If it were possible to give no stars I would. What a disappointment. We were excited to go in because of the jazz, but quickly realized that was the only appealing thing about the place. We ordered a couple beers and they were completely flat when they arrived. They need to get their taps checked. We waited an hour for our first course after we ordered and when it arrived it was ice cold. The service was terrible at best, bouncing around the restaurant like crazy, it was very odd. It was an overall bad experience and I would not recommend coming here. After waiting so long and receiving the cold food, we left immediately. read more

I was at BK9 on Saturday and it was an experience. The food was amazing! I loved the food and really passed the exceptions I had. It was the only place open nearby with food and cocktails (it was 12 am) so I wasn't expecting amazing food but I am glad I was wrong. I am not sure what happened I was hearing the bartender and kitchen staff was drunk because it did take the food and drinks a while to arrive. The waitress was very sweet and I over all enjoyed the experience. read more

Brunch review: Fresh high quality ingredients and great staff! I order the banana rum waffles which doesn't disappoint and a perfect amount of sweetness and savory. Chicken & waffled were delicious, portion size is fairly large including the salad and potatoes that accompanies every brunch entree. Definitely need to come back and try out the dinner menu, Thanks again for the amazing hospitality Gary! read more

I have been to Bk9 multiple times and have not been disappointed. I came here for Brunch, dinner and late night. The food was on point! I have eaten their chicken sandwich, oxtails and jerk wings. Everything good to the point where I had nothing to take home. Service was just as good. The music... You would really be in your seat vibing, dancing, wining all of that. Whatever playlist they have it is good ! read more

Really GREAT place!!!!!!!!! Was like going to a family member's house for Sunday dinner

So I have been to BK9 many, many times and this most recent visit will be my very last time going. The food is always on point but a MAJOR part of going to restaurants, is about the overall experience and customer service. We were a group of 4 and the male host graciously let us sit inside without a reservation but informed us the we had 1.5 hours and we were done at the requested deadline. We were charged for 3 items that we never received and while waiting for that to be corrected, we overhear the "manager" say, "some people just don't know when to leave...." - now it get it, sometimes you get stressed at work and just blurt your inner thoughts out but as one who is the daughter of NY restaurateurs, making your guests feel welcomed is premier. We spent close to $300 in the 1.5 hours we were there and overhearing the restaurant's 'face of the establishment' say that, put a damper on a day where I was celebrating the work of 3 Co-VID nurses. It was so inappropriate that the young gentleman host offered us comp drinks. BK9, a piece of advice, you have no idea what people are going through in their lives and coming to your establishment is an experience- from the time customers walk in the door until they depart. That evening put a damper in the day and ultimately, the loss of a longstanding customer who prides herself on supporting my people; black owned businesses. read more

I attended, tastings, soft-opening, and grand opening here, great vibe for those who like to see-and-be-seen, a cool restaurant that is casual, trendy, and classy all at once. BK9 is poised to be a staple in this area, they are unique in that, though they have influence and inspiration from all over, the Haitian factor is not so overpowering and actually serves to bring it all together. I am currently craving their steak. The drinks are good, being that they are still new, I hope the drink menu is introduced soon to give another dimension to the BK9 character. I hosted a birthday dinner here, the staff was perfect and accommodating to us beyond belief. Genuinely attentive and hospitable staff make the ups and downs of a new establishment so much more bearable. The staff is so dope tho really, they actually concerned that everyone is contented, we felt babied :) read more

Friendly staff! Drinks were on point can't complain. Cozy vibe for a date night or out with friends. Oxtail empanadas on point. Thanks BK 9!

First time here and I was impressed with a few things. Location, and ambience. My experience might be different from other as I was a part of a large group of 20 plus as opposed to a smaller group. What did impress me was how accommodating they were. They set up downstairs so we had our own section. And the prefix menu was good. I had Banana Waffles and they were delicious. Definitely a place that I would go back to. read more

The brioche banana rum French toast was amazing! The raspberry sauce was a great compliment to the banana rum reduction sauce. It was perfectly executed. the chicken sausage was also delicious. I also tried a friend's Oxtail hash. It was really tasty- but it wasn't what I expected. I thought hash meant potatoes and meat (like corn beef hash) but enjoyed it nonetheless. The only reason BK9 didn't get 4 stars was the service. Our waitress left us on an island. We had to ask for more water 3 times. The last time we had to ask another waitress because ours was in the back eating. I also had to get up to ask her for a check. I'll go back and hope I get a different waitress because the food and ambiance is on point! read more

The food is excellently prepared, delicious, with flavor! The rum punch is so good, after 2, lets just say I had a great time! DJ is always amazing, so is the live bands that are sometimes there! The only issue I've ever had here was just how long it takes for the food to come out and when its busy there just aren't enough waiters! I must say however, one of the owners was there one time, during a time that my meal took over an hour to come out, and he gave my sister and I, 2 drinks on the house! Someone that can appreciate their customers and rectify matters on the spot, is quickly forgiven to me! I've visited over 10 times now, I do love this spot nonetheless! I plan on having my Rehearsal Dinner here in August! read more

