The Engine Room is an amazing little find in the Ballpark neighborhood. This neighborhood pub on 300 West is an unexpected nice dining experience with a more expansive menu than you would expect in a pub. The decor is open and bright with garage doors that open allowing a feeling of fresh air in addition to a spacious outdoor patio space. Inside it's divided into a restaurant and bar (Utah liquor laws) so you have a choice of where to sit and enjoy your experience (with or without kids). They have many craft cocktails on the menu that are delightful. We tried the Steam Engine Power and the Up in Smoke. Both were flavorful and get your camera ready to enjoy the Up in Smoke experience. For dinner we ordered the salmon and the lemon pasta with chicken sarotonin. The salmon was in a ginger sesame glaze with rice and asparagus. A great combination of flavors and a perfect portion. The chicken was a huge breaded piece of chicken with lemon zest pasta. It was very tasty too however the pasta was a bit sticky/starchy. We mentioned this to our server and she said many folks comment that it's too sticky although tasty. Dinner menu prices are on the higher side of things for a pub but considering the presentation and flavor they are catering to a higher price point than a regular pub. We ran out of space for dessert but they do have several good items on the desert menu too. We'll be back again to enjoy The Engine Room. read more

We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and made a reservation a few weeks before for a Monday dinner. We sat down immediately when we arrived and our orders were taken quickly by Jill. Jill was very welcoming and nice with our table. Our drinks came out fairly quickly for our table of 9 around 7:05, but the food took much longer. 1 of 3 rounds of food came around 7:50pm and rounds 2 and 3 were about 10-15 minutes behind. The food took so long to prepare that most all of it was sitting under a heat lamp and while warm, was not fresh. For example, the cheese on my pizza was cooled enough that it became solid again. The braised short rib was also slightly warmed as well, not hot to the touch like it should have been. The most disappointing item was the French fries which was meant to be a shareable item for the table, and it came out at the very end. We were there for a total of 2.5 hours, most of which was spent waiting. I asked to talk to the manager, Alfredo, and gave my feedback in person and he was apologetic and stated that they were not expecting so many people, this is why they were understaffed, but didn't offer anything. I finally asked if there was something that can be done, then he said he could help us with our table's check, which I appreciated. They took 25% off and then provided a coupon for 10% off our next visit. I know their operations are new as of 4 months ago, but the fact that this restaurant group has 7 other restaurants in Utah, service, timing, and training really shouldn't be a problem. Came back again and brought a different friend with me because good food and good drinks need to be shared!! We started off with a couple of beers: Juicy IPA for her and a simple, yet refreshing Bud Light for me! We then shared a bunch of different snacks: Shishito peppers (cause I loved them so much last time), jalapeño poppers (phenomenal!), wings with sweet chili sauce (nice and juicy) and chicken taquitos (best I've ever had)!!! We finished with some fun cocktails! I had to get the I'm Pink Fitzgerald again, so fun!! She got the Up in Smoke and said it was the best smoky bourbon she's had!! Service was great! We liked it way more than I was anticipating The good - Great location with a good amount of parking - Plenty of TVs so great for game days - the steak queso dip was PHENOMENAL. Seriously so freaking good. The meat was perfectly tender and the cheese wasnt too heavy - Prime rib was cooked perfectly and was seasoned really well. Really enjoyed the sides. - bison burger was super tasty. The meat was not dry at all and the fries were the right amount of crispy. The bad - service was super slow despite it not being busy at all - not enough pita bread for the dip, we asked our server if it was extra to get more and he said hed ask but kept forgetting - the portion sizes with the prime rib were tiny, particularly with the potatoes - we came in during the Oscars show and asked if they could put on subtitles and the manager said theyre not allowed to? Strange but okay - the decor doesnt really much the vibe of the restaurant if that makes sense. It seems like.its lacking an identity or trying to be too many things. From the outside I thought it was going to be a sports bar with good food but the inside appears more upscale? The service was lacking and it was $23 for two tiny pieces of fish that were about as big as my finger if you want fish and chips go to red rock. This past Saturday (4/18/26) was my birthday, and I chose Engine Room for a celebratory dinner with my boyfriend and another couple. I had made reservations weeks in advance and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the night got off to an awkward start. When we checked in, the greeting felt off, and we were taken to a table that clearly wasn't ready--it hadn't been wiped down or set. We stood there watching it get cleaned, and even then, it didn't feel thoroughly done. Service throughout the evening was extremely slow. Our server was also bartending and seemed overwhelmed, likely due to several large groups (it honestly felt like a school dance crowd). We had to ask multiple times just to get a cocktail menu. When drinks finally arrived, they were good--but everything took far too long. We ordered jalapeño poppers and wings to start. The poppers were easily the highlight of the night. The wings, however, came out ice cold--not just lukewarm, but genuinely cold. To their credit, they replaced them quickly and apologized, but the second batch still only came out warm at best. By the time we ordered dinner, the pace hadn't improved. Each of us ordered something different, and across the board, the food was just... underwhelming. Nothing stood out. From our 6:30 pm reservation, we didn't leave until almost 9:00 pm--and not because we were lingering, but because everything took so long. I was offered a complimentary birthday dessert, which I appreciated, but at that point we were ready to leave. We ended up going somewhere else for dessert and drinks. The bill was far from cheap, which made the experience even more disappointing. I left feeling let down, especially for what was supposed to be a special night. I'm open to giving it another try, but if I do, I'll likely stick to shareables--and definitely skip the wings. read more

