Still soft opening review: Food was very good, general manager - one of the co-owners, (apparently 9 friends, all from brooklyn but Caribbean decent, thus the bK9), was very friendly And went around introducing the restaurant and concept to us and other dinners. It was really a very pleasant experience, felt like a wonderful friendly family of owners who wanted to serve good food. And good food it was- had the oxtail empanadas and the pork belly apps- both amazing. Especially loved the beet purée with the empanadas, for mains we had the scallops and oxtail risotto - both were delicious. We were stuffed. Lacking one star because we got slower then average service - problems with orders going in at once and ordering / slow picking up the check and the wines the server advertised were actually not available yet. We still had a great meal and will be back! read more

This spot is in a prime location down the block from the Barclay Center. The most notable element of my dining experience was the excellent and warm customer service. For me, this tends to trump any other idiosyncrasies you may encounter at eating establishments. The Bajan rum punch was truly awesome. It had the perfect blend of spirits combined with a citrus punch which made it pleasantly palatable and not too sweet. While we dined on the jerk chicken and seared scallops, I found it tasty and solid enough to build upon. Because the cuisine has a Caribbean flair, I believe they are still testing out what flavors may be better suited for their current dishes. Realizing that this spot just opened up less the two weeks ago, if they keep up their excellent service and keep improving their cuisine, it can be a winning situation. Let me mention that the decor is lovely and warm, that of a rustic feel. There is s beautiful private space downstairs that leads to an outside balcony type space that is awesome. I do love the open kitchen which allows you to witness their culinary creations as they have acquired an executive chef. You should definitely check it out! read more

I wished I had read these reviews before I visited this place. It would have saved me my time and money. Every negative review, I just read is spot on. I arrived around 4 20p and stood at the door about 3 mins before I figured out no one was going to greet me and my friend. When I went to sit down, the bartender came from around the bar and told us that we had just missed brunch. He said we could sit at the bar and have drinks, food would be served at 5p. ok soooo around 515 , I said to the bartender can we sit yet and he said yeah and we order our apps and dinner. At 615p, I got my apps, which turned out to be cold soup, my home gurl never received her app. About 30 mins later we got our dinner. The whole time waiting my homegurl wanted to order anther drink and we could not get the waiters attention. He neverrr looked our way. When the food came the vegetables were cold. My salmon and rice were good. My homegurl plantains were raw and her oxtails had a strong stench of burnt. The bottom of the pot must have started burning and the smell permeated all the oxtails in the plate. There were a few gurls sitting next to us and I asked them how was their experience. one girl said this was her second time coming, they were so apologetic at the horrible service she got the first time, she decided to give them a second chance, now she's here and its the same horrible service. When their dinner came, after waiting an hour, the had to send back the whole fish she had order, It was not cooked well and she said her rice was ice cold. There were also a few ill-shaped woman that were sitting at the bar and they were helping here and there, but was spending most of their time oogling every female that walked into the restaurant, include my friend and new dinner guest. I asked the ladies who were these gurls and they said family to the manager. Why would family members be so unprofessional to the guest of the establishment. I see the manager apologizing to all the bad reviews on yelp and still when I walked in there yesterday, the service was still horrible!! read more

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat before a concert at the Barclays. Food is delicious! My husband and I split the oxtail empanadas and the Jerk Chicken entree- everything tasted fresh! Allow yourself extra time if you are in a rush (and if there is something going on at the stadium) because this place gets packed! Only gripe was Jerk Chicken entree was supposed to come with plantains- which it didn't. Only reason why we didn't say anything was because we were late to the concert! We will definitely be back though. read more

This is not a restaurant. This is no more than a bar that serves subpar, overpriced food. I had the scallops (which were okay), however, for $24 you only get 3 scallops and thats it. It felt more like an appetizer for one than an actual DINNER course. My mother had the steak with black rice. The rice was stuck to the plate and dry and she had 5 half inch square pieces of steak. I don't even know why they brought a steak knife because the actual steak was nonexistent. The drinks tasted watered down. The parsnip cake tasted like Starbucks lemon pound cake. Overall, the servers were friendly, but moved EXTREMELY slow. Absolutely no Caribbean atmosphere whatsoever. The place is not elegant as stated in other reviews. Would not recommend for a date or even a casual dining. I honestly think that the reviews on this page are not from real customers. VERY DISAPPOINTED! read more

My friend and I visited BK9 recently. We were seated and started reviewing the menu. A short while after we decided what we wanted the waitress came over, took our menus, and stated "Sorry we now have a different menu since it's late night". That was disappointing. When we finally decided what we wanted from the late night menu, she was nowhere to be found. I waved for one of the runners standing by the kitchen area to come over and we placed our orders with him. The food was ok. I had a chicken sandwich. Towards the end of our meal I noticed a gentleman two seats away eating a nice plate of griot. I'm thinking, "That wasn't on the late night menu!" Come to find out he was an owner...perks :) read more

After waiting over almost 1.5 hours for our food the oxtail was disgusting. It tasted like a big bowl of brown sugar. I came with a party of 14 and half of our entrees were cold. I am very disappointed and annoyed with this entire dinner. read more

Our waiter Craig was the best.. Great drinks.. Love the app bread and the food was great. Perfect for dinner date and business.

