I've been here many times and have enjoyed every dinner I've eaten here! The staff are warm and friendly, Chef Julius frequently comes by to say hello to guests, and it's a great place to have a massive meal and relax. I love that you start off with the pork rinds and sauce at the beginning, and I always order the house red drink (free refills!). I've had the chicken fried chicken, catfish, and shrimp and grits as mains; and different combinations of the collard greens, candied yams, and golden splendor as sides. Whatever you order, the flavors and textures shine, and the portions are HUMONGOUS. The food is a great value and so, so delicious. You'll leave feeling full, with a second meal, and with the desire to come back again tomorrow.
If you pass on this spot you are Crazy. Food was Amazing. The Service was amazing. Location is nice. Plenty of parking . Fired chicken is something that needs to be tried. The greens there are no words that do them justice. If you are reading this stop. Get in your car amd go get some, period!

The shrimp sandwich was great (a bit skimpy on the sauce so I asked for a side of it; very tasty) and the grits were great. I loved the cornbread. It was so sweet. Mac and cheese was awesome. We were intrigued by the sweet potato cheesecake so we got it and I have to say, it worked. It almost tasted like candy corn candy. I really liked it a lot. Service was good too. I'd for sure go back again.
I mean, I thought I reviewed this place immediately after I went, because in my head there are rave reviews. At the risk of being stoned to death, I will preface this by saying I am not a "comfort food" enthusiast. My husband served an LDS mission in the south, so he loves it. I came here to try something new but mostly to do something he was excited about. I'm so glad I did. We showed up on a Friday night at a pretty busy time, just after 6. There were people waiting, but we only probably waited 15 or 20 minutes before being seated toward the back of the restaurant by the restrooms. The place is comfortable and welcoming--brightly lit and clean. Our server was absolutely stellar, and I wish I could remember her name. But it was clear she enjoyed her job and loved the food as she raved about every item we chose. My husband got the red drink, which was good, but not really my thing. Our food came out quickly. I got chicken fried chicken with mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. I enjoyed all of it quite a bit. My husband got fried chicken with greens and black eyed peas. He loved all his food. He was a little disappointed that the chicken was boneless; I'm not sure why this is a priority for him as I am not versed in soul food. Honestly, I don't have anything bad to say. It was all around a great experience. If you haven't been here--do it soon.

Everything is prepared fresh. The fried green tomatoes were delicious, hot and perfectly cooked. The fried chicken was moist and savory, the catfish fresh and tender, not frozen. And the pork chop too delicious. I honestly wish the sides came out family style because they are so good. I would've liked to have tried them all. I definitely plan on going back!!!! I have to go back! I didn't have room to eat dessert this go around. The dining room was nice and clean, with a quaint style.

Went to an amazing dinner here with a large party (20+) and we had the chicharons, bacon fries, and blackened chicken wings to share. We loved all of these! The fries were a hit. I loved the wings! I shared the blackened pork chops and fried chicken. Each entree comes with two sides and cornbread, and I chose the spiced corn and mashed potatoes. Loved everything about my entree! I'd definitely come back if in the area. Service was great too and although it was a casual spot, the servers were very friendly and able to accommodate our large party being split up across multiple tables near each other. Tip: ask for a side of the soul sauce; it's amazing!

