I genuinely don't know how this place has such good reviews. This was our first and only visit here. My husband ordered take out from in the store. 1. The ribs were smothered in their raspberry bbq sauce which is just not good. Shame because the ribs were tender and cooked well. 2. The brisket. Who taught this person carving tonight how to cut brisket??!?! As someone who lived in central Texas for almost 6 years, the way this meat was cut was offensive. We got a a pound of brisket and they were cut into GIANT chunks almost an inch thick. Brisket is supposed to be SLICED and it's not supposed to be covered in sauce either. Thankfully the classic sauce is actually good but it ruins the bark!! The bark lost its peppery bite being covered in sauce. The point of brisket is it doesn't need sauce if it's done right. The chunks were so thick it made it chewy. Maybe if sliced thinner it would've been better. 3. The potato salad tasted like it was made with dole whip cream it was terribly sweet. The Mac and cheese had no flavor to it at all, and the beans were alright. 4. The sausage was flavorful and juicy. We finished that. I feel so bad for the people of Utah that think this is good bbq. It is not. I don't expect Texas bbq outside of Texas but this was just sad and not worth the $80 we spent. And what's worse is we are still hungry because the ribs were inedible and the brisket was so chewy. And, please please please go over meat carving with whoever was cutting the brisket this evening (4/7). read more

This is a cute little place with very nice employees but it was actually the worst quality barbecue food I've ever had in my life. The brisket was likely reheated and came with some barbecue sauce drizzled over it which was my first warning sign. The baby back ribs were tiny and also did not have much flavor and were likely reheated. I got the mixed veggies as a side and they were likely from a frozen bag and also had no seasoning or flavor. The one plus is they had Henry Weinhard's bottled root beer which was really good. I'm not sure if this place used to be good and just went downhill over the years or what? We were craving bbq so we decided to stop in. They were not busy at all on a Saturday at 4:30. We ordered the 2 meat platter one with brisket and Cajun sausage with mac and cheese and beans. The brisket was cut thick more of chunks. The Cajun sausage at first was not hot but as you continued to eat the bite came. It was good. The Mac and cheese was good also. The beans had good flavor. The other platter had chicken and pulled pork with mashed potato and corn. The mashed potato and corn were good. The pulled pork had great flavor and hit the spot with the table bbq sauce. I did try the heat and sweet with the pulled pork that was good. The chicken was different it had a little of gravy on it which was different. It tasted good. The ambience was welcoming and the music was nice. The service was nice and quick. The restaurant itself needs a little updating as there are peeling spots in the paint on the walls and ceiling. This place had so much potential. First off, the lady taking the order was brand new, which I normally don't mind at all, you're learning the ropes, but she messed up a major portion of the order, when she brought the food out and told her it was incorrect, she said "I don't know what to do about that." And walked away. We tried to fix it with someone else, they claimed we ordered something else even though I pointed at the exact thing I wanted, nothing. The price for the food was outrageous. Small portions for an absurd price, and not even great BBQ. Tough, not really flavorful at all. This place was incredible. Did the brisket Sammie with coleslaw on top, fries, and cornbread. Could eat it again for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff was super friendly. I've lived in Utah for about 5 years now and have eaten here a few times over the years. The flavor and quality has improved tremendously. The brisket 10/10. Sausage 10/10. Corn bread 10/10. Macaroni 8/10 and fries extra crispy 10/10. I've had bbq up and down southern California and PNW and whoever cooked up my to go order on sept 8th around 3 pm made this one of the best meals I've had. There are plenty of great BBQ joints in Utah County that are worth a visit, but as far as I've tried, The Smoking Apple takes the cake. The menu has plenty of options without being overly complicated and all their meat options are on par with any other BBQ restaurant you'll find in the area. What really blew me away were the sides. I was not banking on my house salad and cornbread but they were stellar and my entire group agreed the sides were better here than at any of the other competitors that we had tried. While their dining room isn't huge, they make up for it by having excellent interior design and quick service to keep the lining moving. The food was called out and ready within ten minutes, making The Smoking Apple an excellent fast, casual option for a work lunch. The cozy design makes it a fun option for a dinner date, however, the prices may not fit the budget of the average college student and this would be better for a family price or a couple looking for solid BBQ. To be clear, the prices are fair and totally worth it, but the average BBQ price is still going to be a little over most other dining options. read more

