Hands down my favorite bar. The first time I went, I had the pleasure of having ALLISON as my server. Her charisma and efficiency keeps me coming back with a new group of friends every, single time. Not only is she the best but the food is delicious and the music is ALWAYS on point. This bar executes fusing all the african diaspora beautifully when it comes to food, music, and the hospitality. Friday & Saturday nights have a live DJ but if you're looking for something calm on the weekdays, it's still a good place to come out and enjoy. You won't be disappointed. First time visiting BK9, came for Brunch to celebrate my friend Birthday. There is no prefix menu for brunch , which is a plus . To add mimosas or bellini is an additional 20 dollars. The restaurant has 2 floors, and has a live jazz band playing until 3pm. The jazz band definitely creates a sophisticated ambience. Although I did enjoy the jazz band I was happy when the DJ arrived. The DJ definitely had everyone dancing, he played some good tunes. I ordered the Caribbean Benedict, was so excited to eat my food. I was disappointed in the dish no love was put into the dish. The pork had no taste, the fingerling potatoes not flavorful. However my friends ordered the chicken and waffles ; and it was too die for. The chicken was well seasoned and waffles made to perfection. My friend also had the grits with fried salt fish, although the dish took a long time to come; it was worth it. The dessert was great , the red velvet cake was so moist. The waiter Rosa was very attentive and super nice. Overall I will revisit BK9, but will never order the Caribbean Benedict again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find out we made it during happy hour. Excellent deals on beer and wine. They have a specials menu that changes regularly as well as a consistent regular menu. I got the Pernil which was garlic pork shoulder, rice, and beans. The pork shoulder was so tender and juicy. The garlic was just the right amount and really let the meat speak for itself. Everyone in my group also seemed to enjoy their meal. One person in my group got the Snapper which is a dish they are known for. Went here for our anniversary 2 weeks ago and although the food was okay the service was terrible. Our waitress named Jasmine was rude, unprofessional, unattentive and disconnected. She didn't know the menu and insisted there were no other vegetarian options but the pumpkin soup (on a hot, humid nyc summer day). After our own investigation we discovered at least 3. We only stayed because we had leave for an appointment shortly after and didn't want to risk going somewhere else. The waitress never came back to ask how our meal was and mixed the drinks way too strong. I had to beg her for the bill twice before she shoved it in front of me. Decided to eat here because it was on Zagat's list of "Best Places to eat near The Barclays Center" which was perfect the night of Jay-Z's 4:44 Concert Monday Night. When I arrived, I noticed that it was very intimate which was a plus for me. My Wife & I sat at 2 top in a row of them & they weren't too close to each other. They played all Jay-Z songs that evening and the News was on (silent) by the bar. Besides paying attention to my Wife, I was definitely occupied. The service was nice & and food was good. I only wish the Oxtails had more meat than fat and I wasn't a fan of the plantains. I was expecting the good, sweet plantains & meaty Oxtails that you can find at the best West Indian restaurants around Brooklyn. Either way, I'll definitely return and try another dish as the ambiance was amazing and the cocktail was good and strong! read more

This is definitely NOT an authentic Caribbean restaurant. DO NOT BE FOOLED! We ordered the Snapper, rice and peas with Cabbage and the Hanger steak with rice and peas and plantains with garlic sauce. Everything was disgusting! The snapper had a weird sauce that was unnecessary. The cabbage was dry and unseasoned. The rice and peas was under cooked. The steak was flavorless and lack lusting. The plantains were more like tostones (hard and flat). The "garlic" sauce wasn't even close to a garlic taste. The passionfruit juice and the pomegranate juice both tasted spoiled! Please shut this place down and find a better cook. We deserve a refund. Not to mention our waiter was horrible. We had to keep flagging her down smh. Find more attentive help as well. read more

Just had the most delicious weekend brunch here for my friend's birthday. I go to this restaurant like it's the neighborhood diner. I go so often and every time I go, I experience the most succulent decadent meals. I always aim for a salmon or seafood dish since I haven't been eating meat. Their pumpkin soup is to die for. They have the most chill, relaxing, feel-good playlist of music playing. Being there at Bk9 with such friendly staff, delicious food, great live music and iPad music as well keeps me there longer than I should be staying and had me visiting more than I plan to visit. I haven't felt so great about a restaurant since I lived in New Jersey. They are very accommodating with the meals which I truly appreciate. This is a little hidden spot in Park Slope offering carribean fair. The food is ALL fabulous and artistically presented. It has an intimate feel. The bartender,Maya us a true mixologist offering a variety of her own creations and STILL getting the traditional down pat. The service is excellent with your food served with a smile. BRUNCH TIME! BK9 is a black owned business beautifully