I had reservations for this restaurant for 3 people and they gave me a seat for 2. My party wasn't big enough so we politely asked for a bigger table. The group that sat beside us were leaving and we asked for their table and the waitress said that by moving our table we'd be affecting her profit. The waitress was rude and nasty and needs to be trained on customer service skills. To let paying customers walk out rather than giving them a bigger table is absurd. I'll never return to this restaurant ever again. The way the waitress treated us is unacceptable! SB: We asked for a table of 4 not a table of 6. We were referring to the table by the hostess. Or the group that was right beside us. The group that's was beside was a party of two and had room for an extra chair. If their was a manager or the owner present at the time they would've known that the table of 6 was reserved and had people on it. So of course a party of 3 wouldn't ask for that. read more

The BK9 experience I had could very well be summed up as ambiguous. While the brunch menu boasts a lovely selection of unique dishes, the variety is narrow and I haven't quite figured out which it is that is supposed to be the must-have on their menu. I do have to say that the oxtail dish is exceptional on top of being an unusual item on a menu! Where the menu alludes sophistication and finesse, the service strikes more of a pub vibe and the decor falls somewhere in between. The band plays by the window of the restaurant front, drawing people in with the sweet, sweet sounds of the bass and saxophone, which makes you at least think to stop by once in the near future. On my visit, as enticing as the band was from outside, the seating inside didn't point our attention to them, so it was a nice background mood setter. I think what BK9 is doing to market themselves is interesting as I haven't found any particular part of my experience reinforcing in bringing me back, but I'm intrigued by what they might develop and showcase in the future! read more

I love my people but this was not it. The drinks are amazing, however, the food was definitely lacking in flavor. Specifically, the rice and peas was bland, the jerk chicken was really barbecue and the burger was thick and dry. The oxtail was basically bone, which is disappointing considering how pricey the menu is. This is a lively spot with great music. The ambiance is nice and the wait staff is friendly. The food was ok. I had the oxtail empanadas (miss), tostones (hit), and the shrimp stew(mehhh) for an appetizer. For my entree I had the BK Burger which was pretty good. The wait time was longer than usual due to an event downstairs, however we received drinks on the house to make up for the long wait. The drinks were just okay (I tried 3 different drinks). The food and drinks are good!! My favorite is the Cod & cassnova cake and crispy Brussels sprouts! I love the music, but it's just extremely too loud. This is a restaurant with a dj. Not a lounge with a dj. Big difference. Very hard to have any conversation. If you try you will have a sore throat by the end of the night, that was the only downfall. We had a great server (Maliki) but he looks like J.Cole lol.... Cole was great, very attentive with a sense of humor. I would definitely go back, just going to try another night. read more