Tried this place for the first time ever yesterday. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. It was the best fried chicken and waffles I've ever had by FAR. My mimosa was excellent too. It is a bit expensive, but I cannot complain because it's Park Slope, and the portions are huge. Service was excellent too! read more

This place has a bottomless brunch cocktail deal. Great. Unfortunately the bloody marys are awful. I had one. It had no vodka. I asked for the check and was charged $10. The music is very loud. Will not return. read more

So i normally don't write reviews..but i had just had to. I heard about bk 9 and i was excited and interested to hear of a new caribbean restaurant coming to bklyn..i love caribbean food! I honestly was super disappointed! Just to get to the point the staff was decent, food overpriced and servings were tinyyyyyyy (so dont go there hungry)and it really lost the Caribbean authenticity. Sooo heres the story.... i went with my friend. We were greeted by the hostess. He brings us to our table and although friendly he proceeds to wipe the table with his bare hand..no towel wipe napkin or spray..but his bare hand.(hmmm strike 1). Then we order drinks .. after waiting 20 mins for my drink i was told by the waiter they cant make the drink i requested (fine..i ordered another one). He was apologetic and got my drink another 20 mins later. So we order appetizers...the jerk chicken...which was 3 tiny tiny pieces of chicken (fine.. its just the appetizers...right?). Then my friend and i order our meals. I had the salmon and she had the oxtail. The waiter brought out the wrong dish to my friend...which she had to wait for another 30 mins for her oxtail..(fine).although the oxtail tasted great there was only 2 or 3 pieces of it( i kid you not). The salmon i ordered was ok..i tasted the oil that it was pan seared in more than anything. So the stars i gave were for the decent staff n venue..if it wasnt for that i would have given the establishment less. Unfortunately as there are plenty of other caribbean restaurants in brooklyn area..i would not recommend this place to my friend or anyones who's hungry or anyone who knows real caribbean cuisine lol! read more

I made reservations here for Valentine's Day. The Prix Fix menu wasn't to our liking since there were item on it that my girlfriend was allergic to and others I didn't like. I called ahead and asked before making the reservations if the regular menu would be available. I was told absolutely! I booked the reservation because there were many other items that we both would enjoy. Our reservation was for 7:45PM but it took us 25 min to find parking. Worried about the time, I called when i realized we would be late. Someone answered the phone but never greeted me or responded. They just left the line open as I waited. Eventually they hung up on me. We decided to take a chance in hopes that we would be seated. When we got there it was pretty empty for a Valentine's night. We entered the restaurant and no one greeted us, which I thought was strange given there wasn't that many people there (at least upstairs). We moved in and asked if we could be seated, to which they said certainly. They asked us to have a seat at the bar while they got a table ready for us. Again, I thought that was strange because several table were open. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes making me feel like they strategically did that in hopes of us buying drinks at the bar. once I complained, we were seated 3 minutes later. The bartender came over and again asked if we wanted drinks. He was weird and we didn't understand his involvement with us at our table. A waiter came over and took our order but then 5 minutes later a young lady approached us and told us that we could only order the Prix Fix menu. We told her why we didn't want that and she went to talk to the manager and came back and said we could then order two specific items from the regular menu (Red Snapper or Jerk chicken) the jerk chicken was an appetizer. I wanted to leave but my girlfriend reminded me that it was late and Valentine's night...so we stayed and both ordered the Red Snapper. Throughout our dinner we could hear other tables complaining about different issues like they were out of various foods. The Snapper wasn't bad but it was very spicy and I don't eat spicy foods. It might have been nice if the waiter explained that when I was forced to order it. We both had our eye on the chocolate cake that was being served for dessert but was told that they ran out only to see two other people receive it 15 minutes after we asked for it. Obviously they didn't want us to have it since we didn't order the prix fix menu. I don't normally say this when reviewing a restaurant, but i will not return to this establishment because i felt like i was being "suckered" the entire time and no one tried to accommodate us in any way on such a special night. They won't get another dime of my money. read more