sitting on 5th Avenue. You immediately see the blue awning and on Sundays the wind carries the soulful fusion of a saxophone and cello. Live music is a huge part of brunch at BK9 and when the musicians take a break, jazz music is being played through their sound system. BK9 has a full bar, specialty drinks and a unique brunch menu. For those who don't want to be overly adventurous, they also have classic options like chicken and waffles and French toast. For those who want to experiment, Caribbean based and flavorful recipes are at your disposal. I was feeling particularly adventurous on Sunday and I decided to try the oxtail hash. The oxtail hash consists of 2 sunny side up eggs, chimichurri, roasted potatoes, peppers, onions and of course oxtail. My food came out in a timely fashion. It was hot, flavorful and beautifully seasoned! Even my eggs were cooked to perfection. I had a peach Bellini to wash it all down. The restaurant is clean, the bathrooms are clean, they have a downstairs area for events, there is a patio, live music, beautiful art on the walls, glorious place settings, customized menu, great drinks and amazing food! So why does this place only have three stars? There must have been 20+ guests in the restaurant and only 1 SERVER! I couldn't believe it. Even though I got my food on time, there were many who were waiting a long time to get their food, drinks and desserts. I won't be returning....and here's why....the service was horrible. The waitress wasn't knowledgeable about anything on the menu. Shanteese didn't want to be at work at her attitude was disgusting. The bartender had an attitude and was dressed inappropriately and was in desperate need of a bra. Her breast were everywhere. THE FOOD! BAD! No seasoning at all! I had the oxtail hash with potatoes. I went to today for brunch with a friend. It was relatively busy however we were seated promptly and was approached by our server right away and food came quickly. (I forgot the servers name). He was really attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the oxtail hash which was AMAZING!! My friend had the banana rum waffles and fried chicken, which was also DELICIOUS!! We both enjoyed bottomless mimosa- more champagne than orange juice ( just the way I like it!) Overall a really great experience! Food and customer service. It really deserves 1 star but my two year old liked his Chicken tenders. Our server Denise was super sweet. Our problem was mainly the food and service from some of the other people. We got chicken and waffles, the oxtail hash ,french toast and then a side of eggs. First none of our food came out at the same time and then once we got it it was flavorless, bland , and just kinda gross. The oxtail hash was oily bland and my husbands scrambled eggs were so over cooked they were hard and crunchy and then everything else was just soft and oily. The French toast was over cooked. The waffles didn't have a tbsp of sugar in them. Literally no flavor not even my kid would eat them. When I explained the issue to the first server Penelope (not my actual server but she was helping) she looked at us like we had 3 heads and then didn't say anything just gave us a look and took the plate and walked off and talked to the manager. Afterwards he noticed everytime we talked to the manager or any other employee she was now always close by and super attentive. She also was clearly talking about us to other employees bc they were looking at us as they were talking. The whole experience was just very off putting this was our first time ever going there and more than likely our last. I will say the manager did come talk to us afterwards and was very understanding and fixed our bill but at that point we were just really offended and wanted to go. Unfortunately, they seemed to be understaffed for brunch on a Saturday and my group (a large party of 10) experienced major delays in receiving food and drinks (even though we opted for unlimited mimosas). The food came out at drastically different times, I received my meal nearly 35 minutes after the first dish was served. At one point I said I didn't want it anymore but they brought it anyway and I'm glad they did because it (oxtail hash and diri djon djon) was SO GOOD!!!! The wings were alright. Dry rub jerk seasoning with 3 dipping sauces. The oxtail empanadas we also just okay. Not enough filling. There's only oxtail meat inside and not much at that. My boyfriend had the same wings with a side of fried plantains. The plantains were a 10! I couldn't stop picking from his plate. My coworker and I call at 1:15 pm to place an order over the phone but we were told we had to order on the website online. We placed an online order of wings and a burger. We were told the order would take 30 minutes. At 2:15 we arrived to pick up our order, it was not ready and then we were told it would be another 30 minutes. We could not wait any longer because we were on lunch break so We asked for our money back. The person in charge at the time said we could not get our money and had to wait until the next day to speak to the manger Mya. We decided to keep the Order and asked for it to be ready at 4:30 so we can pick it up leaving work. I arrived at the restaurant at 5pm and was told the order would take another 30 minutes. This situation is ridiculous this place had since 1:15 to make a small order and my food was still not ready hours later. I've been to this restaurant multiple times due to my desire to support a Black-owned business in the community, but my dinner