We had a wonderful time last night! The service was outstanding. Whitney was our waitress. She was quick to help us with our needs and was fast without sacrificing genuine kindness and quality service. Us two adults and our toddler split 1 meal, The Grizz. Yes. There's that much food. It was SO good. The country potatoes is what I've been craving all week and didn't know until I ate some. And those pancakes....holy yum. We were checked out up front by Melissa. She was a manager. She was just as fantastic and made our evening just that much better. In just the short time we stood there and chatted, I concluded Black Bear Diner practices honesty and transperancy. I love that in a company. I makes you feel valued as a customer and as if you're part of their success. She gave us a little chocolate pie as a parting gift. Our daughter thought it was the cutest thing ever and wanted to hold it on her lap all the way home in Centerville. This is a mighty fine establishment. Black Bear Diner seemed to be the only place around that wasn't too busy to accommodate a large group for a Saturday morning breakfast. They seated us within 15 minutes, when every other breakfast place we called would have had around an hour wait. I've been to Black Bear Diners in several states, and they've always been pretty consistent so far. The food won't blow your socks off, but it's good, doesn't cost too much, and the portions are large. They have lots of breakfast options so there's something for everyone. I ordered the Mini Volcano, which comes with 2 pancakes, 1 sausage link, 1 piece of bacon, and 1 egg. It was a great variety and everything tasted good. My one-year-old had the strawberry french toast from the kids menu made on sourdough bread. I'm not a huge fan of sourdough, especially for french toast, but my daughter finished her whole plate, so that's a bonus for me. Our server, Aurora, was super friendly and checked in on us periodically. Overall we had a great meal at this Black Bear Diner location. read more

I think this is aptly named as the portions could feed a family of bears for the winter. This is not a fancy restaurant, but what do you expect from a rustic building decorated with bear themed motif? Down home country cooking for people who are either sharing a meal or really hungover. I love black bear diner but the food at this location wasn't the best. I usually get the volcano (pancakes) thinking "you can't go wrong with pancakes." But I thought wrong... my pancake was burnt and they flipped it over thinking I wouldn't notice but it was so hard I couldn't miss it.. when I asked for another the waitress was nice enough to get another and apologized.. only to come back with a pancake that wasn't cooked all the way. Waited 40 minutes for breakfast. Ordered eggs Benedict with crispy hash browns. Hollandaise sauce was broken and covered in parsley. Bacon looked old and hash browns looked like they had been microwaved. The orange slice they use for garnish was days old and was just orange rind sitting on wilted lettuce. It is so sad how far downhill everything about this place has gone. The quality of food is not nearly as good as it used to be and for the price it's just not worth it. The Avocado toast is literally just a piece of bread (barely toasted at all) with a smashed avocado on it. If I'm going out to eat breakfast somewhere I kind of expect it to be a little dressed up. Their "thick cut" bacon is anything but. Overcooked, super thin and cold. The coffee is nothing to write home about either and for $3 a cup it's even more disappointing. First time at the new Draper location. Before I've only been to the 9400 s and Highland location and I think I might stick with that one. Same restaurant, decor, food, and good service. However I prefer the Sandy location more. The Draper location is right off the freeway and probably a lot busier because of this. We went for Sunday brunch at 1pm with a party of 5 (4 adults, 1 child) and the wait was nearly 40 minutes. We sat down and ordered our food immediately since we made our decisions while waiting. The food took about another 25 minutes to come out. Sunday brunch took about 3 hours... which would normally be fine had there been some mimosa's or bloody mary's... But not this time... read more

The girl at the counter was the only saving grace. The girls in the kitchen were to busy socializing to be bothered with customers. I placed and online order and it not only wasn't ready ready I got there. A half hour later the girls in the kitchen had not brought it up. Having eaten at other Hungry Bear Diners I was very disappointed in this one. Our server was more interested in messing around with his apparent friends then giving us any decent service. We apparently received the last three straws in the restaurant for the five of us because when we had to ask for straws we were told "well I only have 3". Morgan food came out with plastic wrap still on my vegetables. My wife's turkey sandwich was nearly too hard to eat. Also apparently chocolate chip pancakes are now just pancakes with a couple chocolate chips thrown in a pile on top in the middle. Never a question from our server if we needed anything, then had to sit and wait for 10 minutes for him to finish vacuuming at 8:20 to finally get our check. Please do yourself the favor and choose a different restaurant when in this area. read more

I love Black Bear Diner. It's probably my favorite chain breakfast joint. Food is always tremendously filling and comforting. I typically get the Big Foot chicken fried steak breakfast but saw a picture of the corned beef brisket breakfast and had to try it. I was definitely not disappointed. I always get a glass of their fresh squeezed orange juice too. The only reason I didn't give them five stars was because the server made us feel rushed eventhough there wasn't a wait. read more