If you are hungry, this may not be the place for you. While the food is tasty, it takes extremely too long to receive it. BK9 does not offer a snack like bread or chips to offset the long wait. The staff should also be a bit more accommodating. read more

Coming here was unexpected. But let me tell you! From the kompa music being played to the service to the FOOD it was all AMAZING! Our sever Mikail was on point. He was very helpful when we had questions about the menu. Jerk chicken wings , oxtail empanadas, oxtail entree, and the Rude Boy punch was AMAZING!! read more

Hmm. Not sure where to start. We made a reservation. Got there on time. Stood at the door for 10 min before we got noticed. Noticed there was one waiter and he was running around like crazy. Got seated after 15 min after being noticed. Order was taken after 20 min of being seated. Was watching that the staff was crazy busy and looked really disorganized. Took half hour to get our drinks and one appetizer. Poor guy next to us ordered a burger and hat took about an hour. He was pissed to say the least. Our food took an hour to come out. We were told they double booked parties and were under staffed. The food was alright, nothing to brag about. MAYBE I will try agin another time when they are fully staffed. read more

I had really high hopes for this place. After numerous meetings and emails the end product was not what i had hoped for. There was a lack of communication and the bar manager was clearly intoxicated or just does not know how to communicate effectively with guests. After planning a big celebration for my boyfriend with 16 guest the options to buy drinks was simply to confusing for this establishment and it was not busy up stairs. The waiter was great she did the best she could under the circumstances. The owner Craig seemed to brush me off and i definitely had high hopes for him. However, the bar manager was the worst of them all. DID I MENTION I PAID THE ENTIRE BILL A WEEK PRIOR TO SERVICE INCLUDING TIP. 1100 to be exact. The service was horrible, the wait was way too long and overly priced for everything. I eventually had to get soda for my guest since i didn't get my first hour of soda and juice and i barely got water. And why the hell did we only have one server to handle us, if the top floor had no guest. The first hour of soda and drinks was included but no one ever got anything.Overall i have been here 4 times and will never spend a dime or send anyone to this establishment. Signed a angry customer who tried to support black business and it backfired on me read more

The restaurant is small and dark it took awhile for me to be seated the food was burned and not fully cooked the drinks wasn't amazing except for the wine I went there Saturday and Sunday morning or Sunday night or the middle of the night I got sick I have an upset stomach and today is Sunday evening and I'm still sick I couldn't even see the food if it was fully cooked I should have listened to my friend he told me it wasn't fully cooked or it was still raw well somewhat raw my other selection was dry and not tasty I will never go there ever again and thank you for making me sick. read more

We came here after going to a game at the Barclays Center. There were 5 of us and after initially ordering all our drinks and food when we sat down, we were almost totally ignored. We waited for an hour and a half for our food and they forgot to bring us our three appetizers that we had ordered. They offered to take them off the bill (I would hope so!) The other entrees came two at a time and not at the same time. The food was decent, but after waiting so long we weren't all that impressed. I would not go back or recommend to anyone. read more

We went to get a quick drink and a bite on the patio at BK9 before an event at Barclays - unfortunately there was nothing quick about this. Our waitress who was very sweet got five tables at the same time and was completely overwhelmed with zero help. I ordered a glass of rose and it came out cloudy and full of white chunks in a very dirty glass, just really gross- the table next to me had the same issue. I got the manager who was inside chatting with someone and clearly had no idea what was going on outside and hadn't bothered to check. He removed the drink and one other from the bill which I appreciate but I will not be returning. While some of the dishes on the menu sounded great, the restaurant seems to be poorly run. read more

Came here for an after work Happy Hour to celebrate a friend's birthday. BK9 is a short walk from Atlantic Terminal and on the same block as a number of other eateries/bars. I walked in and it looked pretty crowded/busy for a Tuesday night, which was good. So, I initially tried to sit at the bar-which didn't work, so I opted for a table. After realizing there was no one serving the tables, I stood at the bar for about 20 minutes trying to get the bartenders attention. She was the only bartender on staff and there were at least 20 patrons in the restaurant...I get it. Tried to put in two drink orders, but after I gave her one she turned around to attend to someone else ::eye roll:: She also found it necessary to keep reminding everyone within earshot that this wasn't her shift and that she wasn't supposed to be there, I guess to explain away her ineptitude. Nobody cares, just take these drink orders. The bartender who took over for her was much better. Anywho, my drinks, once I finally got them were very good... the Hispaniola was premixed, but sweet and strong. The rum punch had an overwhelming mango flavor, but was similarly good. My friends Jack and Ginger was good too. We decided to order food. I got the jerk wings and my friend got the griot. My jerk wings were nice and hot (temperature wise) but lacked flavor, they came with three dipping sauces and it would have been nice if the actual chicken was cooked with the sauces. Ordered a side of plantains; nice and crispy (just FYI plantains here, mean green plantains/bannan peze/tostones not sweet plantains/maduros). The pickliz (spicy pickled cabbage) was good, adjusted for "local" tastes, but good. My friend's griot had a good flavor, not as good as my mom's, but it was well seasoned. Unfortunately it was cold. She said the rest of her food was decent too. The owner (very friendly man) gave me a shot of hot chocolate (real chocolate, not swiss miss), which was interesting. Music was also very good, started playing kompa towards the end of the night. All in all, I had a good time and definitely want to come back with the hopes of being overwhelmed. Place has lots of potential and despite a few hiccups, I would recommend it. read more

