Been here a few times; the food has been consistently good, although I can tell when there is a different chef as the food can be prepared a bit differently from time to time it seems. I'll try not to make this into paragraph but... I've never felt so disrespected in my life. And I still don't understand what happened fully all I know is I'm still shocked! My friend and I walked in there and all the customers just stopped and looked at us like a weird look and went back eating and that alone made us uncomfortable.... Then we see people hustling and bustling and doing their thing. And then this woman who appeared to be the host passed us TWICE and didn't even acknowledge us at all... and we both saw her watching us in the corner of her eyes. She KNEW we were there but just didn't want to say anything. Let me just say that was our first time stepping up in that place I've literally never even heard of this place until a couple of days ago.... After waiting for 5 mins with people passing us not asking us why we're standing or if we had a reservation, which we did it was for 6:15, we walked right out! I don't recommend this place to anyone because the people who work there and the customers are really strange. I honestly feel like it's because we didn't look like them (their customers majority of them are Haitian). Which I know it sounds fucked up because my bf is Haitian and he and his family are very nice. But after telling him what happened even he said some Haitians act like that and I was shocked. We had a reservation at 4 for 3 people. We had to flag someone down just to order after sitting for 30 minutes. Another 30 minutes down we still haven't gotten our food nor has anyone even refilled our waters the least you can do. I've had bad service before but this takes the cake. It almost felt like they were intentionally not serving us which felt like a slap in the face. The table in front of us was seated for about 20 minutes ordered food and drinks and received their food at about the same time as while we were seated for a full hour before we got food. ONLY WHEN some gentlemen started his shift after we were there for 45 minutes did we finally start getting proper service. Thank goodness he came. We asked 2 people for barbecue sauce. One was that gentleman and one was the woman who served us. The gentleman got it for us right away. I hate that the food was actually decent. I was in the area and decided to check this place out with a coworker. We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon and were told that the kitchen was closed until 5pm, but the bar was open. Thankfully, the chef was very accommodating and whipped up their famous oxtail empanadas for us. Let me first start off by saying that these were by far the best empanadas I have ever tasted. The best way to describe the favors is like an explosion in your mouth. There were so good we placed two orders. The drinks were amazing as well , strong and perfectly mixed. Came for brunch. Service was horrible. Took 20 minutes just to get two drinks, we waited 45 minutes for the first dish to show up out of our group of four. All of our dishes came at different times and they had all been sitting out as they were all cold when they reached our table. The Hamburger was burnt to a crisp resembling a hockey puck, the french toast was burnt bruschetta bread that you couldn't cut into, and the waffles were soft and cold when they finally reached our table. The rum in the syrup was over powering almost as if they poured straight shots of rum over the cold floppy waffles. None of us in our group ate our food. The food is very pricey, portions extremely small and the menu lacks any Caribbean touch - especially the food. My family came in town from Washington DC and I decided to take them to enjoy a comedy show on June 27th 2018. I was pleased to find it was held at Black establishment. My joy turned to frustration when we had to rely on the comedy host to constantly find us a server. The show took place in the basement and it often felt as if we were forgotten or not important enough for the server to just check-in on. My husband and I had dinner here at BK9 and as soon as we walked in, the waiter who greeted us was not warm or inviting....as a matter of fact he didn't even look like he wanted to serve us. My husband noticed the unfriendly manner after our waiter seated us, but I told my husband to give it a chance. After giving us the menu, our waiter did not mention any of the specials they had listed on the chalkboard outside the restaurant, nor did he mention that they were out of their oxtail dish.....he told us after I ordered it and that's what we were looking forward to. I'm sorry but at any restaurant you go to, aren't the specials and dishes they are already out of the first thing you tell your customers???? Since they were out of oxtails, I ordered their seared scallops and my husband ordered jerk chicken as his appetizer and for his entree he ordered their 16 oz. Berkshire Pork Chop. When my husband tried their jerk chicken, let's just say that it wasn't really jerk. Yes, it was juicy, however, there were no jerk seasonings or rub on the chicken. In addition, the chicken was not cooked all the way through so he did not eat the rest. They gave three pieces of chicken and out of the three pieces only one decent enough to eat, the remaining two had raw patches not cooked. When we brought this up to our waiter, he told us that the chicken does not get cooked all the way through. Hearing that the cooked is not even cooked all the way through is a huge turnoff!!! And on top of that, the waiter was not even apologetic about the chicken not being cooked all the way through which was a HUGE disappointment. After taking away the uncooked chicken we waiting for more than 30 minutes for our dinner to arrive. When dinner FINALLY arrived it was decent. My husband's pork chop was not bad but it