experience today with them was completely unacceptable. Our server, Alicia, was very inattentive and it took her an hour to take our order after we were seated (the restaurant was not full at this point in the evening and we actually had to flag her down for her to even take our order). In addition, every time we made a request, she would leave to supposedly fulfill our request and then get distracted claiming that she "forgot" every time. In addition to the lackluster service, a large group of individuals entered the restaurant (I'm assuming they were coming for an event) and had no consideration for the patrons already dining there, as they repeatedly bumped into tables and had very little awareness of their surroundings and their impact on the diners already there. It even got to the point where a woman began loudly arguing with someone in the restaurant to incite a fight with another individual in the restaurant. A restaurant staff member had to yell at the group to "calm down." All in all, tonight was very disappointing and I have a hard time seeing myself going back there. If you are looking for a peaceful dining experience with halfway decent customer service, I recommend choosing another restaurant. The food was pretty decent though so perhaps order from them via a delivery service to save yourself such a disappointing dining experience. read more

Saturday, February 4 was our first time visiting! I was there for a friend's 31st birthday celebration! Our party was seated downstairs in the private party room which is very nice. very spacious for the amount of people that was in our party. The private party room allows you to play your own music. we had the prefix menu not many options on it. While having appetizer which was the jerk wings I notice a long strand of hair on some of my wings maybe 2 or 3 wings. I brought it to the attention of my Waitress who was very nice, her reply was sorry I'll let the kitchen know The wings were never switched out,we just pushed it to the side, I think the waiter was a little overwhelmed with the size of the party there should've have been at least two waiters or waitresses for our big party. BK9 amazes me on Sunday. I've been there to eat with friends and for happy hour but never went downstairs. I was amazed at the service, the food, and how everyone loved what they were doing. I went for brunch after my wedding there and rented downstairs. The tables were really nice, they made sure the place looked presentable and made sure the bride (myself) and groom were fine throughout the whole time. They were very attentive to my guests as well. They started on time and allowed my guests to wait upstairs while they were waiting. They took care of anything my guests needed and I. While we were eating musicians came downstairs and started playing jazz which was my favorite part of the day. It was a surprise, and I loved it. My husband and I had a memorable first dance. The manager and staff made a Toast at the end of the brunch which surprised me. I've never experienced such a loving staff and smooth brunch which a big party like mine. This restaurant has absolutely no idea what they are doing. The food is good but the service is horrible. Came 30 mins before an NBA Finals game with 5 people. We asked a waitress to slide two smaller tables together but a manager came over and suggested we sit at a high top table for six. No problem there. Except that for 15 minutes after moving, we couldn't even get a waiter to look in our direction. The entire wait staff of 7 or so people were somehow in crisis mode even though the restaurant was not even full. Shout out to Karen, who was family to one of the BK9 staff for hearing my plea and finally coming over. She's not normally serving tables but she did a great job trying to take care of us in spite of the clueless regulars who work there. Drink and dish orders came out incorrectly, things were forgotten but then the real BS started. Around the 4th quarter of the game, more people came in to watch, crowding around our table. Two guys had snuck in some spare ribs and a bottle of whiskey, which they were sipping out of plastic cups and had set on our table. Later a waiter came by and yelled at me for bringing in the ribs. I pointed out they weren't mine and got an apology. The fact that people can sneak in a fifth of whiskey and openly drink it out of red solo cups is an indication of how inattentive the staff at BK9 is. At the end of the night, there were a ton of errors on the bill which we got fixed. We also noticed they had included an 18% tip on the bill. Outside, I was about to leave when the waiter asked if he could speak to me, proceeding to yell: "YOU SPENT FOUR HOURS HERE FOR A ONE DOLLAR TIP!" I pointed out that the 18% tip had already been included and paid for and he apologized. Apologies aside, to TWICE accuse me of problems that come from a restaurant staff that has no clue what is doing is inexcusable. It ruined my night and I'll be glad to never come here again. There are many better options for drinks or dinner on 5th and if you want authentic West Indian food at half the price (in half of the wait time) come to Crown Heights. read more

They only had a very busy waiter who tried his best to be attentive and personable. The garlic plantains are delicious. My dinner companion was not as thrilled about his escovitch red snapper. I had a rum creme type drink that was super thick and had to keep adding water to it (at the time I enjoyed it, was like having a never ending drink).
