I recently hosted my best friend's 40th birthday at BK9. The staff (Craig and Maya) were very responsive via email during the planning stages of the event. We were able to host 40 guests in their downstairs private room. We opted for the pre-fixe menu for the event (They had several menu options with different price points). We were able to decorate the private room and play music to our liking. The day of the event went off without a hitch. The servers were attentive and the managers made it a point to introduce themselves to me and offer additional assistance for the event. I was very pleased with the service as well as the food. I went to this trendy Caribbean joint after visiting the Brooklyn museum. I had the jerk chicken, which was scrumptious! The sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The portion was generous for the reasonable price. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop entree, and cleaned his plate. It was served with delicious collard greens over a butternut squash sauce, which complemented the pork rub well. The service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly, so we didn't mind. Best Caribbean food we've ever had. The jerk wings were great, and we loved the sauces- very unique and flavorful. We also loved the Haitian black rice; we scarfed it down. Came here with Saturday night with some friends and sat at the bar. It wasn't crowded until we started ordering our food. I ordered the hanger steak. Substituted my mash potatoes with French fries and it also came with brussel sprouts (which I love). Sad thing is I never got to enjoy my brussel spouts because they never came with my meal. By the time I finished my food I told the bartender to forget the brussel sprouts. Not sure if I will return. read more

Two friends and myself stepped in here recently to order food to-go. The first hostess was friendly, and offered to discuss with us more about the menu and sides that were not listed on the physical menu. She informed us it would take about 6 minutes for our orders to be ready. We didn't mind, and stepped outside. I noticed there was a easel outside promoting slushy drinks, and I went back in to add that to our orders. There was another hostess now who came in, and she actively IGNORED ME AND MY COMPANY. I waved from a distance, she saw, and proceeded to walk further into the back of the place. But, when a white woman waited near us, she looked in our general direction and told her to come and zero'd in at my company and said "not you." Two white girls then walked in and asked me if the place serves alcohol. I said "that's what I'm trying to find out." And a male host appeared and began to SWEET TALK THEM... WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL. He took down their orders--and mind you, I was waiting before them. Me and my company were perplexed, but we knew exactly what was happening. We were never able to order the drinks, we never got our food, and left 20 minutes later. This is a black owned restaurant. I came with my family on a Monday to celebrate my sister's graduation. Big mistake...The food was horrible. I ordered the jerk chicken and it was undercooked. My mother ordered oxtail and it smelled funny like it was burnt. The portion of rice that accompanied the food was so small and equally tasteless. Another thing I need to mention is the waitress. Jazz brunch at BK9 was excellent! Live jazz, good people and great food. The Caribbean Eggs Hollandaise with shrimp was to die for!!!!! The salad with dressing was perfect. The mango mojito was refreshing, not too sweet. Had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners; a distinguished gentleman named Nerva who showed so much hospitality and was extremely gracious and attentive to the room. Would definitely recommend the brunch. I plan to visit on a Friday and/or Saturday for dinner and drinks, they said they have a live DJ. Absolutely recommend and will be visiting again! read more

Amazing food. Great atmosphere. A friend and I went for brunch. A month later, I went back for dinner. The menu is constantly changing but the food... it's worth the wait of having every meal specially made for you while you sit and people watch. The night we went, someone was at the bar & either had just a little too much to drink or hadn't been out in a while. Well she sang & danced to every single song that played. It kept us entertained until our food arrived. Even while we were eating the entertainment continued. BK9 is a great meet up spot or date night or grab a bite to eat during those haunting hours of "damn I'm hungry and it's 3 a.m. but where can I go to get great freshly cooked food that hasn't been sitting under a heating lamp." I walked in and waited a while for service ( there was a mixup with with reservations) but everything was handled accordingly. As soon as I sat down around 4 PM, I was told that brunch was nearly over and the cooks had to switch over for the Dinner Menu ( I was dying for those Mimosas but gotta make the best of it) It was a great thing I missed Brunch ! This was my first time going to this restaurant. I must say I was extremely disappointed. The waitress did a good job but some of entrees on the menu was suspicious. Especially the Haitian portion of the menu. We ordered the Griot and Legume entrees. The griot had no seasoning, the picklez taste like coleslaw with a hint of vinegar. The legume had no meat and taste more like a dessert because it was sweet. Why would you put sugar out of all ingredients in legume? Where they do that at? My suggestion is to hire a real Haitian chef or somebody Haitian mother that can throw down in the kitchen. Hell... y'all can borrow my mom if y'all want. read more

