I had a craving for meatloaf and mashed potatoes so here we are. Let's go! I was greeted upon arrival with a big smile and hearty greeting. Felt welcome. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, broccoli, warm cornbread and a side Caesars salad. The salad dressing was amazing! I asked if it were made in-house and was surprised that it's not. It's Ken' Metropolitan SelectRomanCaesar Dressing. You can taste the anchovies... so good. The food was dry satisfying. The broccoli was buttery and had a nice garlic flavor. Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning a couple months ago. Black Bear has a homey feel, and service was surprisingly quick for a prime breakfast time. I've eaten at a few Black Bears, and my main critique is that the food isn't anything special. It's good, just not unique. For instance, my open-faced turkey sandwich tasted like pretty much every other open-faced turkey sandwich I've ever tried. Always a Solid Stop We stopped in at the Black Bear Diner in Draper for breakfast. I've been to Black Bear before and even to this exact location, so I already knew it was a safe bet. It didn't disappoint. The place had a quiet, easy vibe. Not too busy, and if you know, you know. It has that comforting, rustic charm that always hits the spot. Hubby had scrambled eggs with cheese, toast, and hash browns, plus a hot coffee. I went for the avocado toast with an egg, red potatoes on the side, and added a side of bacon. Everything was delicious, hot, and fresh. Our waiter, Davio, is originally from London and brought great energy to the table. Super friendly, attentive, and quick without hovering. Finally, this was my first time checking out a Black Bear Diner for dinner. From the outside, it always looks like a nice place for a meal. Their menu was in the form of a newspaper. I ordered their New York Steak & Eggs with grits and sourdough toast. The menu said that it was a USDA Choice Meats by Linz steak. Can't say that I've heard of that particular brand, but it was good. I got coffee to go with my meal. I always love places that serve breakfast all day. I might say that it was better than eating at a Cracker Barrel! The service was also very nice and friendly. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming! Tables and floors were clean. Unfortunately I thought the food is just okay. I got the Volcano this time (with french toast instead of pancakes) and I think it was a good size meal for the price, but the food is okay . The bacon was a bit overcooked in my opinion. We came for breakfast this morning, being a Monday it was not busy. We were seated right away and our waitress took our drink order. We decided what we wanted to order and after about 15 minutes my husband had to holler to get our waitress's attention, (was too busy talking with 2 other employees at the end of the counter). My husband wanted his ocuntry potatoes deep fried so they would be crispy, I did not but mine were deep fried as well. We yet again had to holler for the waitress so we could pay and get out of there,(yet again too busy talking). My husband tried talking to the manager about our poor experience and he just brushed him off, not really caring at all. I would NOT recommend this place unless you want poor service and sub-par food. Also I saw another waitress take toast off a plate to have the cooks toast it more with her bare hands, very un-sanitary!! read more

The cute bear decor is welcoming and cute and it's always been clean - no dust or small housekeeping items that stand out as needing attention which I appreciate. We love Black Bear near us in Phoenix and we were pleased to see one near our hotel so we didn't have to try and find a spot for a bite to eat. While they serve breakfast all day I opted for lunch this go round. Even though I love their sweet cream pancakes and sometimes eggs benedict. Today I opted for a simple BLT. A few others at the table ordered breakfast, chicken fried steak and more. Service was a bit slow at first, but once he came not only was he funny; he was quick, attentive and even played with my nephews cute little baby . Our area was clean and we had no issues. After visiting the local Draper Living Planet Aquarium, four of us patronized our local Black Bear Diner on the other side of I-15. We've been here many times before and used to patronize the BBD more often when the kids were youngsters. But it was nice to return to the Draper BBD last Wednesday night. We were seated immediately and waited on by Kaia who did a very nice job taking care of our slightly off-kilter dinner orders. The four of us enjoyed two omelets, a bacon cheddar burger, and eggs benedict. All were pretty good tasting but could have been brought out hotter. We also enjoyed hot tea, hot chocolate, a soft drink, and iced tea...and each drink was $3.39. Huh? I get that they were unlimited refills, but $3.39 for hot tea and iced tea, each? Sure, I get the current economy, but really? Also, the seating area needed a lot of attention as multiple tables were un-bussed and the carpeting needed a good vacuuming. It was pretty filthy and made the wrong impression on us. That, and the restrooms had no warm water...just ice cold...and the faucet in the men's room needed serious repair. We got out of there at $83.03 due to two add-ons to one of the omelets (sausage links and baked salmon), but still...it was of kind of pricey for this kind of establishment...don't you think? Oh, and the managers need to get in there and pay some attention to detail...getting tables bussed and floors vacuumed. We came here to start of my mom's birthday, our waiter was so sweet and was happy to make my mom's breakfast great. We did wait a little bit for the food but our waiter was constantly coming to check on us and make sure our waters were full. This restaurant is so cute and I love the little bear details everywhere. When our food came it was hot and delicious. Once again our waiter was going above and beyond bringing extra syrup. To end our huge meal she brought my mom this delicious sundae. It was so good! I had the worst meals of my life. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and a side salad. The chicken fried steak and gravy was absolutely terrible. It was cold and flavorless. The hashbrowns were saturated in grease. The biscuit was so hard and dry I couldn't break off a piece with my hands. I had to saw it with a knife. And the side salad was nothing but strange lettuce with shredded carrots, gross. The waiter kept forgetting about us. We had to call him over to take our order and he forgot to bring things we asked for. I will NEVER eat there again. So not worth the time or money! read more

We love eating at BBD and we love our server Joy she is the best and on top of her profession, but the woman that was working the area where the food comes out, I think her name is Lucy, she is the worst co-worker to have for these serves. We where eating and she was yelling joys name in a very condescending way more than once, Lucy is very unprofessional and made our experience eating there horrible, someone really needs to teach her how to be more professional!!! They forgot the ranch dressing for my salad so I had to walk back over to get it. Made me a bit frustrated so I thought I would old light them up on reviews. But the food saved them. Very good food.
