I have a family of 4 and got 4 pairs of glasses from them. The lab incorrectly made all four pairs. The store failed to tell us the frames we choose were no longer in production even though they were on thier wall. Over all we waited for months to get our correct glasses...at this poit i am still waiting for 2 pairs. Not at all pleased. read more

Worst service ever. I made my appointment to get a new set of frames - I have been a customer for years and have spent many thousands of dollars. I arrived for my appointment on time and was about to start trying on glasses. The optician, Lisa, brusquely told me I could not remove my mask. To be clear this is not an anti-mask review - this is a review about the lack of common sense and caring about the customer's experience. I care about how I look in glasses and understand that it takes time to evaluate each set of frames and how they fit on me. Dr. Levine's own Web Site states: "Making a decision about your eyewear goes beyond good vision and makes a statement about who you are. Your decision affects how you see and also how you want to be seen by others. But with so many different styles to choose from, getting the right look for your face and your lifestyle can be overwhelming." Lisa told me I could not take my mask off to try on glasses. When I pointed out her company's own language she told me I could take a frame downstairs to my car. When I asked if she was serious she said yes, take the glasses down the elevator and use your car mirror to see how they look. I tried to reason with Lisa but she would not budge, she made it clear she would rather lose me as a customer than help me find a set of frames that make me feel good. I called the next day, hoping to see if perhaps Lisa was a single bad apple - no one even had the courtesy to call back and discuss. I will not be returning to this practice - and it's sad as I really liked Dr. Levine and his staff - but at the end of the day I deserve to be treated with respect. read more

The staff is excellent and Dr Levine is the best. Knowledgeable, caring, great chairside manner. My family has been coming here for years- one year we went to another office in Framingham (decided to return to a provider I went to a long time ago when I was in my 20's that is in network with our insurance plan) but was very disappointed. Dr. Levine is the best. He improved upon my tricky prescription (which was already pretty good to begin with, from my previous optometrist), which has made ALL the difference in the world! I live 3 minutes away from another reputable optometrist, but I (and my whole family) do the long drive out there b/c it's sooo worth it. I have an autistic son who was having eye trouble that a standard eye exam was not able to detect. I sought out help and I went to see Dr. John at this practice and our life changed. This man should be sainted - my son had tracking issues and needed vision therapy (which we paid for because waiting for a school to do something could take forever). That was three years ago. Today we went back because he is having trouble reading and he helped again (where 8 years of "specialists" in the school system were not able to help pinpoint). read more

I have seen many optometrists in my life due to my high degree of myopia. I have to say that Dr. Levine is definitely one of the best eye doctors I've seen. He took his time to get to know me and discussed my needs for the visit. His office offers a full range of vision services (vision therapy, optho-K, special lenses, and digital retinal imaging). The charge for digital retinal imaging was very reasonable (unlike other places I've visited), and he patiently explained the features in the images and what he's looking for. The staff are nice as well. Another thing I like is that there was no hard sell of getting eye glasses there (unlike most eye doctors' offices that carry glasses). No pressure and relax. Dr. Levine is also quite high energy and fun! read more

We were referred to Dr. Abbondanza by our pediatrician for our daughters headaches. He discovered a challenge with her left eye and give us options for correcting the strain. I loved the fact that he listened to her and created a plan that she could adhere to. It has been 3 years and her headaches are greatly reduced and she can focus in school which has improved her grades! I decided when it was time for my eye exam to switch doctors and I became a patient of Dr. Abbondanza, as well. I have been in glasses since I was 14. I have never had an optometrist who was so thorough. Our family is very happy we were referred to Vision Care Specialist and have Dr. John attending to our eyes :) read more

Dr. Levine is very thorough, and I believe him to be extremely technically competent. He will take time to thoroughly explain the science behind any aspect of your condition, and to understand your needs (desk work, driving, etc). I found the staff very helpful and friendly, both on the phone, at the front desk, and during the exam. I will never return to my assembly-line Sears optical department, who have rushed my family through their exams in as little as 10 minutes, but probably charged the same amount. This office is a longer drive than the four other eye doctors I saw previously, but it is worth the trip. Park in the back if you don't want to take the stairs. read more

Dr. John Abbondanza was not my usual eye dr. on the day I showed up at his office with severe head pain and no vision in my left eye. I was unable to reach my normal eye dr or anyone in his office that morning. A family member suggested I call Dr. John. When I told Dr. John my symptoms he instructed me to get to his office immediately. When I arrived at his office, it took him less than 10 mins to diagnose my problem, acute closed angle glaucoma. Dr. John knew I needed emergency medical attention and rushed me to Mass Eye and Ear emergency. He called ahead to the hospital to tell them I was on my way and that I was suffering with a glaucoma episode. In short, Dr. John saved my vision. He's a kind and dedicated doctor who genuinely cares about helping people, oh, and did I mention, he's brilliant! He has a great staff working for him too and now he's my new eye doctor ! read more

They run an efficient office with appointments staying on schedule. They cover every aspect of an annual eye exam. I have been going here for 8-10 years. The woman in charge behind the desk with blonde hair is rude, does her job but not a good position for a person like that. Asked to reschedule appointment the day before for an important work meeting and it was not possible and showed no ability to be flexible. I showed up at the appointment on a conference call because I was not able to reschedule and Dr Levine walked out of my appointment 3 minutes in and said "I cant do this" and never came back. I never really liked going there but I only had to deal with them one a year so whatever but I definitely wont be going back now. read more