Draper, Utah Southern food? Fried catfish? All in the middle of Utah? I had to try it. This is a sit down and order restaurant. Very casual inside, white walls with metal chairs and concrete floor. Very simple. Very small space. About 14 tables. I have food, allergies, and the waitress answered all of my questions. But then she sent the chef/owner, Julius, over to talk with me. Pleasant man from Chicago. But his recipes are all from his family who lived in the South. I ordered the fried catfish which is accompanied with two sides. I chose the candied yams and the mac & cheese. My husband ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, potatoes, and gravy and the macaroni and cheese. Both plates are served with a slice of cornbread with a large honey butter smothered on top. The food came out very hot. The breading on the catfish is very thick and a lot of spices. I was pleasantly surprised when I cut my catfish and discovered it was deboned and tender. The mac & cheese was creamy and the candied yams were super sweet. Just the way I prefer them. They did seem a bit runny, but the flavor was good. The fried chicken was unbelievably moist. The breading was thick and crunchy. The mashed potatoes were of course, homemade with spices, and the brown gravy is chicken based. The cornbread was delicious. Comes with a slab of honey butter. I only wish it was served warm. It would've made the experience perfect. The food portions are large. The food has wonderful flavor with the perfect spice and southern heat. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I would give it 4.8 stars. The only two things that brought it down from a perfect score were the cornbread being cold, and the restaurant was not a cozy feel. Please come check this restaurant out and meet Julius.
Sauce Boss brings so much flavor and is just hands down delicious. Haven't had anything not good, but especially love the fried chicken and the fried green tomatoes. The Mac and cheese (golden splendor) is one of the better ones I've had. So glad we have them here!!
I didn't expect to find good soul food in Draper but here we are! Let's keep this restaurant around! I got the Mac and cheese and grits and both were very good, particularly the Mac. The cornbread was soft, spongey, and sweet. I only gave it four stars because while I enjoyed my blackened pork chops, they didn't blow me away. That said, my friend was raving about his fried chicken. Finally, the helpings were large - we were both stuffed and had leftovers. The service was amazing, the owner and chef stopped by and chatted with us for a bit, super nice guy. You can tell he puts a lot of passion, love, and skill into his food. I will definitely be coming back!
I saw sauce boss on tv and came to Utah for my son's soccer tournament so I had to come try it. Service was great. Portions were generous. Great atmosphere. Food was amazing. Chef Julius came out to greet and check on us himself. He was very genuine and kind. Would definitely recommend making a trip here.
We came to celebrate my son's birthday. Everything was excellent. There was so much food. Literally you won't go home hungry. Our server was super nice. She apologized for a couple things that were forgotten or that came out late. We also didn't have to wait when we got here, which was a bonus. The shrimp and grits were very tasty. The cornbread as well. I tried a little of others' food as well and it was all tasty. If you're in to southern food, come here. read more
I was super excited to enjoy this highly rated, local, restaurant. Together with my family, we arrived as they opened. I was surprised at the stark ambiance. Metal chairs and tables didn't feel like Southern warmth. But our server was so sweet and delightful. Even though it took a long time to get our food. But to be fair, there are several notes asking for patients in their slow service. Everyone in our party ordered something different. I love Southern cooking and ordered one of my favorites, shrimp and grits. It was uneventful. Seems like the chicken is what I should've ordered instead. read more

My goodness. This place has some of the best Southern comfort food I can remember. My boyfriend and I took his sister and her family here a couple of nights ago and it was a hit. The service was wonderful, the ambiance is simple and warm with the primary focus of this place being the food. Try everything! My personal favorites are the fried green tomatoes and the fried chicken with candied yams and fries. This place fills up VERY quickly though so make sure you get here when they open for a table, otherwise it's usually an hour + long wait (worth it though ;) ). They do take reservations but only for parties 6+ I believe! read more

It was our first of many visits to the Sauce Boss Southern Kitchen. The red drink was delightful, amazing flavors and super refreshing. I drank like 4 of them! Fried green tomatoes were BOMB! Crispy on the outside, silky smooth on the inside. Perfect seasoning. The ranch was the cherry on top. Got the catfish with collard greens and mashed potatoes. That gravy, dude, gold! Pure gold. The mashed potatoes were red potatoes with some skin left on, just the way I like it. My first time trying collard greens, I liked them more than I thought, reminds be of green beans with bacon. The wife got chicken fried chicken, fries and mac&cheese. The fires were super crispy. Chicken was fall off your chair good!!! Mac&cheese was creamy and flavorful. The corn bread was the perfect balance between sweet and savory, nice crispy edges and the middle was cake like. The honey butter on top was delicious. We've lived right by this place for years and can't believe we've never tried it. Had super high expectations going in based on the reviews, and it exceeded all of those expectations. Very friendly service and a well maintained space. The dining area is comfortable and the tables aren't crammed in so you do have a little elbow room which is nice. Complimentary pork rinds are given to each table and they were good. The food itself was good but I was sorely disappointed that the bowl of greens I ordered was really just a bowl of stems. The pork chops were flavored well and they were a nice size and the cornbread was also tasty. read more

We drove over an hour to try their shrimp and grits, but they were out of shrimp. It wasn't quite the same with chicken strips. We enjoyed all our sides though, of eat that cornbread every day. I'd like to try again if I'm in the area and they have shrimp available. read more

This restaurant is consistently tasty! They offer down home southern fare in a casual atmosphere with good service. You'll always find southern staples like fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, Mac & cheese (called Golden Splendor here), collard greens, black eyed peas, and cornbread among many others. Dinner always starts with a complimentary basket of pork rinds. The restaurant's and chef's origin story on the back of the menu is compelling. You'll never go wrong on a visit to The Sauce Boss! read more