I love Black Bear Diner but after today, it is very most likely I will never go again! My son got the volcano so it was like three pancakes, eggs sausage bacon. We asked for his scrambled eggs on the side because he doesn't like eggs. I got Bruce's meat, lover omelette, with hashbrowns, and an English muffin. The food came out very fast, but his eggs looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp. my omelette didn't have very much meat. The meat wasn't cooked all the way the omelette the eggs was overcooked and looked just like the scrambled eggs like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. It wasn't hot. I asked them to bring me different hashbrowns because the hashbrowns they gave me weren't cooked. So she took the plate came right back with a different plate so a different omelette but same thing it looked like it been sitting under a heat lamp and this time the hashbrowns were covered in grease weren't cooked just smothered in Grease. I took a few bites and can't eat anymore of the hashbrowns because they were not cooked. The only thing out of what I had ordered that was good was the English muffin. Not even 10 minutes after leaving. My stomach started hurting and I am sure it's from the food not being cooked properly. We went to lunch here around noon on a Saturday. It was fairly busy. In the entrance area, there isn't a ton of space to wait for you to be seated. Our waitress was pretty good, quick and kind. The kitchen was pretty busy, we could see all of the workers hustling around. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros with avocado, and he loved it! I had the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs, red potatoes, and a pancake on the side. It was a very large meal. I was a little disappointed in my chicken fried steak because it was dry and not very tasty. The gravy was flavorful. I liked the red potatoes, they were full of taste. But the pancake and the syrup were AMAZING. I loved it! I'm sure I would've rated 5 stars if I would've ordered something else. It was clean inside the restaurant and felt like a cabin inside. The prices are a fair I guess for a sit down restaurant, and you also get a lot of food. I would go back definitely and stick with the pancakes! read more

Anonymous - I have purchased thanksgiving dinners for my folks the last several years bc my mother is home bound & before covid we we ordering from Mimi's Cafe sadly they shut down thanks to covid ..So I decided to try black bear @ ordered 2 ham plates of thanksgiving dinner for my folks he picked it up they ate the it at home they was completely dissatisfied and said the only thing nice about the meals was it filled them up. They said it had no flavor No nothing decent about the meals not even the the pumpkin pie was any good. They said we will never eat there again. We've experienced this the couple times my husband and I have eaten there we were willing to give it the benefit of the doubt with few years in between visits my husband and I haven't eaten there since either but was willing again to try it and my folks were completely disappointed so we are completely done never again will we eat black bear diner again.. Gave this restaurant 2 chances during covid, and both times they made me a meal that I wouldn't feed to the birds. First instance - ordered a California omelet, received a flat dry burnt egg smothered in cheese and mushrooms. That's it. Who do you have employed there that thought this would be a good idea to send out to a customer? Also ordered a coffee, didn't receive it. Oh well, took my losses and figured they were going through a rough time. Second instance (5/28/2020) - ordered a fit breakfast - chicken sausage scramble. Literally received a quarter of a portion that wouldn't be enough for a toddler. The portion of avocado on top was bigger than the meal itself. There is literally no egg within this "scramble" just heavy amounts of cheese and a like 2 pieces of spinach. Not only this, ordered a side of oatmeal, should have come with cinnamon and fruit as described in the menu. Guess what? No cinnamon, fruit, and I'd be surprised if this was even oatmeal. I held the cup upside down and this sludge wouldnt even let gravity allow it to come out! I get covid out everyone through a tough time, but my goodness this is embarrassing also seeing that this is your "welcome back" promotion. Definitely going to be sharing this on my Facebook as well and advising others to take their money elsewhere if this is the garbage you're going to try to get away with sending to people. read more

My husband and I visited for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. We chose to sit at the bar to eat. While waiting for our food we were able to observe the staff behind the grill and at the counter. They were amazing! They worked together as a team the whole time we were there. They helped each other in serving, preparing, and organizing the meals. Normally I love this place. The portions are YUGE! This time though was slightly disappointing. I think mostly it was just a Sunday morning g so it was insanely busy. The food was good but it was really hard to get the attention of the waitress to get little things like hot sauce and extra syrup. I'm going to keep coming back though because I deserve breakfast this good at these prices. The pancakes are large, fluffy, and delicious. My husband and I came here for brunch before I had to work. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict. Eggs poached hard. No parsley. It came out a California Benedict. Eggs poached easy. With parsley. They took it back. Waited another 10 minutes. It came back eggs still runny. And parsley. The waitress asked if I wanted to try again or just go. No. I'm hungry. So they are going to try again. 15 minutes later I ask for the manager. My husband is done eating. The kitchen is working on a huge to go order. And I have no food. He tells me it takes that long to poach the eggs hard. Ok. Third plate comes out. Covered in parsley. I try to scrape it off but there is so much I can't get it all off. I am now done. I'm new to Utah and have seen several Black Bear Diners along the 15. I was excited to try the one in Draper. The nice thing is that it is open on Sunday -yay! However, the food was just a tad above "meh". The service was not great but I'm sure it may have to do with everyone experiencing staffing shortages. The inside was a little "beat up" . I think Black Bear had to kill the pig to harvest the bacon, sausage and ham and wait for their one chicken to lay a few eggs. We sat for 20m waiting for our server then waited another 30m to receive our food. We arrived around 8am. There were very few tables occupied so we thought it would be a quick visit. Fifteen minutes into waiting the manager brought us some drinks and apologized that out server was running late (there appeared to be other servers working but I guess they're territorial). The food was diner quality and the coffee was so so. I don't recommend going to Black Bear Diner for breakfast unless you've got an hour to spend waiting. read more