We've been watching this place go up with anticipation for probably 2 months now. Now that it's open, it's probably my new favorite BK restaurant!! Atmosphere was super chill, food was amazing, and drinks were off the chain! On the recommendation of the owner, I tried the goat, and it was really flavorful and delicious! My date had the hanger steak, which did not disappoint. We each have a backup choice for our next time back, and I'm glad that they are open on Saturdays, because we're coming back with our friends for brunch! read more

Delicious cocktails and food! Highlights were the oxtail empanadas and the jerk chicken. We came here a couple weeks after BK9 opened and everyone was so excited and welcoming. BK 9 the place to be let support black owned business... staff was very friendly and music was great loved it

Went here with four of my friends.. The decor is pleasant kinda of rustic.. Our waiter Craig was wonderful and the owners were also pleasant and accommodating.. They went above the call of duty to make sure we felt welcomed and every thing was up to par.. The drinks were also tasty..my food was ok I had the Braised pork belly appetizer yummy and the scallop and spinach entree just ok totally needed salt....And that folks was about it and where it Ends....my friends meals were not good At All!! They had the jerk chicken appetizer which was bland and tasted like no seasoned baked chicken with hot sauce on the bottom. The oxtail (off the bone) meal had a sort of vinegar taste to it and left an after taste.. The snapper meal was only seared on one side however the escovich veggies were tasty.. One friend sent back their chicken appetizer just couldn't eat it, , one friend only ate her jerk chicken appetizer because she was starving and the other sent back the oxtail meal.. The owners were as I mentioned extremely attentive and took the food off and even offered two of my friends free meals if they return .. I don't think so.. read more

I had the pleasure of feasting on a meal of hanger steak with diri jon jon rice (black rice) with some sort of creamy delicious lentil sauce. Came here about 2-3 weeks ago on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks with friends. I will say first off the place is nice. Loved the ambience for this new restaurant in park slope. We ordered a hennesy drink mixed with something that was very good. I would say our food order took almost 2 hours to come out. If my friend and I weren't having girl chat while sipping on our cocktails we really would be upset, but we asked about 2 times once to the waitress and another to one of the owners. The owners were pretty hospitable to my friend and I which we appreciated it very much. All and all our orders did come out. Cod and Cassava Croquette ( was ok as well could of been seasoned a bit more) and the jerk wings. (wings were ok not really jerk but the owner said they are working on it). I did like the guava and cassava bread that was bought out prior to our order, it was different and tasty. All and all we enjoyed ourselves here. Although the food took hours to come out and was just ok, BK9 gets a thumbs up from us because during the course of the night we happen to meet several of the owners (there are 9 of them hence the name) and they asked how was the service (which we were very honest with them and they accepted the constructive criticism). The conversation with the owners kind of happened organically, we happen to be seating across from them and notice they had some burgers and fries so I just asked wait where did you get that from I didn't see that on the menu. Come to find out they have a late night menu (we were there Yes for that long came around 8 didn't leave until way after 12am) They have a late night menu which I would go back and check out along with the drinks. The drinks were A+++++. One of the owners comp'ed us some drinks as well. It was great talking to the owners and getting to know the individuals behind the business of BK9. They also have a downstairs area for dancing that was playing some really good reggae music, Def will be back soon to check out the downstairs area. read more

Where to begin. Everything was enjoyable about this place, the ambiance, the graciously efficient staff and of course the food. I was happy to see a lovely wine list and even happier to find that my oxtail was above and beyond what I was expecting. It was so flavorful and tender, I couldn't ask for more! I definitely recommend this place for wonderful service, lovely atmosphere, a variety of cocktails and amazing Caribbean fusion food. read more