This is a very sleek gastropub. They are brand new so we decided to try them out! We had the steak fundido small plate which was delicious. Enjoyed a raspberry Italian ice. It had real fruit it in and very little sugar. The house salad was delicious and crisp. Hubby had the salmon which he said was perfectly cooked and he is very picky about his salmon. The salmon was crusted with shredded potato and it worked! The side of vegetables was very generous and had a good seasoning on it not just salt and pepper. The focaccia bread was a real standout topped with chopped fresh herbs and freshly baked. It was freshly baked with pillowy texture. The service was extremely attentive and the owner even stopped by our table to enquire after our experience. My water cup was never less than half full. The ambiance is steam punk industrial vibe and you must visit the restrooms too. read more

I recently visited Engine Room Pub, and what a cool concept! Located in a beautifully restored historic building that was once an industrial repair shop, the space itself is part of the experience. They've done an incredible job, preserving the buildings character, while transforming it into a warm, welcoming restaurant. The interior keeps the authentic industrial feel, exposed brick, metal accents, and thoughtful design details that pay tribute to the buildings passed without feeling overdone. The vibe feels elevated yet comfortable, making it perfect for a special night out or a fun evening with friends. The steak Fondido was absolutely outstanding! Rich, flavorful and perfectly executed. Their Craft cocktails were just as impressive: creative, beautifully presented, and incredibly tasty. You can tell a lot of thought when into both the food and drink menu. The service was stellar from start to finish. For a new restaurant, they really pulled it off seamlessly. We had a reservation and they offered us a table in the walk way, two direction. We said we would prefer a different table. They took us to the lounge. It was fine until we realized they were preparing to shoot a show. Equipment and people walking all around us. Setting up equipment next to us and telling us, oh you're not in our way. After eating a salad, I walked out to the matron and asked for a different table it was too uncomfortable. They moved us. They brought our food and never checked on us again. I ask our original server for a glass of wine. He said sure. It never came but, it was on the check. They comped our salad. I didn't care. Too late, the night was ruined. They are too unorganized to last much longer. The food was okay. It's a cute place. This was the second and last time we will visit. read more

We also got the spicy marg and the "don't let it bubble you" drinks, which were both excellent. Sebastian was our server and he was excellent. My 16 year old stepson has a number of severe allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, egg and sesame). When we arrived I wasn't sure if they would be conscientious about the allergies as it was more of a sports bar atmosphere. Our waiter was amazing and took the time to write down all of his allergies and went back and checked with the chef that no butter was used in the roasted potatoes. He verified that they only used olive oil and my stepson got a delicious short rib dinner with no issues. I got the chicken piccata and it was one of the best chicken piccata dishes that I have ever had. I was shocked as it is literally a sports bar. We just visited The Engine Room in Salt Lake City, and it was an incredible experience! We had the bison burger and the Italian sandwich, and both were absolutely amazing--full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Our kids enjoyed the chicken fingers, and the fat boy ice cream sandwich they gave them was THE BOMB! The environment was perfect for our family, making it a great dining spot with kids. Salad was under dressed so it felt like I was searching for more dressing. Overall the dressing needed some acid to give it more flavor. We both felt like it was not terrible but not awesome either. But they were yummy. Bread and butter- amazing bread! Cold butter. Onion burger with fries- 11/10 fries! Perfectly crispy. The burger was poor quality meat and under seasoned on a basic bun with UNCOOKED onions. What?! Short ribs with truffle mashed potatoes- ribs were 6/10; not dry but no flavor. Mashed potatoes- wouldn't know! See my notes on service below * Service - took 10 minutes to order drinks - didn't refill our water until we had finished main meals and asked for boxes - speaking of main meals.. apparently they were out of mashed potatoes. The server forgot to tell us before we ordered and when I was brought fingering potatoes instead, he jumped to "no swaps no comps" immediately. What?! Also.. how do you have fingerlings but no mashed? SQUISH THEM AMD ADD BUTTER AND GARLIC. I had looked forward to the dip! Fingerlings with the skin ARE NOT the same as truffle mashed taters!! Our server Alan, who was quite nonexistent during our dining experience, seemed too thinly stretched to follow up with a solution in a reasonable amount of time. A woman with long dark hair jumped in while Alan served other guests and left our drinks dry. She came back with 100% comp after I had requested 20-30%. Hell yea girl. Appreciate you. Mashed potatoes are sacred. We got boxes and the check and Alan was no where to be seen again. Total bill was $120 before the refund for the missed mashes. The food, relative to other places we frequent such as Franklin, is worth $85 at best pre tip. You pay via app- ew. Service stalled us while connecting payment long enough that we waited an additional 15 minutes before being able to call an uber. I hope this place improves. read more