First and last time ever. Had an appointment with Dr. Hung, very knowledgeable and helpful, nothing negative to say. Dont bother with the instrument that measures your eyes, it costs $40 and insurance doesn't pay, they push pretty hard for you to do it. Unfortunately, the office staff is very inconsiderate. My wife and I had a baby two weeks before our appointments and then there was a death in the family. We paid for the services through our HSA account and they cashed the check a month after we sent it. Due to all the hospital bills for the birth of the baby, we were off $10 in our account and the check they cashed bounced. I tried to explain the situation since this has never happened to me before but they insisted on charging me a $20 fee. The health system and banking system are broken and they leave the customer to deal with it. Unfortunately, they lost a family of four's business. read more

One of the worst eye care places I've ever been to. Every time I go it somehow costs $60, despite the fact that routine eye care is covered by my insurance. In all my years of seeing eye doctors, I've never had someone charge me for a "contact lens fitting" (especially given that I've been wearing contacts for over fifteen years and it's not like the dimensions of my eyes have changed). read more

Dr. John Abbondanza and his team have a dedication and sincere drive to help their patients, a quality that is rare in today's healthcare climate. I had eye surgery when I was four to correct a lazy eye condition. At that time vision therapy was not even mentioned. Over time my brain adapted to how my eyes worked so that I did not struggle in school or work, but when I reached my mid-30s something changed, my eyes appeared to look forward but my vision was far from working properly. Other doctors did not appreciate the problems I was having including double vision, headaches, limited 3D vision and suppression of my right eye that was causing me difficulty with everyday tasks like reading and driving. I think it is very hard for others to understand how people with these challenges see and how it impacts your day-to-day life. After finding out that there was such a thing as vision therapy from a family member, I found Dr. John's website and promptly made an appointment. His evaluation was thorough and focused on my issues. He took the time to explain what was happening with my sight and gave me hope that these were treatable conditions even for a person in her 30s, as long as I was willing to commit the time needed. Once a week in office sessions and daily at home therapy for 20 to 40 weeks may sound like a big commitment to some, but to me, correcting my eyesight was worth a relatively short-lived inconvenience and financial cost when compared with the prospect of losing sight in one eye. Within weeks of starting vision therapy I saw improvement in my eyesight and I looked forward to my daily exercises. My right eye was participating more and my double vision was not as pronounced. At first the eye therapy was challenging...it does make your eye muscles sore and can cause some minor headaches at th beginning, but by the time I finished the first 20 weeks of therapy, it was like I had a new pair of eyes! My double vision and headaches were gone and my 3D vision was much improved. I elected to continue therapy for another 20 weeks to make sure that the corrections were locked in. Shortly into that time, I was actually able to feel where my eyes were looking and direct them to certain positions. It may sound strange but I was never able to look cross-eyed at will. My eyes would cross to look at something close, but I could not cross them without looking at an object close up. This may not sound like a big deal but being able to deliberately place your eyes in a certain spot is crucial. I was so excited when I had a breakthrough and was able to cross my eyes at will. At that point my 3D vision improved even more! After completing eye therapy, my vision is greatly improved and I met my goals to regain full sight in my right eye and eliminate the double vision. I even see better in 3D which is a side benefit I had not thought would be possible. I will continue at home therapy which only needs to take 15 minutes and for me feels like stretching or exercising my eyes which has become a pleasant feeling. Plus I want to make sure all the hard work sticks! I enthusiastically recommend Dr. John and his team for your vision needs. They take the time to develop customized approaches to resolving vision issues. They truly listen, adapt as needed and make it clear that they care about your needs. I am so fortunate to have found Vision Therapy Specialists and will continue to go to them for all of my vision needs. read more

I saw Dr. Abondanza again today and have been a patient for years. I have vision in only one eye so it's extremely important to me that I have a great eye doctor and I'm confident that I do, both for me and for my family. He is thorough and completely engaged. He uses the most up to date testing and takes the time to consider your overall health as he considers your eye health. Equally important to me was his ability to provide my toddler her eye exams in a manner that made her feel comfortable and think it was "fun", then handle an emergency on a Friday night before Memorial Day weekend when she was in pain due to a small partial in her eye (which happened while she was playing outside). We avoided the ER and instead she was treated and pain free in less than an hour (of his evening/holiday - and he seemed truly pleased to help us). I feel truly lucky to have him as our family doctor. I offer my highest recommendation of this practice. I believe you will have the same experience. read more

My three kids see Dr. Abbondanza. My youngest can't stop giggling with him -- and he prescribed glasses for her when she was 6, so you know he's good! At first I will admit I was leery of his prescription for her -- her vision was perfect, but she was experiencing tremendous eye strain. I just didn't get it. But he explained clearly how this sort of thing can happen and prescribed a prescription for her tailored exactly to the needs of a 6-year-old child (tiny little viewing area for the reading prescription and the rest of the lens clear so that she could avoid taking them on and off all the time). He recently said a similar thing about my son's vision, but told us to hold off based on his age; the prescription would have been preventive, and he felt that my son would be better off waiting till he's older. I like that he errs on the conservative side and doesn't just throw kids into glasses when they're not necessary. I would definitely recommend him to families. read more