This daily new restaurant has been a great experience so far. I drove past it on 5th Ave & the music was an eye catcher. I decided to stop in with my date & the location is very modern & the decor was very nice. The smell of the food was amazing but what has me returning are because of the drinks. There is an amazing bartender names Mia that makes the best drinks & the cost of the drinks are fair. The atmosphere is good low key but classy. My new favorite spot. There were seven of us celebrating a birthday and we showed up with no reservation and the waitress accommodated is in about 3-5 minutes and it was crowded. A big fan of this place after coming here with a group of friends. The food is authentic and the presentation is splendid. The one thing I did not appreciate was that we had made reservations but were still made to wait for a bit. I had the Red Snapper which was really good -- don't recommend if you're not used to bones in your fish but it was totally worth it to me. I've came to BK9 three times in from the spring-summer 2019 and I must say, even tho the food portion size is small; the food always hit ! Flavor, preparation, presentation ... the food is really good. BK9, for me, is one of the spots you can end a night to. The first time I went, there was an event going on, so the spot got a bit crowded. During the beginning of that time, I did get a little agitated, but after a while ... music started to play for the event and became a good vibe. The second and third time was not like the last; there wasn't an event going on nor was it crowded. I sat by the bar one of those times and everything was cool ... the bartender was engaging and the vibe was calm. So I would always go back here. It's a new Caribbean American feel to it. The dishes are creative, the drinks refreshing (though I think they pour a little light, unless my bartender didn't like me) but I had about 3 drinks and it was all I needed to get the night started the food is good. This was my first time here and unfortunately my last. The waitress served our appetizer (calloo and plantain, which was horrible) and never bought us plates until I had to ask for them. Then our food took about a hour to come out even though it was only myself and friend in the restuarant. The waitress was on her phone a majority of the time we were in the restuarant and never asked how our food was. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

Four of us stopped by BK9 for drinks and some light snacks on a Thursday evening before catching a game at Barclays Center. So glad we did! We ended up seating in the back garden area, which was pleasantly quiet and beautiful, with strung lights and flower boxes. The wine/beer was very reasonably priced, the food (spicy shrimp appetizer) was delicious, and our server, Craig, was THE BEST. Saturday afternoon, before Labor Day, my mother and I drove from Westchester to Sunset Park Brooklyn to pick up a friend and head over to BK9 for brunch. Our mouths watering from reading reviews (apparently not enough reviews were read) and menu descriptions. It was not good. My mother ordered the Chicken & Waffles brunch meal, and a side of scrambled eggs. The eggs were tasty, according to mom, but the waffles were tough and without flavor (even with the syrup), the chicken was tough , overly cooked, and did I say tough, and the potatoes were tough and bland. I ordered the Caribbean Benedict. The potatoes were bland and tough, the pulled pork not at all flavorful, and the plantains were hard and tasteless. My friend ordered Oxtail Hash. Same issues. None of the food tasted like Caribbean, everything seemed as if made a couple of days in advance, and re-heated. My Pinor Noir was fab, my friends Rum drink was fab, and my mom loved the coffee, but said it was very strong. They gave us free desserts (I passed), and took 20% off the bill. Inside looks good, location is fine, parking was not that difficult, but the food man, the food. I would not recommend and not return. THIS FOOD HAS NO CARIBBEAN FLAVOR PERIOD. The waitress was nice. THIS FOOD IS NOT GOOD. PARTIES OF 3 OR MORE, MANDATORY 18% GRATUITY. Only $4 more than I had planned to give the waitress. Really, honestly, the food is not good. Nothing to wrap up except my mom's scrambled eggs. I have no history on this place, so I can't say if this was a bad day, but all three meals sucked. Not returning. I so wanted it to be good. Visited BK9 on a Sunday early evening. Upon arrival we were greeted and immediately sat and a table near the door. We decided to order a few appetizers to get a feel for the food. We ordered: jerk chicken, Brussels sprouts, ceviche and Pork belly The jerk chicken was cold. The ceviche was poorly cooked in lemon juice. It just didn't taste fresh. The Pork belly was ok. This place was great. Let me start by saying they have excellent service. They are so kind and accommodating. That goes a long way for me. We had Sunday brunch here and we also brought 3 kids with us and the staff was so good with them. Brought out some fries right away for them. They gave us a waffle originally that was cooked too hard but they replaced it immediately with no attitudes or questions (the waffle was delicious by the way). Our waitress was great with the mimosa refills. The oxtail hash was really good. All food came out hot. Overall a very nice place, nice atmosphere, and a delightful staff.