Brought my mom here for a bday brunch. We are Jamaican and my mom only does Carib restaurants and she is a hardddd one to please. Think matriarchal cook of the family! Yea that's her! Mom had the oxtail hash which she enjoyed but wished that they put more oxtail. Like they should name it sparingly oxtail hash. I had the Waffles which were good. The rum sauce was amazing but after trying my moms food I knew that I ordered the wrong thing. Service was slow and the place wasn't packed so they could improve in other areas. Went here last night to celebrate my mother's birthday. We were waiting outside for the rest of our party to arrive. My grandmother who is 86 years old was also there, was immediately greeted by the owner JB and given a chair. He was very attentive to her and her needs. Very nice man. When inside we were seated downstairs it was like our own private area, which was great because it turned out to be 18 of us. The staff was pleasant. We received drinks and appetizers quickly. Our main courses were also served exceptionally quick given the size of our group, it being a busy Friday night the restaurant was packed. Everyone enjoyed their food. I came here for brunch and it was great. I am never a fan of basic brunches (your usual eggs smoked salmon or ham) because I believe you should be able to make those at home and not pay the premium of eating outside. For me, brunch needs to be special - and bk9 has a pretty good menu for that. The restaurant is Caribbean inspired, so a lot of their dishes do incorporate those ingredients. I came here on a Sunday morning and was not disappointed- the food was great and so was the service. It wasn't too crowded at all so my friend and I were able to sit and chat - we weren't being rushed out of the door. The both of us ordered an oxtail hash. I loved the hash because they used more than just potatoes for their base and incorporated other root vegetables. I loved how the flavors meshed together with the oxtail hash and the eggs. Everything was good together- however, my only complaint is that the eggs were oven cooked, and I would have loved a runny sunny side up on those pan fried potatoes. Yum. I was by myself so i just walked over to the bar. Bartender had the crazy attitude. No greeting. There wasn't enough seating so i waited by the front door again. No greeting. The male server locked eyes with me...still not a hello or any kind of greeting. A large group had just left eh restaurant and decided it would be cool to stop traffic and just play loud music and act like fools out front. Im sure park slope is very happy to welcome such an establishment that allows that. Our server (Allison) was outstanding, but the rest needs help. As dictated to me by a 12yo-- the food is too oily and salty and not well seasoned. Some of the servers are not appropriately dressed--ripped leggings and sneakers are not proper dress for servers. Those two vodka shots came up to 26 dollars and the glass wasn't even filled. My chicken wings were grossly underdone, I could see pink inside, and my fries were mainly composed of salt. I had a birthday dinner for my husband here, and we were a large party of 20. We had a small hiccup in the beginning, but the manager worked hard to resolve and make things more festive. Everyone loved the food. I didn't hear any complaints about the food, and all of our guests said they enjoyed the food. The jerk wings were great and the Haitian dishes were cooked to perfection. Children, gather round for a tale of brunch potential unrealized. We arrived at BK9 for Saturday and were excited to see the live band - a double bass and a flute player - doing jazzy renditions of such classics as "Some Day My Prince Will Come." Incongruity aside, it set a nice tone. Our waiter came quickly with water and took our drink orders. And then it all went downhill. The service here was lackadaisical at best. About 20 minutes later my Bloody Mary was delivered. Another 10 minutes after that, my friends' bellinis - one of which had an obvious dark berry lipstick mark on the edge of the glass. It was pretty promptly switched for a clean one. Then came the food. Or rather, eventually it came. The first dish on the table was the oxtail hash. This was the only reason I would ever come back to BK9. It was delicious. Just delicious. But it was another 5 minutes before everyone else got their food - and the order was wrong. They had put chicken on the Caesar salad, which my friend had specifically asked for without chicken. When she told the waiter that he said "oh, you did?" without even the slightest hint of apology until 20 minutes later (!!) when he finally brought her a corrected salad. She said it was decent. The roasted chickpeas were a nice touch. The Carribean Benedict was a disappointment. The plantains were dry, and the pulled pork was just... blah. We eventually wrangled the waiter and got our check, but decided to go elsewhere for post-brunch coffee, so we wouldn't spend another 2 hours waiting for our caffeine. read more

Hands down my favorite bar. The first time I went, I had the pleasure of having ALLISON as my server. Her charisma and efficiency keeps me coming back with a new group of friends every, single time. Not only is she the best but the food is delicious and the music is ALWAYS on point. This bar executes fusing all the african diaspora beautifully when it comes to food, music, and the hospitality. Friday & Saturday nights have a live DJ but if you're looking for something calm on the weekdays, it's still a good place to come out and enjoy. You won't be disappointed. My friend and I were on our way to the New Edition, Baby Face concert at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. We were looking for a good place to eat in the area before the show when she noticed BK9. We could see that there were plenty of customers who seemed to be having great conversation and enjoying themselves. We agreed to try it and were not disappointed. The atmosphere at BK9 was warm and inviting. The staff were extremely friendly including the owners who were more than willing to serve as well. They walked around and made sure that we were okay and pleased with the food. We were. I had the crispy snapper and my friend had the braised Ox Tails. Delicious! That night, the bar was offering specialty drinks for the concert. We ordered the Candy Girl which was also very tasty. Service was a little slow but the hospitality and good eats more than made up for it. One of the owners allowed us to try the Ox Tails Empandas. Now, I don't generally eat Ox Tails but I tried it. I liked it. My friend, who is adventurous and who has been exposed to more culture than I have, said they were delicious. The cheese bread was out of this world. OMG! Thank you BK9!! My friends and I decided to go here for dinner last week to catch up. It's a cozy little spot in Park Slope. I made a reservation and when we arrived we were seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. Now let's get to the food and drinks We ordered the Bajan Rum Punch...first of all I practically go to Barbados every year so I know what their rum punch taste like. Needless to say....this was not it! It just tasted like sorrel with a hint of rum. The food however was delicious I ordered the Oxtail and my friends ordered the Snapper. All presented very well and they do serve a good portion. The dessert for me was disappointing. I ordered the Molten Chocolate Cake and my friend ordered the Rum Raisin Almond cake. My cake was dry and nothing molten about it....I didn't finish it. My friend's cake was delicious. Overall, this is a great choice if you're in the area and it's priced moderately.