We went in because of their very effective gorilla marketing tactic of handing out postcards with the name of band playing at Barklays that night right in front of Barklays(we were about to see Iron Maiden). The service was very friendly. Our waitress was nice, easy to find, and had a great disposition. However, it took way too long to get our drinks. Even though I got an extra dirty martini on the house because of it without even asking for it, which was a nice touch, it just wasn't very expertly mixed, I have definitely had better. Once we got the food, my pork shoulder dish was mostly fat, over cooked, and kind of dry. My friend's burger was unnecessarily spicy, and the other friend's steak was chewy. Definitely can't recommend this place. read more

Great music. Great food and great service. I'm a foodie and I must say the chef is amazing. Oxtail empanadas are amazing, I paired it with wine. Definitely a great place to stop in and catch a vibe while enjoying good food read more

Saw this place a few times while in downtown Brooklyn and decided to give it a try before a game one day, upon entering I was greeted by the owner, he sat me down and checked up on me a few times to make sure everything was ok and was very friendly, I had a rum punch that was really tasty and strong, for dinner I had the tour d'legume (veggie dish with eggplant, zucchini etc) with diri jon jon (black rice with Lima beans), it was healthy and filling, some people might find it to be a bit bland but I enjoyed it, will go back and try some other things there read more

Want the best bang for your buck.. And not sacrifice that Brooklyn feel, come here! BK 9 has an amazing happy hour $4 drafts and $2 off house made cocktails. I stopped by around 5 and found a cozy seat at the bar.. Too bad it was raining I'd enjoy the back yard. Instead inside I enjoyed 2 impressively strong kubuli's. The bar tender was very friendly and welcoming and the whole environment was laid back and comfy. Def come in and try! read more

I went here two weeks ago with a small group and my experience can only be described as disgusting and disappointing. To start off, walking in the restaurant smelled very sour. I ordered the BK9 Punch, which despite it's deep yellow color, tasted of water and alcohol. I also ordered scallops which were rubbery and tasted like pure baking soda--I instantly gagged. Also, the waitress never remember any of our orders, didn't serve us our food together and she put a gratuity on our check for a group of four. Most importantly, no apology from management who very intentionally walked past us several times. Very unprofessional, poor service and poor food. read more

Update: gave this restaurant a second chance. There were no more veggie burgers but the waitress suggested a salad instead and it was PHENOMENAL. I'm obsessed with brussel sprouts at the moment and they were grilled to perfection with almond shavings and a beautiful salad dressing. They call it the house salad but it needs it's own special name if it's going to be that tasty! Only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because although the waitress was wonderful, it was a bit of a struggle for her to manage a 10 top. I thought we were really organized and concise with our orders and payments but the checks and food took about 30 minutes each, if not more. I'll still recommend this restaurant though! Who knew it would be the salad that got me to be a fan haha! Continued success to you all Also, Paul, thank you for taking my suggestion on the bottomless mimosa timing into consideration. I noticed the change on the menu! read more

I came here with a group of friends after the African festival in celebration of one of my friend's birthday. Regarding the atmosphere, it was nice and warm. We also had a great waitress (Danielle) who was patient and well informed of each item on the menu (that's A +). She even made suggestions which some of us followed. Personally, I had the burger because I couldn't decide on what to eat. It came with a simple salad to garnish the burger and fries which were well seasoned and crispy. One my friends ordered the oxtail and another ordered the escovitch fish, which she said was just ok. As for the oxtail, I tasted a slither and it was good. The drinks, well mines was very tasty! I had a mango margarita and it was strong and sweet; the perfect combination. We're planning on returning soon for brunch which I heard is really good and I'm looking forward to it! read more

Cool events. Drinks are nice. Food is okay.

The experience at BK9 is impeccable. Service is amazing and each course is crafted with care. The oxtail empanadas are outstanding. I had the scallops, and they were so delicious I wanted to kiss the cook. My SO had the snapper and it was very tasty. We thought the black rice came straight out of a Haitian kitchen. We finished with the parsnip cake--A+. The venue is beautiful. The restrooms are very clean and well decorated. Oh, I forgot to mention the bar. Our rum punch had us thinking we were in Jamaica. read more

First and foremost, I went in here with dubious expectations. But the welcoming atmosphere quickly changed that. I am a sucker for feeling at ease, and the staff did that with flying colors. Moving on to my meal. I started off with the Oxtail Empanada--succulent, and well cooked. Amazing. The main course was the Crispy Snapper. It came with a yucca croquette and crispy leek. And Oh MY GOODNESS. I HAD to call the chef over. The snapper was cooked to perfection-- not overcooked, with just the right amount of 'je ne sait quoi'. You will not be disappointed. I finished it off with the Romeo and Julieta-- sweet cheese in an empanada served with guava preserves and strawberries with a side of rum-spiced whipped cream. First time and I will most CERTAINLY be coming back for more. --Happy eating. read more