was definitely NOT a 16 oz - now I'm not sure if it's really a 16 oz pork chop or if that was the name of the dish, but it was not a huge pork chop. It looked like a regular pork chop but not worth $29. It's not like it was a steak or huge in size, it was a regular pork chop with squash and greens dressed up on a dish, nothing special. My seared scallops were decent. Good flavor, not rubbery and had a nice crust. It was served with creamed spinach, pomegranate, and polenta. They could have done without the pomegranate, I didn't see the point of them in the dish except to add color, but it didn't do anything for the dish. And as for the polenta.....I had no idea it was polenta and you wanna know why???? It was about the size of one of my scallops and I thought it was a piece of plaintain.....again, if you're going to give me polenta at least give a decent amount. Overall, the service was lacking, the food was ok and not worth the price of $24 and $29. I could have gone to a restaurant in the city or another restaurant in Brooklyn and gotten better service and food. In addition, the waiter did not even remove the uncooked chicken from our bill. First of all, the food is OFF THE CHAAAAAAIIIINNNN. It's a tad pricier, but for the quality and fanciness, they could be charging way more. It would be a good place to bring a date if you want to take her to a nicer place, and not totally break the bank. She will be impressed with the presentation of the food. It is Creole, and everything I had was the best of that ever.. even the brussel sprouts, THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD without a doubt. They sprinkled magic in them... must have. The staff is genuinely friendly, I mean like, they obviously care that you feel comfortable. Relaxed vibe. One of the owners visited our table and by the time we left we felt like we were a part of their circle. Such nice dudes, for real real. I will definitely go back any chance I get.. My friend and I were walking down 5th ave on our lunch break and saw the menu which looked interesting enough to try. The ambiance and music was on point and would be a nice spot for a date. I ordered the plantains with callaloo and smoked mozzarella which I think would a little more tasty for someone who is used to eating callaloo, which I am not, although I've had it before. I also ordered the jerk chicken and french fries. Let's lead off with the positive first, the chicken was moist and plentiful and the french fries were crunchy and not salty. I was not a fan of the jerk chicken, it was like they took chicken tenders, seared it and threw the jerk sauce over it. I am used to jerk chicken from the grill and not covered in sauce but more rub with a little sauce. My friend got the mixed veggie dish with Haitian style rice, which she said was delicious. Also, I took a while for the food to come so we ended up having to take it to go. I am giving the food a three but the service a 5. Charlie was our waitress and she was friendly and nice and when we told her that we needed to get back to work and asked to have the food to go, she did so without hesitation and moved quickly. I have been to BK9 many times. The food is AMAZING and I love the atmosphere especially on Sunday afternoons. I just wish there were more room/space. My favorite dish is the Pork Griot. I am Haitian and I approve that dish 100%. I will be having my birthday dinner there this Sunday afternoon, 10/14/18 so I am praying to enjoy my meal and the ambiance with my friends. This place will NEVER see me again. BK9 is utter trash. I went there last week Sunday for brunch with my girlfriends, from the time we encountered the host her attitude was PISS POOR! She wasn't welcoming, very passive aggressive. My friends and I dined outdoor and it was a nightmare the moment we sat down. It started when we we inquired about the heating lamp and was told that "it takes awhile to come on". Keep in mind, it was very nippy that day and the lamp should've been on. The RUDE host seated us with no menus. A waiter came over said she would be back with the menus, she failed to return. Another waiter comes over, and then she noticed we did not have menus so she went to get. After 10mins we finally receive menus, we order. We ask again to the waiter that took our order if she can get someone to turn on the heating lamp. A man from the back brings out one heating lamp, he sets it up but behind us. He then comes back out with another heating lamp, set's the lamp up directly in front of our table. It was like "You asked for this, so here it is". As we're eating, conversing, a sudden bang/loud noise happens and when I look, the ENTIRE heating lamp has toppled over onto our table, spilled over drinks, utensils, food etc. The heating lamp was on but it was on low, THANK GOD! It just missed our hands, and cocktails. Had that lamp would've knocked the cocktail over, without a doubt, the table would've caught on fire. A waiter rushes over, we're all in complete shock, she asked if we were OK and then says "what drink did you have" EXCUSE ME? What's really important here? The waiter then proceeds to ask me "are you still working on your food'? Ma'am, a heating lamp just fell over into my meal, why would I continue to eat this? At this point, I'm pissed. From the beginning the service trash and now this? There was no sense of empathy from the staff. The man who set up the heating lamps came out to assist with clean up but his response was "Oh i was just trying to keep you all warm" Really? First of all, the heating lamps were on a a tripod. He did not think to secure the lamps by placing sand bags on or near the legs. It was hazard from jump. He now asked if we wanted our meals over, my friends said "yes" but at this point, I was already over it so I asked for a cup of tea. The (rude) host brings the tea out but she brings it out with the snarkiest attitude "Someone ordered another tea" ? My