A couple months later my daughter was driving me to Boston's logan airport for a flight to Paris. My glasses didn't feel right. I walked in with my 3 year old son who needs glasses. He has difficult time adjusting to new things.The lady that was working that day was uncaring and did not want to help me with my son who is special need. I didnt feel the need to explain to her that he is special needs. I do believe she should have tried harder to help. she told me to comeback another time when he is more calm. I just got up and left. The prices here for eyeglasses (frames & lenses) are a lot cheaper compared to buying eyewear at the eye doctor. Eye exams are offered at this location or go see your own eye doctor, get a prescription, and bring it to BJ's. Once the frame & lenses are chosen, it takes less than a week to get them (mine were ready in 2 days). The service here is good (the optical manager has straightened out, adjusted, & cleaned my accidently bent glasses on those few occasions at no charge). read more

I usually see an optometrist in my home state but I happened to be in MA and really need to update my prescription to get some new contacts. The eye exam by Dr. O'Shea was not really successful. She was kind of hard to connect with and she really creates a barrier between herself and the patient which just makes the whole think awkward. Anyways, I got a new prescription and requested a trial pair of contact lenses to try at home. Well, the prescription for my left eye was way off. That was the first time that had ever happened to me. I felt the eye exam was quite rushed and perhaps that's were the error came in. I had to go to a conference the next three day so I was bummed out about not being able to see correctly! It's not like going to the optometrist is dirt cheap and if your appointment is going to be rushed through, you want to make sure you are at least getting the right prescription so you don't waste further time trying to correct the problem. read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience with Dr. O'Shea. I thought I was lost going to her office until I realized it was inside BJ's. I arrived and waited 30 minutes - when she finally emerged she said, "oh you must be a walk-in". I assured her that I had made an appointment and apparently no one recorded it. The appointment was okay - seemed that the equipment was old and was much faster than my usual appointments, but whatever. Later, I ripped my contact while away from MA and called hoping she would fax my prescription to a doctor in the area so that I could get an emergency pair. Apparently they don't keep copies of the prescriptions they write. I called two different numbers and emailed her - I have probably called 10 times. Two days later, still no prescription. Her secretary finally called me and said "sorry - I know it's been two days, but apparently she doesn't think this is very urgent." read more

I had gone to BJs 3 times when they had such discounts on frames and lenses. What I found out is no matter when you go the prices are ALWAYS the same. We visited 2 stores at different times, picked frames in same price range and had an additional $30 off coupon, the price for the glasses on all occasions was within $15-20 difference when not on sale. Makes one think this is just a scam to get you in the door. The only advantage is the cost was comparable to MyEyeDR and others using my VSP discount. So I would save the VSP frame reimbursement. Other than that, I will not go back. read more

I scheduled an appointment to update my eye prescription and get a contact lens fitting, asked for the total cost and the guy I spoke to said it would be 140 dollars, showed up for my appointment and they changed the cost to 172 dollars. Definitely not going back. Go to lens crafters, they are at least 40 dollars cheaper and don't use the bait and switch technique. read more

I had my eyes checked and bought the frames and lenses from BJ's which were done wrong so I sent them back. Second time the bifocals were too low so I couldn't utilize them with small print so gave up and went back to my old glasses. read more

I have purchased two pairs of eyeglasses from BJ's. Where they fail is after sales service, my glasses where less than a year old and had a hinge break. They would not order a new arm(aka temple). My only option was to purchase a whole new frame. :( read more

Be aware that BJ's Optical is actually an outside vendor renting space in BJ's various stores. The non glare coating started peeling off my glasses making them difficult to use...I was told they could do nothing for me as my glasses were just beyond two years old. I went to the BJ's store manager where I was informed there was nothing she could do as the eyeglass department is NOT part of BJ's. The quality of the coating was very poor and I would strongly advice others to shop elsewhere as there is no real savings here. read more