Had a wonderful time at BK9 for Sunday brunch. The oxtail & eggs entree... SO good! I also loved their specialized drinks.... well, I only needed one honestly. My drink of choice: the "Rude Boy"... It was super strong and delicious... that's definitely rare for a brunch spot. I wanted to try their empanadas but they were sold out at the time. I'll definitely be back :) read more

I had the pleasure of eating at this spot last night with my co-workers. We are all High School teachers, so after a long week we needed to take a break. The drinks were amazing, the appetizers was even better, and the entree was simply amazing. I could not finish all of my food which was the oxtails, and my husband finished it off. Then I tell him about the amazing experience, and he advises me this is one of his college buddies from Old Westbury restaurant. Such a small world. We will definitely be back. read more

Great vibe! Came here for some great post work vibes. Live jazz was really beautiful and fun. Today was my first but will most definitely NOT be my last visit to BK9. I attended a friend of a friend's birthday party. And let me tell ya. I had a wonderful time! The space is nicely sized with ample seating. The kitchen is not sequestered in back and out of sight like most eateries so can see your food being prepared. If that's not your thing, you can watch your favorite program on one of three flat screen monitors. One of which is a large projection screen. The bar is appropriately sized for the space. Wall decor is sparse, but with so much going on with the kitchen, bar, tvs and DJ there's no lack of topics to converse about. Speaking of the DJ. He kept us on the dance floor the entire time. Lots of reggae, soca and kompa. I used one of the two restrooms on the main floor. It was clean and appears to accommodate a wheelchair quite easily. There is an outdoor space in back that I didn't have a chance to check out. I regret eating before I arrived, because my friend couldn't shut up about the oxtail hash she ordered. I ordered a drink, and the barkeep wasn't stingy with the Johnny Walker ($11). She was personable and very cordial- a common trait extending to the rest of the waitstaff. Getting here was an easy 3minute walk from Atlantic Avenue/ Barclays Center. In conclusion, if you're looking for a spot with good food, good music, a waitstaff and owner not above getting down on the dance floor with the patrons, and some time to kill before and/ or after a Nets game or concert, this is the place for you! read more

I Happen to walk into this location one day, it was very new to me, very nice atmosphere, music was great level enough to laugh and talk, we ordered drinks very tasteful was pleased, when dinner came out, my food was very cold, i was not happy about that, but once they fixed it, the plate was very well decorated and the food was tasteful. Customer service could of been better to me. Nice for after work meet up and dinner. Nice location read more

Went here for a brunch that was advertised from 3-10pm. Made a confirmed reservation with the promoter of the event. Arrived at 4pm for the reservations waited at the door to be seated as a sign indicated. Waited for 5mins and no one acknowledged me and my guests. I walked to the rear where servers we gathering and asked if a hostess was available. A server said no but that he would help me. He asked around for my reservations and eventually tired to get the manager to help and the manager blew me off and said I don't know nothing about a brunch we are serving dinner and walked away. read more

Came here on a Friday night after reading the reviews on yelp. I must saw that the ambiance in the restaurant was really nice, it had a rustic touch to which I liked. On this particular night it wasn't buzy at all, which was a shock to me given that it was a beautiful Friday night. I ordered the Bajan rum punch with the jerk chicken empanadas, apparently they were out of the oxtail empanadas (which was what caught my attention on the yelp reviews). The food was okay. I'm a bit apprehensive on dining here again seeing that previous yelp reviews have corroborated the "lack-of" availability of items on the menu. read more

The staff here are really friendly. The bartender makes good drinks... nothing really to complain about on my visits.

Nice ambiance, the owner is very friendly, live music for brunch, bottomless mimosas, Caribbean twist on usual brunch items. Don't remember exactly what the oxtail dish was but it's amazing! read more

The place itself is beautiful. I had high hopes for the food since it was Caribbean inspired. The cocktails were pretty watered down, tasted more like juice and water, ranging from 11-13 dollars I expected to taste a little alcohol. My guests had the griot with Jon Jon and the jerk chicken. And I had the scallop with lentil and vegetable rice. My guests enjoyed the Griot, even though some thought the sauce/ Pikliz was a tad too spicy; While I thought the main thing on my dish was blah, the lentil was good, The rice was okay as well but the scallops were tasteless, flavorless, and "fishy", I've had scallops before and these were by far my least favorite, I couldn't even finish them. Dessert was great, I would recommend the red velvet cake . Overall the ambience was nice , great music but the food / drinks could have been better. I would go back Maybe it might be better next time. Perhaps brunch. read more

I came here the day after Valentine's Day and they were still offering a special drink and food menu. Initial they asked if we wanted to share a table because the place was packed but we were able to get a table to ourselves as another group was leaving. To eat we had the ox tail empanadas and the jerk chicken empanadas, both were fire and i highly recommend. For dinner i had the ox tail which was again, amazing. The drinks were good. Service was a little slow but overall i would recommend and return. read more
