is a real winner. Went there on a Saturday nite after attending a concert, and was able to be seated immediately. It's not a big restaurant and seating for big groups is limited, so getting there early is a good idea. We ordered the pizza and a caprese salad. The salad was delicious and so was the pizza. Their crust is good and not greasy or too thick. Service was good, but it seemed like they were short handed because our waitress had to be reminded to bring us water and take our order, but it was busy, and she was handling several tables. We have eaten at Mio Vicino many times or ordered takeout from it because it's located so close to our home. It's good Italian food but not great. I don't enjoy dining in at Mio Vicino because it's very small. The tables for two are basically in a hallway. When our whole family of six went we were seated in a table that was clearly meant for four. We do occasionally do takeout when we have guests who want Italian. They have a few outdoor tables and you can rent a private room for special events. They usually have a couple specials that vary daily which is nice addition to standard menu. They make their own pizzas, can watch the chef preparing. Shellfish pasta has a delicious sauce and their salads are very fresh and tasty. The bread service is worth it with roasted garlic and each table has olive oil and balsamic vinegar to enjoy. 4-stars instead of 5 is mainly because is is smaller and some of the seats are crammed together along side wall- so you end up bumping into dinners behind you when getting in or out of seats. read more

From that night, I'm surprised by the four star average rating for this place as the experience was most definitely under par on several counts. Venue: D grade/1.5 stars. Pro - They offer indoor, outdoor, and private room dining in a separate unit. Cons - No parking lot. The men's bathroom had a sign posted on the door that it was out of service, but several of our party's guests found that, aside from the sink shooting water out, there was no defect in the men's restroom. As a result of the closed men's lavatory, the women's was converted to an all gender bathroom. Luckily, I never had to wait in line to use the restroom; however, upon entry, I nearly vomited and lost my appetite due to the filthy toilet - under the rim was a wide layer of black mold. GROSS! Food and Drink: C grade/3 stars. For our private party, we were served some plates of STARTERS to share (Bruschetta & Fried Calamari) and presented with a customized menu with a Caesar salad, choice of entrée (Gorgonzola Gnocchi, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Cannelloni, Linguine w/Clams, & Lasagna), and Tiramisu for dessert. For my beverage, I ordered an Arnold Palmer. Due to my trauma from seeing their disgustingly dirty toilet in the women's lavatory, paranoia over lack of cleanliness took over me and had me thinking that I was drinking toilet water. Bruschetta - I'm not usually a fan of this antipasto, but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavour of this grilled bread starter. Fried Calamari - Not bad. I would have preferred a bit more crisp, but this squid starter was still enjoyable. The sizes of the Caesar Salads were not consistent. When they served the small plates of greens to Dustin and me, I immediately asked, "Did they run out of lettuce??" Overhearing my sarcastic remark to my plate of a few leaves of lettuce, our server switched mine for another of a more substantial serving. Linguine w/Clams - This was my selected main dish. Again, my trauma kicked in and I questioned if there was a piece of hair in the broth of my pasta. The waitress told me that what I was seeing was fresh dill. Luckily, Ray traded his bowl of pasta for mine. The flavour was good. Tiramisu - Wow, you can really see that this dessert is made up of lady fingers in this version. Matt enjoyed his, I did not. Service: D grade/ 2 stars. Our private dining party of about 35 to 40 persons was assigned one waitress and an additional server to assist her. From the skimpy portions of our Caesar salads and the waitress' neglect or refusal to serve all of the desserts if people were not seated at the tables, it seemed as if the staff was trying to cut corners or save cost on inventory. The sides of broccoli and zucchini tasted like they were made in a microwave, not a kitchen. My girlfriend ordered the chicken cannelloni, which was even worse. The sauce had a thick, unappetizing skin on top, while the rest of it was barely room temperature. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting out before being served.