They do offer a decent selection of frames, and the people working there are friendly enough, but whoever actually manufactures the lenses completely botched the prescription. I couldn't figure out why I was having such difficulty seeing with my new glasses, even going back to my eye doctor to see if the prescription was correct and then going back to BJ's to have one lens changed slightly, and yet, still no luck. I had chalked it up to my not being able to get used to progressive lenses. After a year of barely wearing these glasses which cost just over $400 (even with a 50% off frame deal), I took the glasses to a small private place in Wellesley. They figured out (now I know this is technical but this is what I was told and it was corroborated with my actual eye doctor) that the prescription from my right eye was not transposed in to a negative cyl but made in to a negative cyl using positive cyl numbers. The result was that I couldn't see properly out of these lenses the entire time I had them. Also, the frames I chose with the help of a staff member were never comfortable. After 40 minutes of wear, the piece that went over my ear would start to hurt behind my ears. When I took the frames to another optical store to see if I could have new lenses put in them since they were less than 2 years old, I was told that the reason they caused pain was because the frames were too wide for my face and that the pieces over my ear had to be bent so much to keep them from slipping down my nose, that they were putting pressure on the area behind my ear. Between the uncomfortable frames and the botched execution of my prescription, I was out $400. Also, as I side note, I had asked about transition lenses and opted to purchase them, only to realize they didn't darken when I was in the car. When I complained to BJ's about this, I was told I could hold them outside the car to darken every few minutes. REALLY????? What they should have told me was to save my money since I drive a considerable amount for work and that the transitions would not be effective for my needs. I know they offer great pricing deals but now that I found a place that offers a great product with great service, I will opt to pay more and get a really good final product. read more

DON'T BOTHER. They have the worst glasses and the worst people running the Hookset, now Manchester, store. Right from the beginning, they never stayed my face, had horrible unmagnified areas that I never knew existed. They were 1/3 less than the top line progressives at the opticians I had my exam at. I had to put Crokies on if I needed to tilt my head! That as the good part. No matter how often I went back for adjustments, they only got slightly better for a few hours or so. I also think that the two women were at odds with each other blaming the other for the problems. They tried to tell me one of my ears was way off even though I've been waring glasses for almost 20 years without these disfigurement claims of the BJ Optical employees. At their 1 year anniversary, the frame broke at the attachment area for the sides. I was still able to wear them, but within a month the other side joint broke and they were only together with a lot of help. I have also noticed that even though I followed proper cleaning procedures, the anti-scratch material was coming off in many places ad greatly reduced the contrast and clarity by a lot. I also noticed that the darkening which I paid for (like Transitions) had stopped working. One of the reasons I bought them was that the glass (plastic) was Zeiss. Im a photographer, and Zeiss still makes the finest camera lenses in the world. But with researching for my new pair of glasses, I discovered that Zeiss eyeglass optics may not even be in the top 10 glass providers, and there may not even be 10 different ones that export to the USA. After doing a lot of research, I found that the online discounts that made top line progressives were not very deep and you had to buy your frames elsewhere and send them in with your prescription. NO THANKS! I finally went back to the original opticians and found that the best glasses I wanted were now only about $700, about a third less tan last year. Even the frames had at least double the warrantee of the BJ frames. DON'Y BUY PROGRESSIVE GLASES FROM BJ OPTICAL, NEVER. read more

For the first time I got my glasses at BJs and was initially thrilled. The visin through them ws fantastic and they actually cost about the same as my usual purchase. However, after one week I noticed a spot on them and brought them back to be checked out. The salesperson said there was a scratch on them and she could see other scratches on the other lens as well. I treated these new glasses the exact same way as I have others in the past and have never, ever had this problem. I went back to BJs who very nicely had them re-ground to their original clarity without cost, she said because I was there within 30 days. I just don't know how they got scrathed, as I said, I handled them just like my prior glasses without problems. It took 2 weeks to get the original glasses and another 2 weeks to get the re-ground ones. Their service was great and their people great but the glasses themselves were a problem. read more

I used to go to BJs for my glasses and contacts for years but have stopped going lately. Their service is terrible and every time I go it seems there is a new employee who has never been trained properly and it takes 20 minutes to even be helped. From there, what normally would take 3 minutes for ordering a new box of contacts, takes at least 20 minutes. It seems like a mess. I also just went there recently and they told me my prescription expired, but I had just gone there a few months before with my new prescription so that isn't possible. When I had gone a few months before, I got contacts with my new prescription which doesn't expire for another 8 months, so because of a mess up on their end, I had to leave without ordering contacts. The person was clearly reading the last date I had bought contacts with them, not when my prescription expired. Don't waste your time here. I go to Target now and they blow BJs Optical away. read more