I have been meaning to try this place for a long time, so with a craving for some bbq, we ordered DoorDash. From the time our order was accepted to the time it was out for delivery was surprisingly fast! The food was still pretty warm when it arrived so we didn't have to reheat anything. The portions were large and I loved how they separated everything. They put my sweet potato and regular fries in labeled paper bags that they stapled closed. The fries were so crispy and delicious! Just pretty excited about the overall presentation too for being take out. Everything was so delicious. I had the Rodeo Sampler with the yummy chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and brisket with a side of fries and mac and cheese. The only thing I didn't love in the box was my pulled pork was a little dry, but I also didn't use any extra bbq sauce on it. The Pig & Stuff was also delicious and flavorful. My husband loved the cornbread and raved that it was incredible. In my opinion it was very cakey and crumbly. We were provided plenty of bbq and fry sauce (not basic fry sauce, but it was delicious). This is a pretty solid barbecue spot! I ordered through doordash, and picked the brisket plate with bbq beans, sweet potato fries, and cornbread. The brisket portion was a bit smaller than I expected, but it was pretty flavorful! The spicy bbq sauce they gave on the side was amazing with it, though. The bbq beans were good but a tad bit salty. Sweet potato fries were great and super unique! The sweet cinnamon coating and fry sauce took them over the top. Cornbread is one of my favorites as well, and this one did not disappoint. I didn't expect it to be a small building. When I walked inside from the cold winter, it was cozy and warm. Just like a hug! There were a group of people inside, but you can still social distance. However, as I said, it's a small building, so try your best to enforce social distancing. there were some corners in the place, so I wasn't too worried about separating from other people I was given a paper menu, which is a good thing since it can be recyclable and I don't have to touch menus without feeling paranoid. I ordered the two meat plate and picked pulled pork and Hickory Smoked Hot Cajun Sausage. I picked corn and mashed potatoes as my sides, and I chose the dinner roll as my bread. I wish I chose the cornbread instead, but the roll and pulled pork were a good combo! I love how the barbeque sauce is separated instead of it being poured around. Also, the sausage is delicious! The meal made me so full, but it's a good leftover for dinner. Right we were ready to leave, a group of people came in, but chose to sit by us out of all the places! Good thing we were done with our food. I heard you can order Doordash or pick up, so I suggest doing it. Their veggies were freshly steamed and came plain so I added a big pat of butter they had on hand. They have markings in the parking lot to direct you to drive thru or curbside parking with sign to text your name and stall number. The food was really good. I'm not big on bbq, but the pork and brisket was super tender and tasty. My family plowed through everything. One of my kids went back for seconds without hesitating. Very good bbq but the portions for the price just don't work. If they'll increase the portions,it's a home run. The only other thing they can do is lower their prices. Consumers love really good food, and they have that, but it's just a tad too expensive for what you see in the portions sizes. I was around $20 for lunch but I was hungry when I left. The cornbread looked great but it should just come with the meal and not be an extra couple of bucks. If you want imitation brisket, flies and no AC, this is your place. I literally was eating roast when I ordered brisket. There are so many other choices for Brisket and better BBQ. Good pulled pork barbecue, but not as good as in the Carolinas. After having spent 20 years in North Carolina, I was excited and pleasantly surprised to find a place offering pulled pork nearby. After a few times here, I can honestly say it's the best I've had in Utah, but I still miss southern barbecue. In the Carolinas, barbecue means slow-roasted pork and nothing else. I'm not sure I can really explain the jonesing that comes from a barbecue habit. I think it's a little like a sushi addiction. When you want some, nothing else will fit the bill. Good pulled pork barbecue is slow roasted. It takes all day to prepare it for dinner, and if you want it for lunch, somebody better have gotten up early. It is hand pulled apart, not cut or chopped, and topped with a vinegar-, tomato-, or mustard- based sauce. Traditionally barbecue is served with slaw (coleslaw) and beans or cornbread. Here the barbecue is cut into chunks with a little too much fat for my liking. But its still very good. My wife likes the crispy parts mixed in with the rest. The slaw is good, but the cornbread is a little sweet, tasting almost like corn cake. However, until I find better, I'll be coming back regularly to get my fix! read more

I think yelpers have this place about right. My review is based on one visit, and is somewhat slanted by me being in the BBQ business for awhile. First of all good BBQ and need to try it for yourself as BBQ is a lot like pizza . Everyone has their favorite style. His set up is efficient order move down the line a prep station consist of a cutting area and steam table for sides . . The coke machine is on a old table and in the way. I say lose it it sucks and sitting at the table you can see all the lines going to it. it just does not fit. The back of the place is full of old ovens and junk . Lose it too. Makes th place look like a dump. The smoker oven is stuck in the back door and works on pellets not real wood but bags of pellets stacked also in the back . It is stuck in a door leading to kitchen. I don't know about Utah, but my state wouldn't allow this. ( fire hazard and extra point for bugs flies and what ever else wants in the kitchen. My plate was brisket It's chopped) Mac and cheese, BBQ beans. Mac and cheese was bla no real signature flavor to order again. beans seemed forced as if some beans were out of a can and some different beans added just seemed forced ingredence and not balanced. I did not care for the corn bread . seemed like it was baked too high of a temp and too dry . it just crumbled apart. not moist and missing something (like butter or honey butter that should of been on the tray) . The brisket was lightly Sauced not drenched ( I like that) The product was on. point and enjoyed it My wife's pulled pork was moist and she liked it. She loved the chocolate cake as a side.