friends are looking at her with the blank stare. First of all, the damn heating lamp just almost caused a fire with major injuries and you don't say anything? We know the waiter and the staff came back & told you what happened & she's still carrying on unnecessarily. No remorse, just all attitude like we did something wrong to her. Now I'm ready to go off so I asked her "is there a problem, because I can solve it" she proceeded to walk away, back into the restaurant. My friends and I looked at each other and we collectively got up and left. The host was asking to get snatched up but we weren't going to stoop down to her trashy level. The food is amazing and music was good. However, I had the worst customer service known to man. As soon as I came in, there was no host stand. With a group of 6, we were looking really confused. A waiter came and spoke to us. He was super nice. We decided to get a drink at the bar as we waited. It took over 15 minute to get the bartender. We found a waiter who look like JCOLE and asked him is there a way for us to get the bartender. With a nasty tone, he said we had to wait because the place was really busy. We took it and waited. They we sat, our waitress SHANTE had attitude the entire night until the bill came she immediately switched her attitude. Thank God for the food, we waited 45 min between every drink or meal. I came here to eat last night and had really high hopes of a delicious meal because of all the positive reviews; unfortunately my experience here left me very unsatisfied. My friend and I ordered pepper shrimp (not spicy at all), griot (very bland),oxtails and fried plantains which were both very salty I couldn't even finish my meal. We ask for condiments and unfortunately our server forgot to bring it to us (the restaurant was practically empty). And to top off the horrible meal our coffee tasted like pure vinegar! The woman at the next table were fuming and cursing and rightfully so: the missing items like the oxtail were the most Caribbean. We settled for the appetizers, which were good. The nouveau take on classic Caribbean food is worth doubling the price of stuff you can get at hole-in-walls up north in crown heights. I arrived around 4 20p and stood at the door about 3 mins before I figured out no one was going to greet me and my friend. He said we could sit at the bar and have drinks, food would be served at 5p. ok soooo around 515 , I said to the bartender can we sit yet and he said yeah and we order our apps and dinner. At 615p, I got my apps, which turned out to be cold soup, my home gurl never received her app. About 30 mins later we got our dinner. The whole time waiting my homegurl wanted to order anther drink and we could not get the waiters attention. He neverrr looked our way. When the food came the vegetables were cold. My salmon and rice were good. My homegurl plantains were raw and her oxtails had a strong stench of burnt. The bottom of the pot must have started burning and the smell permeated all the oxtails in the plate. There were a few gurls sitting next to us and I asked them how was their experience. one girl said this was her second time coming, they were so apologetic at the horrible service she got the first time, she decided to give them a second chance, now she's here and its the same horrible service. When their dinner came, after waiting an hour, the had to send back the whole fish she had order, It was not cooked well and she said her rice was ice cold. There were also a few ill-shaped woman that were sitting at the bar and they were helping here and there, but was spending most of their time oogling every female that walked into the restaurant, include my friend and new dinner guest. I asked the ladies who were these gurls and they said family to the manager. Why would family members be so unprofessional to the guest of the establishment. Stopped in for a quick bite to eat before a concert at the Barclays. Food is delicious! My husband and I split the oxtail empanadas and the Jerk Chicken entree- everything tasted fresh! Allow yourself extra time if you are in a rush (and if there is something going on at the stadium) because this place gets packed! Only gripe was Jerk Chicken entree was supposed to come with plantains- which it didn't. Only reason why we didn't say anything was because we were late to the concert! My friend and I visited BK9 recently. We were seated and started reviewing the menu. A short while after we decided what we wanted the waitress came over, took our menus, and stated "Sorry we now have a different menu since it's late night". That was disappointing. When we finally decided what we wanted from the late night menu, she was nowhere to be found. I waved for one of the runners standing by the kitchen area to come over and we placed our orders with him. The food was ok. I had a chicken sandwich. Towards the end of our meal I noticed a gentleman two seats away eating a nice plate of griot. I'm thinking, "That wasn't on the late night menu!" I had the awesome opportunity to attend the Grand Opening of BK9 on August 31st. I am not a real foodie but the food was amazing. I had the jerk chicken appetizer and the Crispy Snapper entrée. The plating for both was exquisite. I usually do not finish all of my meal but I finished and desired more. I ordered the jerk chicken appetizer to take home and share with my husband and he enjoyed. My date for the evening was my 17 year old son who really doesn't like anything else but fast food, however he tried the Hanger Steak. He loved it. It was a great evening and the location is great, 2 blocks from Barclay's. Love this place and will definitely return. I have already recommended to all my Brooklyn friends. read more

Tried this place for the first time ever yesterday. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. It was the best fried chicken and waffles I've ever had by FAR. My mimosa was excellent too.