My SLC friends were convinced that there are no good southern restaurants in Salt Lake City. Boy were they wrong! Being from the South, this food made me think someone's big momma was in the kitchen. Sauce Boss has been on our hit list for quite sometime and it did not disappoint. It's a nice little family restaurant in south SL. Ran by "the sauce boss" himself. Who has a great story to tell, read the menu. I love supporting local businesses trying to do good and give back. And the food they make is truly a gift. My wife commented that it was the best fried chicken she's ever had. Tender, juicy, not greasy, lightly battered, how do they keep the batter from falling off, goodness. So good I ate it without the sauce, although the sauce was really good too. Kind of a spicy maple. Fried chicken 5/5. Blackened pork chops, cooked perfectly, not sure what was in the sauce but it was very good on the chops. All sauces come on the side. 5/5 For sides we had the following; - Spicy corn, really good, but we've had some great maize, and corn dishes. 4/5 - Mac & Cheese, good but not the best I've had. 3/5 - Collard Greens, I hadn't had these before, they're a bit bitter, like Brussel sprouts, cooked very well. 4/5 - corn bread, good flavor, but mine was cold. I prefer my bread warm. Would love to see them add a corn bread skillet and serve it hot. 3/5 Service was excellent. Would highly recommend supporting this local gem. The owner is an author too, so we're going to pick up his book and then possibly have my wife use it at her book club. Book club at Sauce Boss would be awesome. read more

On Good Friday I got a craving for some fried fish and southern food sounded good. After a search I realized I had this place bookmarked but forgot about it! Everything was so tasty. As an appetizer you have a couple pork rinds and some special sauce to try. The fish had a lot of batter but it was flavorful. I loved the sides I got. Golden splendor aka mac and cheese and sweet potatoes were especially delicious. I also love corn bread. The ambience was busy and cozy but not too noisy. Service once we were seated was good, but our only critique is that they could have seated us and other guests a little sooner judging by all the empty tables at times. I don't know if they spaced it out like that intentionally or if the bussing and hostess crew was just slow. I'd go back for sure to try the fried chicken next. The owner came by to ask how everything was. Sweet guy and we can tell he loves what he does and serving delicious, quality food to his guests! read more

We came here on a Tuesday to check out the soul food as we don't have a lot of options here in Utah. The staff were quick and super nice. We got the fried chicken, catfish, chicken wings and a kids chicken tender. For the sides, we for yams, collard greens, splendor (Mac and cheese) and mash potatoes. All dishes came with a slice of cornbread. The fried chicken was super tender and delicious. There were some herbs in the seasoning which was different for a typical fried chicken but was still goods. The fried catfish was alright to me, it was soft but the seasoning wasn't anything extraordinary. I probably wouldn't get that again. My kids chicken tender was super dry so that was a little disappointing but she loveddddd the Mac and cheese. The collard greens and yam were super delish and would get that again. We also got the house red drink and sweet tea which were both yummy and refreshing! Definitely recommend. Overall, I would come back to try different items on the menu. Bonus is when the chef goes to each table and checks on their guests. I thought that was super cool and personable of him. read more

I had high expectations for Sauce Boss Southern Kitchen after hearing so many rave reviews, but unfortunately, it just didn't fully live up to the hype for me. While there were some highlights, there were also areas that fell flat. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits and the Fried Chicken with Candied Yams and Golden Splendor. The Shrimp and Grits had good flavor, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. However, the grits were too thick--almost like one big glob. It really needed a sauce or liquid to thin it out and bring everything together. The Golden Splendor had excellent cheese flavor, and the pasta was perfectly cooked, but it was very heavy and greasy. The Candied Yams were incredible--sweet, flavorful, and absolutely like dessert. I loved every bite. The star of the meal was the Fried Chicken--deboned for easy eating, with flawless flavor and crispy breading. It's easily the best fried chicken I've ever had. While the chicken itself didn't need sauce, I'm a sauce person, and the lack of sauce options was disappointing. The small amount provided (about two teaspoons) wasn't enough for two large pieces of chicken. The biggest letdown, however, was the atmosphere and service. The waitress was friendly but didn't refill our waters or check on us often, which made it difficult to ask for more sauce. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet many tables were sitting dirty with leftover food, and employees could be heard chatting in the kitchen instead of tidying up. It gave the space a messy and unkempt feel. While I had hoped for more, I'd still return--likely for takeout--because that fried chicken was outstanding, and I can pair it with my own sauces at home. There's definitely potential here, but my experience didn't quite meet the high expectations I had going in. read more
